Spigen SGP Modello For Galaxy S3/III Review - High res. pics, HD video - Galaxy S III Accessories

The Modello from Spigen SGP for the Samsung Galaxy S III is simply wonderful. I’ve been using the case the past few weeks with the phone, and while it’s not perfect, it almost is. The thing that’s most appealing about the Modello is that it is only $14.99 a pop. All it is is a simple and cheap TPU case, yet, it exudes good looks. Read my full thoughts on the case below.
Special thanks to our sponsor for this review, CreTouch, visit them here if you’re ever interested in purchasing a Spigen SGP product. Without them, I would not be able to do these reviews.
The Modello is available in 7 different colors, all available for purchase here for $14.99 each. In this review, I review the Frost Gray model.

Unlike its cousin, the Neo Hybrid, the Modello includes nothing but the case itself. No screen protector, just the serial number and product catalog. But hey, for $14.99, I don’t really mind as long as the case itself is good.
Installation
Putting the case on and taking it off is ridiculously easy. I’ve tried TPU cases for the S3 and they usually have a tight fit, which cause the need for slight force when removing. With the Modello, the fit is just tight enough to not pop off easily, but to make installing/removing a snap. I can literally take the case off within 2-3 seconds. It’s that easy.
Accessibility
An upside from the Modello when compared to the Neo Hybrid is the wide accessibility to all ports and buttons. The Neo Hybrid showed a small and recessed opening for the headphone jack, but thankfully, the Modello doesn’t. Due to its slim nature, the Modello has no recessed cutouts, making accessibility great with the case. The cutouts for the camera, LED flash, speakers, volume/power buttons, microphones, and micro usb charging port are all precisely cut.
Design
There’s a saying that beauty is often found in the simpler things of life. That saying is most definitely true when you take sight of the Modello. It’s not flashy, expensive, or sparkly, but it just looks good while being simple. Taking part of this simplistic attractiveness is the without a doubt the matte textured finish. The finish diminishes fingerprints, making the case look clean and well rounded. While it has eye-pleasing effects, it also makes for a great experience when being held.
Protection
When it comes to protection, the Modello lacks. While TPU is shock-absorbent, there’s not enough TPU with the Modello to truly provide a good shock absorption when impact with the phone occurs. The case is simply too thin to be thought of as a protective case. You should also keep in mind that while there is slight lay-on-the-table design, it’s not thick enough to protect the front of the phone. And so you’ll need to buy a screen protector separately if you want screen coverage. So yes, the Modello isn’t perfect when it comes to protection, but I would say that it’s good enough to get the job done for most people. Unless of course you are someone who often goes on extreme adventures, I would not recommend this case.
Conclusion
Yes. I have no other things to say about the Modello, other then yes. The Modello is perfect for someone who likes to maintain the thinness and curves of his or her phone and is just looking for moderate protection.

I ordered the green one...can't wait to get it.!!!

Just curious on how it attracts lint... I have a hard plastic case from ringke & it attracts not lint. Is this similar to that?

It doesn't necessarily attract lint because of its smooth matte finish. If lint does get on, however, it's really easy to take it off unlike some other silicon/tpu cases.

Some photos of the Choco Brown Spigen Modello Case
Thanks for the review! I didn't find a single 'real world' photo of the Choco Brown version of this case in the wild, so I'm posting a few photos, which will hopefully be helpful. I like that the brown offers contrast on the white phone, but still adds some understated color.
I just got my GS3 and I was looking for a case that wouldn't ruin the thin profile of the phone, but would still provide a bit of scratch and bump protection. This case covers the first criteria, but it's thinness definitely rules out most shock protection. So the video review is spot-on. Similarly, the edge of the case is barely elevated above the surface of the screen (see photos), so I wouldn't make a habit of resting your phone screen-side-down without a screen protector.
Note that the case looks better in real life than under the flash of my camera. [See attachments]

Just got a frost grey and itcis indeed simple bur elegant....

