[Q] What Happened to the screen mode in T-Mobile version - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

what happened to the screen mode feature in the Display settings section. Can't change from the the four settings in like the int'l version. My rooted galaxy nexus at 50% brightness is brighter than the s3 at 50% brightness whats gives.

Just like the Tmobile Galaxy S2, once again we get a Gimped version of the S3. The Qualcomm s4 doesn't allow the Screen Mode feature to work so we'll have to wait for the devs to come up with something if they are even able to.

I've been thinking the same thing. I've been looking for the setting since i bought it, and realised they left it out. I'm pretty pissed about this because I like really saturated colors so I was excited to even have the feature.... hopefully the devs can figure our a way to get it in there or maybe on a rom.

The US version doesnt really need it, if you compare the screen vs the international version then you will see how dull the international version is compared to ours.

Bah, don't try to use common sense on us. I'm totally joking of course. For the rest of you someone will sure enough port over that setting.

Coming from Amaze 4G

So, I was checking out the Samsung Galaxy S2 at my local T-Mobile store, and was comparing / contrasting it very closely with the HTC Amaze "Ruby" 4G. Some of the things I noticed were:
* An odd blu-ish hue coming from the display (anyone notice this?)
* Low resolution screen compared to Amaze 4G (I could see pixelization on the SGS2)
* The AMOLED Plus display is much darker than the qHD on the Amaze 4G
* HTC's SenseUI is much smoother than Samsung TouchWiz
* The Amaze 4G has a 1280x720 front-facing camera, compared to 640x480 on SGS2
* Lack of shutter button (or video recording button) on Galaxy S2
* No wifi calling on SGS2
I'd been pretty much sold on the Samsung Galaxy S2 until I actually saw it in person today. Anyone else bothered by these things?
Definitely the wifi calling.
Add to the list that I'm seeing no tethering without updating your contract.
I've heard pros/cons about the screen resolution vs size and industry standards.
shutter button nice but not a deal breaker.
I wonder which one is going to be easier to root and rom? I dont particularly like either sense or touchwiz.

Hmmmm I was in the store for a little over an hour comparing the two and I ended up getting the SGS2.
* I didn't notice the odd blue hue coming from the display and didn't think the screen was that much darker than the Amaze. Did you try adjusting the brightness?
*I thought both UIs were pretty snappy and didn't notice any lag switching between homescreens and adding widgets on either device.
*i won't argue about the actual numbers for the front-facing camera but I didn't notice a difference between the pics I took with each camera.
* Neither device launches with wifi calling. It's supposed to be included in an ota update from t-mobile. they make you get a new special sim card and everything to make sure that it will work once they do roll it out.
*I did notice some slight pixellation on the device on some sites but it didn't bother me enough not to get the phone.
It was a really hard choice for me. The deciding factors for me was that I preferred the vibrant screen on the SGS2 and I preferred Touchwiz. I think Sense is more elegant and better-looking but in the past I've found it a little obtrusive and seems to use up more of the phone's resources than Touchwiz.
I think they're both two amazing phones. It all comes down to personal preference.

Did you try tethering or hotspot?
I definitely noticed the blue-hue on the Samsung. The screen's color temperature is too cold. I noticed this in Samsung's Amoled displays.
The screen does appear a little blury, especially compared to the Amaze 4G
Both of those factors made my eyes hurt after playing with the S II for about 30min. I walked away really disappointed, because I really wanted to like the S II.
Regarding the screen brightness... For some reason unbeknownst to rationality... There are multiple brightness controls buried in multiple menus. when turned all the way up...this thing is blinding.

3 things 1) The front facing camera on the Galaxy S2 takes picks in 1600x1200. 2) There is no way I can understand how you see Sense on the Amaze being smoother then Touchwiz. 3) with the screen being darker did you make sure to adjust the backlight on the Galaxy S2 cause at full brightness you could mistaken the damn thing for a light house outside. Lol

I think he was trying to troll about the ffc and ffc doesn't need to be better than vga its only used for video calling. We all know no matter how it is htc cant program sense properly if their life depended on it.The S3 Qualcomm processor flies on this phone compared to the sensation and amaze 4g. There will be a color editor app there is one on the samsung galaxy 2 carriers decided to set it to cool like a tv i have no reason why.
Well said.
I was the first to get the SGSII in my state (HI) this morning and before leaving the store spent a long while on the Amaze and SGSII.
I'm done with HTC. Touchwiz to me in my opinion is junk...It lags so much on simple tasks from when I had my MT4GS. Just the feel and experience of HTC annoys me now.
The Amaze having a better camera is a marketing gimmick. I took pictures with both, emailed it to myself and compared them in close detail. Being a photographer for over a decade I know that the SGSII has a kick @$$ camera.
The processor on the SGSII is noticeably more quicker than the Amaze.
Screen wise....no comparison. Obviously he didn't adjust the settings...

