Does anyone dislike the Email on the SGIII as much as I do? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Or is it just me? Every email I open that has pictures or graphics I have to scroll to the bottom and click on "Load More Details".
I really like the email in the Nexus Roms or the CMxx Roms - they ask at the TOP if you want to show pictures and then if you want them to be shown all the time. That is what I would like to have. Any idea where/how one could accomplish this?
I have tried virtually all of the email clients in the Play Store and really do not care for them fro one reason or another. I even have $16-17 invested in a few of them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ted

I purposely use Gmail for everything. Just goes hand in hand with android. I actually freeze email and exchange apk.
Have you tried enhanced email from market?
Sent front my SGS3 Epic 4GLTE Touch

If you use Gmail, you can just press "show pictures" at the top if it doesn't show them by default. It will remember your preference for that person.
Gmail also has a better theme and is generally better than than most, if not all, email clients.
If you don't use a google account for email, I believe you can set google up so it receives email from a certain address and you can send outgoing email from that address.

My biggest complaint is that Samsung put all of the controls (reply, forward, etc) at the top of the screen which makes one hand operation a challenge. I have big hands and still have trouble reaching the controls. I replaced Samsung email/exchange with the stock ICS versions on my E4GT for the same reason. I might do the same on this one as soon as I flash a custom ROM.

It's sad that it's as bad as it is, since the stock app for the SGS2 was so nice.

also, it doesn't play well with Office 365

That's the issue I'm having with the stock app too. Loading details for pics and graphics is crazy. Their should a option to autoload or the link to load should be at the top of the email

On all of my android phones I was never a fan of the stock email app when getting my work email. I then found out of about Touchdown. Its a great app to get exchange emails on.
I do like using the gmail app though.

I really prefer the gmail app. You can forward most other email address to your google account. I know I did that with my work email so I could get them on my phone while I was in the field.

Forward with files checked, show images checked, auto download attach on wifi checked, size to recieve all, (thats an exchange account my gmail account is set to 100 kb) those are the only important settings if your using a pop3 account that might be why your having an issue. Even my gmail is set to imap.

i use the inverted gmail app

Gmail is really good especially since its push email to our phones but it lacks the ability to embed images which i have to use the stock email app for work account anyways and id rather be able to embed images than have push. Thats just my preference.

Exchange Email Client

Thinking about getting the phone - but just have one question as this has been holding me back for a while now from getting an Android phone.
Could anyone confirm if folders and sub folders for TouchWiz email Exchange client are all on one level or have a tiered structure as per Outlook ie:
Folder 1
¦
------ Sub Folder 1
Thanks.
That woul be a very important information for me too!
Looking forward to detailed answers!
TIA
+1
Thanks!
I can't confirm the folder structure but can confirm that Activesync works.
Thanks!
Could you confirm some other things, too?
- bi-directional contacts sync
- bi-directional calendar sync
- bi-directional sync of recurring appointments
- html mails
- confirming appointments
Hmmm. Folder structure depends on the view you look at it in. It shows all my Exchange folders in a list in the main view (there's a quick dropdown to change folder) but in folder view, it shows in hierarchy.
Bi-directional contacts and calendar have been working since the original SGS and all synced to my phone fine. Not sure about recurring appointments but it syncs all of mine from Exchange to the phone fine. HTML mail works fine too (would be a bit ****ed up if it didn't!). Never tried confirming appointments so I can't say anything about that.

Thanks for the information. That's interesting because the default Android email client on 2.3.3 does not seem to include an option for folder viewing hierarchical folders...
I'm on my first full day so can report on this a bit now.
I'm trying out the stock client with an ES 2010 server. Some nice surprises:
- Full folder structure accessible
- Server search
- Task sync (!)
- Decent interface (don't love the dark background for the email list...)
- Syncs faster than my Atrix running Froyo
- Nice little widget icon showing unread emails
- it's got a crazy 2-pane inbox view w/preview when in landscape mode (think tablet view or desktop Outlook) - this is really cool!
- Out of office setting
On the downside, the email list widget sucks - it doesn't scroll and only shows 3 most recent (not even unread) emails so that's a bit of a disappointment. Also the calendar widgets are nice but they're too large and not resizable. Thankfully Calwidget works fine.
I'm going to try to live with it. I have a paid TD license and I had gotten used to their widgets on my Atrix, but I suspect stock is more battery friendly.
Thanks for the info. Would you mind posting some screenshots of the email client. I used Froyo, and I can't even do a search on my emails. I ended up using TD as well. Do we have search now? Is there pinch to zoom on emails? If not, can we resize font size? and How? sorry too many questions.
Thanks in advance.
I use sgs2 as my primary business phone., exchange 2010 support is the best ever, on windows mobile or android.

