T-Mobile doesn't want to sell me a phone in-store - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So after calling my T-Mo store yesterday to ask if they were going to have phones today they said that yes, they would, but only a few. So I had to ask if there was a list at all, didn't seem like he wanted to offer that information, but I asked to be put on it and he did. Didn't bother to explain to me how their system was going to work. I assumed I should be there first thing in the morning. Hell, I was there before the employees! Mind you there were 5 of us standing in front of the store for 20 mins before they opened the door. Then we walk in and they're like deer in the headlights. Uhhh uhhh uhhh. The people at the top of the list have til 5 p.m. to pick it up, if they don't then we'll call the next people for the next day. So conceivably, they could sit there with these phones for DAYS if the people they call don't come in. Why the hell wouldn't they sell me the phone when I'm right there, cash in hand!? Couldn't they have come out and told us this when we were standing outside? Did they think we were there to pay our bill? Idiots!

Cool story bro

Every T-Mo store I called said they are not allowed to "hold" a phone at all, that it is company policy. They have to sell them "first come first serve"
They were messing with you man, you should go back and threaten to call corporate and tell them customer service told you it's company policy that they cannot hold the phones for ANYONE

I tried calling CS and they said there was nothing they could do and that they couldn't override the stores policy. One guy was supposedly setting me up with another store close to me that he had already talked to them and they would sell me a phone today. Well the guy never came back on and instead it just rang straight to the store. So then of course, these guys have NO CLUE what I'm talking about! Just so frustrating. Seems like every time I have to deal with them it's more and more crap. They really don't care about anything. If I hear them say, "I understand," one more time I'm slappin someone.

anyone else have this problem today?

I got mine last week from T-Mobile...first come first serve (I was the first person to walk out of the store with it).
However, I did go to Wal-Mart to try and buy one and they said they would only sell it to new contracts.
Seems the stores are all doing something different....

are you dealing with a TMobile corporate store or a franchised location that is privately owned, but only is licensed to operate under the TMobile name? The reason I ask is because Verizon corporate stores have to follow a certain set of rules, but the privately owned locations seem to be able to do their own things. That would make sense if customer service told you they can't make the store do anything...because it may be a privately owned store. It could be there is no such thing as corporate owned stores and they are all franchised, in which case you may be wise to relax and become a welcome customer instead of "that guy" because they could hold out on you for quite some time for fun.

Something like that happened to me today, I called the tmobile store by home yesterday, the dude slip out and said the GS3 was there but he couldn't sell it, I call this morning like at 11am and asked if they had it, they asked me if I was a new customer or upgrade, I said upgrade and they put me on hold well she comes back and tell me sorry not available till Monday :/. Call again and talk to someone else, I lied and told them new customer and they got my name to get the phone, I go to the store to changed my one s for it and they act like they didn't have it, told them ok I just want to return the phone and closed account (you know I wasn't gonna closed it but I wanted to pushed them) manager comes out, we have one sorru for the inconvenience.... Yeah really the hard to get a phone, people is funny sometimes, and annoying too

B.S.
You should've called corporate right then and there! If they have 20 people on a list, they set aside 20 phones and sell the rest to walk in customers! I'm angry for you! Same with the B.S. some TMO stores are telling people the must upgrade to 5gb data plans.

I went in on the 21st to a tmobile corporate store, salesman said they got 50 in. He goes back and gets one and then starts up like I'm a new customer. I tell him I am an existing one and he says he wont sell it to me. That there only for new customers. I called him a couple names and walked out. I was pissed. Called another corporate store and they said they had 50 also. I explained the deal and they said no problem, come on in. Had to drive 30 miles more and got it. I was still PO'ed so I went back to the first store, with the nice GS3 sealed box in hand, walked in (around 10 salesman and 5 customers in the store) and shouted out "whos the one that wouldnt sell me a GS3 about an hour ago?" Then I held the box up while everyone was looking at me by this time and said " I went to a real tmobile store where they treat an existing customer like they should and look what I have". Man that felt good to put him in his place in front of everyone in the store

Well i was on the list just too far down. Said they only had 4 phones. Must have all been franchise stores I guess.

