[Review] Fantom Tempered Glass Screen Protector - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The idea of having the best and ultimate protection for our phones is great and luckily, X Gear had brought this to life with a tampered glass screen protector.
The screen protector was packaged up very nicely with its own separate box. A cleaning cloth was also included in the package.

Installation itself was really easy. What I did was peal of the first layer, which revealed the adhesive side, and aligned it properly according to the cutouts. After having it lined up, I just released the other portion of the screen protector. It stuck very nice and felt great.
The glass wasn't that thick at all; according to the website, it measures only .4mm thin. I had encountered a couple minor problems on my end, such as a decrease in touch sensitivity on the bottom half of the screen as well as a crack when I tried to rearrange the position of it. It might only be a defect with this particular screen protector but I am going to ask for a replacement and see if that helps at all.
After a couple weeks of using it, it provided a magnificent type protection that kept the actual screen's surface nice and clean, and I have to say it is worth the investment and trying it out.
Link to product: http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/samsung/fantom

I have noticed that while the outer surface of the screen protector seems to be very scratch resistant the side with the adhesive seems to be easily scratched. when applying the SP i noticed some lint on the adhesive side of the SP so i used the provided MF cloth to clean the screen upon installing the SP i noticed a slight scratch. Despite this one minor nuisance i find that i am EXTREMELY satisfied with the Fantom SP, almost everyone that has seen my phone with the SP on has no idea by look or feel that i infact have an SP on the phone until I mention to them that there is a Tempered Glass SP on it.
I should also add that it fits perfectly with out any interference to the SGP Ultra Hybrid case that I use.

Thanks for the review, I'm definitely going to try one out for myself.

Doesnt seem to be a case. Think its just his white Nexus in the OP.

Ah that would be why. I gotta find that housing and do that.

Nice Review! I'm tempted to buy one now.

i know there are some people that don't seem to have issues, but i'd highly recommend against this protector. it kills the touch sensitivity on the bottom half of the screen and nav bar. i had to remove mine last week due to the sensitivity issues. looks like you pay for return shipping & 20% return fee, too, if you find you don't like it. read this thread:

Recommend a "full screen" protector?

I'm looking for a screen protector that fully covers the front screen. I've indicated the most common areas that are not covered by various screen protectors out there:

I'd like at least areas A, C, and D covered. Can anyone recommend a good film for this? I don't want any of the soft films like BSE or Zagg that will easily indent with regular stylus use. Like most other users, I'd prefer something with minimal rainbow effect, good image clarity, and fingerprints that are easy to wipe off (I don't mind fingerprints but I'd like to be able ot easy wipe them off - oleophobic coatings are a bit extreme IMO). I've read a bunch of reviews here on xda and other forums of different SPs but each one seems to have one major drawback or doesn't cover the screen like I'd prefer. Any suggestions?
Anyone?
SGP GLAS.t. Hands down the best. Trust me I have tried them all and wasted too much money in the process.
It covers the areas you want, its oleophobic, and I have found absolutely no faults after 2 months.
Its a tad expensive, but you are paying for what you get, and that is the best.

thanks! i saw that mentioned a couple times by other people. i've just worried about the stylus responsiveness...did you notice any reduction in stylus accuracy?

I have a friend using spg glas t. It won' t affect the sensitivity. I want it for my note but its abit expensive for me.. But i would definitely save up for it coz its a good investment to protect our precious notes..
It was the one thing that made me sceptical as well, but it doesn't affect the SPen at all and I use it at least once a day.

thanks! worth a shot then instead of blowing money on the different softer SPs to find the "perfect" one
anything but the oleophobic sgp. Total waste of money. I got the exact same results from a £1 protector both in grease resistant property and screen visibility.
SGP Samsung Galaxy Note Screen Protector GLAS.t Premium Tempered Glass Series
Bought this "SGP Samsung Galaxy Note Screen Protector GLAS.t Premium Tempered Glass Series" yesterday, for 30 quid. First time I ever invested 30 quid for a screen protector. But its worth it.
I agree with all those that said the Glass.t. I installed it yesterday and its amazing. Full protection just as you want. The clarity is just fantastic. It is expensive but I'm sure it will last and keep your phone looking like new.

