Do not buy the ballistic maxx case!!! - Galaxy S III Accessories

Ok so i just bought the ballistic maxx case from the at&t store for $50. I walk out to my car to put it on and quickly find out the case is a piece of $h!t. I dont know where to start but ill try. 1st its nothin lime the ballistic HC case i owned for other phones and absolutely loved. All it is is a ballstic sg case with this redicilous removable screen protector. Itd a hard plastic piece that you put on the phone after you slide the rubber gel on the phone. The plastic is hard to put on. I can see eventually scratching the phone trying to do this snd when you do get it on its lose as hell. It sits off the phone so far theres a gap in between it and the screen. When you press it it clicks against phone. The lip on the case is so big you have to curl your thumb to hit home screen. And ballistic has the balls to charge $50 for that piece of crap. This is one of the worst cases i have ever seen. I immediately took it back and got my refund. If you need a rugged case wait for the defender. That case is junk. If you dropped it in water the water would poor right through the cheap screen protector. Also theres no protection for camera. I took a few pics before returning.

I checked it out at a AT&T as well and I have to agree...I thought it was garbage.

I dont understand what it is there trying to do. There HC cases were very good cases. Fit both my evos very good. Ballistics only downfall to me was customer service and they were normally late to the game. This case is just an embarassment to ballisctic. Very cheap not well cut and just dosent go well with the phone

I hate bulky cases on slim phones anyway.

I got the case and I don't see why you guys are giving it such a bad rap. I bought it for when I go over to the desert for the extra protection and it should work just fine. I actually liked the look and feel better than other otterbox cases. Personal preference I guess.

I have the normal Ballistic SG coming from amazon tuesday or wednesday so I'm hoping it winds up being a nice case. if not ill probably check out the trident ageis or casemate tough

Thats too bad, it looks pretty cool

The main thing is that whole removable screen protector. That wws just a dumb idea

I had the same issue! It would bubble up after installing the screen protector. The case is JUNK. That is a fact.

No disrespect meant at all....but I completely disagree with the OP. I have this case and have grown to really like it. OP mentioned the screen protector having a gap between it and screen....it does not if installed correctly. Instructions clearly state to place screen protecter on phone BEFORE applying gel case. There is a lip around the screen prot/gel case that locks it into place (which also greatly aids in keeping water out....not saying go drop it in the washer and walk away but you get what I mean). then the polycarb shell fits perfectly....it's all a tight fit and imo looks good. i added pics of mine installed in another thread(can't remember where at the moment). Anyway, I wrote this reply to let people know it's not a bad case....actually had an otterbox defender on my previous phone and it became stretched out and ugly as hell. this case won't do that bc of the outter poly carb shell and how the gel shell is locked on the screen protector. Just saying don't dismiss this case on one or two bad reviews. It's a great case if installed correctly. I even ordered the Ballistic SG in a different color combo to switch things up since i already have the screen protector and holster. I would NOT have ordered a second if it was crap!!

You also said in that thread that your not using the screen protector. I would imagine its bc of the lack of clarity or something else? Why pay $50 for a rugged case if you dont have the built in screen protector? They need to bring back the HC series. And when the defender is released youll see how making a 3 layer rugged case look smooth and fluid isnt that hard

You are correct. When I posted that I wasn't using the sp. I liked it then. Now I have it on and like other just the same. Its still very responsive and clear. NO gap between screen and sp at all. I have used an ob defender....smooth and fluid are not words I would use to describe it. I liked it bc I could bounce it off of cement with no ill effects but it was hello ugly imo. To r each his own I guess. Just wanted everyone to see how the sgmaxx preformed when installed correctly.

In your pictures it dose look like a nice fit. I tryd puttin the screen protector on before putting silicone on and after and it just was hidious. Also watchin the video review on youtube people really didnt have anything good to say. I just like the HC case and tje Defender because it gives you the feeling the phone is sealed tight and well protected. Ballstic sg maxx to me isnt really any different then a seidio rugged combo case. Layer after layer but no real screen protection

Bought a clone from ebay. $5. Hasn't arrived yet. I still think the Kraken will be the one to beat.