Especially Non corporate stores will only make money on upgrades that have some type of plan change.

This is what happens to a hugely popular product. Look at the iPhone, it wasnt subsidized for how long? I could have swore att wasn't selling phone off contract either. Supply and demand my friend. Try a different store or different time.

I got mine on the 27th. I called 6 or 8 different T-mobile stores, but no one had any. I finally found one in Atlanta. The woman I talked to there was real nice. They had one GSIII left, and when I asked her if she could hold it for me, she did. I think it's all in who you talk to. And how.

My local corporate TM store has white & the blue version!

I know that the T-Mobile's employee store already had the phones in stock a while ago before the retail stores actually had them. It's unfortunate some of the stores out there don't really want to sell a phone...
Seems to be a huge delay thou; apparently Canada had priority so shipments went there first.

I love that. I gotta do that someday lol.

I used to work at T-Mobile and most stores did stock some before launch. Most stores won't sell to upgrades and will be reserved for new activations. That's most places, even your big box stores.

[Q] Skeptical about buying EVO off Craigslist

I'm finally getting an Evo - however I plan on buying it from craigslist. There are a few people selling in my area for about $300, but I talked to one guy and he was willing to go down to $200 for me since I asked for $250 but it's a bit of a drive. Now I've seen good deals like this before, but the guy seems a bit skeptical but having delt on craigslist before... I know some people are just like that.
The phone (HTC EVO obviously) is brand new and un-opened, but I've never seen the box (other than the picture he sent me of it) and I wanted to ask if there was anything I could do to make sure it really is brand new and has not been opened or replaced with rocks! I could ask him to open it in front of me... if there is nothing wrong with it as he claims then he should have no problem doing it since I'll be buying it.
That's my only idea.
Is there a way to find out if it's stolen or blacklisted by sprint?
Any help is appreciated.
You can ask him for the ESN, then you can call sprint and ask them is it is clear for activation....if so, be sure to visually inspect it to ensure that is the one you are buying

Askfor the esn and call sprint and tell them u wanna do a esn check then check the box its not like sealed or anything it just slides open but inside everthing needs to be sealed in plastic battery phone and ask l phone will have a sprint screen protrxtor on it thats new I get evos all day fromsprint for 300

Hey I can't beleive I didn't think of that! That's why I posted I guess haha. Thanks a ton guys.
Is the ESN visible if the phone packaging has never been opened?
Yes. It's on the outside barcode.
Thank you sir!
Call him now.

i purchased my last phone, a Touch pro this way. met him in a parking lot(walmart, HIGH traffic) popped open the phone, called sprint, told them the situation(they were cool with it) read off the ESN, came back clean, done deal.
I very much recommend bring a buddy or two. just in case!
I got mine off Craigslist, I just met the person at a local Sprint store and had the sales rep check it right there, he even called into the activation center to double check for me. Then took it home rooted, blah blah, and then activated later on the website.

