sim unlock of AT&T in the middleaset - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

simple question, i have a friend in the US, he is about to get an AT&T contract, and he doesnt need a new phone, if i make him buy me a samsung galaxy s 3, would i be able to sim unlock it to work on networks in the middleast, like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Israel?
if yes, how can i do that?

Yes you can get an AT&T GS3 unlocked (Just unlocked mine today), If your friend is an existing member of AT&T and in good standing he just needs to ask for the unlock code. I just used the online chat support and told them I was traveling to Europe for a few months and needed my phone unlocked. They needed my IMEI and they gave me the unlock code. The whole process only took 10 min or so. Then I went to a T-Mobile store and ask to borrow a SIM so I could enter the code (You need to put in a non-AT&T SIM card for it to ask you for the unlock code)
Now the question is will the phone work for your network. For that you need to know if it uses the same network bands. Here are the bands that the AT&T GS3 supports: GSM Quad-band: 850/900/1800/1900MHz; UMTS Tri-band: 850/1900/2100MHz; LTE Dual-Band: Band 4/17
Is your networks use them then most likely it will work but the only way to know for sure is to find someone who has used an AT&T GS3 on your respective networks.

thanks a lot, that was very helpful, but my friend is not an existing member of AT&T, he will get a contract soon though, dont know if they will give it to him. any other way to get the unlock code if they would refuse to give it to him?

There are places that sell the unlock codes for a small fee (around $30 I think). I don't know how well they work as I have never used these services.

It is better than the Transformer Prime I had but still has some issues. The screen is really nice though. In the end mine is going back as I have the new Galaxy Note 10.1 coming tomorrow. The S-Pen is a killer feature for me, I'm a student and being able to take handwritten notes on it trumps the Transformer's superior resolution.
I don't know if it can replace a laptop as I never got the laptop dock for it.

[Q] Will this phone work on 3g in Europe & UK ?

I bought my SII a few days ago and am wondering if it will work in Europe.
Also, will t-mobile give me an unlock code? I've been with them for over a year.
I got an unlock code for mine and i have only been back with tmobile for 60 days. Just ask them in chat. It will work in Europe but I don't think it will be on hi speed network.

How quick did you get the code? I just called in and made the request. She said up to 14 days.
I think Europe 3g band is 2100 which the t-mobs SII supports. But I don't know if that means it will work.
Yes it will work on 3G in Europe... I've taken TMO phones to Spain several times and was rocking 3G on Vodafone the entire time.
if it has the frequency it will work
Awesome, thanks guys.
Tmobile just sent me the unlock code. Is there any way to enter it without another sim card?
Could 1 of you guys request the Unlock code for my Galaxy S II? I don't have t-mobile, I brought the phone from a 3rd party phone shop. I have a receipt from the shop, but I'm assuming t-mobile wants a receipt that it was purchased from them. PM me if someone will help me pls.

It's not possible to do this for you, need TMo SIM, they check it.
You can pay one of those services a small amount of money for a code. It's fast and less hassle than trying to get TMo to give you one.

That's not what I meant. I'm asking how can I enter the unlock code? T-mobile said the only way is to put in a non-tmobile sim card and then it will prompt for it.

If it is locked to T-mobile, you will be able to use other T-mobile GSM sims.
You can unlock it by either calling T-mobile (tell them you are leaving the country and need an unlock code), or get one online (which you will need to pay for: like $20 bucks I think). Once you get the unlock code you will be able to use other GSM sims.

CAN i use at&t note ii with different carrier?

I have note ii from at&t which is also rooted. Can i use with different carrier as I am contemplating verizin wireless? Other day, i talked to girl in bestbuy and she has outright refused has no clue of what rooted phone is. Approached another guy, and pointed me to anohter person in another best buy location who can do some real technical advise but reminded me to talk to him in secrecy.
Another option seems to be sign up with Verizon buying real cheap 10$ phone and change the sim card.
Thanks,
No, you can't. GSM networks only with this phone like T-Mobile. Verizon is a CDMA network

As another member posted, with Verizon no. You can use it with T-Mobile, Simple Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, Red Pocket, Straight Talk, etc. Only GSM carriers support this phone. No CDMAs.

