[Q] Flashing AT&T Rom on a Rodgers version - Samsung Captivate Glide

Is this possible because I am looking to get it on newegg and the version is a rodgers version. If it is, please tell me how.

yes. At&t and rogers use all the same wireless frequencies (afaik) so as long as you unlock, you'll be good. I've had issues before though with GPS on phones from not my carrier. My old Milestone kept trying to reach telus servers for gps info. However, I was able to mitigate that by changing some files in the root folders. However I don't think that will be an issue with this phone - I'm currently using an at&t rom on my rogers phone and everything is super.

For me sometimes the onscreen keyboard doesn't show up when I need to type up something but it occurs to me when I slide open the actual physical keyboard and close it

[Q] Using Captivate Glide in Europe?

As there seems no progress from the Samsung side to get the Captivate Glide to Europe, I thought about just buying one online from the USA. The question is whether it will work
From the specs it should support the european GSM and UMTS frequencies just fine. The AT&T branding is something I can live with, if it does not mean the device is locked to AT&T
So just to be sure: will the Glide work in Europe with my Vodafone.DE SIM?
Please say yes
You have to unlock it... sorry

And the Rogers version from Canada?
Or is the AT&T version easy to unlock?
Both are easy, just use the Galaxy S unlock app in the market!

Use the one by helroz, I used it on 3 different SGS devices and working. And the good thing is, you can re-lock the device just by re-flashing the stock ROM.

I've used the helroz app to unlock four of the original Captivates, but on my Glide it reboots during step two. I've rolled back to busybox 1.17.1 and I've checked the read/write permissions of the efs folder but it reboots the phone each time and the phone is still showing up locked. Any advice?

Using Samsung Captivate Glide in Germany
Hello,
I got a Samsung Captivate Glide from the US and an unlock code from eBay Member american_unlocker. Works like a charm. Now I use the Captivate Glide with the E-Plus network in Germany. There are of course some problems with the software. Some of the AT&T Software doesn't work without a AT&T Number. The Media Hub doesn't work either. And google books also can't find a lot of books. Thats a problem of the German IP. But all other things are very fine.

Try flashing the Rogers kernel and ROM and see if it is better for you. The A&T specific software you can ignore since it is bloatware.
Hello,
thanks yes I will do some ROM flashing now! Android is really great and for Linux users not so difficult to understand !
Yes the AT&The stuff is really irritating. Hopefully tethering will work then.
I purchased a AT&T Samsung Captivate Glide and got the unlock code from cellunlocker.net
Took 5mins to get the unlock code emailed to me and cost $28.99 USD. Could of got one cheaper on eBay but alot say they will only mail as email is against eBay policy.

You should definitely try Rogers ROM. AT&T ROM doesn't allow you to select GSM networks manually and you may have problems when roaming.
Where and how did you guys bought the Glide? Can you get it shipped to Europe?

Quick question about using the g nexus for Tmobile and Att

Does this phone run well enough to be a daily driver on tmo with 4g while on the road even more doesit work with Att 4g lte? How do I knitter I'm getting the compatible one for my carrier which is TMobile right now, and roll be Att in the future. Where can I also get the best warranty and overall price with product quality guarantee? Is it necessary to get the western Europe version with yakja and will the be a quality difference in other versions from school the other regions?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I bought my Gnex from Expansys-usaafter reading that it was a pretty reliable place to get the yakju version. I also bought a Square Trade warranty for about $70 that includes accidental damage protection as well, just in case. I've had the phone for a couple of weeks now on T-mobile and it works perfect I travel with it daily and have yet to have a signal issue or anything like that.

The gsm version (aka not he verizon versions) will work as well as any phone. E.g. the bottlekneck will be the network, not the phone.

Hey I'm sorry, th banks for all the info and concern it is really helpful I appreciate the concern. Anybody know if the g nez is worth buying if it's going for 450 on new egg and Amazon? And will I be feeling different if I get a sakju alternative like from Japan or anything different from other parts of the world in Asia or East Europe which aren't directly supported from Google and end up changing out the radios and the firmware. Will the be a lead to a loss or success?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I think its a damn steal for $450 and I'd jump on it in a second. To me this is the best phone on the market going for such a cheap price.
Are all the gnez the same with hardware specs?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Let's say I get a different variation of sakju I should be able to turn my phone into sakju and get it working with Google like it too right?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
So what is the negative difference from the Amazon version and the yakju version, and would it matter if going to root and install custom roms?
Sent from tapatalk V6 B2 from ics powered vibrant
From what I understand yakju just means it has yakju radio and firmware for ota updates from Google, what I think is when you buy a gnez that you can mode it into yakju with flashes of radio and firmware. Just a thought.