The best option would be to contact the seller and see if he would be willing to complete the transaction at a Sprint retailer. This way you will be in a public area, and it can be checked prior to handing over the dough. Good luck on the transaction, and enjoy your new EVO.
I think I'll write up a little 'Craigslist Buying Guide' with all this good information... And now experience!
I got two calls back last night, one of which would meet me at the sprint store! Her Idea too. But on my way out she called back and said she had another offer for more money... And I wasn't about to start a bidding war for her benefit so I was upset and went back to my original seller. The guy lived super far but I was potentially getting a great deal. Once I got there, I checked out the phone and tried to get a good read on the seller... he was VERY strange as most everyone I've dealt with on craigslist have been. This is my first craigslist phone purchase however.
So I called sprint, did the number thing and went through hours of customer service crap. Turns out, the guy has a business account (probably a made up bogus business but with a real fed tax ID and crap - anyone can start a business) and he buys the phones with pre-paid visa's, like you would use when making online purchases or give away as a xmas present. So these visa's look just like debt/credit cards that his "Business" would use and he gets the phones with plans so they're discounted (even though I can't see how he would get the MIR??). Once discounted he sells the devices or 'the hardware' for profit and at a good deal (seemingly) to the consumers like myself. I'm not sure how he makes much profit considering the EVO is $200 after MIR not to mention he had to have paid the first month of service and other fees/costs.... Maybe he was genuine and just bought the phone and changed his mind... but it seemed very skeptical.
Ok so the purpose of using the pre-paid visas was that in 30 days when the new billing cycle comes... Sprint will not be able to bill his visa because its out of money! It's not attached to his name or business like a normal credit card would be and now they'll try contacting him but I figure he'd probably just ignore them. Then a cancellation fee would be added ($200 more) but that wont get paid either and then I would assume Sprint will blacklist the ESN untill it's bill are paid.
What do you guys think? There was a lot more to the story so it may be hard to figure out what he was doing exactly. Maybe he genuinely was ignorant. Was it smart to not buy the phone off him? (even though it was only $200 unopened)
I had some people come to my home that were selling something on Craigslist. That night my home was burglarized. Figure it out.
Craigslist can have some good people on there but so many scumbags it isnt worth it.
Well I think it's obvious you should always meet in a public place. I would NEVER tell someone to meet me at my home!
this guy sounds shady and it sounds like Sprint not activate that phone if it's attached to an account that owes them money.

premium retailer lies

Amazing what these stores get away with. my wife and I stopped in at a premium retailer and were looking at the dinc2 just out of curiosity. I liked it but told the salesman that I really need 4g for the constant tethering I do for work, I told him my upgrade HAD to be a 4g. He told me that there is a Sim card that updates the phone to 4g coming out very soon. Like an idiot I bought 2 on my upgrade and got rid of my Dinc 1. I ran the ruu right there in the store and unrooted, handed it to my brother. Throw your blackberry in the trash dude....
When I found out he lied the manager said he would not wave the restocking fee. He also said the activation for two years was irrevocable. Called Verizon, they waved it and said I have 14 days for the activation reset.
Manager of the store, when I called back, said since he is a premium retailer, he can and will charge the fee. had to call Verizon back to prove this untrue.
There must be no governing of these stores at all. , Verizon doesn't care and there doesn't seem to be much I can do. I love the phone actually but no way i'm buying it from these guys....but I HATE to have to fight with people over stuff like this
Anyway just fishing for opinions, and looking for any advise I can get.
at least i'm back to running magnolia. man I missed that ROM! Runs awesome on this phone too.
Unfortunately it is the retailers phone not Verizon's, so in fact he can charge whatever he wants. Bypass the manager and talk to the OWNER of the franchise should get it taken care of. I'm sorry that you were lied to but this is a perfect example of why doing your research is VERY important, who knows the store you go to may end up trying to charge every cent
If this is a 2 year renewal upgrade, you could have went thru Amazonwireless.com and purchased the Dinc2 for 1 penny + free shipping. Yes only a cent!
Tbolt and Droid 2 are also available starting at only a penny depending on your contract, discount and renewal.
I looked at Verizonwireless.com and they wanted $199-$30 Verizon credit = $169, then on my corporate discount website and they wanted $199-$30 Verizon Credit - $30 Corp discount = $139.
Amzonwireless.com 1 penny + free shipping and it was delivered to my door in 2 days.
just want to add my experience with a third party retailer. I bought a tbolt from one and didn't like it, I have a mifi pad so my phone doesn't need to have 4g I went to return it to get my dinc2 they said they couldn't because I didn't have the.sleeve with the serial numbers that goes over the box. so I went home and tore the house apart. then my wife, who has a photographic memory, informs me it didn't come with a sleeve. so I went back to the store and it took three calls to a manager and me raising all kinds of hell to get it switched. the tbolt was only two days old by the way. Morale of the story is third party vendors are crooked an will screw you all day if you let them

