Wallpaper help - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

I'm trying to get this shot of the headphones to be shown entirely on the home screen of my Nexus 7 but I can't seem to format it properly. What I did first was shrink the width to 720 (with the height changing proportionally) and then I pasted it into a black background of a 720x1280. I loaded it onto my tablet and I only get the headphone partially. I then took the original image and increased the canvas width and filled in with black. I pretty much get the same cropped portion of the headphone. Can anyone help me in what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Tweaked the image a little as it looked very crooked and "wrong" to my eyes, but I attacked two versions, one that is full width and one that is single screen width. Also I use a free app called "Wallpaper Set Save" to set the wallpaper, as it makes it fit and means you dont have to do that "crop" shenanigans.

Thanks - but those images still didn't quite do what I was hoping for. I'm looking to have the headphones only on the main home screen. I thought adding black bars to the side would take care of that, but didn't seem to make much of a difference. I'll fool around with the app.

[Q] Wallpapers on cyanogen 6.1 or evo period.

Ok I have been looking everywhere and can't seem to find a app that will set the wallpaper as is without cropping or cutting the edges off. I know the best resolution is 960x800 but it still cuts off parts of the picture. I've tried wallpaper set and save and a host of other apps from market and various android freeware sites. None of them seem to set them right, any help would be highly appreciated. I have an HTC evo running cyanogen 6.1 stable and everything is so far so good and I want to thank this website because without it I was lost. This is my number 1 forum so I know ill get the answer, its out their please help me find it. Thanks in advance!!
flikie wallpapers hd is about the best ive seen at this. it still crops but i keeps most of the image quality
Only thing I can think of is to take the photo you want, make the actual photo whatever the screen resolution is (480x800 from what I've read) with black bars on the side to make the entire picture file 960x800. Then use launcher pro to freeze the background so it doesnt move when you swipe. Your picture should be centered.
When you select the image for a wallpaper, you see that little box in the center? Drag outwards on one of its edges.

Thank you all for the speedy replies, I see what your saying. I have my desktop set to have only one screen already, but I went and got launcherpro cause of its features. But yea I downloaded a few pictures before that were 480x800 and it had the black bars on the sides but when I set it, it cuts off the head and feet, 960x800 however does not, it only cuts just a little off the sides. I'm guessing now that the picture is to wide and I wanted to know if I could make a picture keep its height and change its width. I don't know maybe keep the height from the 960x800 setup and the width from the 480x800 setup if that's possible.
My friends, friend has his set up so that when he sets a wallpaper it gives him the option to set as is, to crop, and i think the other one was to cut it. I don't know if its a application or if its the firmware (like cyanogen i mean) he uses, I would ask but he lives very far a few cities over. I have been combing the internet for this app or whatever, and I'm fairly new to android phones, but I got a pretty good history with computers so that definitely helps. But this one seems to be a common problem with a somewhat easy fix. Any ideas?
Are you sure you didn't mix up the 2 sizes lol. 960x800, and not 800x960. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I've done that before using Photoshop.

stop photos set as wallpaper from stretching across all home screens

Ok so I have ADWLauncher and I've disabled wallpaper scrolling (I HATE WPS) and I can not find a simple method of using a photo as my desktop wallpaper that does not end up with the photo stretched across my home screens (I even killed all the extra home screens).
I've read all about the appropriate size for wallpapers (ex: 960x800) and re-sizing my image then expanding the canvas size, etc... but nothing seems to work. Anyone out there have any suggestions?
the only method i have gotten to work is resizing the picture and then expanding canvas. it can be a little tricky depending on how many screens youhave set. I personally only use 2 so i had the picture at (960x400) and then put it on a canvas of 960x800 this way when it stretched it was exactly right for 1 screen. doing this and turning off scrolling wall paper and it worked
Even when I remove all screens except the primary one it still "acts" as if there are more. What size should I use (for canvas) if I use 3 screens?
It should always be 960x800 regardless of the number of desktops. More desktops just scroll to the side less each swipe (under normal circumstances).
Download the app "wallpaper set and save "

Weird I downloaded this and it still does not show me the entire pic. Gonna reflash a fresh ROM to see.

Optimised Wallpapers

I have put together a collection of wallpapers that are optimised to work with the Galaxy Nexus resolution. I have tried to give some choice and they all look great on my Galaxy Nexus. I have added the original link in the description for those who would like a different crop.

