T-Mobile GS3, toggling data? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Is it possible to flip the T-Mobile GS3 to just a 2G connection for battery saving?
Also, would someone mind pointing me in the direction of a Google Wallet fix, if there is one? I'd love to spend that free $10.

As far as I know not in stock for data and for the google wallet the only way it might work it'll probably be by changing build pro to another phone

SA-i9250 with Tzones???

I'm planning on buying a Galaxy Nexus SA-i9250 and I wanted to know if I can use tzones with it? not Web2go but tzones. I currently have tzones on my iphone 4 I want to try out something else till the 5 comes out. I am looking at a Galaxy Nexus. From some research I've done the SA-i9250 is an international version so I've read it could work. But I would like to know if anyone has been able to use tzones for a prolong time. Any info is appreciated.

I'm sure it'll work. I have the $10 dumb phone plan, I guess that's web2go and it works. On tmobile smartphones, like gs2 and sensation, it always tells me to upgrade to a smartphone data plan. So if it works for me on the gnex I'm sure it'll work for you.

It will work. It doesn't show up in their database so any internet plan will work.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Will NOT work!
Once you pass the 10.2Mbps threshold, you have to pay for the upgraded plan. If your device (like my Nokia N900) is older then it will work. If you upgrade (to my Galaxy Nexus) HSPA+21 or higher then it will realize that you are exploiting the system and it will shut you off after a few days.

Traveling outside the country...

So I'm off to Costa Rica for spring break and I was wonder what would be the best thing to do with my phone. I want to take it with me but I also don't want to get international charges. From what I know, I'm fairly certain there is no possible way to get the E4GT on an international plan for "free".
I was considering calling Sprint to have them deactivate my phone for that time but if there's a way to spare the trouble of deactivating and reactivating I'd love to hear it.
I had an idea that it could be possible to develop a modem that completely disabled all signals other than GPS wifi and Bluetooth.
What is my best option? Just looking for a surefire way to avoid international charges, preferably without calling Sprint.
Thanks in advance everyone!

And if that accidentally gets turned off?

It's entirely possible there is not a cdma carrier in Costa Rica , so you may not get coverage anyways you can always go into settings and turn off international roaming also

If by some little chance you do get some kind of service there, wouldn't just turning off 3G data and not making phone calls be the same thing...?
Epic 4G Touch perfected by Calk!
You could just esn swap and old phone you have laying around, if it is a feature phone you can even save by removing the premium data option.
Btw if you are driving around CR the best maps are made by a local company for garmin gps units, both mobile and standalone. Don't expect something like google maps to be useful
navsatcr.com
These guys provide the maps for the gps units you get from the car rental companies in CR.
if you think you will be near a wi fi connection, install GrooveIp on the phone and use that to make free phone calls; it should work there as well, since the calls go through the internet,,
I don't plan on using my phone for calls, just wifi, games, and probably flashing roms lol. Gotta get my fix some how!
Anyway, turning off international roam should work, thanks everyone!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I was just going to make a question about this very same topic myself until I found this in search.
Going to Bermuda later this year, but wanted to take my E4GT with me just for music/alarms. There are some places that offer free wifi around Bermuda I read, so I was hoping to use it while I'm there.
I called up Sprint & they gave me an International rate (expensive, $1.96 a minute!), that would be safe then to assume, that there would be no Sprint signal down there and if I unchecked everything in the Roaming section under "Wireless and Networks," I should be good?
I don't want to act like a worried nellie but just want to keep my chances of coming home to a "surprise" from Sprint at a minimum as it's the first time I'll be going abroad with a smartphone.
Also, are there any other alternatives to Groove IP that are free?
ETA: Just downloaded Groove IP Lite, any one ever tried it?
Thanks.
Just got back from Costa Rica and I kept airplane mode on the whole time. No surprises yet so I believe that Airplane mode worked. On top of the fact that I don't believe they have any radios out there that Sprint phones are even capable of roaming on. Ill report back if anything changes!

