you must create android folder yourself in you D: local drive... follow my instructions carefully... download all attached files and you will root your desire 300... it is not possible yet to upgrade, but soon most of the HTC devices will get android 4.4 kitkat upgrade... you must wait

Hey thanks for your tutorial! i have a question though.
Do i have to remove the batery to get in fastboot mode? I'm saying this because i can get to the bootloader menu and select fastboot just by powering down my phone, keeping volume down + power pressed. I did'nt have to remove the batery to see the menu you are saying. So is it the same or do i have to remove the batery??
Thank you

Remove and insert again carefully read instruction

Is there any custom rom for HTC Desire with full root as by the method stated I was able to root 1 time even without installing Supersu.I dont know which conflicting app i installed i lost root access then i tried but fail,Then i flash custom Rom from here BUt not getting proper root access.

no there are only Russian custom ROM... I know Russian and 4pda says there no more ROMs yet

We'll probably have to wait until the Desire 300 gets its own category

Please change the app from supersu to the non-cwm superuser app, and bundle busybox with it.
The desire 300, as a few people have stated, doesn't like supersu, and even with root, you can't change files on the Rom. It only deletes them.
Also, you can disable fastbooting in the power menu in settings.
Just scroll to the bottom.

I have had SuperSU on my Desire 300 for a couple of months, I have never had a problem with it. Files can't be changed on the ROM because the device is S-ON which means /system is write protected, even when /system partition is remounted as rw any files deleted will return on reboot.
A way to modify /system with S-ON is to do so from CWM with ADB or with aromafm.
---------- Post added at 01:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 AM ----------
Does anybody else have a bug with CWM having its graphics offset about 20 pixels or so to the left and reappearing on the right hand side of the screen?
Each press of the cursor swaps between this and perfect.

There is a patch for it, but it hasnt been converted for the desire 300 yet.

[HOWTO] Create a GoldCard - Bypassing the RUU/SPL CID check to Root/Downgrade

If you are stuck on a ROM you don't like (t-mobile/asian carrier etc.) you can use this howto to create a goldcard to bypass the CID checks so you can downgrade and root your Hero.
01. Download QMAT 5.06 here
It’s a demo version so will only run for 10 minutes.
02. Format your SD card to FAT32. Please keep in mind some brands of SD cards do not work.
03. Use adb to run this command: adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
04. Copy the SD card cid code displayed after the adb command.
05. Start Qmat and Click on Cyptoanalysis Tools > Crypto Toolbox.
06. Look at the bottom, there is a text box (beside the “Reverse String” button) enter the SD card cid code you got earlier.
Click on the “Reverse String” button, the result is reversed…
Example: 532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402
07. Copy the reversed SD card cid code.
08. Go to QMAT goldcard site here to generate your goldcard (yes it says for G1 but works for our Hero too).
09. Enter your email. For the correct SD card cid code, you need to replace the first 2 characters to 00.
Example: From “532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402” to “002600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402”
10. Click Continue and you will receive the goldcard.img in .zip format in your email.
11. Go to your email, download the zip file and save it to a directory and unzip it to goldcard.img
12. Download HxD Hex Editor from here
13. Install and launch HxD Hex Editor program. (make sure you use "Run as Administrator" under Vista and win 7)
14. Go to Extra tab > Open Disk. Under Physical disk, select Removable Disk (Must be your SD card), uncheck “Open as Readonly), click OK.
15. Go to Extra again, Open Disk Image, open up goldcard.img which you’ve saved/unzipped earlier.
Now, you should have two tabs, one is your removable disk, the other is goldcard.img. Press OK when prompted for “Sector Size” 512 (Hard disks/Floppy disks), click OK.
16. Click on goldcard.img tab. Go to Edit tab > Select All, edit tab again > copy.
17. Click on the “removable disk” tab. Select offset 00000000 till offset 00000170 (including the 00000170 line), click on Edit tab and then Paste Write.
18. Click on File > Save. now you can exit the program.
19. Reboot your phone with this SD Card (now GoldCard) inside
20. Use the Official HTC RUU to downgrade to 2.73.405.5 (which you can get here) from which you can fastboot boot and/or root your phone with flashrec.
Done.

