[Q] lcd screen broke... need to wipe the built in memory - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I was playing paintball and I had my phone in my pocket. My son shot me in the pant leg and it hit my phone. The gorilla glass is freaking strong. The glass is intact but the impact shattered the lcd underneath the glass. Rather than try to replace the lcd, I want to sell the phone but first I want to wipe all of my data off of the built in memory. Does anyone know if that's possible without a screen and how?
Thanks in advance.

Try odin the stock ROM. It will overwrite the internal memory.

Glass cracked on my epic

the outer glass on brother's epic is cracked...if i was to remove the outer glass for him, will the screen still work...just wondering if anyone had any experience with that...Everything on the phone currently works but he doesn't want to deal with a cracked screen while messing with his phone.
Does he have TEP? Insurance would cover it I'm sure. I would suggest not to open it and attempt to fix it.

this will NOT work.. The whole screen needs to be replace..
If you have no outer glass you will not be able to use the touch screen feature... so that will blow, and the display screen below the touch sensitive glass is probably very sensitive and will most likely break if you touch it and mess with it, so my advice is don't mess with it man

Gorilla Glass

The new gorilla glass is really baby chimp glass. On my epic, narry a scratch or ding in the two years I hauled it around, always commando. But with my GS3, I dropped it from 18" and I have a huge spiderweb crack in the screen. Oh, the humanity!
I have the Sprint insurance. Am I covered for this? I heard there was a possibility of no coverage for physical damage....

Total Protection Plan is that, total protection...you should be covered. The deductible is $150 though :/
Go to the Asurion claim page and file, you should get a replacement next business day if there are units available. Other option is to send to Samsung for repair, that will cost $147 and covers round trip postage and repairs. You would be without a phone for about 1-2weeks though...
Apparently gorilla glass 2 is not as strong as gorilla glass 1

Thank you Xander, that worked perfectly. I believe that although I am not rooted I can save all the internal data and internal sd card on my pc and copy it over once I get my new phone. What is the best way to restore my phone to present condition (besides root and nandroid which I do not want to do)

You can copy your personal stuff (music, pics, videos) from the internal sd to the external one and then copy it over to the replacement one. App backup applications floating in the Play Store as well as the backup/restore from Google will back up the app only without the data...
As for a complete image copy, only way that I know of is to root and make a nanroid of what you have. There is a method floating in the dev section that will not trip the flash count, can't recall which method it is... And a return to stock found here
You mean that when YOU dropped a piece of GLASS it broke? Oh em gee...
Think the main problem with the sgs3 glass is it's not flat

Please don't flame. I am merely comparing the new gorilla glass to the original gorilla glass that was on the Epic 4G which was much more sturdy which many people agree with. Our two Epics went through hell many times over and we never ever had a problem with either. I am on my second phone now and really, it's just not the same quality. I take full responsibility for dropping my phone.
What I've noticed is that if the s3 has a face down impacted the screen survives. But if it lands on the bezel is will shatter like the back of an iPhone 4. I think this is 1. Because our screens have a slight curve and everyone knows curved glass is nice but its weak that way and 2. Because this phone is so thin there is very very little play between the screen and the inner components ,giving it nowhere to flex.

it is stronger... but it's also glass. glass that is strong means hard to resist scratches; which means its brittle and susceptible to cracking
LOL @ baby chimp glass. Hopefully that won't happen to mine *knock on wood*
I guess now will be a good time to lookup youtube videos howto to replace the glass/digitizer

[Q] Replacing the screen

Hello everyone. My phone's screen just broke. It was in my pocket, and the viewer thingy(not the glass), shattered somehow. Anyways, since it is way out of warranty, I've decided to replace the screen. Is there anything you suggest to me before I do so? Also, if anyone has any idea how this happened on an AMOLED, please explain. Thank you.
Ok, update. Samsung is honoring the warranty on the device, even though I've rooted and rommed, so now I need to know if there's any way to back it up. They are going to flash to stock, and the screen is completely broken. I have a password on the phone. Running AOKP JB milestone 1, the recovery is TWRP. Debugging is set to off. Is there any possible way?

Well seems like the digitizer is the one the broke. Did you something on your pocket with it? Or do you remember putting a lot of pressure with something on the phone? The screen suppost to be though as its a gorilla glass but with to much pressure it can damage the digitizer. If you getting it replace make sure that its glue correctly or you phone will look defective.

I had it in my pocket. The digitizer was the one that broke. I'll make sure.

Cacked screen repair

So I dropped my phone onto a tile floor and the screen shattered. The phone still works, but there were sharp edges exposed on the cracked glass. So I put some packing tape over the screen to hold the pieces from falling out. The phone still works, but really looks like a wreck with a shattered screen and packing tape.
Has anyone replaced a cracked screen on this phone? Are there any good links to show how its done? I believe the glass and digitizer are separate from the LCD, so how do I tell what parts I'll need?
I also found an LG G Pro E-980 on CL that has a corrupt EFS folder pretty cheap. There is a good chance I cannot restore the EFS folder since he doesn't have a backup. I could use the phone for parts. It really depends how much the parts will cost and how difficult it is to swap screens.
You can get a replacement screen from many sources. Amazon has listings for them for as little as $18.00. Do a search on YouTube for a video on screen replacement. Good luck!

[Q] Cracked Screen Repair Kit

Unfortunately, I recently cracked my phone's screen. So, I bought a screen off of eBay.
Does anyone have any experience with this kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261352263447
I know how to remove the phone's case to access the glass, and generally everything else needed to replace the glass.
But, I have no idea how to use the adhesives supplied. Can anyone share having used this?

Ive been fixing glass on note 2's for a long time now. First off all those tools are for taking off back cover and board out. Do not use on the glass. you need a heat gun and some patience, lots of it. I use a card trick, anyways after you remove the glass put the adheasive on the outside edges make sure its cleaned up then either stick glass on. or use uv glue to bond. IF you need any help let me know.
There are a few youtube videos. Look for galaxy note 2 front glass replacement.