The Ultra Thin Air Case does not cover the bottom or top of the phone. Why bother with a case at that point? Its hard to tell from the photos Spigen provides, but check the web and you will see what I mean about the bottom and top of the phone being almost completely unprotected.
Get the Modello + screen protector (my opinion) if you want something thin, that still covers the outside of the phone. See the last image I attached, of the empty case, next to the phone, to see the thickness of the Modello. If you don't mind an annoyingly shiny coating, Monoprice sells cases like this for about $3 + shipping. The Spigen cases have nicer color options and a matte finish that doesn't show fingerprints, which was worth the extra cost to me.
EDIT: I have never tried the Monoprice TPU Cases, so I don't vouch for them. One review says it makes the buttons on the side of the phone hard to press.
[Apparently I still can't post links. So you'll have to google Monoprice TPU case if you want to find them. They come in shiny black and white TPU and lots of other materials.]

Hi,
I can't seem to find the modello case not on the CreTouch website and not on Spigen website.
The CreTouch website has only one case for the GS3.
I also don't see the Neo Hybrid at the Spigen website.
Am I looking at the wrong place??
Thanks!

Neo hybrids were discontinued by sgp because of faulty buttons.

Does anyone have one of these? What are your thoughts? Exactly how thin are these things?
There's three main reasons that I never use a case:
There's only so much room in my pocket as it is
Decreases sexiness
I use mounts that are designed specifically for my phone. A case would get in the way of that.
If I am to believe their marketing... "The case is ultra slim, giving you the feeling that it's not even there"... then it would seem like at least #1 and #2 on my list would not be as much of a concern. #3 would probably still be an issue, but who knows. I plan on getting a ProClip holder for my SGSIII, and I've never had one before so I don't know exactly how snug it will be. If this cover really is as thin as they make it sound, maybe it'll even fit in that too.
Thoughts?
P.S. Show of hands... who saw "ultra slim, giving you the feeling that it's not even there" and immediately wanted to make a sexual joke?
I've also been looking for the slimmest case possible and been eyeing these. Any input would be appreciated!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
+1 also interested in these but have no idea how they translate as noone has reviewed them or has them that I've seen.
I'm not as worried about scratches as I am about the thing sliding out of my pocket or very short falls.
Although I'm sure this thing would probably increase friction enough to lower my concerns about pocket escape I'm not sure that it looks like it provides any additional padding vs my kitchen floor.
My main doubt with these is whether the case is so thin it breaks or becomes stretched..
Will have to check best buy to see if they are going to carry this like the flip cover.
And I will be the first to admit that I thought of a sexual joke too.
Well I went to buy them and they are on back order... guess they are more popular then we thought.

Doesn't look like that item really offers anything in terms of protection, aesthetics, or ease-of-holding. The Samsung ones probably don't offer much protection either, but the texture will at least help to grip the phone. Looks a little nicer too.

Just ordered that few days ago. lol
0.3mm thin! think about it! Though it doesnt offer much protection, im only planning on using it around the house and my friends houses.
I typically get a tough case like a Silicryllic or Otterbox, and a lighter/thinner hard case to protect from scratches when being put down, keep cameras protected, and a slight drop.
For my thin case I bought the Rock Quicksand in grey for my Pebble Blue GS3, and am VERY happy with it. It adds a lip around the screen so it can be set face down, controls are easy to get to, and it's different from everything out there. It's great to just have around the house, and set on a desk or counter and not worry about scratching the back.

Also considering the Diztronic blue TPU when it's released, and then either the Silicryllic or an otterbox maybe.

I'm (DBA Cases) am going to release one in 2-3 weeks.
That one for a few bucks is going to be garbage. When you are talking thin cases you have to use the right materials - no way they are.
Mine have a special blend of polycarbonate to take falls and scratches, a great grip and better design.
Of course they will be more than a few bucks but I'll have them on EBAY probably.
Let me know I'd love to test and write a full review for ya I'll cover shipping

I went with the Incipio NGP in translucent gray and it looks really slick on my blue s3

I've got the Rearth Alpine White Ringke earlier in the week. It's super thin. I've got a Speck Candy shell arriving today for comparison...
I owned one of the 0.3mm cases from ebay for my s2 and I'll give you my opinion:
1. They protect the phone pretty well. Even through some minor falls the case still held on and didn't crack
2. The case scratches pretty easy. If you get the clear one its not as noticeable, but it was very noticeable when I owned the black one.
3. I kept a screen protector on the phone as the lip on the screen side is minimal and I was still scared of setting it down on the screen side otherwise.
4. Used the case for ~6mos(2 mos black version, 4 mos clear version) with no major issues. It is still on the phone as we speak.
5. Super cheap(~$3) and did exactly what it was supposed to do(prevent scratches on the phone and case
I already have one on order for my S3

Tight fitting case for the S3?

