soo i found ckpv5's guide to root htc one v more complex and difficult for a newcomer to android ..( it did to me ) soo i am writng another one in my way as i being a noob wld understand
So guysu just got a new HTC One V which is running on the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich version and so if you want you can root it using the following Step-By-Step Article. Rooting allows you to expand the functionality of your phone and lets you do more things on your phone than before. like custom roms ,kernel ( which increases performance and battery both..),or u could just do it to install your wanted or fav root app from the play store
following things
You Must Know:
* *As long as your phone is rooted will warranty will be void.
* *Proceed at your own risk and ensure you backup your device before hand so that anything happen you won't have a new paperweight. Because i dont take any responsibility for any loss of data or if u brick ur device..
soo-
You're Going To Need:
* *A HTC One V
* *USB Cable (Same one that came with the phone)
* *Make sure your HTC One V have at least 50% of battery life.
* *Windows PC, Mac OS, or Linux (only need one)
* *You are going need your HTC One V’s bootloader unlocked. (You can do that with the link below You're Going To Need: (Read Article Before Downloading)
http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter
* *Superboot Image
* *HTC One V bootloader unlockedStep-By-Step Instructions:

Step 2: Turn OFF your HTC One V.
Step 3: Boot up your HTC One V into the bootloader mode. To do that, press and hold Volume DOWN key --> then press the Power Key.
Step 4: When you have entered the bootloader mode, connect your HTC One V to your PC using the USB cable. (Same one that came with it)
Step 5: select all other supported models (complete bootloader unlocking from the site listed above
once done come back here again
soo now i hope ur done with bootloader unlock process ..proceed below
A) Windows Only: If you are using a Windows PC, run the install-superboot-windows.bat file by double-clicking on it.
B) Mac OS Only: If you are running Mac OS, then open a Terminal Window at the place where you have put extracted files, it should be Desktop. Type the following commands in the Terminal:
chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh
./install-superboot-mac.sh
C) Linux Only: If you are having Linux as your OS, then open a Terminal where the extracted files exist and type in the following commands:
chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh
./install-superboot-linux.sh
Step 6: It will take a few seconds to root youe HTC One V. When it’s done, disconnect your phone from the Windows, Mac, or Linux.
And That's All, you now have a rooted HTC One V.
ENJOY!!

My guide is a little bit like that because I respect the original creator paulobrien and the original r1-primo-superboot.zip is linked to his download site and proper credit stated on the thread.

i ran root checker basic but it says that my phone is not rooted , i also ran terminal and it is showing a $ rather than a # sign and if i did my homework correctly i should see # if my phone is properly rooted ?

[TUTORIAL] How to S-OFF your HTC Desire

Hi there !
Many people here want to be S-OFF on their HTC Desire but don't know how to be, this thread is for you !
Credits goes to all AlphaRev developpers.
What is S-OFF ?
(Quotes from original AlphaRev website)
HTC implemented security on their newer generation phones. This flag, called @secuflag, controls whether your phone has
it's NAND or flash unlocked. Most noticeably, S-ON (security on) will read-lock your /system and /recovery partition, to name a few. Also, secuflag controls whether zip files being flashed through recovery or fastboot, are signed by HTC.
The now notorious S-OFF (security off) will disable this NAND security.
Since we are unable to access the Radio NVRAM itself (where secuflag is stored), we turned our attention to HBOOT.