For those wanting to create their own the images they need to be 1440x1280.
Did not see any existing thread for this. Let me know otherwise.
I was coming here specifically to post on this topic when I noticed your thread.
I don't think 1440x1280 is the optimal size. When you go to select an image as a wallpaper, the selection box is slightly larger than the two rectangles which presumably represent the area that is visible on screen.
With this in mind, it seems as if wallpapers optimised for the Galaxy Nexus should actually be 1440x1280 + some extra black space, so that the actual image squarely fits in the are provided.
Otherwise it would seem that you're taking a 1440x1280 image, cutting off the edges, and then stretching it back up to 1440x1280, resulting in a less clear image (which is a shame on such a gorgeous screen).
Just something I've been wondering about. Feel free to comment or correct me.
Thanks, this is great. Quick question, how would I go about changing the resolution of pictures I already have?
Sorry for my ignorance on this subject.

if your pictures are too small then you DON'T want to change them as they'll just get ruined. upscaling destroys digital images.
your best bet is to just find new wallpapers to use. Luckily for me i've always downloaded 1600x1400+ wallpapers so i'm good.
i am curious though, does the stock wallpaper picture still pixelate the images and ruin gradients? i know my nexus one does that and i downloaded quickpic to get around it. but i have noticed on my tablet wallpapers look good.
If you use something like quickpic it will select the whole image, the built in Gallery app will show you a guide however I find that it does use the whole image at the ratio.
If someone can suggest a better resolution I would appreciate it, otherwise this is the best I have found so far.
I don't have a Nexus (yet), but if someone with root could check the file /data/system/wallpaper_info.xml, there should be a line reading as follows:
<wp width="something" height="something" name="" />
Click to collapse
Which should give the actual expected resolution.

You can drag the edges of the box to make it bigger - there still seem to be corners left out but I was able to get the top / bottom / side edges of the selected area out to the edges of my image.
I made a couple of darkish fractals at 1440 x 1280, in an attempt to extend battery life without going entirely black.

Thanks! So that should mean it does include the 96px soft-button area (also meaning the lower 96px of the wallpaper will not be visible). As soon as VZW decides to launch the damn thing I'll give it some testing, but I'm pretty confident the 1440 x 1280 is correct.
Just thought I'd report back with my experiences.
I've been making some wallpapers and experimenting over the last few days, and I'm very confident that the correct wallpaper size is 1440x1184 ie. you have to remove the 96 pixels taken up by the soft buttons to get things to work nicely.
If you use this size wallpaper, the selection box will be completely filled, without leaving out any parts.
yeap

Someone may be able to assist me here, but my absolute most HATED part of Android is the wallpaper selector. I can never actually set a picture I want as wallpaper because of the poxy blue line crop/selector which refuses to actually ever take in the full image.
I've used photoshop to resize a photo to the dimensions for the screen and it's still too big for the photo selector. Am I missing something very elementary here??
**EDIT**
I just made an image which was 100 pixels high as an acid test and when i tried to set IT was wallpaper it was tiny and shrunk, but so was the selector box and I STILL couldn't select the whole image. What the heck am I doing wrong!??

Have you tried 1440 x 1184 as a size? Then if it doesn't select the whole thing first time try dragging the edges of the box.

I'd love to see some from these. I also wish for a NASA respository.
Okay, now that I actually HAVE a Nexus, I can say with certainty that 1440 x 1280 (not 1184) is the correct wallpaper resolution. 1440 x 1184 is not the same aspect ratio as the crop box; however, you can add 96 blank pixels along the bottom of a 1440 x 1184 image (making it 1440 x 1280) and it fills the crop box, and the bottom 96 pixels don't show on the home screen due to the software buttons.
Would post a preview pic, but I need to post more first, I guess

Different screen zoom/text size per screen?

Curious if there's a way to have different screen zoom and text sizes per screen. On the front.. obviously like it a little bigger. Opened, I like the screen zoom to small with a slightly smaller text size. Also the screen zoom changes some apps to tablet mode, not ideal for the small screen. Any ideas?
Wondering about this as well. I've yet to find anyway of doing this. At the moment, 'Medium' Zoom looks better for the outside screen but too big for the Inner. I've just set it to 'Small' as the best you can get for now. Any change in developer setting (to make even smaller) makes the outside screen practically unusable due to its tiny size.
yeah from what i understand, the text size setting is completely global which is unfortunate.
with their expensive team of "experts", you would wonder why this was such an oversight.
Iv noticed on small screen you can pinch to zoom which iv used a lot
Someone suggested on Reddit that you can use Tasker to create two different profile for open and closed state with separate dp… The downside is, it will have maybe half a sec delay when you open or close due to switching res...

Question Why would Samsung limit font size to be universal on front, and inside screen??

Am I missing something? I want a bigger font on outside and smaller on inside. I see no option for this. Wtf? Seems dumb.
I agree. I also want the font on the front keyboard to be bigger on the front screen. I haven't found a workaround.
Try using Bixby routines.

Yep. Or Tasker.
Yeah I'm with you on this one front fonts are way to small
I played around with the minimum width numbers in developer options and adjusted the numbers to where i like them from with in the inner screen. I've noticed that when you go in the minimum width settings from the front screen the numbers are different then when u go in from the inside screen and if you try and adjust them from the front outer screen they won't stick they just default to there original numbers ?
Just tested with Bixby Routine but if doesn't work well. It often doesn't change as it is actually configured which is annoying.
Samsung will probably get around to enabling it latter...