So far i have tried case mate barely there, nice but little protection and the edges wear very quickly and SGP modello which is nice, but would be perfect if it were a tighter fit.
I wanted to try the neo hybrid but from what ive read the fit isnt any tighter than the modello.
Is there a case in the modello, neo style that is a proper tight fit?
I'm not sure what you mean by a "tight fitting case" beyond one that fits securely. With that as the criterion, I can recommend two cases:
Less protective, and currently significantly less expensive (because only shipping is being charged), is the ZooGue, which is available for the cost of shipping. I paid just under $6.00 for two cases shipped within the United States. The cases are well-made and at least as protective as the basic black cases my wife and I bought for our Vibrants back in July of 2010.
More protective is the two-piece DBA Ultra Complete, which I received last night from Amazon. The fit and finish are excellent. The inner layer is TPU. The outer layer is a flexible polycarbonate.

Don't ever Buy the case-mate Barely there. It's horrible quality. I've heard the SGP Neo Hybrid is good
I second the ZooGoo. It's pretty slim and one of the tightest cases I've used. The UAG and Casemate Pop are both tight but not as slim as what it sounds like you are looking for. I too have the Modello and loved it until I got the ZooGoo. I just wish I got Black and not Red.

The OP appears to be concerned about protection as well as a "tight fit." The more protection is an issue, the more I think I'd recommend the DBA Ultra Complete. But until last night, I was using a black ZooGue. It looks great with my PB SG III.
The Cruzerlite cases are awesome. Definitely tight fitting as requires some lining up to fit properly...can't just slap it on!
Buttons easily accessible, grease doesn't tend to build up like it does on my SGP screen protector either.

DBA Cases is a new company that makes the Just Like Glass screen protectors and Thin Grip and Complete Ultra. There are threads discussing the Thin Grip here, the Complete Ultra here, and the current production screen protector here. (I have no business connection with the company. I came across it in my search, as a new Galaxy S III owner, for a case and screen protector. The CEO has been an active participant in the discussion of his products. In response to complaints about the coverage of his screen protector, he had made and sent to seven testers, a larger trial model. I'm one of the lucky testers. Mine came yesterday. My initial impressions of the larger screen protector, which I'll expand on over time, are in DBA Cases supersized me.)

What case should I buy? (Otterbox Commuter, UAG Case, SGP Neo Hybrid)

Hello guys, so I recently bought a AT&T i747 SGS3 and knowing how picky I am with my electronics I started to look right away for a case.
The case must not add bulk, must offer great protection against scratches as well as the case not scratching the phone in any way, must offer camera protection and must have at least a small lip on the front.
So far I have come across these 3 which are:
Otterbox Commuter
SGP Neo Hybrid
Urban Armor Gear Case for the SGS3
As far as the otterbox commuter, I had it on my atrix 4g and loved the protection it offered but a few months later it just gets old, attracts lint on the borders and overall takes the beauty and slickness of the phone but I must mention protection was great and that is the most important feature for me.

The SGP Neo looks very promising offering a good quality screen protector and overall a great case all around but what has me worried is the direct contact of the TPU with the phone, specially the camera area and bezel as opposed to the otterbox which has a rubber sleeve, I had a blackberry about a year ago and the phone scratched badly on the bezel from dust getting under speck TPU case and acting as sand paper.
The Urban Armor Case seems like a very well rounded case, offering some type of rubber/soft TPU inner lining on the inside and a very tough poly-carbonate shield on the outside. What I like is that both pieces are bonded together offering a seamless design but what worries me a little is the X pattern on the inside which seems to be part of the outer hard layer which goes all the way to the top of the camera/flash/mic opening which could potentially scratch those components down the line.
Which case would you recommend and why?
Other case recommendations are welcome.
I wouldn't recommend the SGP Neo Hybrid due to the issues regarding sensitive buttons which many/most people are experiencing.
To make things harder for you, I'd also recommend looking at either the Incipio Silicrylic or the Acase Superleggera.
Edit: I also hope you realize you're in the wrong device forum (but accessories are all the same so doesn't matter)

Otterbox no longer attracts lint.
Otterbox is the biggest and has the most sturdy feel to it.
UAG feels really good in the hand. Less slippery than otterbox.
SGP still has button issues. It is super thin but feels as sturdy as a gel case.
The speck case is nice.

