[Q] Replacing the screen - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello everyone. My phone's screen just broke. It was in my pocket, and the viewer thingy(not the glass), shattered somehow. Anyways, since it is way out of warranty, I've decided to replace the screen. Is there anything you suggest to me before I do so? Also, if anyone has any idea how this happened on an AMOLED, please explain. Thank you.
Ok, update. Samsung is honoring the warranty on the device, even though I've rooted and rommed, so now I need to know if there's any way to back it up. They are going to flash to stock, and the screen is completely broken. I have a password on the phone. Running AOKP JB milestone 1, the recovery is TWRP. Debugging is set to off. Is there any possible way?

Well seems like the digitizer is the one the broke. Did you something on your pocket with it? Or do you remember putting a lot of pressure with something on the phone? The screen suppost to be though as its a gorilla glass but with to much pressure it can damage the digitizer. If you getting it replace make sure that its glue correctly or you phone will look defective.

I had it in my pocket. The digitizer was the one that broke. I'll make sure.

Broken glass

Hey guys, am i the only one? Phone did not fall or something else, it is only one week since i bought it.
It's hard to tell from the picture, but are you sure it isn't just a scratch on the screen protector?
No, it isn't just a scrtch. Line became longer too.
Maybe you walked against something while your phone was in your pocket?
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
I would't post this if somethig like that happened.
Try to remove the original SE screen protector and see if the scratch/crack glass is on the display as well.
If it is, I would strongly suggest to take it to the nearest warranty repair shop.
It is scratched screen protector.
Yeah and the scratch went 2 cm longer itself
my arc has colorbubbles :S
in some points no more color
and over the Display at the display sensor its a bit broken
do you think i can change it by warranty ?
My Arc has fallen on the road 2 times & in my room 3 times.. Not a single scratch on screen.. Just a little scratch in the cornor where it's HDMI-thing...
Anyone know how to replace just the glass? Mine broke from dropping it face first on the ground

[Q] HELP! Screen cracked!

My phone was in my pocket today and somehow the screen has cracked. Its not the actual glass though and the touchscreen still works. Is it worth sending it in to HTC or could a mobile phone shop repair it?
Thanks
Can anyone help?
As long as you bought it from Staples, and took one of the protection plans with it, I'd say that you've got nothing to worry about. But my guess is that you haven't bought it that way simply because you've posted this.
I really don't think HTC's gonna own up to this. Although, I'm sure someone would be ready to exchange that if you throw in some money.
Oh, and just a tip.... Don't let that ANYWHERE near water. It's to do with how a capacitive touch screen works.
BTW, could I just ask how exactly it broke? Did you slip... or was the phone in your back pocket... was it in a tight pocket... were you mugged... That sort of suff.
Looks like you have dropped it as there is damage to the casing as well as the screen.

I did not drop it. That damage was done previously and is limited to the removable battery cover.
Anyone else?
Get a quote from your local mobile shop..or if your insured then they should cover it
do you get to fix it?

Screen Replacement.

So me, the cluts that I am, dropped my phone, and now there is a huge crack in the screen. FML. Anyway, the repair place told me it would cost $199 to replace it, as they need to replace the LCD as well, is this correct?
Cheers

I believe they design the Gorilla Glass on the phone to shatter but leave the contents of the LCD screen itself intact. Can you still use the screen? Meaning do the touch capabilities work?

If thats the case, I think that whoever your going through to fix it is just trying to rip you off. The screen costs 30$ and they will charge you 170$ for the manual labor. If it were me I would just buy a screen off of amazon if they have it or another site and fix it myself. But you don't want to hurt the contents of the phone either. Up to you ultimately.

So would say, something like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Touc...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1e6e1fbad4
be okay?
Seems legitimate to me. But I'd look and see if there are any videos on youtube or anything like that of people changing it so you know exactly what to do. Since the phone has a unibody case; there might be some temperamental pieces that come off.