And to add to all the above... A lot of the salespeople have no clue as to what they are selling. They will tell you anything to make the sale.
I do know there are a few out there that do know what's up in the world of mobile phones, but where I live they are few and far between.
Google as I say (and many others) is your friend.
Hopefully you can get this straightened out without costing you more money.
I have to say that third parties are hit and miss. I manage a premium location in sc. We follow the guide lines of Corp. If customer service says waive then we waive. We are one of the few around that work off that philosophy. We want customers to have a better experience in our stores than corporate stores.
With that said I have had my own horrible experiences at premiums and authorized retailers. There a lot of crooks out there and will rip you a new one at the drop of the hat.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium

I freaking dropped it today. Put a small but unfixable dent on the top. The fine print of the guarentee doesnt mention condition of the phone. Hope I didnt just give them their out.
be wary of the bolt. most of the roms are buggy and that's not the devs fault HTC still haven't released official GB to my knowledge so that means no source code. and I can deal with poor battery life but the bolts batt life is just horrible. maybe mine was just a lemon I don't know. a good solution is a mifi it picks up 3 and 4g and is ultra portable I love mine

Back when I got my Titan from a premium box store, it would not turn on the second day. I called Verizon and they told me in the first 30 days I needed to go back to this store. They said I did not buy the protection plan, so it was not covered. I called Verizon customer service and they called this store and the VZW service rep corrected everything for me. She even let me listen in on the conversation as she set them straight. Try calling VZW and complaint about this third party and how they are doing you wrong.

Galaxy S2 White - Backorder - Who else is suffering?

So I just joined tmobile a few days ago and i ordered a Galaxy S2 (White) and on the phone they told me it was in stock and ready to ship. I even opted for overnight shipping. That was 5 days ago.
After calling tmobile they explained to me that they are completely UNAWARE of an items stock until the item is actually ordered. This is poor inventory organization to me. So I asked how long they think it would take, and they told me that there is no sure way to find out. It could be 2 weeks, it could be 2 months.
The best part is, they started immediately charging me for my account THE DAY OF ORDER. and when i brought that up they told me there is nothing they can do about that refunding wise. But i do have the option to cancel service alltogether.
This is messed up. Anyone else on backorder? Previously on backorder? How long did you have to wait?
Let it out. Feel better?

Sounds to me like you need to get back on the phone and complain until they put you in touch with someone who is going to make things happen for you. That's pretty poor service. I haven't had any issues with backorder but I have had my spats with tmobile. Just keep calling, keep your cool, and keep asking for someone with more authority.
I'm curious to see how it unfolds.
Wow, that is bad inventory management, you'd think in this day and age everything would organised electronically and these type of **** should not happen.
Please cancel and reorder a black one. Or argue till they give you a refund. I dont know the tmboile retentions number. Hope someone has it to help.
No reason for this. Customer service should care and make an effort to resolve this. You are a new customer for crying out loud!!!

Just because it is $450 (which for a no contract device like this is actually cheap compared to the $699 msrp) doesn't mean they arent making them anymore. Yes they are limited edition, but still advertised on their website, as well as wirefly etc
tmobile is closed today so that their employees can "Spend the holiday with their families". Are you kidding me? President's day shouldn't apply to ANYONE that is not directly in contact with THE president or a past president.

Anyways, the phone was shipped couple days later and received it within a week. so, I suggest giving them another call and see what the status is. Good luck!

[Q] AT&T Preorder Problems?

