[bootanimation] Galaxy SIII boot animations - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I own the Verizon GSIII but thought I would share these around with everyone...
These boot animations will only work with custom Roms/kernels that allow for the use of bootanimation.zip
All flashable .zip's place the bootanimation.zip in data/local
I hope you guys like them...
If you do, give me a "Thanks"

This is a ghost that I have been chasing for awhile now. I can't reproduce it on my phone. It seems to only happen on certain ROMs/kernels.
I'll take another look

Hey schu,
Do you mind if i use the countdown one in a rom i am putting together, It is for a T-Mo? I will give proper credit to you and Jaekar99. Please pm me if you do not want me to use it. I will prob. mod the last ten frames or so to state the name of the rom and my dev group.

I am trying the middle one on paranoidkangdroid/cm10, and I think it's great. I was getting kinda tired of the paranoidkangdroid animation, so I thought I give this one a shot.
I didn't know it, but I am limited to 8 "thanks" per day and I guess I used them all. I will come back and hit the button tomorrow.
Anyway, thanks!

Here are the .qmg files straight from system/media:
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
Here are the audio .ogg files from /system/media/audio/ui
PowerOn.ogg
PowerOff.ogg
As far as installing this or modifying it for installation, I will defer to someone more versed in boot animations than myself.

Installing is more involved. Boot animation qmg files boot at the kernel level and there are a few lines of code that need to be edited in the ramdisk if you're running a stock based kernel that has been modified for traditional boot animation support. If you're just running the stock kernel these should work fine though.

No special instructions or need to wipe anything. The flashable zips simply place the file (bootanimaion.zip) in the proper location for it to run on boot.
Wiping dalvic and cache will make your phone take longer to boot if you want to watch the animation for a longer period of time

I'm sorry but your question is a bit confusing...
If you were using one of my boot animations and you flash a new ROM without wiping data, then my boot animation will remain.
If you wipe data then flash a new ROM, the stock boot animation that came with the ROM will play.
I hope this answers your question.

Boot animations can be located in /data/local and /system/media. It defaults to system I believe and then falls back to goes to the other if not located. Try it out before updating.

[Boot Animation][CWM] Inverted AT&T Stock Boot Animation

Hello everyone!
I've put together a beta recovery-flashable zip of the Inverted stock and original stock AT&T Bootanimation. I've personally tested this on my Galaxy S III and it works beautifully. Please note some (not all) are having issues with this not working. I believe some ROM's read from /system/media FIRST instead of the usual /data/local. If the recovery flash does not work for you please manual install bootanimation.zip to /system/media. Please note that you must have a kernel that is compatible with custom boot animations to install this. Thanks!

Instructions:
1. Download to your phone's SD card
2. Flash in recovery
3. Reboot from recovery.
4. Enjoy!
For those of you who wish to know, the bootanimation is flashed to /data/local rather than /system/media.
To flash manually with Root Explorer, etc. :
1. Download and extract the CWM flashable boot animation file below
2. In the extracted file, navigate to /data/local and copy the bootanimation.zip file
3. Navigate to the root of your SD card
4. Go to /data/local and paste the file there OR alternatively /system/media, overwriting any old boot animation (please backup your old boot animation if you wish to revert soon). Please note that /data/local is the first place that the OS looks for a boot animation. Any boot animation placed in /data/local will override a boot animation placed in /system/media.
5. Reboot and enjoy
This SHOULD work on any device with a 1280x720 resolution. If you flash this on phone other than a Galaxy S III, you do so at your own risk.
WARNING: I have included an extractable zip containing the stock boot animation sound "PowerOn.ogg". This is absolutely NOT a recovery flashable file. I have opted not to include audio due to discrepancies between ROMs' designations of boot animation audio files. Once again: Do NOT flash the audio zip in recovery because it will not work. This file is intended for advanced users and modders who know what they're doing. Sorry in advanced for sounding so strict, this just needs to be said. Enjoy guys!
Thanks for this...anyway to get the boot up sound as well?

Originally there were no plans but since you asked nicely I will try my best to work it into both animations. I might also do something a little special for the inverted if I can think of something creative. (Verizon bootsound?....jkjk )
Edit: Since sound requires edits that may be different depending on the ROM I will NOT included it in the package. However, I WILL include the .ogg file with the boot animation sound for those who are adventurous and know what they're doing.

Interesting. I'll take a look at it when I get off work tonight again. I refreshed the files the other day but all I did was fix the updater script which wouldn't apply to you. Regardless, I'll see what the problem is tonight.
Edit: I looked at the files from root explorer and everything looks okay...did you check permissions? Try flashing through recovery and see if that does anything for you and let me know what happens.
Edit 2: I think I know what the problem is and it's really stupid. I think this only works on stock roms right now because of the way the colors are sorted. I'm going to try to fix this and I'll update the OP until I figure it out. Boot animation factory gave me a warning about it but the animation worked so I ignored it. I have to figure it out then repackage. I'm sorry about that. If you have any insight let me know.

