Where is the screen setting? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Where is the screen setting, I've been looking everywhere, I always thought there was a movie, and dynamic setting.
This is on the T-Mobile version.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Not on our phones I'm afraid, that and the brightness swipe on the statusbar were left off unfortunately

Yep, the US variants did not get this feature

Damn that sucks for you guys, I don't know why they have to mess around with different versions of the phone they should all be equal.. a universal standard if you will

(Q) Auto Screen Brightness

Is the screen brightness supposed to drastically change when auto brightness is enable. I've been playing around with it and noticed that when auto brightness is enable the screen will drastically change in different lighting conditions (with a couple second delay) For example, ill walk into a darker room the screen will get a lot dimmer after a couple of seconds and v-versu. The reason I asked is that my eco 4g would gradually adjust to point t where I didn't even notice.

I've noticed it rapidly changing like it can't decide a few times, and overall it's a bit too dim outdoors. Coming from an Evo as well and I never noticed it changing either.
Just going to keep an eye on it, not a huge issue for me. Might see if there's any way to override and manually specify the auto brightness thresholds.
There's a second setting called "Auto adjust screen power" further down on the display page - it could be that. It's some sort of thing that analyzes what's actually on the screen and tries to adjust for it.
I think it may just be a samsung thing. I have a Galaxy Tab 7" and I noticed that it was doing this as well, and it drove me crazy. I just went into settings>display>brightness and turned it down manually to just under halfway indoors and if I know Im going outside, i turn it all the way up.
Ive also noticed thst it was auto adjusting even when i had it disabled which was probablt the "power adjustment" thing... But once i caught it turning the brightness down to "prevent overheating"!?

Really?! Thats bizarre. I wonder if it will constantly have the screen down while wireless tether is running.

Thanks. I also have auto adjust disabled. Since others are seeing it then I assume its a Samsung thing. Ill wait to see if others confirm. BTW this may just be me being a geek. I notice every little thing. The other is that the buttons at the bottom of the phone aren't as sensitive as the eco.

A tip I read somewhere but haven't tried yet is to turn auto brightness off and when you do, hold down on the notification bar (don't pull it down, just hold a finger on it) and slide left or right to adjust brightness on the go. Not for sure if it works but give it a try (I'm chargin my phone while it's off now so I can't yet).

Worked for me too. That's great. Thanks. Where did you read that? Are there other tips?

Can't remember anymore besides the screen shot one which has been mentioned. Tap home and the power button simultaneously. Also can't remember where I read it.

I would honestly say its a combination of things BC I have used roms where its totally obvious (on froyo) where on others its completely impossible to notice the change.

They kept the good features from the Epic. I like the feature in "Contacts" where you can swipe right on a contact to call them and left to send a message as well

I've had the brightness at the max, and turned off the Auto Adjust Screen Power option. Just while browsing XDA the screen dimmed, and when looking at the brightness setting it states "To avoid overheating, maximum brightness has been reduced.". This has happened at least three different times.
I'm hoping this isn't a serious issue. Have you had it do that multiple times for you as well?

Auto-brightness-once it goes up it doesn't come down

On my nexus, my auto brightness is not working right. If I take my phone in bright light, the screen brightness goes up. However, if I move away to a dim place or cover the light sensor, it doesn't dim the screen. Its like its stuck on that higher setting till I turn the screen off and on. Of course we have the very low brightness issue also, but this is different. Can anyone try this on theirs' and see what happens?

Same here. Minor inconvenience. Last phone did it also.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I've never had a phone other than an iphone 2g that did this. Its very bad for battery life. I mean, you would be using your phone in bright light and then move away to a dim place and expect the screen to go down in brightness to save battery. But its but working here this way.

guys, especially the new Verizon owners, do you all notice the same thing on your phones?
Please can someone test this out? I need to see whether its a defect on just my phone or whether its normal behavior with the Nexus . Thanks.

Great, but it shouldn't do that. It should auto adjust on the fly. I saw it functioning fine on the Note I had. After the patch, does this work normal now?

OMG I've just tested my iPod Touch 4th Gen with my LED torch.
It behaves exact same as the Galaxy Nexus
Once the screen brightness has been boosted up, it won't go down until I switch the screen off and on again.
What the hell is this? Is it a kind of function but not a bug?

Yea, my old iphone 2g had worked the same way. Once it goes up, it doesnt come down. I've never had a android phone that works that way. All of them go up or down dynamically as needed. I'm sure the change is something new on ICS. Gingerbread & older OS did not do this, example: The Galaxy Note I had before Nexus would dynamically shift. But not the Nexus. On the Nexus, I have to turn the phone off then on for it "sense" the dimmer lighting to decrease the brightness.
Or simply not use auto-brightness.

You could do that, but the intent of this thread was to highlight an obvious flaw with ICS. Im sure thats how google wanted it, but why?

