[Q] Galaxy S4 Car Dock going to work with HTC One? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I purchased the iBolt XProDock for my Galaxy S4 and it works fantastically. I just got off of the phone with Verizon and they are swapping out my S4 to a HTC One due to on going issues I've been having. I have been looking at cases and what not for the phone and realized that I have the car dock that I use regularly since I travel quite often for work. I know the phone will physically work with the dock as far as fitting, but I am curious if the cabling will work. It is the same micro usb connection so I know it will fit, but I am wondering if it will put the phone in "dock" mode like it did on the Samsung? The cable I got also has the headphone jack on the other end for connection to the aux port in the car. Does the HTC One support audio out through the USB port like the S4?

It supports audio through the usb but you need an otg or whatever it's called cable.

I have basically that cable (I think) that is a part of the iBolt dock. It takes it from micro-usb male to mini-usb female. Basically the same cable the iBolt dock uses. Only different is it has clip points to connect it to the back of the dock and it is rigid so it can be shaped and held in proper place for connection to the phone.

Then that cable connects to a male mini-usb that has a male usb and male mini-plug (head phone jack).
I'm assuming this will work once I get the correct cable (first image) that will put the phone in dock mode. The current cable is for my old S4 and it put the phone in dock mode and supported audio thorugh USB output.
Just as a side note, can you show a picture of the cable your taking about?

Why not just search USB OTG cable?

Does the Note have A/V out via headphone socket like Galaxy 9000 Used to?

I know it's not HD just standard composite vid and stereo but does anyone have a lead to give it a whirl. I remember it worked on the Original Galaxy i9000..

No, that is very dated nowadays for phones made this year. Most have mini-HDMI or MHL adapters that use the micro USB slot to output video. The Galaxy Note needs MHL adapter to have HDMI out.
Composite connection is available on practically any TV especially when we travel, however HDMI is obviously available only on the HDTVs which might not be accessible while travelling to remote places, so its a good thing to have a regular composite output in your pocket. I know unfortunately nothing could be done in this regards other than to look for an HDMI to composite/component converters.

More expansive electronic on the device, more the device will cost:
If you travel, you can buy this converter:

Is this an mental idea. I have a TV out lead from a previous HTC Touch Pro. Mini USB connector. Could I just use a mini, to micro USB adapter and get the GNote to broadcast out that way, or wouldn't it do anything?
I've even seen a 3.5m out lead '3.5mm to RCA TV out cable, composite' Works on the Galaxy S.
Or can't you get anything to any kind of TV at all and the only option is an MHI to HDMI lead to a TV that can take HDMI (Samsung make one, it's about 20 Euro).
Other option is, I have no idea what I'm talking about, at all....

MHL to HDMI adaptor cable

Hello all,
Today I was excited to find a cable that I'd ordered last week from Hong Kong on ebay had arrived.
Micro USB MHL to HDMI Cable Adapter HDTV For Samsung Galaxy S2
Well if it works on the S2 then it probably works on the Note. Well I plugged an HDMI cable into my Dell 1920 x 1200 monitor, that cable into the adapter and then a micro USB power cable into the micro USB power socket of the device.
Doesn't work
Hmm. Its a pretty simple device. Well I tried swapping micro USB cables in case it works differently with MHL or non MHL cables. Still does nothing. Damn.
Maybe it requires particular software to drive the video. Well no joy yet. If anyone has some suggestions then I'm happy to hear them. It was pretty cheap. But I wish it worked...
In case you were thinking of getting one of these. Here is the one that I bought.

Are you aware that it needs power? In your case, your device needs to be connected to computer usb (as it said in item description)

Cable can't too long.
Sent from Taiwan.
I have a similar one to that from China or somewhere and works great, do need to plug in your mains charger for it to work though. Only issue I had was you I needed to screen fit on my telly because it wasn't fitting properly but after I ran that it fit to te screenproperly.
Good news that MHL is working on the note, especially after the news of the Pioneer AppRadio 2.

