external micro SD card? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Does the Samsung Galaxy S3 take more than one Micro SD card? I see some forum/youtube comments mentioning an internal as well as an external micro sd card, but I can't find an external slot on my phone!

Unfortunately it doesn't. The phone treats the internal 16 or 32 GB storage as "Internal SD Card", and microSD socket behind the rear cover as "External SD card".

Internal SD is the inbuilt non removable and the micro SD external is next to the sim card which you can remove.

You can connect a external SD card via a USB OTG cable.

the "external" slot is the one under the battery cover.
"internal" is not accessible by you, without taking the whole apart, as it is attached to the motherboard.

The external slot is just under the battery cover which allows you to put a microsdhc card, the internal sd is a soldered in memory chipset, and the android os will indicate this as internal sd.
you can also use the USB OTG for other memory cards, flashdisk or HDD.

SD card problems

I am having problems with my SD card. I used to have a mytouch, and I bought a Sandisk 4GB back then. When I got the S2 back in Decemeber 2011, all i did was format the micro card to work. The S2 shows that its there under Storage, but i have always have difficulties actually using it. You will see that it has some used into it. I can only reach it through USB connection and transfer file that way. However, whenever I use any programs which can be install under SD card, it will not do so.
As you will noticed below i have a problem call App 2 SD Pro, which it will only show both memories with my phone, Storage and USB, which is the same phone memory. By no means, its finding the Micro SD card. Can anyone tell me why is this? This phone is not rooted and i have only 2.3.6.
Thank you in advance.
If you look through your list of folders under /sdcard, your micro sd is the 'external_sd" folder.
Yes that is true. Is under External SD card. My question is, why are some programs, mostly all, having difficulties to find it? and can i have all for example game files, be saved onto my "external SD Card"?
What is the speed of your sd card?
class 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10?

How would i know that? all i can see on the card is, Sandisk 2 in circle, 4GB SDHC micro. Where else can i check? which class is best?
You have a class 2. It has been my experience that when you move an app to sd card, on this phone it uses the internal "USB" storage.
So what can i do to do the opposite? Meaning, using the actual SD card instead of the internal.

External vs Internal SD Card?

Ok its been a little bit since I've dealt with this system but how can I make clockwork mod recovery recognize files saved on my external micro sd card instead of the internal 16gb one? Where can I select the external micro sd card to be the primary sd card?

[Q] whats the different between external SD card and SD card.

I think you have it backwards! The SD Card on new phones, ie. Samsung GS3, refers to the built-in memory. If you insert a micro SD Card, it will be known as the "Ext SD Card".
Anyone, anyone....

But in wonder if you use the storage setting and tick the use internal memory the sd card and external will be swapped. I guess i'm based on that. So maybe i'm wrong. At least it is almost right

SD card = the built in memory from your phone, but some phone have only small amount of memory so you cannot install games/apps anymore because it's already full.
Ext SD Card = have a bigger amount of memory 8gb,16gb, 32gb, 64gb that means you can install more games/apps than internal.
So, if your phone internal is full, you can use your ext sd card as internal which is bigger and it's called "swap"

Menu > System Settings > Storage
SD card = listed as INTERNAL STORAGE. On our Wonder, this is 1.7GB in size.
External SD card = the microSD card you insert at the back of your phone. It's available in different sizes and classes. Under Storage, it is listed as SD CARD.
I hope this clears it up for you.
AFAIK
SD card= internal phone memory
ext SD card = sd card that you inserted
Just to avoid further confusion when it comes to terminology:
Memory is just like the RAM in your computer. It is where a program's commands are queued for use of the processor.
Storage is just like the hard disk in your computer. It is where the programs/apps are actually stored.
When you go to Menu > Manage Apps,
Memory can be seen only under 'Running' tab. In the case of CM9 Beta 1, it should amount to 352MB total size.
Internal Storage is under the 'Downloaded' and 'All' tab.
'On SD Card' shows you what's on your SD Card.
I hope this helps.

[Q] Swap SD Card with internal Storage

I am running low on storage on my S4 mini, and with CM11 that doesn't allow moving apps to the SD card things are getting worse.
Samsung has formatted the device is such a way that the internal storage is recognised as "sdcard0", I don't know why they did it and I don't care.
Is there a way to swap my internal storage with my sd card? I have a 32gb class 10 sd card and i think it is more than enough for use as internal storage.
Thanks

Lenovo P2 Upgrade SD card from 32 to 64 GB

My existing SD card is running out of capacity, so im trying to insert a 64Gb card into the phone. When trying to clone the this card in my laptop, i keep getting the message to format the card. Which obviously i don't want to do. The card works fine in the phone so i don't suspect a faulty card. If i plug the phone into the laptop the card is visible, and i can copy the files, and transfer them to my 64Gb card but then this is not usable on the phone. What is the procedure for upgrading the SD card in the Lenovo P2.
My observations lead me to believe that the formatting of the P2 is not compatible with windows 10.
any help much appreciated.
Regards
John M
Copy the files from the previous SD card to your computer by using the USB cable to connect the phone. Then do the same to copy to the new card.
It sounds like your SD card is formatted as internal memory rather than portable.
When you put in your new SD it will ask how you want to use it. Choose portable and copy your files over.