BasalGuardz Screen protector for GNexus - Unboxing and Review

Hello,
I have placed order for the Basalguardz Ultra-Clear Anti-Fingerprint screen protectors. What attracted me the most is the very low price
compared to all screen protectors in the market, while still shipping with 3 films and all necessary tools to install on your phone.
Here is the unboxing:

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is the protector on the phone:
Now, let me jump into the good stuff and bad stuff about this protector:
Pro's
1- Extremely cheap compared to any protector in the market, considering the fact that you get 3 films in one pack for the price of 2 films
by other providers.
2- Brilliant customer services, I only had to contact their head office in US and they set me up with a direct shipping off Hong Kong (As
as living in Middle East and it's way cheaper and faster to ship via HK mail).
3- Above average packaging with proper instructions on the pack and a packing slip for extra assurance that you get the right protector
before opening the pack.
4- Goes all the way to the edges, which is good in the sense that you got your screen fully protected.
Con's
1- The way the screen protector is installed is very weird: Normally other competitors will place "Remove to install" striker on the top on
the screen to allow for a better alignment above the earpiece and front facing camera. However, BasalGuardz decided to place that at the
bottom! Not sure why would that be considered a good idea! I had to remove the protector couple of times in order to properly
align in and end result, alot of dust got in between and my end install isn't the cleanest.
Here is a picture to explain:
2- Goes all the way to the edges, which is bad in the sense that you might have dust on the edges (especially at the bottom) since the
screen is curved and that could cause dust to slip in and screw things up for you!
3- The texture on the screen is very clear yet it feels very sticky and it doesn't necessary keeps the fingerprints off the actual surface,
still catch some oil and fingerprints (not very visible but still not as marketed).
Overall rating: 3.5/5
Would I recommand this? to be hoenst, I don't think so! beacuse it's very hard to align the protector with the peel happeing from the
bottom unless you are really a professional, not to mention that it's very easy to have fingerprints all over it so techinically speaking
they are selling you a product that doesn't do what it's suppose to do!
Let me know what do you guys think. Anyone else used it, shout out your short review!
Regards,,,
Thanks for the review. I would love a fingerproof protector but hate the blurry matte ones. Don't want to waste a bunch of money finding a good one.

Go get the SGP Oleophobic .. brilliant stuff ( still doesn't cover the majority of the screen which may look dodgy sometimes )
I emailed BasalGuardz with my review and this is this their reply:
Thank you.
That placing the tabs at the top was something that we probably need to be doing. It does indeed make it easier with this phone.
As far as the anti-fingerprint. It will certainly greatly reduce the fingerprints without the need for a matte surface, which some people do not like. Personally, I love the matte protectors. Others want more clarity. I just do not like the "sticky" feel of clear protectors.
It will not, however, keep every fingerprint off. It your hands are incredibly sweaty or dirty, then it would certainly not help in that case.
Thank you,

Yeah Trident did the same thing w/ their screen protectors putting the tab on the bottom.. stupidest thing I've ever seen.
You are complaining that they put the tabs on the bottom, really? Just stick a piece of tape on the top and start from there. Tape is a necessity when installing cling protectors like these anyways.

[VZW] Skinomi full body skin

I wanted to share my experience and answer any questions should anyone have any. I searched and didn't find much in terms of full body skins for the nexus, especially the skinomi and more specifically the CDMA model.
As we know size between gsm and CDMA are a tad different. I know that phantom skins makes a full body for the vzw nexus but I was able to get my skinomi for 14.99. I figured for that I would try it out and share my experiences.
What the kit includes -
- one full body skin / 3m / dry application ( style of your choice - see website ) which covers pretty much everything but screen.
- one wet application screen protector
- micro fiber cloth
- application solution and squeegee
- instructions?
First impressions -
it fits pretty well. I use the extended 2100mah battery and it covered the door perfectly. ( I think the doors are about the same size anyway ). I did have to stretch it a bit down the sides for the volume rocker and power buttons to fit inside the cutouts perfectly but it was ultimately painless and very easy.
The quality of the skin is great. Its a 3M material but pretty thick. The point is not to add drop resistance, so if you drop your phone a lot this is not for you. This is more so scratch protection for your entire device. It fits the CDMA nexus very nicely still allowing access to your volume n power as well as your 3 pin, headphone and charging port
The screen protector went on painlessly as well. I'm usually not a fan of the wet application screen protectors or that orange peel feel. This def feels thicker then your vzw screen shields but doesn't seem as orange peelish as something like a zagg. Still drying so I won't be able to share how it looks until then.
My only complaints, if I had to complain, would be around the edges. As you can see pictured the corners folded over a bit creating a slight bump on each of the corners. I plan to use a hair drier and attempt to push those down a bit more. Not a huge deal for me.
Overall I'm very pleased for 14.99+tax shipped. I got tired of the bulk of a case and wanted something new. Just sharing my experiences should you want to move away from a bulky case as I did and want to find a low cost high quality product that will fit the CDMA nexus.
If you have questions, ask. Hopes this helps someone.

Have the same skin and I love it, provides super protection.
Screen protector from them still needs improvement. I cannot even see the screen after 6 months of usage and considering buying a replacement from Zagg.

The screen protector, works perfectly for me actually, going 4 months strong!
As for the rest, I took everything off and left only the battery cover skin and the lens skin on...those rough edges were bugging me too much

[Q] What Nice Screen Protector do you recommend?