I have a commuter now and i really like this case. I normally hlget defenders but must admit after a while between the dirt that gets under the screen protector and stuff it gets annoying. I have the visor screen protector now and really like the slim case.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

The case isn't horrible but it is (at least for me) difficult to hit the buttons at the bottom of the screen. The removable protector is not a "bad" idea but if they had a better fitting screen protector I think it would be better for us users. Having the option to replace it is nice but you don't have the option to have the screen face out while in the holster. I saw that seidio has the surface case so I might return this case and buy that. I really wish they would make a waterproof otterbox case which might happen because FINALLY Samsung has a device that is the same shape for all the carriers!
Usually with the Otterbox cases I pop out the built in protector and put one on the screen directly. I had an iPhone 4 that got chips in the glass because of little particles getting in between the glass and the built in screen protector.

I have the same case and I like it. It was not too difficult to put on for me. As for the screen protector, I also have it off and like that it is not like the Otterbox. Why do that on a $50 case? Its the same reason I rip the display cover off the Otterbox Defender series. Because I don't like them. If I ever start scratching my display maybe I will install the removable display cover since it can go on and off. But I get these cases not for the screen protector but for those rare times I drop my device. And for that I am fine with it.

[Q] (Q) What case do you prefer?

I prefer the ballistic case hc solved the oil slick effect using the screen protector they give you. I was wondering what a lot of you folks prefer using I don't mind a slightly bulky case fits great in my hand anyways thanks.
Ballistic by far. I use the optional case at work and drop it down to the inside case for everything else. I love that the holster works either way.
My wife is still happy with the Trident Cyclops.
Both of our Seidio Rugged case's fell apart a long time ago.

Count me in for the ballistic. I'm in construction and I put it through the ringer. The phone doesn't have a scratch on it. I use the outer rubber sleeve at work then take it off for everyday use.

How did you mess the screen protector up if you got finger prints on it you can wash it down with glass cleaner or water and put it back on put it on wet and use the your ID or a card to smooth out air bubbles. If you really messed it up id check out ebay man you can probably find a screen protector that work like a champ pre cut. Or go by a zagg screen protector it should work for you i find the bottom part cut out on the stock ballastic screen protector annoying cause everytime you press a key down there it kinda sticks lol tho i have gotten use to it.
I gotta throw a vote in for Seidio Innocase Surface II. Not bulky at all. Leaves all buttons very easy to push. Compatible with their kicka$$ Innocase Car kit (cradle style holder - NOT a cheesy universal fit one). Will it hold up to being dropped from a 3rd story window? Unlikely. Can you throw your phone through a wall with this one? Doubt it. But if you're doing stuff like that with your phone (such silliness that requires a Superman-esq force field) - you really need to rethink having a $500 phone.

I do alot of work in a shop and always leaning over a car and under cars plus anything outdoors mending fences and such kinda need the bulk too keep oil and grease and when your phone might get caught on something and yanked from your side its a good thing to have to keep your screen from getting the snot kicked outta it great for keep dust out. Ive seen the case your talking about there a good brand. Really depends on what you need and suit of taste. Ballistic case is rugged great for not in the office sort of jobs and lifestyle.

Trident Aegis Case - Pics and Brief Comments

Received my Trident Aegis case today. Went with the bright green (which I so far prefer to the darker green which they previously used, I had a Cyclops case in this color on my HTC Glacier.)
One gripe is, so far, the open space surrounding the camera on the back of the case. This is an odd decision. Not a big deal to me, though; but still worth mentioning.
The biggest gripe, though, is that the phone is not at all easy to actually get into the case. I'm not saying that it doesn't fit. The problem is that you first place the phone into the colored, gel surrounding piece. You then have to fit these piece (and its protruding buttons) into the very hard and rigid black/grey plastic piece. It's kind of hard to do this since the gel-covered buttons have to fit into the holes on the device, and I ended up hitting the power button over and over again, and botting into recovery because one of the volume rockers was held down.
My Cyclops case, for the Glacier, was designed in the opposite way. The phone first fit into two hard pieces (a front and back piece, basically), and then a black rubber surrounding piece went around the plastic itself. This was really easy to take the phone out of and place it back within.
I know people will ask...I'd say the phone doesn't add too much in the way of size to the already very large S-II, but the only comparison I have is the D30. I do not have the Incipio or Seideio cases to compare.
My aegis case for my vibrant was the same. Its how they all are in terms of getting it on. Waiting for mine to get for the sgs2