Here you go...I've been using it for a few days now and NO need to employ TD which is saying a lot for a native Exchange client! The only thing missing is Notes sync which I can live without (don't change notes that often and can just drag them into Evernote).
The client actually blows me away...to answer your question, we have search as you'll see in the screenshots, as well as pinch to zoom, font resizing in both the Inbox view as well as the message body. Let me know if you have any other q's.

No options there for the "calendar folders" so I don't think so. Then again, I don't have any sub-folders so I can't be 100% sure.

Actually I do not work with sub-folders in calendars, but I have several calendars in Outlook under the main-folder, that are synced to exchange.
Can you try to add a new calendar in outlook and see if you can sync that second calendar to the phone via exchange?

[Q] Alternative to Gmail app

Is there a good alternative to the Gmail app? I need support for threaded view, and must be able to view messages when offline.
I have my personal Gmail account synced to the Gmail app, but I also want to see my company email (which uses Gmail as a back end) in an app. Don't want to mix business with private emails though.
At the moment I access company mail through the browser interface which isn't optimal.
Thanks!

Doesn't support threaded view.
U can use the default exchange mail app. Just setup as IMAP account.
Have tried a lot of different mail clients, but ended up using K9.
K9 do not have the most sexy GUI and I hate the icon even I know why devs keep on to it ... but honestly ... come on a head of a robot dog LOL
It have some smal bugs, but all together the best mail client I have tried until now.
I actually likes it so much that I contributed with a Danish translation.
BTW its open source and its possible to download latest version from http://code.google.com for free
Best mail client is Maildroid:

Thanks, have tried it and it's not bad. The threaded view is a bit cumbersome though, it groups messages correctly, but you need to exit each message to view the next instead of just scrolling down. Will keep it though.
Wish I could duplicate the Gmail app actually, or even better port the Mail app from iOS.

Why don you use default samsung email? It can be set as pop3 or imap. Can create multiple account on it.
Why don't you use Gmail?
If you have two Gmail accounts just add them both to your phone. Your mail won't mix, you'll just have to select the account you'll use in the upper left corner.
Or you can use the default Samsung app like anlimdy22 suggested.

Honestly, couldn't get that to work - just forced closed time and time again, and when it did work it couldn't verify the settings (the very same ones that K-9, Maildroid and the Gmail app could). Better apps are usually available externally

Turn off word suggestion in Swype, it will help you to edit mail in default email app.
On the subject, the stock GMail app is the worst client I've ever seen. No multi touch is a PITA. The stock email app is good, still not the very best out there. Tried almost all the clients, Maildroid and all, yet to find one which suits my need, K9 was good, maybe I've to try it again.
Its really unbelievable that the client in iOS I used 3 years back was way better than all of these in Android!!!

Actually, I'd say the iOS Mail app is still better - where better, for me, means easier to use. Swipe-to-delete alone makes it a winner.
Yes, that's correct. Simplicity of using is way beyond everything.

Email alerts on my phone not automatically show images

I really need to find an answer or a solution to this.
So I have a security camera setup at my store and house... The DVR Recorder is set up to email alerts to me directly when it detects motion... if the DVR senses motion, I get 3 snap shots sent to me thru email directly to my phone (or whatever email address). The images are small CIF (240x320) resolution shots spaced 2 seconds apart - so 3 pics total.
OK: So when I had an iPhone, and I received an alert email - I would SEE the 3 attached photo's automatically when clicking the email message.
Now I'm using GS3 phone, and I get the email but the pictures are 3 separate attachments and I have to manually click on them to download and display - each one individually. VERY ANNOYING.
I've tried the default Gmail app, and Enhanced Email... Same result with both email apps. I'd like to get the email to automatically show the images - which are really small, and I don't understand why I need to manually download them to see them............
Anyone have any suggestions????????

Yeah of course. I think the issue is these are sent as ATTACHMENTS, not as embedded HTML images. What I need is an email app that will auto-download attachments, either all or maybe if I can say download attachments under a certain file size.
Have you tried some of the apps available at the store? Like K-9 or MailDroid. I haven't used em so cant say which might do what you need.
Something else you could try is grabbing the email app from another Samsung phone like the Note, or see if the plain Android stock email app could work.
Sorry I dont have a direct answer for you, but though id at least throw out some ideas.

[Q] Mimicry 1.5.0 - Mail Setup?

Why cant I find many normal mail options and settings in this rom?
I cant move mails between folders
I cant choose the age of the downloaded mails and how long to keep them, after a couple weeks it deletes them even if I mark them as favourites!
I cant reply from the Recycle bin and I cant move those mails back to Inbox.
Is there any fix to this, or is just the mail app that sucks?