Just sharin' my experiences - I've taken Sprint devices to Europe (which only work in Wi-Fi only) but I'll focus mainly on my trips to Japan as CDMA does work there. When I get there I usually turn the airplane mode on and wi-fi on (it will allow this if you didn't know.) When I know I need to make calls I turn data off and sync off just to be safe. Haven't had any surprise roaming charges yet in several years and often is cheaper than renting a phone - if you don't use it much.
This worked so good that I even had visitors from Japan use the same process and use wi-fi only. They were glad they did... especially now that we all use apps like Skype and Heytell.

Can't you tell Sprint to put your phone on a type of hold? My mom does something like that to discipline the younger bro

You can do that and still use google voice with your sprint number so if your bro gets disciplined and has a google voice he can keep on texting like it was never on hold he just has to be on a computer all the time or on wifi
FYI, my wife just went to El Salvador... I just hopped on Ebay and bought her a cheap ($20) GSM phone and she bought a $10 prepaid SIM when she got there from Claro. I didn't want her to take her E4GT there since it'd be so expensive to replace if she got 'jacked.

Are other GNex owners eligible for this also? $50 google wallet

Ok i saw the add that led me to the link below on XDA home page, now i know verizon isnt really supported by google wallet thus we had to side load the application. I see that it specifically says sprint but how would they know which Gnex is a sprint one or Verizon or Even and unlocked gsm one? Is there a way someone could Rip the apk from the stock sprint rom and load it onto a verizon Gnex?
http://shop2.sprint.com/en/services/popups/google_wallet_50_popup.shtml
They would beable to tell by a quick view of your build.prop if its a gsm/cdma nexus. Very easy for it to detect.
GNeX
AOKP
FRANCOS LATEST KERNEL
& WHATEVER [MOD AT THE TIME]
A build.prop can be spoofed, I think they actually record the MEID because calling the Money Network with wallet issues they asked for the MEID to find it in the system and there it will say it's a Sprint device but it's worth a shot. Try running a Sprint GNex build.prop for the next few weeks, can't hurt.

This is exactly why we can't have nice things. The minute you guys start scamming google wallet for 50$ google will shut down google wallet again for several weeks trying to patch things up lol.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I think Sprint is footing the bill on this. The $10 will be instant and from Google, the other will take 3 weeks as Sprint is going to apply the credit. Or something along those lines...
Ahh ok, well side note did Verizon change there stance on Google wallet? I was able to update my Google wallet apk via the market and I wasn't before it would tell me my phone isn't compatible with the application. And I never thought about he fact that sprint may be footing the bill. It essentially makes the cost of the Gnex $150

Straight Talk SIM Card

Hello. I was thinking of buying the Samsung Galaxy SIII from a t-mobile store, and getting Straight Talk's T-Mobile Micro SIM card. Would I be able to use the phone on Straight Talk's prepaid service then? Would I have any configuration issues or connectivity problems?
Thanks so much for your help.
I think you need to unlock your phone first but once you do, it should work fine.

Is unlocking the phone hard to do? How do I do it?
I bought mine unlocked from a retailer through Amazon. If you buy it through T Mobile you can ask them for an unlock code but I have read you need to have the account active and in good standing for 3 months. You can also buy an unlock code online from a few unlocking services.

Thanks man. Actually I found a lot of other people with the same questions. Turns out, as long as the phone is T-Mobile and the SIM Card is tmobile compatible from straight talk, it will work without unlocking it.
But thank you so much for your help man.
I am using my s3 on straight talk and all is great. No problems with anything. Data is good mms is good signal is good gotta love havin this badass phone for $45 a month. Plus I average 8-10 gb of data monthly no problems even tethering. Actually I'm tethered right now with my kindle fire and my girls nexus 7 and as long as its the tmo s3 and you get the tmo sim youndo not need to unlock.

This is good to hear. I originally planned on checking both T Mobile and straight Talk to compare services in my area. I went with T Mobile first with the $50 plan and within a week I was already throttled to 2g making mobile data nearly useless. I have my straight Talk sim ready to go but I'm stubborn and I'm gonna get my money's worth out of t Mobile service before switching.