my main concern is how well it protects but a close second on how hard it is to get out of the pocket. if im going to spend to cash to get something that would work well i want it to be what i want. any opinions?
So overall how do you feel about the case?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I'd say pocket fitment is mostly contingent upon the pocket. I have been putting the SII + Trident case in the front pocket of shirts and it only sticks out a small bit. It fits in my jeans pockets, but I wear my jeans a bit baggy. It won't fit in the pockets of my dressier slacks. So, I find it easy to get out of most pockets. My Glacier + Trident was actually probably a bit more difficult due to the ribbed silicone surround. The case for the S II doesn't have much to snag on. Keep in mind though, that the Glacier + Case was a lot thicker, front screen to back battery cover, than the S II is. This definitely had something to do with it as well.
Overall I am pleased with the case. I like the color options, shape, and structural design of the case. While I did find the previous "Cyclops" style case that I had for my Glacier to be easier to take off and on, this new case seems, at least at first glance, to provide equal or better protection while also being easier to fit in pockets.
One footnote: I'm using this case along with a Zagg wet application invisible shield and I'm not having any issues with the corners peeling.
What did you pay? Looks sick.

Same question I had, it says on product page that it includes a "Re-Applicable Screen Protector".
BTW, coupon code "holiday2011" gives you a nice $7 off!
does the screen protector look to be of good quality?
I also noticed that the plastic doesn't hold/secure the rubber on the bottom of the phone, is it easy for the bottom corners to come off say when you're putting it in or pulling it out of your pockets?
Thanks!

The screen protector does look cheap. I'm not using it so I didn't really pay much attention to it. The hard case does not wrap around the bottom, so it is just the gel casing. But I haven't had any issues with the case coming off when putting the phone in my pocket

I paid $22 with free shipping using the promo code holiday2011.
And yes, I got it from the tridenteer site.
i just ordered one... ill compare and take pictures comparing it to my incipio silicrylic case when i get the trident
I put the screen protector on. Used a wet install. Looks great so far. Smooth feel and very clear. It is dark outside right now, so I will report back tomorrow during the day. Looks really good in the house. Just a few air bubbles settling. I can tell they will go away though.
Screen protector is great. Really clear in light and dark. I'm sure there's better quality out there but for free its great. Also I have the green case. Get compliments like crazy about this case. Very high quality and looks pretty sick. Great protection. Great looks. Great case.
FYI the Incipio case has the slight gap around the camera as well.
The only issue I have seen, been using the case about a week, is the flap that covers the charging port doesn't want to stay closed. It doesn't hang down enough to cause problems really but isn't a tight fit and would def let dust in. Other than this small issue the case works great.

To Case or Not To Case...

So I got a regular rubber case with my Nexus (assuming it would add the least amount of thickness) and I always use cases with my phones but I'm noticing that it really increases the thickness and feel of the phone, which I dislike.
How many of you are and aren't using cases and what is your reasoning for each?
Should I risk not using a case or should I just suck it up?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm not using a case, and my only reasoning is that I haven't found one I like yet. This thing has flown out of my hands inadvertently so many times, I will probably be getting the sylicrilic from VZW just to have something on it until I find what I'm looking for. If I can ever figure out what that is.
I just ordered the Diztronic TPU that everyone is talking about. Hopefully I'll like that one better than the one that I got from Verizon earlier today...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
No case for me yet. I also haven't found one I like. I'm really attracted to the nekkid look though.
I'm generally a nekkid guy. Dropped my precious today and the plastic back is VERY susceptible to scratches. Reconsidering my no case choice but love this phone as is.