Holy ****znit it works! Downgrading!!!!!
Hmm. I've followed the guide and successfully skipped the CID lock check of the device and flashed it to version 2.73.405.5 WWE. Problem is, I can't seem to get the device to boot into recovery mode after using flashrec (I did download and flash it just fine). the recovery mode (home + power) booted the device but it hangs at the boot screen where it says HERO. Any idea?
Edit: Ah. a little bit of the update. while the buttons do not work, i can use adb shell reboot recovery; however, after using flashrec, it still shows the old recovery screen ?
Edit2: confirmed, recovery flasher doesn't work now im using the SEA rom
I'll try the RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.6_WWE_release_signed_NoD river.exe rom later
I had the same issue with Recovery Flasher I couldn't to boot into recovery. I was also unable to downgrade to the 1.7 roms due to a bootloader version error, arghhh. Anywho, managed to work my way round it, i'll explain below. I've got a T-Mobile G2 updated to the latest rom (so no root access).
I first followed the instructions on making a goldcard and then flashed the 2.73.405.5 WWE rom fine.
Now make sure you have the cm-hero-recovery.img (http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/modacopatchedrecovery-1.0.zip) on the root of your sdcard. Aswell as Instant Root (http://neilandtheresa.co.uk/Android/) now install Instant Root on the phone. It should pop up with a notification "instant root was sucessfully" or along those lines. (If you have a problem installing Instant Root make sure Settings>Applications>Unknown Sources is checked)
Instant root then allows for root access with adb shell using the following 2 commands:
1) adb shell
then
2) su
the icon should change from a $ to #.
Now flash the recovery image with the following command:
1) flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img
This shouldn't take that long once completed it will go back the # prompt example below.
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img (I typed this)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img (this pops up)
# (this shows the flash completed)
Now pull out your usb cable and battery, turn on the phone with the battery in place while holding the home button and it should boot into the custom recovery .
Well, I hope this helps someone and I didn't just waste my time . Oh, thanks for posting the goldcard instructions.
it worked!!!
Thanks so much! I did the exact process before (see other thread) but I must have missed something. Following this process exactly is what did it. I am guessing something about the reboot and the RUU is where i went wrong before.
I can confirm this works on the 2.73.707.9 ROM
Yaaahaaaayyhaahhahahaahaayyyyyyyyyyyy!!! I feel so happy for all you guys who had this problem (although I myself did not!!)
I kind of half gave up at 6:00 am yesrterday and i just woke up (1
:27pm) and followed the instructions here and BAM! got a working nandroid backup and a custom rom \o/!!! thanks to all of you!
so it's tested and proven for 2.73.707.9?great!
umm ... guys.. if u dont mind me asking...... why do we need it?
do we have hero versions which cant be rooted with any methods?

Did it last night and got it working, used the AMON Hero recovery image instead and partitioned my sd card without going through the manual adb solution.
Cheers
could this be adapted for the sprint hero?
Sprint Hero support request strongly seconded, i am desperate to get my CDMA Hero rooted.
have you guys tried using thesame method and got anywhere? I mean, from what I know is that you can't even boot in to recovery mode right? have you guys tries the adb method to boot into rec mode at least?
Aces!!!!
Worked on Indian 2.73.720 like a charm.
Thanks.

[TUTORIAL] How to S-OFF your HTC Desire

Hi there !
Many people here want to be S-OFF on their HTC Desire but don't know how to be, this thread is for you !
Credits goes to all AlphaRev developpers.
What is S-OFF ?
(Quotes from original AlphaRev website)
HTC implemented security on their newer generation phones. This flag, called @secuflag, controls whether your phone has
it's NAND or flash unlocked. Most noticeably, S-ON (security on) will read-lock your /system and /recovery partition, to name a few. Also, secuflag controls whether zip files being flashed through recovery or fastboot, are signed by HTC.
The now notorious S-OFF (security off) will disable this NAND security.
Since we are unable to access the Radio NVRAM itself (where secuflag is stored), we turned our attention to HBOOT.
Click to collapse
For more informations about AlphaRev S-OFF, read the OFFICIAL Thread HERE.
There is many solutions to install S-OFF, this tutorial will show you few methods.
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK ! I'am not responsible of bricked phone, for more help try the OFFICIAL Thread.
PREREQUISITES :
a ROOTed HTC Desire ROM with debugging option enabled on it.
a computer running Windows XP/Vista/Seven (32 or 64 bits), Linux, or Emulation via WMware etc.
a computer which can boot USB devices (for USB method only)
a branded USB Key 32Mb or more (for USB method) or a CD to burn (for CD method).
EASIEST method so far seems to be now by "Revolutionary" method.
Please check this out before trying solutions below (they are manual and maybe outdated, because I don't have the time keep updated this topic, moreover I don't own anymore a HTC Desire).
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDES :
.: USB METHOD :.
Be sure to Nandroid backup your device from recovery (just in case).
Download the latest Universal USB Installer or UnetBootin.
Download ISO Reflash Utility from AlphaRev website.
Install the software of your choice.
Open it, and select your USB device and your AlphaRev ISO freshly downloaded.
Create your bootable USB key.
Reboot your computer and boot on the USB key you freshly created.
Press any key to accept the disclamer.
Once you are in your ROM, plug your Desire with the USB cable on your computer.
/!\ DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING TILL YOU GET THE FINISH MESSAGE AT STEP 3 /!\
(Some users reports it can take over 1 hour. Passed this time, pull out the battery and reboot your phone).
The USB key method worked 100% for me, I personally installed my S-OFF exactly like that on my Desire.
.: CD METHOD :. (by jshields)