Thought I might ask here, am I the only person not able to order this phone? After two days, and hours on the phone, whenever I place my pre-order, I get a confirmation email...and then seconds later, I get a cancellation email. You can't pre-order this over the phone or in stores...is there some special number I don't know about, to call and get this issue resolved? I've literally had an AT&T service rep tell me that they will just continue to cancel my order, and I'm out of luck.
I've thought about trying with bestbuy, but I have unlimited data, and Bestbuy (online) doesn't give an option to upgrade to the unlimited LTE add on.

First I ordered the full price Note and received a confirmation email, then I ordered my wife's with discount for the 2 year contracrt, again confirmation. This time, it worked, so both ordered and confirmed for 11/6 ship date. Now if you were ordering only one, no idea, but finally worked for me by ordering only one at a time.

Yeah, I'm only ordering one. And I'm not going to risk being charged 700 dollars, when I'm trying to upgrade at the discount price. I see a few other people have had the same problem, but there aren't any solutions posted. Unfortunately, ATT just says to wait and buy it in a store, which isn't an option for me. Long story short, it's a gift and the person buying it is half a country away. And it's bs that I'd have to wait even longer, due to their crappy system haha.

On-the-phone reps had no clue, told me I could go to a store to preorder it. Store had no clue, said there's nothing in their system about it. "We won't sell out, just come in on the 9th and get it here." URGH. Such a giant waste of time.
Reps told me to come in as well. I asked if they thought there would be a line guy said usually not for samsung. I asked what time they opened he said 9 I said ill be here at 8.

I've thought about trying with bestbuy, but I have unlimited data, and Bestbuy (online) doesn't give an option to upgrade to the unlimited LTE add on.

Stop believing dumb **** you hear on the internet. I work for BBY and there is almost nothing we can't do when compared to carrier stores. Unlimited data? Effing easy. Blows me away that people would still believe that BS

You'd be doing whats called an alternate upgrade. Basically upgrading your dads line to the note 2 then putting his original phone back on his line and putting the equipment on your line (note 2) if his old phone did not need data before it won't add data. I do these at least once a day with no complications. It's incredibly easy and done more often than regular upgrades are. And you shouldn't have to call and cancel anything. Just have the associate doing the upgrade make sure and show you that your dads original equipment has been returned to his line.
I wish the employees at my lo Al vest buy could figure out how to do an alternate upgrade. I tried to do one last month on my wife's line and none of them could figure it out. I just took the phone to an att store after I left best buy to get it taken care of.

You might have an incompatible rate plan code. Apparently I had an old rate plan with an old code that the instant savings discount didn't recognize. I got all of this info from someone on AT&T live chat. They told me to call Premier and tell them to update the code and that they'll know what I'm talking about. 5 minutes later I was able to get the $100 discount and my preorder was in.

Dumb s? Really now...look at your own GD website. It doesn't give the option to upgrade to unlimited LTE, it just gives the option to not CHANGE anything. It does not clarify if that will upgrade to the unlimited LTE add on.
Look at your own site before *****ing. No wonder no one takes Best Buy seriously lol...
As for everyone else, I got a higher tier customer service, and they can't figure it out. It's basically FUBAR'd. In more detail, they said that the order isn't even making it through. That they, for some reason, don't believe I'm me. So I'll have to take care of it through a bit more complicated way.
Good luck for anyone else trying to order from ATT. I went on their forums, and I'm not the only one dealing with this hassle lol.

You're *****ing about our website not keeping your ****?? So a system that is based off of someone else's system (ATT in this case) didn't work correctly? Get off your lazy ass and go to a store. That way you can get it done correctly without having to deal with any operator error

Comon now guys, let's keep it civil on on-topic.
My preorder on att's site was cancelled and now it instantly cancels when I try to reorder.:crying:

This pre-order has just been a nightmare. I couldn't even get to ordering it as the site just gave me an error. Customer service told me to do it at a store, store told me they don't even have it in their system to pre-order it. What's the point of a pre-order that doesn't work?