coming from sensation which is the Amaze basically without the better camera and the extra Ram, i sat there for 30 minutes comparing my phone to the SGS2 and i can tell you i used to be hard core hater of samsung devices and i left the store and put my Sensation on e-bay. The brighter screen and bigger screen won me over and i had a custom rom and all the goodies on my sensation and oh yeah if anyone says this phone isnt smooth and fast as hell then they really need to play with a stock sense phone for a while .although the Amaze was really snappy for a sense device it still dont hold a candle to the SGS2.
I'm a big fan of vanilla Android so I hate sense and touchwiz. But after using touchwiz for a day or so, I have to admit its much better than sense.
I love my phone. Barring any physical issues, I won't understand how anyone wouldn't like it.

I'm sorry? I'm just trying to help people who actually want to know if there are any issues with the phone they're debating on buying.
For me it wasn't even a question of which phone to get. I bought the SGS2(566.29$} at 09:11 and played with it until about 7pm. The low resolution on a stretched screen is what did it for me.
Sad, because the SGS2handles video through the hdmi MHL adapter much more smoothly

I had the phone for 10 hours before I started posting anything bad about it.
So, clearly it wasn't since minute one of the phone coming out.
Yes, I'm clearly warning people about what was for me a definite deal breaker. I've also recommended people buy the SGS2, because they have 14 days to return it and exchange for a different phone with no 50$ restocking fee if they don't like it.
Many people are debating which one to buy and are asking about the experiences we've had. I'm telling people about my experience so they can make an informed decision and not regret it whichever phone they go with.
The sh!ttiest thing is that i'm pretty sure the SGS2 is going to have a better DEV community.

maybe you just got a bad device, that is possible all phones arent created equal . I couldnt see getting the Amaze since i just had a sensation ,virtually the same phone now only amaze has a little more ram. i played with both phones for a while and the amaze just didnt interest me because i already had that plus HTC's build quality has gone to **** IMO, i had 4 sensations and they all went back for the same reason with the dust. I just opened my mind a little and im giving Samsung a chance

New to Galaxy Nexus and ICS. (also have Galaxy Note)

I just picked up a Galaxy Nexus alongside my Galaxy Note now.
What should I know/be aware of in terms of optimizing or making my Nexus better? Apparently there's a screen/brightness problem with this?
Also, the main reason I grabbed a Nexus is to experience vanilla Android OS. Touchwiz isn't so bad for me, but now that I realize the difference, I'm glad I got both phones.
Thanks guys
What brightness problem?
The only things that I think of now are you probably need to watch out for your battery life and turn on GPU rendering only if you feel the phone lags.

Only 1GB of ram and looks like a bigger version of the S2. Quad core is nice but not sure about the battery. What totally made me not want this only 8mp camera, I was going to get it if it was 12mp in heartbeat. but 5 vs 8 price for performance not really worth it.
There is another leak where in fact it says it has a 12mp camera

Why on earth do I need a quad core phone?

development = more bugs for us to test.
I rather just have a polish OS. I don't want to be carrying a camera and a phone, I rather have good camera in my phone. if I had the S2 camera or the iphone 4S, I wouldn't care as much about a 12mp camera. I know many people here believe the nexus camera is not that bad, but I think that's just being ignorant. I think its pretty lame for being newer then the S2 and the camera being worst. I can go on and on about it also not having a SD slot and pentile screen.

Nah, the phone is over hyped. Normally I always stick with my contract for two years. But the reason of me switching so fast is because the faster I sell the nexus phone, the more value I get. Not to mention if the Galaxy S III does come with a 12mp + LTE internet for AT&T i'm going to switch in a heartbeat.

I owned a GS2 before my GN. The difference is suppose to be with jagged edges and not colors and you cannot see any of that in the GN like you can on lower res devices that use pentile displays.
For color, we can already improve that with kernels and apps for the GN so still don't see your point...
Will a Super Amoled plus screen look better, I am sure to some degree it will but to complain about the screen we have now is ridiculous.

Then pentile screen is not that problem
1. 1gb of ram is more than enough for a phone, heck most phones with 512mb run fine
2. The stock color settings are what make the super amoled hd screen appear inferior to the super amoled plus, that can easily be fixed, the whites on my screen are some of the best I've seen.
3. Quality of a camera isn't dependant on its mega pixels, that only determines the size of the picture, the quality of the pictures is entirely dependant on its sensor and lense, the gnex has a decent sensor, but it's nowhere near the best. We still don't know about the gs3's sensor, so we can't judge how good it's camera is yet.