For more informations about AlphaRev S-OFF, read the OFFICIAL Thread HERE.
There is many solutions to install S-OFF, this tutorial will show you few methods.
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK ! I'am not responsible of bricked phone, for more help try the OFFICIAL Thread.
PREREQUISITES :
a ROOTed HTC Desire ROM with debugging option enabled on it.
a computer running Windows XP/Vista/Seven (32 or 64 bits), Linux, or Emulation via WMware etc.
a computer which can boot USB devices (for USB method only)
a branded USB Key 32Mb or more (for USB method) or a CD to burn (for CD method).
EASIEST method so far seems to be now by "Revolutionary" method.
Please check this out before trying solutions below (they are manual and maybe outdated, because I don't have the time keep updated this topic, moreover I don't own anymore a HTC Desire).
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDES :
.: USB METHOD :.
Be sure to Nandroid backup your device from recovery (just in case).
Download the latest Universal USB Installer or UnetBootin.
Download ISO Reflash Utility from AlphaRev website.
Install the software of your choice.
Open it, and select your USB device and your AlphaRev ISO freshly downloaded.
Create your bootable USB key.
Reboot your computer and boot on the USB key you freshly created.
Press any key to accept the disclamer.
Once you are in your ROM, plug your Desire with the USB cable on your computer.
/!\ DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING TILL YOU GET THE FINISH MESSAGE AT STEP 3 /!\
(Some users reports it can take over 1 hour. Passed this time, pull out the battery and reboot your phone).
The USB key method worked 100% for me, I personally installed my S-OFF exactly like that on my Desire.
.: CD METHOD :. (by jshields)
Clic HERE
.: VirtualBox METHOD :. (by Stewge)
Clic HERE
.: VMWare METHOD :. (by -V-O-Y-A-G-E-R-)
Clic HERE
Congratulations ! you are done !
Note : If for some unknown reasons you cannot access your Recovery anymore, it's normal, you must flash your Recovery using "fastboot" (SDK Android Kit must be installed on your running computer).
You have the choice between flashing a custom recovery like ClockWork one or put the original one but I sugger you the custom one which gives you much many more features
How to flash your recovery using ClockWork's image :
Download Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 recovery image from official AlphaRev thread for bravo.
Move the file into "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" (default sdk android folder's installation).
Verify MD5 checksum of the image with a freeware like HashCalc or something (IMPORTANT !).
Go to the main menu of your AlphaRev HBOOT (turn on your device with return button pressed).
Go to "FASTBOOT" mode.
Go to your computer and open a new terminal (Administrator privileges required if Windows Vista or 7).
Enter exactly this (without ") : "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img".
Now you will have a ClockWork Recovery image installed and working
Note 2 : If your device freeze on boot logo, apply your Nandroid backup that your did before S-OFF.. that should do the trick.
If one day you want to S-ON your phone again, just reflash an original RUU rom !

Yeah, I found it much easier to just burn to a rewrittable CD. F8 on bootup to load up my boot menu, then I selected my CD Rom.

oh don't forget to put in the first post for ppl who gets stuck at stage 3 (it happen to me) just to wait for about 30 minutes or more (don't know exactly how long, just for safety), and then pull out the battery and reboot the phone...
many ppl report it work....

I think I'm done with the flashing of the hboot from alpharev
But now my phone keeps rebooting to the fastboot screen.
I've tried removing the battery and rebooting again, reboot from fastboot, reboot from clockwork recovery... but i still cant boot up my rom.......
Anyone can shed me a light on what went wrong?
All options to apply S-off should be included, this is a 'how to', and this is not THE only way to do it, personally I found virtual box the easiest method for me. I just think that some other options should be made clear to people, maybe people that have used a different method could add their own ' how to' to this thread?
Great idea though to help people.

Maybe its a good thing to sum up the benefits on the first page, to stop these kind of questions and making it a 500 page topic where you cant find answers...
I know if you read the forum, or use google you can find all the info

I have now read all the information i can find about S-OFF - Only advantage i can find is that you can change bootscreen.. What are the options if i choose to make S-OFF on my phone - What else can i change ? My phone is rooted, and i have flashed roms and kernels with S-ON - So you guys really need to show more advantages to this than what has already been written..
Nobody is trying to sell you anything. Why don't you GTFO?

[Q] how to root my HTC desire HD version Android 2.3.5 with HTC sense 3.0

Hi Everybody!!
I would like to root my HTC desire HD with android version 2.3.5 & HTC sense 3.0.
As per the xda forums I have tried both the options
1. Using the unlock root tool.
2. using the Advance Ace hack kit tool.
Using the first option it gives me an error saying that "Failed to get the shell root"
Using the 2nd option Advance ace kit tool. I had run the hack-ace.cmd file using run as administrator.
Then after entering the key it asked me to downgrade it as the version it latest.
I downloaded saying "yes" then it asked for Flash to downgrade option.
After that during the time of rebooting under the flash downgrade option, it got stuck under the HBOOT menu.
I am attaching the text file of advance ace kit tool run by me for any evaluation purpose.
I would click on the irc link in the ace hack kit and get help there...