Alright so what I did was change the image to and RGB format instead of an index format (my mistake). I'm sorry about that. I've reuploaded the inverted boot animation if you want to give it a shot, Duffman. If this doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you other than your kernel doesn't support bootanimations or you're putting the files in the wrong place. I've triple checked my files, the formats, and everything else. If you still have an issue, please tell me your ROM information as well as kernel, etc. Then let me see your /data/local and your /system/media folders (screenshot) just to make sure it's all good. Hope this works (99% confident) and I hope you enjoy!
No go. I am running Jellybean 747 m3.
I flashed via TWRP. I am running Jellybean 747 M3 with stock kernel it came with. The images in the bootanimation.zip are your inverted ones.
Attached is my data/local folder. Can't get system/media in this post. See my next post.

Duffman, everything looks right. Important question: Have you verified that the kernel supports custom bootanimation.zip suppot? This animation worked for me but I'm on stock based ROMs. I made the original boot animation flashable for jerrycoffman45 and then individually edited each image to invert it. After some trial and error, we got the original up and running no problem. Inverted and stock boot ran just fine flashing through CWM and TWRP. I must ask, have you tried other boot animations? I would really like to get this working for you and I'm sorry it's not right now. I don't like to post work unless I feel it is complete and it's been tested.
Edit: It looks like Jelly bean milestone 3 does not support custom boot animations yet. I believe that is the only thing holding you back here. I went through the thread and there was someone asking about it being included in milestone 4. It seems like it can't be too far off!
I guess that would explain it then lol!

Thanks for testing. I'll reflash an insecure kernel with bootanimation support and get to the bottom of this. Sorry if it's any error on my part. Can anyone take a look at this and double check my files? It's working for some but not all. This isn't my first bootanimation and it won't be my last. It might be problems with the png files or my updater-script but I'm not sure. I've looked over it enough to pull my hair out why it works for some and not others. Thanks!

bootanimation on my S3 is located in /system/bin. The boot animations in /system/media are the Samsung Logo files.
What you could do is rename the file in /system/bin and create a symlink from /data/local
adb shell
$su
#ln -s /data/local/bootanimation.zip /system/bin/bootanimation.zip
This method worked on my Motorla Atrix, so it should work here as well.
Im running stock rooted H9 on AT&T and I cannot get ANY custom boot anims to work... Tried /data/local - /system/media - /system/bin - and made sure that all the permissions were right, nothing works. hmmmm

It won't work on stock unless you have a kernel that supports it. For example, I'm running Triune II with an insecure stock kernel and bootanimation support (the ROM comes with this).

Downloaded the rom and the gaps to my computer. Extracted the boot. Img to my fastboot folder. I then booted to twrp. I did a full wipe including formatted my SD card. I then mounted my SD via USB while still in twrp and copied the rom and gaps to my sdcard. Then unmounted the SD and then installed the rom and booted to bootloader fastboot USB then flashed the kernel with this command... "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then rebooted the device. Waited 15 minutes. Never got passed the boot animation. So I thought maybe it was because I hadn't installed gaps, so I rebooted to twrp and installed gaps, then rebooted. And still didn't get passed the boot animation.

im trying to cheat without downloading entire odexed framework to my phone, but try this file, its EXPERIMENTAL.
This is for ODEXED only and is EXPERIMENTAL:
download BOTH FILES below (download both incase u have to revert back to normal), move both files to your (external/internal) SDCARD
go into recovery
Flash zip " d_ap_test1.zip" using recovery
reboot
let me know if it works
if it doesnt work just flash "RESTORE_od_ap.zip" reboot and u will be back to normal
let me know if it works.

k thanks for testing, ive removed the files for now, im gunna have to flash the odexed system to my phone to get it to work, u might have to wait a day or 2 unless someone else wants to convert it. odexed files are a pain , i would try it today but im in the middle of a google wallet nfc experiment using the deodexed system which is the main reason i made this 4 way boot since i was tired of using terminal and adb to get into recovery.
No problemo, brother. Take your time and thanks!!!!

Here's the 4-in-1 Reboot Menu Mod for T-Mobile users running the DEODEXED stock Touchwiz rom.
Tested and works fine on deodexed build of JDQ39.M919UVUAMDB.
Feel free to use it in other roms, just give me some credit.
After you press Reboot, you get 4 options (Normal, Download, Hot Restart, and Recovery)
This is for DEODEXED only: Deodexed Download
just flash in recovery and reboot
i am no longer running odex version so we might have wait till the next time i have to wipe my s4 so i can use the odexed file dependencies to be able to make a odexed version.
Special Thanks and Credit to the following for making it all possible (in no particular order):

Much appreciated here too. Had been using free app called Quick Boot that basically will do almost same.
Simply clicking on icon gives Reboot, recovery, Bootloader and Power Off options. For those also following along, the three button salute using volume up, home and power will also force a recovery. Anyways, thanks again for posting this.