I wasn't clear enough in what I wrote. I plugged in the micro USB power cable into the devices micro USB power socket just like in that picture, so yes I gave that a go but still didn't work
I bought a Menotek brand adapter off Amazon, and it works great for me. My TV luckily had a USB port (for firmware updates), and it powered the device just fine.
i bought one off ebay and according to the seller it is the original one
it works great
but you need to turn off the data (3g) because it causes disconnects on the lcd

discount code "ROCK20", thanks "The One" from droid-life.com
That IS a great looking dock. If they made a pogo pin variant for the galaxy nexus, I would buy it in a heart beat.
Link isn't working for me. It shows the site but they list nothing for android for me.

In for video reviews.
Kind of spendy, but it's nice that it's universal.

Does the micro usb rotate 180°? I have a couple of devices and want to know if they all could sit in the dock and not be facing backwards

Car Dock = Desktop Dock

Has anyone thought of using the official car dock as a desktop dock? All you would need to do is plug the usb cable coming out of the dock into a computer or wall charger instead of a car charger and disable Car Mode (apk)!!
It is so elegant and beautiful. I would love to do this.

I've thought about that but I couldn't seem to find a picture that showed if it actually had a connector in it or just a hole for the usb cable to plug into the phone?

Yeah I actually just checked out that exact video... So it's kind of both... I'm pretty sure I'm getting it now. Time will tell what that much sliding along the plastic will do to the phone. I'm hoping nothing...
I've posted this one in a car mount thread, and it can also be used as a desk mount:
http://www.arkon.com/mobile-grip/mobile-grip-dashboard-mount-mg178.html
I am using it as a dock on my desk. Beware though; the car cable wont sent data trough so only charging is possible.
Dont ask why. They changed some wires on the cable for some reason.
^ damn that sucks.. i already ordered my second d160 to use as a desktop dock. i was hoping the usb cable would double as a data cable for the PC.

It does indeed. It is beautiful to use as a dock. Maybe you could fabric something yourself. You can also just flip it so that the micro-usb is on top and you can put a normal cable in there.
Ive thought of using the official htc car dock on for home use cause the phone easily slides in but dont really want to be paying £40+ for it .
Best place to get the OEM mount?
Yeah going to use my car dock on my desk.. My desk is glass, so perfect :good:

Nylon USB Cables

Hi,
My Samsung and apple usb chargers are absolute crap so I was looking at these new Nylon braided USB cables which are:
- at least 2x in length;
- much more durable;
- boast that they charge and sync at 2.4A which is significantly higher than the stock samsung and apple chargers.
Pretty sure you can buy reversible and micro USB cables also.
Has anyone had experience with these?
Here's an example product I found which seems great in value and holds the above specs:

my Samsung and apple usb chargers are absolute crap
I use a samsung 2 Amp charger, which has a usb socket in it – for charging my table and/or mobile phone. What do you mean crap? I haven't had one fail, and works as expected. So is this thread relating to the charger itself? Or relating to usb cables? For my charger, the charger has a usb socket – so you could put whatever kind of cable you want on it.
DO ...NOT ...BUY
I have had several ...
1. The contact is poorly molded. The micro-usb contact will soon pop out of the mold and break off.
2. The sleeve does nothing at all. It just looks cool.. the poor way the cable and contacts is molded it does not make the cable stronger.
3. Even how much the information emphasize that the cable can transfer more amperes this is not the case... All sleeve kind of usb cables I have had stalled at about 450mAh.
The best cables are the one that is not fitted with "bling bling" all around or brag about its quality.
I recommend you to instead buy a classic cable http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
This has:
Ferrite Core. Most people doesn't know what this round brick around the cable does anyway..
28/24AWG ..you can bend it all you want. It won't break. Also allow for more current to pass.
Gold plated. Does nothing but looks good..it will scratch off after a month from inserting and removing.
Note: The cables from monoprice isn't something special. They are only a retailer. The cables are manufactured in china.
It is a very nice usb cable. I had it for days and still works great.