The AAHK usually will complete the process itself quite easily, but you have to prepare the correct drivers etc....I tried it on Windoze first and it didn't work, then got home ran it n Mac and it went smoothly as anything.

Have you tried my method? Go into recovery, plug your phone in to your pc, go to shipped Rom and download your stock rom.
Run it from your pc and you will be fine. The manual method did not worked for me but this did. Just look at my link in my previous post.

Sorry, didn't realised that your buttons don't work also.
I am not experienced enough to help you I'm afraid. I'm sure someone will be able to guide you in the right direction.
Good luck!
Good news (partially):
I've talked to people at the AAHK IRC channel. They told me this problem was due to a corrupted sd card.
Following their advise, I've changed to another sd card. As a result, my HBOOT is now responding!
However, if I try to boot normaly, my phone does not boot. They said this is weird, and that I would have to flash an RUU. I've not done this before, but I think there are good tutorials around, so I'll give it a try...
Partial good news are better than no news my friend! Please keep us posted on your progress.
By the way, are you S-off ?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
Problem solved!
As proposed by the AAHK team (on their irc channel):
- Removed the sd card.
- Flashed an original (vodafone) RUU.
- Placed another sd card.
- Ran the AAHK again.
This time the AAHK ran smoothly and I ended up with an S-OFF terminal.
Now let those ROMs come...
Well done mate!
Enjoy and thanks for posting the result. May come in handy for the future
I am still getting stuck both in windows & Linux Ubuntu....

see bro.. the radio image i gave is for INDIA .. so its really useless if you flash it..
better go to htcdev.com
find a latest RUU
n extract the ROM.zip from it .. n then in rom.zip find the radio.img n flash it with the fastboot comands..
(how to extract rom.zip might be your quetion.. download the ruu(that is compatible to your device and cellular/country) n then open it .. n wait till it opens up the Welcome screen. when its open.. go to start menu . n then select run.. in run write "%temp%" without the quotes.. n then you will be directed to a folder in that folder make a search of a file .. file name is rom.zip . or it may be rom1.zip and rom2.zip.. it depends..
then you will find the radio.img in rom.zip or rom1.zip or rom2.zip (which ever is available) n then flash it in your cell with fastboot comands)
n for your safety i am telling again.. download the RUU that is compatible to your cell phone.. for eg the HTC_ASIA ruu is compatible with my region so respectively download it from htcdev.com .. ) hope i helped you

Will you tell me the exact procedure to flash this radio img...?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using xda app-developers app
Hmm, i think you must create some script in .zip and install it with clockwork recovery... i don't know try on google...
You can install with RUU Installer, but all rom with all files and you need locked/re-locked bootloader... :/
But you can use bltool to lock bootloader...
I recommended to install stock rom with all files with ruu installer with usb cable... and later install any custom rom and you got updated radio
Code:
https://rapidshare.com/files/3364800808/RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe
bltool can used from clockwork recovery, select install zip from sd card and select this zip... you will see options for lock, relock and unlock bootloader...
Code:
https://rapidshare.com/files/4097389263/bltool-signed.zip

[UTILITY|S-OFF] RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer for Verizon HTC One

Description
Verizon HTC One Plug-In for the RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer is now available!
WARNING: YOU MUST BE S-OFF TO USE THIS TOOL AND PLUG-IN
This plug-in will allow you to use the RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer written by regaw_leinad.
With the tool and this plug-in, you can easily create a custom HTC firmware zip for the Verizon HTC One containing a custom bootloader image. You will be able to edit the *** UNLOCKED *** text on the top to whatever you want it to say, change the S-OFF to S-ON, change the bootloader's minor version number, update the bootloader's date and time stamp, and either hide or customize the splash screen disclaimer. Using this tool to change S-OFF to S-ON changes only the text on the screen, it does not change your s-off status of the phone. Same goes for "locked"/"unlocked"/"Relocked" so be careful to remember the correct state of your phone.
Choosing the "Stock" option, the tool automatically sets your banner to say *** LOCKED ***, changes S-OFF to S-ON and hides the HTC Development Splash Screen Disclaimer.
This program will NOT flash the zip for you, but it will create a PN07VZW.ZIP file and save it your computer. From there, you then need to flash it via fastboot.
The process (flashing a new bootloader) is dangerous and may possibly brick your device if done incorrectly. You have been warned