I have the UAG & Neo Hybrid, both are going back.
UAG isn't bad at all, but I'm not a fan of the stiff buttons...that being said, the Neo Hybrid buttons are atrocious. I can't believe they even released this case with all the issues I've been having.
Will probably try the commuter case next, as people seem to be having less issues with the power button.
Hey guys,
I have all three cases. Hands down the feel and the buttons go to UAG. what r u guys talking about the UAG buttons feel crappy?'honestly they feel better then any case I have ever tried for the gs3. The protection , otterbox wins this by a hair. Look goes to sgp but its very thin, buttons feel like crap and you can't buy the plastic bands seperate.. plus customer support is crappy. I love sgp ultra clear screen protectors though..
I'm just giving my honest opinion and in very anal on cases.. the gf gives me verbal treatment for buying all these cases
Thank you guys for your sincere opinions, so far I am leaning towards the UAG in white. I never drop my phones or anything and they are always over some layer of rubber or cloth when out of my pocket but I know accidents happened and that is why I need a case to at least cover it from getting scratched or dinged.

i have this case and the otter box (defender and commuter)
i like the defender because it has a protective screen the protects the entire front screen... the bad, obviously the size.
I like the commuter because it doesn't bulk up the phone that much, a bit slipper though at the back.
the original front flip case looks the best... but offers the least protection
Get the Commuter case! It's add a little bit bulky but the protection was MAX! I did few drop test in front of my friends to show off. It's drop from about 1.2 meter height and the case and phone survive it. I would recommend UAG case due to special design..^^
Commuter = Max protection + Keep the round shape of the phone
UAG = Less protection than Commuter + Makes your phone a bit square + nice design & less slippery.
Final decision still yours. Both case almost at the same price(UAG at Amazon.com, now only 21.99!!). Grab one of this and you will not regret for it. If not, grab both cases..xD

My sister grab this case also. Nice looking in the begining but after few months of use, the side of the flip cover start peeling off. Now she is using Non-Genuine SGP Neo Hybrid case only $6.

I'm waiting for mine to get here, just ordered one myself. As for drop protection, I would assume it offers as much protection as the spg or uag cases, if not more. There's a DBA thread where there is a picture of the outer plastic part of the case being bent almost in half and it still doesn't break so it's got to be pretty tough. The otterbox is pretty much max protection as far as drops go but it is also bulkier than any of the others mentioned.

Review of Cruzerlite N2 TPU cases w/pics!!!