The LCD screen is glued to the glass, it isn't possible to detached the LCD screen from the glass without damaging the LCD or leaving glue residue that will just make for a messy reuse of the LCD panel.
You can see what is involved replacing the screen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5TRf0REyMM

Screen problem

Hi everybody I have a question regarding a screen problem I have.
Like I mentioned in an earlier post I accidentally spilt a lot of pure alcohol(the kind you use to disinfect a wound or something) on my HOX.
After a while the phone screen showed some strange grey shape on the lower right part of the screen and a bright white long shape looking like water jumping from a fountain on the left side starting from the bottom of the screen extending to almost the middle of the screen. After turning it off for 8-10 hours they grey shape dissapeared and the white remains and it doesnt look like it will ever go.
Strangely enough the HOX has no problem everything is working but I noticed that some apps are working somehow over the white shape covering it and some others like facebook seem to be under it making it visible.
I made some screen shots to show you the problem but stangely enough this white shape is not shown at all in the screen shots!!!!
Can anyone tell me where this thing might be?
LCD? Digitizer? elsewhere?
HTC funny enough suggested a factory reset to solve this and if that doesnt work(like there is a chance that it will...) to just send it to service.
I plan to play dumb to service hopping to fix this under my warranty as the phone has absolutely no scratch or anything anywhere as I never even dropped it once.
Do you think they can somehow find out what happened of maybe they will fix it under warranty?
Thanks a lot for your time reading this and I d love to have your opinions
Any photo?
Perhaps some alcohol got stuck between the lcd and glass...

Looks like overheating damage by a component beneath the screen, possibly something reacting to/affected by the alcohol.

When you say beneath the screen do you mean beneath the LCD as well or just beneath the glass?
I am just thinking that if its beneath the LCD it would probably not show plus the phone would have some kind of functional problem(it works just fine) wouldnt it?
Beneath the screen assembly. It looks like (possibly) some component or board has caused damage to or affected the digitizer, as your actual display seems ok.

So the service corrective action will be a screen assembly replacement or you think that something more will be needed?
Also if the digitizer was damaged wouldnt the phone use be affected?Cause the device has not been affected in anyway.
Everything works like it used to before this damage.
Send it of for repair, youll have to pay of course, how much tdo you like your phone?, that's the question.

I like my HOX very much otherwise why would I pay 428 euro to buy it?
Of course what makes the HOX stand out of the samrtphone crowd is the amazing display so of course I want it fixed.
I will try to cheat saying I know nothing about it(the phone doesnt even has a scratch) hoping waranty to cover this but if this doesnt work I ll have to pay 196 euro for screen replacement.
Although appart from that mark nothing else is affected I am worried that perhaps a screen replacement might not be enough if the digitizer is affected by something beneath it.
Do you think that a screen replacement will be enough to solve this problem?
HTC will give you the digitizer and LCD, especially if you end up paying, which will then get you a new bezel and unibody all still tapped up in protective coat, I've had it done for my phone, 160gbp.I even think you get the Onex+ version screen, gorilla glass 2.Could be wrong

Nope.
TLDR: crap display glass.
Story
Once got it.
Then I broke the display glass
Replaced with one from another phone of same size.
Now I don't.
Workaround: When ghost touch happens, make phone sleep then unlock. It should go away.
It usually happened on my case because my finger is oily/wet ~ Try clean your hand and screen?

Frankly, idk. I'm not familiar with such things.
Ghost touches only happened to me after I cracked the glass. Then it happened like every 10mins of usage.
(and that one day I dropped my phone and render the touches at the cracks impossible, I have to replace the glass, and somehow *ghost touches disappear 100%)
Also my friend, G532G/DS, does not experience this. He keeps his phone well anyway.
Replace glass and/or keep it uncracked maybe? Sorry cannot help thoroughly.

Thank you for your response, replacing the glass protector seems to be my best choice, but gonna have to wait since have plenty of stuff to do, oh and also my brother have the same phone as me and we have the same symptoms though mine was worse, maybe the glass wasn't original after all...
Anyway back to the question at hand, does removing the glass protector solve the ghost touch? I don't mind going without protector for a while if this ghost touch gone for good