Screen Difference Discussion

Hello XDA!!!
My sister's boyfriend has the Samsung Galaxy SII Sprint Variation and I noticed that his screen was MUCH more vivid than my own screen. Colors were deepers, more saturated and just overall looked more brilliant.
I checked his settings and both of our screen brightnesses were all the way up.
We both opened our facebook applications and the top of the facebook app where there is a blue bar is much darker and saturated and deeper blue than mine.
Has anyone else seen another variation of the screen? I am concerned for my phone as it may be a hardware issue or it isn't calibrated properly or something.
Please discuss/ respond/ help me out.
I Just compared mine to my buddies ATT SGS 2 and the screens look pretty much the same to me..
When i look at the colors compared to my wifes sensation ours looks super nice..

Sprint variant has a color saturation option in their display settings menu. They can set their screen color mode to standard, dynamic, etc. Ours doesn't have that option.
If his was set to a more vivid setting, it would explain the color calibration difference.
Also, our phones use different graphics processing than the Sprint variant, so a comparison doesn't really say much. Galaxy SII is a branding name, the phones are vastly different though.
Is there a way to acquire this option via an app or something?

Nope. It has to do with the Exynos processor in the Sprint/International versions. It was what allowed supercurio to create color calibration tweaks. Our phone has an Adreno 220 gpu and our color profile coding is vastly different.
That difference was part of the reason why Supercurio couldn't complete a quick fix (kernel/app) for color tuning on our device, but could for the Exynos equipped phones.
---------- Post added at 05:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:03 AM ----------
You can use something like Screen Adjuster from the play store, but adding color layers will alter your screens black production (or lack thereof rather) and it will kill your battery.
Here's the app, I wouldn't recommend it though.

Your issue has nothing to with processors. It's the screen itself. Let me guess, yours is manufacturer in Korea right? There's a major thread floating here that discuss this issue alongside the spots, mura, and lines. The batches that are manufactured in China seems to have the improved screen you're looking for. I can bear witness to it myself.

[Q] Something to consider when buying a (new) N7100?

Hello,
1. I have to buy a Note 2 in germany.
I saw in the shops that there seems to be a different type of displays on the Samsung galaxy models. Last week I saw a SG S3 and a Note 2 side by side and the whites on the S3 where much better as on the Note 2. Normally it is the opposite way around?!?
I did not follow up the Note 2 thread on XDA to know if I have to take care of something.
Has there been bad early batches? (SDS or something like that)
2. Is there a big difference if the Note 2 is a EU or a german version? I am going to root the phone.

No bad batches afaik.
SDS is a primaraly a software issue and not hardware originated.
There are 2 kinds of GN2:
1. N7100 with quadcore cpu that supports HSPA+
2. N7105 with dualcore cpu that supports LTE (4g)
Do you something know about the contrast differences?
I cecked the colour rofile settings on both devices and the screen brightness, but these certain S3 had a better display than the Mote 2.
That's due to the high ppi of s3.

The Optimus pro does not have such a good battery life. But I just found one statement according battery life.

Yes exynos platform is somehow very good when it comes to battery life and Amoled has almost unbeatable color saturation.
But...
I'm a long time Samsung user. However Samsung disappointed many of us with its open source policy.
If you're planning to use CyanogenMod roms, stay away from Samsung.
I nearly always use CM or AOSP.
I saw many ROMs of these kind in the developement section. Do they have serious bugs?

Bugs? You misunderstood.
All of them are based on CyanogenMod and at the end they are using the same source code.
CyanogenMod is not/will not be as good as Samsung stock rom due to lack of exynos source codes. CM developers can't do much without them.

If you want pure android (therefore CM) experience buy a google device
If you want a CM compatible device, buy a qualcomm chipset device
If you don't care about them, buy a Samsung device.

Yes I did. I already had a Galaxy in my hands, so I know where the settings are.
For comparison I checked the text on the Settings menu on both devices and looked at the white text on the dark background. The S3 display was much sharper and the text was more white than the N2.
I know other smartphones with different display types (HTC one for example), so I just wanted to know if the galaxy series do have the same "problems".
Are you sure? Just asking because of threads about SDS on N7100.

No bad batches afaik.
>>>SDS is a primaraly a software issue and not hardware originated.<<<
There are 2 kinds of GN2:
1. N7100 with quadcore cpu that supports HSPA+
2. N7105 with dualcore cpu that supports LTE (4g)