This is a review of Cruzerlite TPU cases designed for N2: http://www.cruzerlite.com/cases/samsung/galaxy-note-ii?limit=30
Cruzerlite is probably one of those case companies that doesn't need much introduction. Although being around for a few years, they already established themselves with a series of unique TPU cases and a fanbase of loyal customers. For me this was the first time I got a chance to test these cases. One might say what so special about another TPU case? When it comes to Cruzerlite it's their Personality. These cases have unique design, often centered around Andy the Android character. But looks will only take you so far without actual quality behind it. So here is how it stacks up.
First case I looked at is called Andy Circuit Persona. It has a very unique printed design of Android character surrounded by electronic circuit traces. The print itself looks very durable and embedded into the case coating which feels scratch resistant, something you can count on staying bold and visible for a long time throughout wear and tear. The case itself, surprisingly, made out of a very durable thick TPU material which actually feels like it will be able to absorb a noticeable shock if dropped. Sides of the case snugly wrap around the phone and provide a nice lip to keep your display off the surface if placed screen down. Outside the case has a very smooth texture with a nice grip that feels secure in your hand. All the cutouts are precise and perfectly aligned. Also, power/volume buttons are exposed through a cutout and easily accessible. Typically I would not recommend TPU case as something that can give you a piece of mind if you drop the phone, but this one is an exception and I feel like it will give you a little more confidence if dropped.
The second case is from their Androidified Case series which is a specific Bugdroid Circuit model. This one features Andy the Android in the middle surrounded by etched out traces of electric circuit. This is a very unique design because you can actually feel etched out traces both outside and inside of this TPU case. The case itself is semi-transparent and feels great in your hand with an extra grip due to the etched out lines. Just like Andy Circuit Persona, it wraps around the phone, providing an acceptable lip to protect the screen from touching the surface when placed display down, and has all the precisely aligned port openings. Power and Volume buttons have cutouts for easy access. I would say Andy Circuit Persona will offer a better shock protection, but this one is still not bad and should provide you with a decent grip to avoid dropping your phone and some protection in case if you drop it. Also, both cases are smooth enough to get in and out of the pocket easily without pulling on any material.
Overall these are very nice looking TPU cases for everyday basic use. Of course what makes them stand out is the original design with its friendly Andy the Android in the middle. Also, cases have a very reasonable price without sacrificing the quality. For those who like to change their N2 cases on a regular basis and looking for a unique design, Cruzerlite line of TPU cases is definitely something to consider.

OK, so this was totally unexpected. Cruzerlite is well known for their cool TPU cases with Persona of Andy "the android" character. But do you guys know they have a line of plushies, the collectible Andy plushy toys?!? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...rlite+plushies&sprefix=cruzerlite+plu,aps,168
I just got one for review, and this thing is super cute. At first I thought to give it to my kids, but then I realized I want to keep it for myself. This one is Persona of Andy with a clear belly to put your Jelly Beans (get it?) in there http://www.amazon.com/Cruzelite-Personas-Andy-Jelly-Collectible/dp/B008GQ1OCI/
Here are some pictures of this cool Cruzerlite collectible toy:
Those cases look pretty cool. Green one would be my choice. Wow didnt know they made plush Andy character. I must order some now. Thanks for the awesome review as always.

I forgot to mention it's actually of a decent quality, not some cheap toy you get in a dollar store.

I was thinking about getting one of these. I always switch between my cases but the only I have that is really thin on the sides is the seidio surface and it's boring looking.
Are these cases smooth? Do they grab at your pocket when you take them out?
And are they super thin on the sides? The only time I can actually reach each side of the screen with my thumb is if I have my phone in the surface or naked.

Very nice slim tpu case.... but I couldn't use mine (Androdified) becaise it lifts the corners of my screen protector. So if you have a flush to the edge type of screen protector and you are not willing to cut or change it go with body glove tpu. Alnost the same thin design but the corner has more room to fit with sp. Of course its a boring solid color

They are smooth, not sticky, and relatively thin on the side.
Thanks for the review and pictures!! I've got 3 of their Androidified TPU Cases for my Evo LTEs. The smoke color looks really nice, the red color looks awesome (looks good on my black one, but really stellar on my white one!), and the clear was great for about 1 month. Around that 1 month mark though, the clear started yellowing and will NOT come clean no matter how I try to clean it!! It's so bad I won't even use it on either my black or white Evo LTE! I think I'm gonna go ahead an try one of their TPU cases for my Note 2. I always buy WAY too many cases for every phone I get, and always say I'm not going to for my next phone but always do, lol. Anyways, thanks again for the review and pictures!!

I have this case on my Note 2 (a red version) and I have some observations:
The cutouts are large -- meaning I can use my Samsung MHL-HDMI adapter without taking the case off. This is the only case so far I have tried that can do this. (Also used a Diztronic and stock Samsung case.)
The cutout on the headphone jack is a good size too and most cables plug in without issue.
The lip around the screen is quite large ..... this is good and bad. Good in that is will offer a lot of protection for face down drops. It is stiff and won't push off the screen easily. It also goes above the glass over 1mm I would say. (I had the Samsung case on my phone and it fell screen down, smashing the screen. The Samsung case has a very thin lip around the screen.) The bad is that it makes it slightly hard to swipe in from the left of right ... or get your finger to the far edge of the screen while cropping pictures.
You can feel the seams in the TPU from the manufacturing process...... it goes around the outside edge of the phone. The Diztronic TPU case is much better in this respect.... but the Diztronic offers less front glass protection .. and the cutouts aren't as big so you have to take the case off to use the MHL-HDMI adapter.
Just buy it. You will get the great case and support for the xda team.

