Digital Audio Speaker Docks for Jellybean/Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Do these exist? I remember reading this article a month or two ago about jelly bean allowing digital audio over USB so there should be full docks now.
Anyone know of some good ones?

Hi kenjiwing, the standard SAMSUNG POGO pin dock for the GNEX,

outputs digital audio via the 3.5mm jack at the rear of the dock.
It output's optical as well as standard analog (non-optical) digital using the appropriate cable.
You of course also get standard line out for hooking up straight to an amp. The socket at the rear is not a headphone jack as so many reviews have called it. And no one to my knowledge has mentioned it can output optical digital.
I'm not sure if this answers your question. At the very least you might be more informed about what this dock can do. Optical digital from your phone? Amazing stuff.
Have fun. Anil

the one the OP is talking about plays audio over USB and can technically be used for any device where as the dock is specific to the nexus

Hi rptw, correct me if I'm wrong but this is the Galaxy Nexus Accessories forum, right? So hence my suggestion was purely for that device.
Perhaps the OP might get a more general answer posting a question in the general ANDROID Q&A forum, probably.
But still, optical digital audio from the dock for my phone. You have to agree, it's pretty incredible.
Have fun. Anil

I have two different USB DAC at home. I verified that Jelly Bean update did not bring USB DAC capability to the Galaxy Nexus yet.

Is it something we could make? Like hack up a usb cable and connect it to a jack.
I saw when they announced this. It's good news it would be great to have universal audio docks.
Also this isn't the first time this has been avalible. My g1 didn't have a 3.5mm jack. You had to buy micro usb headsets and female 3.5mm jacks. They worked on my HTC hero too.

There are these docks
AS111
AS140
AS351
AS851
I know it isn't audio over USB rather over BT and uses USB to charge but still they are pretty good looking docks

That's because it has to be made specifically for are phone.

The kernel could have supported USB DAC to make generic DAC work. Works out of the box with SGS3.

That would be handy. We have a home unit I could use this with.
Thanks!

Yeah I originally bought the audio only version but Just ordered the combo so I'd have one less thing to take up my cigarette lighter adapters. Gonna gift the old cable as it still looks and works like brand new. P.S. they are pretty fast shipping wise as well.
I want to get this for my Volvo but not sure if it will work. My Volvo Ipod adapter plays the playlists on the ipod, and I'm able to play slacker. ANyone think this will work with a Volvo ipod kit?

They only list the VW and Audi as not Compatible. I think you'll be fine. Either way if it doesn't work it won't be hard to return or resell.
Neat, I will definitely think about getting this

Serves me right to be called a spammer lol. I switched to iPhone with the iPhone 4 and just came back to android for the Galaxy 2. Since I switched everything for iPhone I had to find a way to get my new Galaxy II hooked to all my docks and car kits I spent hundreds on. Buy or do not buy, but I have been hanging around here since 2007 and thought it was about time I contribute.
I've been using a female dock adapter I picked up from Deal Extreme, but it picks up electric interference when I use it in the car. Anybody else experience this?

I haven't had any of that out of the audio only adapter I have. (the one on top) The charging and audio adapter arrives tomorrow hopefully, so I'll let you know after I've had a chance to test.
Yes... thanks. I need one of these.

Well it ended up being at home waiting for me yesterday. I can report that with power and audio I have no feedback or noise in the background. Just clear music. I think those other systems just aren't grounded as well. Hope this helps your decision.

does the sgs2 have anything like this, like the iphone?

the sgs2 has meh quality.. but a direct digital read is perfect quality.. it cant be distorted, so if there is any fault it falls on the speakers. the iphone has a plug that can play music right from the USB plug, does the sgs2 have anything like this?

Yeah, iPhone has a line out dock. So does the iPods. I had been trying to search for "micro usb LOD" but it always comes out with nothing.
EDIT: Changed my search terms and found these 2 interesting links

This Line-In might not work because as it is, its a line in.
The official Samsung dock appears to have a Line Out via the USB port, so it must be possible.
A cheap USB to Lineout will have the same issue, a poor DAC.
What is that in the photo, on the bottom of the adapter? A Micro USB port?

You're forgetting the DAC. You will need to convert the digital data into analog *somewhere* -- if not the phone, then on some other device. If that's what you want to do, then you better be sure that your new DAC is better than the one built in the SGS2, otherwise you're just making the problem worse.
FYI, that iPhone pic is a headphone amp, it is not a DAC. The iPhone dock connector passes line-out analog audio through the dock connector. It is not a digital signal in the way you are thinking. Basically it is the same thing as the regular headphone output; the only difference is that it is not amplified.
A friend of mine was going on about this the other day...I'm sure he had a solution. I'll find out and report back!