So ODEXED is the stock rooted phones....
and DEODEXED is the Custom roms with a different framework.
So there is NO confusion for anyone.

actually a custom rom can still be odexed.
easy way to know is just go to your phone using root explorer or similar app and look at the /framework (and sometimes even system/apps) directory and if u see a bunch of ODEX files (files ending in .odex) then u are odexed.
If u do not see any odex files then u are deodexed (not odexed)

It's funny but (not trolling here folks so put the keyboards on pause for a sec. just pointing out a fact so bare with me) there are people that have been here for a long time (like myself and more so longer) that forget as newer devices make their way on to the market and in general more people find that they can do more with their devices than they ever dreamed, more find their way here and don't know what some of the inner workings are like or what to look for to start to learn as there is a ton to figure your way through even as advanced users.
Something simple as the apk structure in any device would be a new world for some one coming here from Apple we'll say and may not know that it matters. Patience and direction like @XeoNoX did here makes a huge difference on how new users find their way.
Now to the reason I decided to post is the flash worked great (Odex build, rooted, and everything else) and was wondering if anyone knew if triangle away was in the works for us? I don't mind it being custom but we all know there may come a time we need to take measures.
got deodexed MDL version going.

just put it (dont unzip) with the exact filename under /system/media/ or /data/local/ will do if your rom supports custom boot animation. no need to clear cache
if u still.cant see it, probably your rom doesnt support custom boot animation like stock rom . else, see if the rom maker provides any hints to make it happen or u will have to enable custom boot animation manually

hi reconkiller
i have read the post and from what i understand is, it is "supposed" that u flash an extra thing called Boot Ani Flasher for custom boot animation support. i didnt read the whole thread but from what i found in the search results is, it looks like the rom does not support custom boot animation natively if i am correct, as i found some ppl make it happened with other methods
i suggest you to read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31833122&postcount=4 which shows how to enable custom boot animation. it is quite simple and i have read one of the scripts and it should be ok. so may be you can follow the steps there to enable/test custom boot animation with your rom. note that pls be very sure what you are going to do and do a backup before

This method works on CleanRom 4.8.
Here's what I did:
1. flash CWM_CustomBootanimation_Enable.zip
2. place bootanimation.zip in /device/local
3. profit

Extended Power Menu without an app

In the spirit of sharing. I decided to post a Extended Power Menu for some of the G2 variants. Use them as you will. I could only test the At&t and the Korean 2302k11a firmware. If you post your android.policy.jar I will make an EMP for you.
Here is a guide by kahvitahra so you make your own.
To Developers there all yours. Enjoy
For deodexed roms

I had tried yours but it didn't change. I tried it manually, but it didn't change...
Could you retry it from my ROM for a deodexed D802? Here is the file. Here is an odex file and jar for an odexed version of a D802.
EDIT: After looking this over I think the problem is the values in the public.xml of the framework-res.apk. I tried changing the framekwork-res.apk to match the three values in the GlobalActions "99" file. I then added this to a ROM and flashed it, but it caused boot loops. I tried to just change the values in the JAR file, but it won't recompile as it creates mismatches. I am not sure what else can be done... Are the other versions for the different variants confirmed to be working with this?

Worked it out updated adb, here is the odex version (as in NOT for deodexed rom) version for STOCK roms D802:
International G2 Extended Power Menu - Odex.zip
Backup odex files in case you have issues:
International G2 Extended Power Menu - backup.zip
Just flash the desired zip in recovery of choice.
All credit goes to @bigfau the champion.

@somemadcaaant - Gonna try this odex version ASAP!
Can you try to remake the deodex version, I have been racking my brain to get it to work.
I can confirm that the deodexed & odexed version of D802 does not work! I have made tried the deodexed version several times without positive changes. I tried the odexed version on my stock ROM and a modified stock ROM, neither of which worked.
I don't think these will work unless the values are correct for our device. I prematurely gave thanks to somemadcaaant while it should've gone to bigfau for the idea. Thanks anyways!
What's the problem? Bootloop? Does the backup work if u flash it from my post? If not then it's something up with your framework. It should work on any D802 stock odexed framework. Try deleting the files before u flash including their.Odex and deleting cache/dalvic as normal.

The problem is that it doesn't extend the power menu at all. It's just normal after the flash.
I have a recovery backup of my odexed stock ROM, and I also have a modified stock ROM I can flash. I have tried both without success. I have even tried adding your file to the ROM zip and flashed without success. I also tried flashing your backup first (with both ROMs) and then using your zip, but it also failed.
I have examined the smali in your odex file (with an odexed and deodexed framework folder) and I am not seeing any of the additional files or changes to the existing file as needed (according to the tutorials) that are present in bigfau's zips.
I have tried it several times now and not been able to successfully create my own, or use yours. If you can create a deodex version I am willing to test it as I would love to be able to use this.
I just tested the files, installed and no wipe required, they work so I'm not sure what you're doing or what java files you're looking at... Creating a deodex version is pointless as bigfau has already done it. Make sure u flash the correct zip, the new menu appears after you click "Power off and restart".
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
@bigfau @somemadcaaant
I apologize as I had no idea that you had to click the "Power off and restart" before the mod would work. I was under the impression that new menu would be the only menu.
Maybe it would help if the OP also stated this so no one becomes confused like me. Thanks!