Did anybody find the patch and does it work?? I searched the dev section and all I could find was patches to increase the light levels of the auto brightness, couldn't find the patch or a fix for the auto brightness not dimming. If someone could link it or point me in the right direction that would be awesome
Bump
Nobody was ably to fix the issue of the screen not dimming???
Same here on 4.0.4, I find it very annoying. A friend of mine now uses AOKP MS5 on his device, which dims correctly (as I think of what "correct" is).

Stock android has always been in this way iirc...
Only phones not running an aop Roms (like samsung) lower the dimm...
CM9 has a specific option to enable backlight dimming and always had (yes, in gingerbread too)

Im the OP of this post, turns out most of the custom roms have an option under display settings called decrease hysteresis that allows the screen to dim. I am completely satisfied now.

Screen brightness shortcut missing on SGS3. Here is an alternative

One thing I definitely miss on SGS3 coming from SGS1 and SGS2 was the ability to change the brightness setting from from the top of the notification bar. You were able to slide your finger left to right and be able to change the screen brightness.
I found an app called Display brightness that can do something similar and thought I'd share as I am sure a few of you might also miss the old feature. You can set a screen brightness slider anywhere on the screen and change its transparency. It works a treat to be able to change brightness quickly and efficiently.
Here is the link on Google Play if you want to check it out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness
Gonna check it out, thanks
Holy crap that is awesome! Works on AT&T gs3. Thank you so much for pointing this out. Have to play with where I want it tho because it can interfere with the keyboard

Yeah its the best I've been able to find so far. Not sure why Sammy removed it from this phone but the app works. Finding a good spot to place it is key
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Feel kinda dumb right now, I see the indicator but how do I actually change the brightness?
Edit: I guess the bar was too thin. Once I made it thicker I was able to adjust it. Thanks guys
International version just got an OTA update that includes a brightness slider in the notification pull down. As well as adjustments to the minimum brightness for auto brightness
just tried this, and it is pretty awesome!
If you set all the transparencies to 0%, it works exactly like the stock s2 slider...except you can put this on any side you want. The key is figuring out where exactly to slide your fingers to get it to work consistently, but once you do its pretty awesome.
AAAA+++ Sweet!
very nice find. Works perfect.

Glad a few of you are finding it useful ! I still wish Samsung didn't remove it and not sure why they did. Every now and then I hit the brightness line by accident so I might try and put it in a different area of the screen to see which is the best place. That's the only tricky part. It is a nice app though as an alternative.

Oh nice I didn't know that. I had the international for a week until I sold to try the LTE and just know it wasn't there on either. Also on my sgs2 one of the newer firmwares removed it as well a figured it was intentional and too much trouble to add it. I hope you're right

there is actually already code in the tw_status_bar_extended.xml for this. it just isn't active. i noticed it when i was poking around there for my theme.
Just download notification toggles app free from the market it has a ton of options. Will solve the brightness toggle issue plus you can add short cuts to apps, reboot menu and a bunch more.

Awesome app! I almost hope that the brightness slider doesn't get added to the notifications window...there's already a lot up there.
It seems some on i9300 forums are not liking the brightness slider added in a release and some are requesting devs to remove from roms. I'll keep this app for now as I think its great

I dont believe its actually on the pulldown.. in previous tw versions you just slide across the status bar to the right to go up and down.. i may be wrong about the new brightness alider though.

This is really great. It's really convenient to set all the transparency settings to "0%" and hiding the slider at the bottom of the homescreen - just slide above the home button to adjust the brightness!
Edit: It works on the lockscreen too - wow!

Where are auto brightness -5/+5 settings ?

Yea. I know what you are talking about. I saw that on a galaxy s4. It is an auto brightness that allows you to adjust the brightness (half auto half manual). I want that feature too but I dont think tmobile galaxy s4 has it.
You also can't the brightness once you're below 5 percent.

You can do that useing this app from the playstore "lux auto brightness". I used it for a very long time on my old samsung gs3. When I really want to conserve on battery or want my screen much dimmer than stock brightness, that app does it. You can manually link your prefered brightness for each step It increases also.

[Q] Circle Short Cut Menu - not QUICK CIRCLE CASE

So I thought I saw something about this somewhere but can't find it wasn't in this forum no search hits or not searching right.
If I draw an arch from the bottom left of screen to bottom right or the other way around I get another menu with a few options. Right now it's set for Amazon and Accuweather. How do I change what's available on that menu?
I can't capture in screen shot.
never mind it's called Ring Pad and I have mine tweaked with G3 Tweaks.
How did you enable that? Is it as add on?

I have that coming up too but I don't have Tweaksbox anymore. It's probably a toggle I set with it which stayed after uninstalling tweaksbox. It must be one of the secret settings the blogs have been talking about lately.