The cases with Andy on the back are slightly thicker and more protective.
Ridin' a Note 2 blast

Does anyone has the cyan/light blue one?
Does it looks good on grey Note 2?
I'm sooo interested in that color!

What cases do you use?

I love this device and I'm waiting to get the Tech21 case for cheap on ebay for this phone as I loved it on my V30+.
Figured I'll go colorful until then.
I settled on this and it'll be here next week.View attachment 4777486
Got it in today.

This is an excellent 2 piece case with hard shell protection on all corners and a nice soft touch feel for 9 bux. It's very, very close to the Incipio cases I had on my S5. My Incipios have slightly softer tpu, whick looks just a bit thicker at shock points. On the other hand, this case is a little thinner, while remaining tough. It even has more hard protection on the top of the phone, and the plastic case feels stronger for that extra edge.
It's so cheap, I bought both color combos to mix and match, plus I'll have the replacement for whenever the plastic eventually breaks from a fall (even my Incipio cases broke to save the phone).
LG G8 ThinQ Case, Androgate... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RRMQNKZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you use this, remember to install and remove in 2 steps. Like most good 2 piece cases, the plastic shell holds the phone tightly, be careful how it flexes around the key cutouts during removal. It seems smoothest to remove the power button edge first.
Although the Incipio feels slightly softer, I'm confident the protection of this is roughly equal in everyday use.
CoverOn case rocks
Great case. TP around the edges and poly-carbonate back that is clear. Works great with wireless charging. very good fit.

It doesn't have that rainbow look due to the back being glass?

I have the following cases, but am currently just using a skin from slickwraps.
Ghostek Covert
CruzerLite Leather Texture
Ringke Fusion X
Ringke Fusion
Encased Slim Armor
I have also spent a good amount of time at the carrier shops trying out the overpriced (but pretty great) cases:
Speck Presidio Grip
Tech21 Evo Check
Casemate Tough Clear
If anyone has questions or wants photos, let me know.

I really want to see how that CruzerLite looks in real life. It was the one I was torn on before I picked that blue one I've got. I definitely want the Tech21 but it's gonna have to wait until I can find one on eBay for less someday.

I'll take some photos once I'm home. It's a very nice case and I use it when I get tired of looking at a greasy, fingerprinted device. I've have a love/hate with Tech21 cases - they're great protection but they add so much width. I'd say they're worth it if you really want that 10ft drop protection without going to something beefier. I'm a desk jockey so I'm really enjoying the phone+skin and I only slap on a case if I know I'm going to be somewhat active. It's a shame there aren't more options for LG phones. No love if your name doesn't start with Apple or Samsung.
Septembersrain - It does have a few small areas on the clear back smaller than a dime that look a bit extra shiny since they are in contact with the glass. Not rainbow though.
This case is awesome, very sturdy, has a lip to protect edges of screen, slim, supports wireless charging, kick stand on back for propping up phone in landscape mode, 3 colors, perfect cutouts.

Same as you will similar, simple and effective and still showing its colour.
I'm rockin the Ringke Fusion, aqua blue on black. Case does its job. Looks nice. Not very comfortable to hold though.
I'm using the spigen tough armor. Loving it so far! doesn't add too much bulk, but it's a solid case. the kickstand is a fantastic feature
I use TPU cases from X-Level.
Spigen Slim Armor, can't really go wrong with that one
And for $20 it's a decent price imo.
Spigen Liquid Crystal
Spigen Liquid Crystal with a Speck Grab Tab.
literally using the one it came with, thick and sturdy enough and hasn't yellowed yet either (crossing my fingers)

I use these also, they're great cases and work perfectly with wireless charging.
any love for the G8S? i guess not
Im using the Ghosttek case and so far its been what I was wanting. No more sliding off flat tables, or out of my pocket in the car and falling down under the seat anymore. All the buttons work well and has a minimal effect on the overall size of the phone very good case if you arent looking for otterbox style