.: VirtualBox METHOD :. (by Stewge)
Clic HERE
.: VMWare METHOD :. (by -V-O-Y-A-G-E-R-)
Clic HERE
Congratulations ! you are done !
Note : If for some unknown reasons you cannot access your Recovery anymore, it's normal, you must flash your Recovery using "fastboot" (SDK Android Kit must be installed on your running computer).
You have the choice between flashing a custom recovery like ClockWork one or put the original one but I sugger you the custom one which gives you much many more features
How to flash your recovery using ClockWork's image :
Download Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 recovery image from official AlphaRev thread for bravo.
Move the file into "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" (default sdk android folder's installation).
Verify MD5 checksum of the image with a freeware like HashCalc or something (IMPORTANT !).
Go to the main menu of your AlphaRev HBOOT (turn on your device with return button pressed).
Go to "FASTBOOT" mode.
Go to your computer and open a new terminal (Administrator privileges required if Windows Vista or 7).
Enter exactly this (without ") : "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img".
Now you will have a ClockWork Recovery image installed and working
Note 2 : If your device freeze on boot logo, apply your Nandroid backup that your did before S-OFF.. that should do the trick.
If one day you want to S-ON your phone again, just reflash an original RUU rom !
Need supports ? all kind of questions must be posted on this thread directly. Be sure to read the whole thread (or at least 5 latest pages) before asking any question.

3.boot from CD eg. Hold F12 at boot
4.press the Legendary enter
TIPS connect USB when the CD has booted

oh don't forget to put in the first post for ppl who gets stuck at stage 3 (it happen to me) just to wait for about 30 minutes or more (don't know exactly how long, just for safety), and then pull out the battery and reboot the phone...
many ppl report it work....

I think I'm done with the flashing of the hboot from alpharev
But now my phone keeps rebooting to the fastboot screen.
I've tried removing the battery and rebooting again, reboot from fastboot, reboot from clockwork recovery... but i still cant boot up my rom.......
Anyone can shed me a light on what went wrong?
All options to apply S-off should be included, this is a 'how to', and this is not THE only way to do it, personally I found virtual box the easiest method for me. I just think that some other options should be made clear to people, maybe people that have used a different method could add their own ' how to' to this thread?
Great idea though to help people.

Maybe its a good thing to sum up the benefits on the first page, to stop these kind of questions and making it a 500 page topic where you cant find answers...
I know if you read the forum, or use google you can find all the info

My phone is rooted, and i have flashed roms and kernels with S-ON - So you guys really need to show more advantages to this than what has already been written..
Nobody is trying to sell you anything. Why don't you GTFO?

Getting Started
Choosing A Custom Hboot/Rom & The Difference Between Stock / Cm7 Hboot
TO USE CM7/++ HBOOTS U MUST BE S-0FF
What HBOOT/ROM version do I need?
CM7 hboot can only be used with cm7/++ ONLY.
# Cm7/++ Hboot has 130 mb for system 5 mb for cache & 302 mb for data which in short means u get more space on internal memory and can sometime inprove the device
#Cm7/++ advantage version that dalvik and the rest of OS are running from nand, hence good ROM speed. cache / data can be moved manually with command in POST 2
Stock HBOOT can be used with both a2sd and x-a2sd(you HAVE to be s o-ff to use x-a2sd) versions.
# Bravo stock Hboot has 250mb for system 40mb for cache & 147mb for data which in short term means u get less space on internal memory and can sometime slow the device down
# a2sd Disadvantage: dalvik moved to sd-ext, hence user can experience some lag.
# a2sd Advantage: no need to s-off, straight flash.
# x-a2sd Disadvantage: HAVE to be s-off
# x-a2ssd Advantage: dalvik can be moved back to internal memory and you will still have reasonable amount of memory space left.
You CAN'T mix and match cm7/stock hboot/roms.