I use a case but...
A scratch on the body won't bother me as much as a scratch on the glass, so I would definitely use a SP if nothing else, but that's just me.
But I want mine in pristine condition for when I sell it and get my Galaxy Note II
I'm definitely getting a case. I never did mind a bulky phone ( I used to have a n900 with an otterbox on.. That thing was a tank, in both size and durability)
Got a case.
This phone with such a large glass and slender body to go along with it feels like it would fall apart if I ever dropped it. Maybe it isn't so but handling something this expensive/large/slender needs some protection for me to freely use it with peace of mind.
I'm using a temporary Case-Mate Barely There case along with no screen protector right now and I'm very antsy when handling my phone. So much so that it's a hassle.
Got the Diztronic case too and will be using Ghost Armor when they finally have the product line.
I had my wife buy the phone AND an Otterbox when she went to vzw... I have had OBs on all my phones and will keep doing so. Sure you can get it cheeper online but I pulled the phone out of the box put the 4g card on then put it in th OB!!!! And that is where it will stay!!!
I don't care about maintaining the cheap plastic backplate much to justify for a case, but I got myself a Silicone case from Verizon anyway because I don't want to scratch the camera lense when laying the phone on the table.
Diztronic rocks. I have a bse full body shield on and the case fits with that too. Scratch proof and protected. Love it

heres one thing i don't get from you guys that go naked. what about the effin camera in the back!? you realize every time you place it on a surface you're landing it flat on the plastic of the camera?
I never wanted to go no case but since my Desire, I've preferred the pouches just because it doesn't add to the size of the phone, and then you don't have to worry about anything hitting it. But I think this phone is just too large to use a pouch with. I bought a Nokia-brand pouch that fits my Nexus, but it hangs out the top by half a centimetre. Not a problem because it's not loose in the case itself, but it's still not the best situation.
One of the main reasons why I prefer the pouches is because then I don't have to worry about a screen protector, but I've already got a nick on my Nexus' glass, so I'll probably wear an SP and a case all the time.

good choice. i expect this case to b great because their silicon cases are the best to me. they just stretch after awhile. like any other silicone. but that case isn't rubber. btw, Rearth reached out to me and let me know the case fits both GSM and LTE models.
I dropped my phone within 24 hours of getting it. It left 2 quite big marks on the body. The plastic body is pretty soft and can be easily damaged.
I now have a replacement and put in case striaght away. But it does feel so much slimmer and nicer without a case
do you find excessive dust with an otterbox? seems like my G-nex is totally prone to dust. otherwise i love the case, makes the phone a little easier actually for me to hold without getting the feeling like it might just slip out of my hand.

The seidio obex ( life proof case ) not as good people make it out to be... my friend has had three of them. And had to replace his phone twice because of that seidio. Btw the seidio not good up to 6 ft. Only about 4 ft any deeper it starts leaking because of the pressure. Imo id take the otter box hands down all models to commuter defender armor case
Also have you checked ebay or amazon for cheaper prices ?

I think it's a reasonable price when you take into consideration that the Seidio''s Obex case is priced at $80. I'm sure Lifeproof will have theirs priced in the same ballpark. I'm really looking into buying a waterproof case. If Lifeproof doesn't at least post a picture of their case up soon I'll be buying Otterbox when it's released. Otterbox has proven itself time and time again and their customer service is second to none.
Seems fair, when the LifeProof first came out for the Iphone it was 90..if LifeProof keeps taking their time I'll go with the otterbox, have a defender and love it..

Seems fair. But no way would I pay 100 bux for a case. Just my personal opinion. Hell the most ive spent is 30 for a case and that would be max for me. But I guess that case does pay off in the long run

OtterBox make very good cases. Had one for every phone I had. This ones is expensive but I will trust them if to need so extreme protection.
$100 is alot but what bother me is the timing, They been teasing us for like a month now and they announce it yesterday thinking that it will go on-sale today for next week but no, we have to wait another 3 months. By that time we will be debating on should we get the Galaxy S4

Yeah but the defender doesn't cost $100. The other thing I can't wait to find out is if they used the same Defender-type screen on the armor. The defenders screen protector is IMO basically useless, I don't know how any of you can use it. I don't know if it's due to the type of screen the s3 uses but the defender for iphone is pretty nice, the screen protector doesn't degrade the screen quality much if at all. If any of you have never seen the s3 inside a defender, the screen protector makes nice little star bursts all over your entire screen, it's terrible!