Not passing through the Yamaha's preamp it's nice but isn't the output still susceptible to processor and GSM interference?
The official dock for the SGS2 has a line out. Not sure if this is thesame quality as the lineout on the phone itself.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Car Dock going to work with HTC One?

I purchased the iBolt XProDock for my Galaxy S4 and it works fantastically. I just got off of the phone with Verizon and they are swapping out my S4 to a HTC One due to on going issues I've been having. I have been looking at cases and what not for the phone and realized that I have the car dock that I use regularly since I travel quite often for work. I know the phone will physically work with the dock as far as fitting, but I am curious if the cabling will work. It is the same micro usb connection so I know it will fit, but I am wondering if it will put the phone in "dock" mode like it did on the Samsung? The cable I got also has the headphone jack on the other end for connection to the aux port in the car. Does the HTC One support audio out through the USB port like the S4?
It supports audio through the usb but you need an otg or whatever it's called cable.

I have basically that cable (I think) that is a part of the iBolt dock. It takes it from micro-usb male to mini-usb female. Basically the same cable the iBolt dock uses. Only different is it has clip points to connect it to the back of the dock and it is rigid so it can be shaped and held in proper place for connection to the phone.

Then that cable connects to a male mini-usb that has a male usb and male mini-plug (head phone jack).
I'm assuming this will work once I get the correct cable (first image) that will put the phone in dock mode. The current cable is for my old S4 and it put the phone in dock mode and supported audio thorugh USB output.
Just as a side note, can you show a picture of the cable your taking about?
Why not just search USB OTG cable?

Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks
why Need that when you have an AUX port on the 10?
When i dock my phone in my car, i want to plug only one wire to it. Also do not want to have 2 wires coming out from my dashboard.
Audio through usb c should work if the Audio device supports the htc 10. i've seen some cables like this, but they won't work on the 10 because only few devices work with the 10 over usb. so it Looks like you have to have 2 wires there
Do you know which ones work with hTc 10?

nope sorry, but there should be DAC which work with htc 10. the jbl from htc Homepage work with the 10, but appearently nearly one of the few usb-c Headsets, so no real choice
I have tried this cable
and got this screen
i have found out something about driver for an HTC adapter, but i cannot get it working on my 10

This app is only for bolt/U Ultra and u11 because they have no headphone jack and therefore it is only for those device to patch the Firmware on the usb-c to 3.5mm Adapter. this cable you have has no Firmware. that's why it won't work
So there is no way to get it working?

nope only if HTC adds support. also depends on the USB port how the wires and connections are set
A workaround would be to hook up a bluetooth receiver to your car's aux input. Then, you will only need to hook up power to your phone as it will automatically connect wirelessly for audio.
my car radio have built in BT, but there is significant difference between a wire and BT audio qualitty. Am using BT just for calls
Was hoping that i can get AUX and QC in one USB type C cable. Little diasappointed about it

for when the Aux port fails, like mine did
About that...
My audio jack also stopped working. So I pursued the USB C option. However, this did not work well.
I tried the zinsoko and official htc bolt adapter. The zinsoko worked for audio but not the microphone. The htc one did not work at all.
I ended up calling HTC and they said that it was covered under the regular warranty. So I sent it in and they fixed it.
Now I just need to make time to install a new ROM on my phone.
If I were you I wouldn't pursue it...just get it repaired.

Best Bluetooth to Aux Adapter

We have lost our Bluetooth to aux adapter we had in my wife's car. it was this model, but it seems like they have a newer one out now. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004KPLS7K/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=
Anyone else have one they prefer?
me and two of my friends use this one: https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetooth-Receiver-Streaming-Hands-free/dp/B008AGQMQC/
Well, they have this one since I had the older one that's discontinued. That metal aux part comes out btw so you can run a regular cable.

Thanks and I am glad you mentioned that. I saw that one but didnt want it because I didnt want that bulky thing sticking out of my aux LOL. I was quite set on aptx but i am reading some reviews and it seems like it really doesnt add much especially for stock car speakers. The fact that this is bluetooth 4.1 makes it attractive. Many are 4.0
I've been very happy with this one, and it supports Aptx:
iClever Himbox Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit with Clip, AptX, Multi-Point Access,3-Port USB Charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011NR0BY8
Now that i think of it, my previous one didnt have a battery and had to be plugged in. Sounds like a negative but it was great because you didnt have to turn it on and off. I think i am going to stick with one that has to be plugged in and turns on automatically.

thanks! adding this to my list. This is on the pricier end of what i am looking at but also checks all the boxes including aptx.
FYI, I also had to buy a ground loop noise isolator with that Himbox, since I was getting some interference noise.