# Installing / Getting Swype To Work
1. Uninstall swype and swype installer
2. Use your beta invite to re- download the installer, chose desired version and install.
3. Once installed go through all the steps installer wants you to.
4. Once all is done, click "generate license" - most likely it will retool you swype isn't licensed.
5. Do as asked by the app to generate a valid license.
6. when done correctly, you'll be back on the sign in screen. (i tried to sign in, but it wouldn't work)
7. Hit the back soft key, and launch the installer again.
8. Follow instructions, you should have working swype.
9. Enjoy.
Alternatively, you can skip the whole uninstall/install process and start from step 4. (i haven't tested if this works, can someone confirm, this will save time too

Make your mod with UOT Kitchen, download zip, open it, extract files (SystemUI, framework...) and manually push in recovery (mount system, data...) in right location of your rom. Location could be different depends what version do you use.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to do this - I've found it very helpful as a noob...
Great work man Robo is busy lately to answer all the questions on his thread!
If you need any help in any way I'm so ready for that
One question though, if I'm running something like RCMix S v1.4 A2SD for CM7 HBoot (s-off) - do I need to do the "move cache 2 sd", "move data 2 sd" part? I might be getting confused between ++ and A2SD.
You should also include that the radio needs to be updated to the latest, Flashing RIL if someone has problems with connections.

There are a few fixes, ans some of them work for some people but don't for other.
I think one with most successful rate is rollback radio then flash latest one again.

@daddyspud
Just tried to send a PM to you about this but couldn't send one to you!
Maybe a link to Android Flasher and or Fast boot Commander
Both very easy GUI tools to flash hboot/radio/recovery etc via Fastboot
If people want to change any of those then if they actually went to those threads D/L the tools and posted questions about changing hboot/radio/recovery there instead of in a rom thread it would help
Also maybe links to the stickies at the top of the forum they cover more or less everything
Hi
A little advice for those without flash wipe.
After the flash, use "Cache Cleaner NG" available on the Market, clear the cache every Apllication. It avoids a lot of FC.
And think about a fix permission with Rom manager.
I think these two points fixes many problems.

[HowTo] Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy W (I8150)

For the record, rooting causes a violation of the garantuee policy of Samsung. Furthermore there is a possibility of demaging the Android-system(bricking). This has not happend as far as I know, but it should be mentioned. As advanced user it is usually always possible to recover the system, but still, just to let you know.
So whoever takes the risk, takes the responsibility
Advice: Use a PC without any drivers or software from other Android devices, this may causes conflicts with the drivers in the ADB.
Rooting
Rooting via Recovery mode(SD card)
Note: This instructions is written for the stock recovery. It has been reported that custom recoverys are causing problems during rooting. If you use a custom recovery which causes problems, please flash the stock recovery via ODIN first(scroll down to Other). Than apply the rooting
1. Download this Zip-file copy this into the internal SD card.
2. While switched off, keep the following buttons pressed. Release the power-button once the Samsung Galaxy W(I8150) is switched on.

As soon as you see the Android with the box, release the Home- and Volume Up-button.
After you hit the menu-button shown on the last image, the screen will gray out, you will have to wait until the recovery menu appears.
3. Navigate with the volume up and down to apply sdcard:update.zip in Recovery Menu. To confirm your selection use the home-button.
4. Choose (with volume buttons) the update.zip file on your internal sd card and confirm again with Home-button. You will have to wait 5 seconds.
5. Now choose reboot system now and confirm with home button.
Now you device should be rooted.

EDIT: Rooting via Recovery works.
BTW: Have you tried the manual method ?

The provided instruction does not work on LA2 firmware. You still can get root from Recovery-Mode using update.zip with busybox, su and etc.
The root instruction is almost the same as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253707.
I have used attahed files to get root. Thanks Dronson from 4pda for the provided files.