Star bursts? In have a defender but what exactly do you mean by star burst?

I guess it's the name they charge you for. Even with the MSRP being $100, it'll sell for less.

Actually I hope they use the same material to make the screen protector as the defender, I bought the seidio waterproof and the screen protector was horrible, I couldn't even use swype , and in the defender, it might look bad but at least it doesn't affect the touch sensibility.

My defender made the screen very pixelated, kind of like looking through wet glass or something. You can't tell me you don't notice a major difference in screen quality??

Just saw a YouTube video where an otterbox ces rep said it wouldn't be released until 30 after the iPhone case is released. So it looks like late March.

Its a rainbow effect. Its from the plastic of the screen protector getting too much grease marks on it. I popped mine out because of that. Sucks though too because the case gets loose without the protector in.
The only material that's equal in both preserving look and sensitivity of the touchscreen is plexiglass. Ivyskin case company in new jersey uses it with their iPhone cases. Plexiglass is easy to shatter though unless its thicker.

These cases go for a fraction of their MSRP on Amazon. You can find the Defender for $20 instead of $50.

The defenders problem isn't the oils from your fingers, without touching it the screen still looks awful. As for materials, have you ever used a lifeproof case? The screen still looks great and sensitivity isn't affected at all. I don't know what they make it out of but I'm pretty sure it isn't plexiglass.

I have defender - if you wipe your phone, and your galaxy's screen with a rag (that comes with sun glasses). And the you wipe protective screen from inside and outside (but really good, to eliminate all microscopic dust particles - it will stay like this. Sure you better not to throw your phone in dusty places - will be ok.
And it's protective screen, not just a plastic. If you need something for beauty - buy thin cases and be happy If you love running at the morning/mountain biking/ and other sport/action - you will be happy with that case. And it's look great.
But what really annoying for me it's a power button is hardly pressed when in case. I have to push the button a little harder.
And at all - i love my case, purchased at eBay i got it for 30$ with delivery in 1 week (from Hong Kong, straight from the factory )
Just check eBay for Galaxy S3 Armor Series, may be there will be cheaper deal. I know some waterproof case, that cost a lot more (can't remember the brand).
But who d f need waterproof case? Seriously. I can swim without phone, it's ok

look at the seidio convert case.
It gives you 2 cases in one. I've had mine for a while now and like it a lot.
The only down side is the lack of a built in screen cover.
The stick on cover is not very good....imho
But the overall case is exceptional.
I hate screen covers anyway, as I prefer the feel of glass....g
Well I wanted one with a built in screen protector but ill check out tht case too

I would suggest a outter box defender series its what I use. Haven't notice a loss of any of the features. One thing is it wont fit in all pockets.there also not bad price either. I've been very happy with my outter box
I'd go with the defender, I have it and im quite pleased.

I have the Otterbox Commuter on my GALAXY Note II and feel that it is very well protected, the only thing is that the screen protector is self-adhesive instead of being built into the case itself like on the Defender series but I don't feel that it's necessarily a bad thing; some people don't really like the built-in screen protector on the Defender series as dust and dirt can sometimes get under it. With a self-adhesive screen protector separate from the case, you can swap out cases without a problem and dust won't accumulate under it.
In my opinion, any case that you consider should have a bit of a lip around the screen as it can help prevent the screen from coming into contact with an object if you accidentally drop it.
i have all otterbox cases..2 defenders and 2 commuters...the dust does get under the screen protector on the defender...i ripped out the screen protector on one defender and put an anti glare screen protector on my note 2 and put it in the defender and got the best of both worlds...good protection and no dust (so annoying)...i work in a warehouse so i keep it on the clip and couldnt be happier....the commuter is good if you still want to put it in your pocket and have overall good protection....try it u would be pleased...

I've got the Seidio Surface case and am ordering one of the safety glass screen protector for it.
I've owned many Otter box cases before and would not go back to them.
They are big and bulky and a pita to take off and put on IMHO. .
This phone is big enough already. ..don't want any additional bulk added to it. The Seidio protects it just as well and feels and looks better. .