I'm wondering what you guys think is the ultimate screen protector for the Galaxy note 2! I have always used invisible shield but I felt like it would be to... well for lack of better wording "sticky" with the s-pen.
I ordered a Spigen Ultra Crystal and while it is not as smooth for the s-pen as the naked screen is, it is acceptable to me. However, the thing was not easy to get on straight (I am insanely OCD obout that) and I got it on, but i guess it is too low since the bottom wont seal all the way (the GN2 glass is curved?) I don't like that
- The screen protector must be very statically charged because it picks up little particles of stuff like crazy.
- It is also a fingerprint Magnet.
- It doesn't cover as much of the screen as i would like (not a huge deal and it might be intentional because of the curved glass)
So... what screen protectors do use guys like that work well with the s-pen? Preferably between $10 and $60
(also, please no posts about how screen protectors are useless and gorilla glass blah blah)
I'm waiting for invisible shield hd which feels like glass and doesn't distort the display. Running a cheap one for now until that is available.
Regurgitated From My Giant Note II
Phantomskinz and ghost armor are my favorite
Clear protector is just as good as ZAGG HD. They have Note 2 available now.
Think we are going to have a hard time finding a perfect one. I have the ghost armored installed. Way better then the zagg but it is a little soft. Leaving imprints if you push down with your Spen. Might be able work them out by warming the screen up but haven't tried.

Just installed. You want this.
There's two types of screen protectors -- flexible / rubberish like zagg or hard / plastic like this.
You do not want the flexible ones. Pen wont work well with those flexible screen protectors, you'll get orange peel distortion.
You want this. Clear and no distortion.

have always used and loved the ones from http://bodyguardz.com, great protection, feel great, they send you 2 sets and have lifetime replacement, all you pay for is shipping, plus they have these newer "carbon fiber" styled ones that I really like.
I installed my Spigen protector in the bathroom right after I got out of the shower. With a steamy bathroom, all the dust particles stay on the ground therefore dustless and perfect install.

The install went fine with my spigen and there isn a anything between the protector and the glass but after I installed it dust and stuff would attract to the screen protector. It stopped for some reason now and im pretty happy with it now unless I see something better on here
Thanks for all the replies so far, it seems like there are quite a few good ones to try haha.
Never used screen protectors before, but I have heard that this screen gets many scratches on it very quickly...so, with that in mind, I want a high quality protector...no matter the cost. Is the Zagg HD a hard protector (like recommended for the S-Pen) or is it soft just like all their other protectors? Also, how is the spiegen protector?
im using armorsuit militaryshield on the entire phone. it works great

Zagg Curve S8+ install/ first Impressions.

Picked up the last Zagg glass Curve and installed it today. Its great so far and the cut definitely supports most cases. I sampled a few cases that Best Buy carry and they fit to include the commuter Otterbox case. didn't have anothe phone to take fitment unfortunately. The included RED mounting guide allows for a perfectly centered installation

I went to Tmobile store today, had not 1, but 2 attempts by the store. Didn't see what he messed up on the first, seemed easy enough with the kit provided. Second one was a good install, visually, but the center became immediately unresponsive. The clickity issue came about. Hope you have better luck.
I used to install them when i work at Best Buy so it was easy for me. He may have bowed it which cause the loss of contact. I've been using for about 5 hrs with no issues. I will update if it does change tho.

All of the tempered glass screen protectors have the either adhesive on the top and bottom or all around the edges. But not on the entire surface... The good brands will use true silicon adhesive. While the cheaper ebay brands will use ****ty adhesive cutouts..

Are you referring to the adhesive area? If so no, the rest of the screen protector is completely unnoticable.

How does this hold up when the phone is wet? I'm worried about switching to tempered glass, since the adhesive is just on the edges, not sure if that would be sufficient enough to seal off water?

So, i got mine today and installed it on a phone fresh out of the box. I used the guide they send and it went smoothly. However, ive noticed a couple of things that i dont know if i can live with. First, the sensitivity in the middle of the screen especially the home button and middle keys on the keyboard seems to be slightly affected. I have to push just a little harder for things to be recognized which i find obnoxious. Im a fast typer and find that i am constantly going back and correcting almost any word that contains keys in the center 1/3 of the keyboard. Secondly, and this one about drove me batty, is that the corners seem to not adhere completely. This causes an audible click kind of noise but not all of the time. It took me most of the day to figure out that it was the screen protector and not some sort of weird keypress or something. I may have fixed that issue though but running the blow drier on high around the screen for about 15 seconds and then pressing firmly all the way around. So far it hasnt came back.
Anyone else experiencing any of these issues?
I'd stay away from Zagg there screen protectors arent as perfect as there retail price point would suggest.

My screen is still adhering to the sides but it has bonded lots more since the initial install. I have no issues with sensitivity, sorry you are having bad luck