Hi, thanks for this!!
Just to be clear, can this method be used with Custom RZRecovery, or only with Stock Recovery?
Also, has anyone tried the Root tool contained in the RZRecovery Plugins package:
http://rzdroid.com/ftp/recovery/gingerbread/plugins/RZR-plugins-bundle-update.zip
PLUGINS
This bundle contains 4 plugins:
Disable/enable Dalvik bytecode verification in Android
Disable OTA downloads in Android
Fix Permissions
Root the installed ROM
After installing this update, there will be a new menu in Extras called Plugins.

I tested the Rooting via Recovery and it works like a charm. I managed to root the latest firmware (XXLA2) that was unrootable with Doomlord or manual method.

Hi fender.....
were you answering my question, just above, about rooting with the RZRecovery, or did you use the Stock Samsung Recovery?
Thanx in Advance

I rooted using Stock Samsung Recovery, and I'm sure RZRecovery could do the same

AFAIK, XME 2.3.6 can be rooted ONLY via Recovery Mode, thus use that method
I rooted my HH about 10 hours ago using that method

My SGW comes with 2.3.5. Will the above rooting work ?
Also, which method out of the 2 is the best to use, for flashing future ROMs and kernels etc.
How to update from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 ?

First do the Update via Over The Air(search for it) or Samsung Kies.
After successfully updating use the first method rooting via recovery. This works for now and could work in future.

Just installed Kies.
Someone recommended that i use Odin instead of Kies for upgrading from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 ?
Would there be a problem if i upgrade my stock 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 via Kies instead of Odin for rooting and then flashing of future roms ?
i just bought Galaxy W with 2.3.6 already installed. ive tried many ways to root this device but no luck (

So guysu just got a new HTC One V which is running on the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich version and so if you want you can root it using the following Step-By-Step Article. Rooting allows you to expand the functionality of your phone and lets you do more things on your phone than before. like custom roms ,kernel ( which increases performance and battery both..),or u could just do it to install your wanted or fav root app from the play store
following things
You Must Know:
* *As long as your phone is rooted will warranty will be void.
* *Proceed at your own risk and ensure you backup your device before hand so that anything happen you won't have a new paperweight. Because i dont take any responsibility for any loss of data or if u brick ur device..
soo-
You're Going To Need:
* *A HTC One V
* *USB Cable (Same one that came with the phone)
* *Make sure your HTC One V have at least 50% of battery life.
* *Windows PC, Mac OS, or Linux (only need one)
* *You are going need your HTC One V’s bootloader unlocked. (You can do that with the link below You're Going To Need: (Read Article Before Downloading)
http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter
* *Superboot Image
* *HTC One V bootloader unlockedStep-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Unzip files from the Superboot rar file and put them on your Desktop for easy access.
Step 2: Turn OFF your HTC One V.
Step 3: Boot up your HTC One V into the bootloader mode. To do that, press and hold Volume DOWN key --> then press the Power Key.
Step 4: When you have entered the bootloader mode, connect your HTC One V to your PC using the USB cable. (Same one that came with it)
Step 5: select all other supported models (complete bootloader unlocking from the site listed above
once done come back here again
soo now i hope ur done with bootloader unlock process ..proceed below
A) Windows Only: If you are using a Windows PC, run the install-superboot-windows.bat file by double-clicking on it.
B) Mac OS Only: If you are running Mac OS, then open a Terminal Window at the place where you have put extracted files, it should be Desktop. Type the following commands in the Terminal:
chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh
./install-superboot-mac.sh
C) Linux Only: If you are having Linux as your OS, then open a Terminal where the extracted files exist and type in the following commands:
chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh
./install-superboot-linux.sh
Step 6: It will take a few seconds to root youe HTC One V. When it’s done, disconnect your phone from the Windows, Mac, or Linux.
And That's All, you now have a rooted HTC One V.
ENJOY!!

ok WAIT i pressed the power button to restart my phone and the CMD proceeded and my one v updated - said something about this build is designed for HTC only do not distribute and then i had to hard reset my phone because it stayed stuck at that screen then my phone restarted normally .
i ran root checker basic but it says that my phone is not rooted , i also ran terminal and it is showing a $ rather than a # sign and if i did my homework correctly i should see # if my phone is properly rooted ?
i also tried typing SU and i get an error under terminal - sh: SU: not found .
please advise .
thank you .