Heh, just got off the phone with support. We tried two different credit cards, both are empty not used very often, and it denied both then locked the account. She said I'd have to go to a store to show two forms of id to unlock the account. Yea, their system is ****ed up.
Preordering is a major waste of time. Yet another advantage of not being a iPhone user is not having to order early just to try and get it delivered day 1.
I can see certain situations where you might want to buy online and have it delivered to someone half a country away as a gift, but on the whole there is no incentive to do it.
The phones will be in stock unless their delivery didn't arrive on time. As great a phone as the Notes are, they are still in a fairly niche market. Not many people like the idea of this massive phone. People still freak out when they see me pull my phone out. My buddies will give me even more crap with the bigger screen when I get mine in a few days.
Best Buy handles everything very quickly. If you have a standalone Best Buy Mobile location near you, go there. My experience has always been better there, but that's just my experience. Less lines, less crowded.

That reminds me. I need to call geek squad again. They've been double charging my card for my protection plan every other month or so. I think this will be call number 9 to get them to fix it, again... :silly: Started when my OG Droid's touch screen died, and verizon wouldn't do anything to help me out, so I ditched them and went back to at&t. Got the Dell Streak because the Atrix wasn't out yet. 29 days later the Atrix dropped, so I swapped over to that. They "canceled" the protection plan and started it up on the new phone, but the Streak plan is haunting my account. It just won't go away. The geeks at BB can't do anything, I always have to call their customer support.

Moto 360 on Tmobile

I have a question about ways to pay for it threw tmobile. Is EIP available or do you have to buy it outright? I keep getting different answers. On the 19th of November i went into one tmobile store to ask about the watch and was told I would be able to get the watch for $0 down and only have to pay the tax and then $10 a month after. Now i finally decided to go ahead and go in and do it today, but now im being told I cant do it but this is a differnt tmobile location from the one i went to before. I did a google search on it and on tmobiles own forums people are saying you can buy it threw EIP with either $0 down or half down. So im a bit confused. Could someone help me. Was it avvailble at one point then they stopped it?
I asked about the 360 at my T-Mobile store today and they said they didn't think would be carrying it. I hope you are right and they are wrong.
I don't see why its not a straight forward answer. I don't understand how one store say we can get, even looked it up before they told me I could get it on $0 down. Now all of sudden you can only buy it outright. I see all over the web that you can do EIP on the moto 360. Does anyone have more information on this.
OK I talked to a rep that cleared everything up for me. You can get the Moto 360 on EIP but only in store and they have to be in stock. You can not buy it and have it shipped or anything like that.
i did the EIP thru tmobile i live in ny but went to a store in nj that had it some stores dont carry the watch yet. So the staff probably have no idea. But i can definitely say that they do offer it

Yeah, I just hate that it's all one company but one store knows something and another store knows nothing. I hate that with company's period. I think everybody should all have the same information. I even called t-mobile and just got a straight no you can't do WI on the motorcycle 360, then I went ahead and talked to someone on chat service on t-mobile site, and they explained it to me. That you can do it . It's just seems to very Lil stores as got them cause no one I call has them and don't know when they will get them. I wonder why not all stores didn't get them.
thats typical with all wireless providers; call 3 different people working for them, and you will get 3 different answers..
piss poor training, un motivated employees, and a confusing way of doing business all leads to stuff like this..
Some people act like they didn't even know what I was talking about. One rep I called couldn't even tell me anything about it and other just flat out said no, one person thought it was a phone and told me they didn't sell Motorola products. I'm like this us ridiculous. How is it possible to work at a place like this and not know anything about what your company is selling and doing. I worked for plenty of companies where every store got the same memo on what was going on, so that everyone knew, rather that was your department or not. You could help the customer or at least point them in the right direction...
Whew... Good thing I got mine on the 19th then. They sold out of 7 of them in 1 day and he held one of the last 2 for me. Ive waited for this Black band, Silver face combo and haven't been able to find it so I am happy my local store got one
Yeah it sucks. I wonder why so low on stuck with them.