[Q] Wanting to buy an S3 in hawaii, wondering if it will work anywhere else

Hi all, i travelling to hawaii soon, and was thinking about purchasing a galaxy s3 while i am there, will i have any problems using this phone once i return to australia, i also noticed there are many variants of the s3, is there any i should avoid, or are they all the same but with different bundled software ?
i am keen to flash this device with custom roms in the future, so bundled software is not a huge concern of mine
Its either at&t or T-Mobile versions of galaxy s3 will work in your country but remember it will be sim locked...
Edit: might vary in Hawaii not sure if T-Mobile has network there...

They definitely have network there. My brother just moved there, and there are a few members on here also.

Wouldn't i be able to use the application 'GalaxSim Unlock' to unlock the sim, or would the S3's in hawaii likely be the Us qualcomm based GS3's ?
Why dont you just get one in Australia? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through? When you in Hawaii you just have to put a prepaid sim in it for it to work. Then when you go back home you have a phone that works well for your country without the hassle of doing something special to the phone to make it work for you. Plus you wouldn't be able to access the 4G networks of the Australian carriers with US variants.

Because they are much cheaper to buy, also, i do not consider unlocking/flashing etc to be a difficult task, i actually enjoy it, call it a pastime that i enjoy if you wish.
Also, only the 4G version of the S3 is going to work on a 4G network, so if i dont buy the 4G version, its not going to be a problem anywhere in the world
Fair enough.

What? All versions of the S3 are "4G". The one in hawaii will be Qualcomm based. If you buy an ATT one in Hawaii the LTE will not work in Australia

Looking to buy i927r

Does anyone know of a good place to buy this phone unlocked? I'd heard people talking about newegg before, but they seem to have the at&t version and i'd rather do without the little carrier tattoo under the earpiece.
I did on negrielectronics.com
they rock.
Fast international shipping, very efficient customer service, good price.
The bad side is that they are not largely stocked with captivate glide. I had to check their site twice a day for 2 months before i could order one. If you found one, i would suggest you not to hesitate.
Edit: I saw mostly AT&T devices. Rogers ones were mostly refurbished but you can find brand new ones as well. Just be aware that their stock is limited.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176361 clearly shows a Glide without AT&T branding. The box in the pic even says "Galaxy S Glide" which is the Rogers name for the phone. You could email Newegg and ask.
Any particular reason you want the Rogers version? The radios are identical.
Maybe because he wants a few features the att version removes

The rogers one can toggle data without root or custom roms, and it has no carrier branding. It also has no carrier bloatware.

Not totally true. It has a boot animation, though agreed not the logo printed on the phone like at&t. Also it has a lot of bloat and I mean a lot.

Hey guys should I be careful buying a used tmobile phone? How can I be Shure the is good to use? Not stolen or in the blacklist or what about if I buy the phone and then the seller report it stollen. Will tmobile disconnect my phone even if it is on simple mobile? Is there a safe way to do the transaction. Lots of questions. Thanks
well, it is not safe, if the phone report stolen or blocked it by tmobile, you can't use it with simple mobile. and there is no way to know if the phone ok or not, it will works for a couple of days/weeks/months but once tmobile block it. you will be sorry. anyway I bought mine from amazon, I talked to them first about people selling phones on amazon and then the phone gets blocked. they put a note in my account that if the phone got blocked I can return it back for a full refund no matter how long. and btw mine is used.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
T-mobile phones are the worst to buy used because it can be blocked for 2 reasons, unpaid EIP and phone reported stolen. I almost got burned but luckily I was able to tracked down the previous owner. The phone worked for weeks before it was blocked. Scarry.
This is currently my experience.
I own an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 that I just got yesterday. I got it unlocked, and right there I'l put Simple Mobile on it and it worked just great with the only exception that I get only 2G on it and I'm on an area where most T-mobile users get 4G.
So got somewhat disappointing but didn't give up. From there I rooted it and I flashed a T-mobile SGH-T889 ROM on it and it ROM itself works, but with Simple Mobile I still get only 2G.
From here, I'm thinking the only thing I'm missing is the Radio (or Modem if you wanna call it that way) for a T-Mobile phone since I'm suspecting I'm still using an AT&T radio.
I haven't done enough research to see if I'm right on my theory. So as soon as I get back to the kitchen I'll flash a T-Mobile Radio and see if that works.