You what mate?
AT&T and Tmobile are GSM networks, mostly compatible.
You can use any AT&T phone (even locked) on AT&T or one of their MVNOs, basically resellers of their network. See here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_mobile_virtual_network_operators
If you unlock it, you can also use it on Tmobile, or any of their MVNOs. But Tmobile HSPA+/LTE data networks may or may not match up too well with your AT&T phone, depends on the phone.
Sprint/Verizon use CDMA, a fundamentally incompatible technology from GSM, so it is a no-go.
okay , i switched to tmovile and got an LG G FLEX. Turns out this phone is piece of ****, dropped 2 feet with the rubber case and screen cracked. Now I am going to use the ATT NOTE II with tmobile. Once I transferred the sim card out of that ****ty LG G FLEX's SIM onto NOTE II, it says network locked SIM card. What do I do? should I bring to tmobile and attempt to have unlock the sim card? Or Bring to ATT? Thanks.,

When I moved our Note II to T-mobile, I got an unlock code from one of the websites. Then I took it to T-Mobile and used that unlock code at the store. Lot's of sites that will send you and unlock code and directions to unlock. You can search this forum for "SIM Unlock" and you'll find plenty of threads.
Did you get the T-Mobile "JUMP" for the Flex? If so, then you can have it replaced, otherwise you're SOL.

Req. unlock code from AT&T...

I paid for my phone up front and will be requesting an unlock code from AT&T just as soon as my phone hits 60 days.
Once my phone is unlocked, i understand i can switch carriers... which other carriers will i be able to use aside from AT&T? At least with 3g speeds?
Also, once unlocked, will i be able to use cf auto-root to root? Thoughts on this?

You will be able to use any GSM carrier which use sim cards, and you should be getting 4G speeds with mostly any carrier.

No. Carrier unlocking and Bootloader unlocking are different things.
I called at&t a week ago and ask for the unlock code because I am travelling out of the country, and they refuse to give it to me unless I pay the remaining balance since I use attnext program, so I decided to order the code online instead ,within 5 hrs they sent me an email of the unlock code and works great, I am in the Philippines right now, works great with SMART telecom sim with 4g lte, just sharing haha

[Q] T-Mobile cell SIM in AT&T tab? Possible?

So long story short I can't figure this one out... I have a spare line (Tmobile) with truly unlimited data and I'd like to use it in a tablet. I have been told it's (impossible) by a tmobile store. This is the same store that told me I can't teather past 5gb until I told him I'm rooted and custom. I'd love to get a galaxy tab s on my unlimited data! Please advise.
P.S XDA is Awsome!!!
I have the TabS 8.4 T707 for AT&T. The tablet is SIM locked to AT&T but you can contact them for the unlock code if you paid full price for it. I bought mine from BestBuy and it took about two weeks for AT&T to get the unlock code to me. It was a big pain to get that code.
I'm using mine for international travel and it registers on the networks. Just check which LTE bands Tmobile uses.
Also, the tablet is on sale right now for $380 at BB.

Hi Lochniss,
How can you get ATT to provide you the unlock code? I tried device unlock request and ATTMobilitycare, and both said that the unlock code is not available.
I also bought the TabS from Bestbuy and unable to unlock it.
Regards.
Vrance Lam
vrance - I had to go through the "AT&T Chairman’s Office of Executive Escalations (ERT) team". I don't know if you can call 611 and ask for them??? I came into contact with them when I filled a BBB complaint stating ATT did not unlock my unsubsidized mobile device. I was rejected a couple of times but did not give up. Finally the person with ERT had Samsung USA contact Samsung Korea to get the code. I cannot understand why ATT does not have the code, but it blows my mind that Samsung Korea has it.
For everyone reading this... please be courteous and patient with these guys. They did not set up the ATT system nor do they have the solutions at their fingertips. As I am doing with the community, just guide them to the answer.... good luck.
There's much easier way if you have an active ATT account (phone account is OK). Just insert your ATT sim into your tab s, give it a few hours until ATT system update your phone information (you should be able to see tab s as your new phone in your online account page). By this time, your imei is in ATT database, you should now be able to request your unlock code thru their online system. It took less than 24hrs for me to get mine.

Hi Xiaonan80, thanks for your advice. Will try that route. Do u know if ATT prepaid SIM card is ok to let the IMEI is in the ATT database? I am not a ATT customer, but can try buying a prepaid SIM to try it out.