I found the Mail app to be a terrible drain on resources. I now route all my work mail through Gmail - it works significantly faster, removes the extra app from running and has the advantage of making all my work email nicely searchable. Set it up right and you can send from Gmail as another account too.
Additionally, I've shunted all my Facebook and Google+ notifications through Gmail and use Greenify to ensure the fb and G+ apps don't run in the background; the result has been a massive increase in performance, while still giving me access to the apps when I want them.
I dont have the Gmail app in Mimicry's rom, and I dont have my mail in Gmail. I like the mail app installed but is missing a million options and settings, Im just trying to find out if they are somewhere else or if there is a way to fix it. If there isnt I would also like to know if there is any other nice mail app available.

Thats the one Im trying right now. Is still missing the options to choose the age of downloaded mails, recover mails from trash folder and moving mails between folders but at least doesnt delete the old ones without asking and I can reply mails in the trash folder. It works well and fast and thanks to Nova I could change the horrible icon for the simple envelope one.

Exchange Mail App alternative?

All,
The default LG G3 Mail app is kinda meh....I hate the fact it does not allow me to view 'ALL EMAILS' under one, instead I have to manually toggle through my sub folders. I came from HTC One M7 and their mail app was the best I've used.
Can anyone recommend me other alternative that is not Touchdown? I hate the old looking UI of Touchdown.
I'm trying Nine Mail App now...so far so good? Any others?
Thanks!

I like AquaMail, but agree Cloudmagic is good (just hated the UI on Cloudmagic myself - specifically that it felt like I was wasting my huge screen because the app elements were huge themselves).
Take a look at Nine. I use it and like it a lot for my work's exchange email account

Yes, I'm currently using Nine now and its good. I wanted to see what other options are there. CloudMagic looks great, but don't like the fact they store our info/emails in their cloud.

If you can get the stock KitKat email app to work with Exchange it should be a great option. Much of the same interface and goodness as Gmail, threaded emails, etc, etc. My problem is that I have now tried two phones and at least 5 custom ROMs (on my HTC One X) and I have never been able to get the stock KitKat app to work with Exchange. I have tried CleanROM, Viper, Paranoid, Cyanogen, ASOP, as soon as the OS is 4.4 or newer Exchange simply does not work. Things work with the 4.3 Email.apk and Exchange2.apk but that does not have threading. Yes, I have tried all sorts of posted workarounds, Exchange2Google.apk from various sources, etc, no luck. There are numerous threads out there from people claiming to have this problem. Must be a Google screwup because the Samsung, HTC, and LG OEM apps have absolutely no issues with Exchange under KitKat.
If anyone knows of a workaround please PM me or just respond to this thread.

Just suggesting,
I've had a lot of headaches trying to make my exchange work on android.
Auto settings never worked for me, i had to manually type the server user password and such.
My problem was that i was not typing the domain before username.
Im pointing this out because LG email app has a domain field and stock email app doesnt.
So what I do is I fill domain\[email protected] in username field on stock email app, and i use pod51015.outlook.com on server field. And it works like that. Server might be different for you.

Yeah, I have seen numerous people suggest that as a workaround but it has never worked for me. Perhaps the email server is not correct, I need to go talk to the IT guys. The annoying part is that the phone vendor email app always successfully auto-configures. It seems that everyone except Google has figured out how to do this correctly.

Yeah, IT people here gave me the server info. You should try entering manually next.

Well, I finally figured out how to make the stock kitkat 4.4 email app work. You can first let something like the oem email all run, then go look at the settings a day then manually reproduce them in the kitkat app. In my case I needed to specify the server as webmail.company.com and select the "all certificates" option.
However, it appears that I was wrong in my claim that the stock kitkat email apk threads. That is not the case.
Nine actually looks quite good, and just when I was wondering how they can afford to give away such a sophisticated polished app I noticed that there is a silent 7 day trial, after which it is pay to play. Seems to be worth the $10.
1st impression of Nine is very good. Paid for the $10 license less than 10 min after installing it.

It does look very good and the support is incredibly responsive. There is a bit of mystery Engrish in the menu items and some of the settings and UI are far from logical but that is a small price to pay for the functionality.
Do any of these apps integrate exchange emails into appointments on your regular calendar automatically?
Also I'm looking for one that doesn't make me put a ridiculous password on my phone.

Nine allows for this. Exchange and appointments into regular calendar. You are given the choice of applying security at the app level instead of the device level. So you only have to enter PIN when opening the app...not when unlocking the device.
There is an app called Enhanced Email that allows you to bypass security completely.

There are also a number of modules for Xposed that let you do the same at the OS level. The one I like best is called Lockscreen Bypass
I use Mailwise and it works great!