Hello, I just received straight talk for tmobile on my galaxy s3 and can't get data/mms to work. I'm able to make calls/text. I'm using the APN settings that came with the activation kit. What's your APN settings? Thanks!

Switching from iPhone 5 to G Nex?

Before I begin I would like to share that I just came from the AT&T forums where I was going to post this question, however while uploading it it told me to correct the highlighted problems and would not let me post, even though there were no problems and nothing highlighted... LOL.
Anyways.
I currently own an iPhone 5 with 3 Gb data, unlimited texting, and I believe 450 minutes or something like that. I have not been satisfied with this phone. It has had numerous problems, and now the infamous "Cannot connect to itunes store" problem has struck me, leaving me unable to retrieve apps and music I've payed for. I want to eventually move to whatever nexus phone (If announced) they release at Google I/O this may, but until then, would like to change to my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus was bought directly from Google Play, and is factory unlocked to work on most GSM carriers, such as AT&T. I am wondering what I have to do to move over to the Nexus and forget the iPhone 5 exists? I've owned 4 Android devices before, all rooted and ROMed, and while I wish the stock OS felt more... stable... I do like it more then iOS (especially Paranoid Android). This is my first time, however, owning an Apple product on a contract (I've owned iPads and iTouches but obviously off contract) and I'm not sure how to proceed.
Currently I have the idea to order a sim adapter (ordered yesterday, actually, because I'd like to have one regardless) and pop the sim from my iPhone into my Nexus. I've read I'll need to switch APN settings to get data working correctly and at the appropriate speeds on the Nexus. Is that true? Will that work? I've also read I'll need to take it to the store or call AT&T to have them set it up or change the data plan. Is that what I'll have to do instead? I'm not sure which it is, whether I'll just have to change APN settings or if I'll have to go to the store for this to work, since there seems to be different stories for different phones on the forums. The one thing I really want cleared up is that if I have to have AT&T change my LTE plan to a different data plan that works with android phones, will that cost me anything? I don't want to pay a penny, I just want my 3 Gb's, messages and minutes on a different phone. Also I should mention my iPhone 5 picks up HSPA+ which is what the Galaxy Nexus uses, so I really don't see why AT&T would need to change anything or charge anything.
I wont be removing the iPhone from my plan, I just wont be using it. I am more or less going to replace my iPhone 5 with a Nexus for all my phone uses and needs. Is this going to cost me anything if I need AT&T to change the plans around for me? Do I even need to do that? If someone could please help me that would be much appreciated. Also if there is no new phone in May then I'll be switching to a GSM unlocked Nexus 4. Any thoughts or tips for if that will work too are also appreciated. Thanks! And I do apologize if this is in the wrong section. I've used this website for a lot of browsing over the years, but this is my first account and post.
(And for a company that prides themselves on making masterpieces that come "just working," my iPhone sure the hell doesn't "just work.")

He is moving back to his Galaxy Nexus, which he had before. If you aren't going to read a post and not be helpful, then don't reply.
I'm not American, so I don't know, but it should work.
I think youll have to contact att to have your 4g data provisioned from lte to hspa+ [the iphone 5 does have lte, correct?]. I had an old 3g sim card and when i got my nexus, i just stopped at the att store, explained that i needed a newer sim, and the rep gave me a new 4g sim, free of charge and the receipt said "4g for smartphone". No charge at all. And yes, to take full advantage, you'll have to change the apn from wap.cingular to a "phone" apn, which you can find by googling. Keep in mind you may not get as strong a signal with the nexus as with the iphone, which you probably already know. Small beans, if you ask me. Personally, I'd try to stay away from the sim adapters, and i've heard of some issues where you wouldnt want to mess up the sim slot. The only to use the adapter would be if your unsure you're going to stick with the nexus, and may want to jump back to the iphone, in which case you'd be going back to the att store again.