This plug-in is based on the stock 1.54.000 hboot (v.10).
How To Flash A firmware zip (Devices without a removable sdcard)
Reboot the phone into the bootloader by either:
Powering off your phone completely, then hold Volume-Down and Power until the phone boots into the bootloader
If you have the android sdk set up, type 'adb reboot-bootloader'
Use the RegawMOD Rebooter
Connect your phone to the computer (if it isn't already) and issue the fastboot command
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
To flash the zip, issue the fastboot command
Code:
fastboot flash zip <[SIZE=2]YourZipName>.zip[/SIZE]
The device's progress bar may not be complete, but when the fastboot command says it's complete, issue the fastboot command below to see your changes
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
To complete the process, issue the fastboot command below to reboot your phone to normal operation
Code:
fastboot reboot
As noted in #4, the progress bar may not reach 100% when flashing this, and the the progress bar will likely look like this:
Just be sure to get the success response from the fastboot flash command and reboot via fastboot. Do not remove your phone from the computer until it has rebooted from the fastboot reboot command.

The answer is likely yes as long as you stay s-off, assuming only decryption keys were updated between hboots which is likely considering the hboot version number didn't increment between OTAs. Really though, the safest route is to install stock and let the v10 OTA apply. It is mostly just a radio update I believe, and then you're sure to have compatible firmware. You can stay s-off through this whole process.
Awesome you got this tested! Nice work, @junkmail9.

Make sure you have the latest main program. You will get an error loading plug in with earlier versions. If your main program is current and you have only one plug in, then the program will automatically load the single plugin in the same directory.
Also double check the md5 signature of the downloaded plugin.
Update: Main program needs to be version 2.2.3, not 2.2.2 as originally stated. Thanks to jmotyka for finding that. OP Updated accordingly.

That's strange. I have tested this on both 32-bit Windows XP and on Windows 7 64-bit (Professional) without any issues.
For the sake of troubleshooting, try downloading a different plug-in to see if it loads in the main program. Don't actually make a zip with the test plugin if it loads and absolutely do not flash it to your phone if you do make a zip... you'll end up with a brick. Be sure to delete the "other" plug-in after testing.

Right click on the plugin dll file, and in the General tab, click on "Unblock". You need to do that since the dll was downloaded from the internet. Doesn't the error message tell you to do that?

Hey thanks for your tutorial! i have a question though.
Do i have to remove the batery to get in fastboot mode? I'm saying this because i can get to the bootloader menu and select fastboot just by powering down my phone, keeping volume down + power pressed. I did'nt have to remove the batery to see the menu you are saying. So is it the same or do i have to remove the batery??
Thank you

Is there any custom rom for HTC Desire with full root as by the method stated I was able to root 1 time even without installing Supersu.I dont know which conflicting app i installed i lost root access then i tried but fail,Then i flash custom Rom from here BUt not getting proper root access.
no there are only Russian custom ROM... I know Russian and 4pda says there no more ROMs yet
We'll probably have to wait until the Desire 300 gets its own category
Please change the app from supersu to the non-cwm superuser app, and bundle busybox with it.
The desire 300, as a few people have stated, doesn't like supersu, and even with root, you can't change files on the Rom. It only deletes them.
Also, you can disable fastbooting in the power menu in settings.
Just scroll to the bottom.

I have had SuperSU on my Desire 300 for a couple of months, I have never had a problem with it. Files can't be changed on the ROM because the device is S-ON which means /system is write protected, even when /system partition is remounted as rw any files deleted will return on reboot.
A way to modify /system with S-ON is to do so from CWM with ADB or with aromafm.

Does anybody else have a bug with CWM having its graphics offset about 20 pixels or so to the left and reappearing on the right hand side of the screen?
Each press of the cursor swaps between this and perfect.

There is a patch for it, but it hasnt been converted for the desire 300 yet.
