Windows Icons for Card & Phone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So, totally recognizing this is nit-picky and really more of a Windows question than an Android question, here's what I'm struggling to figure out.
When I connect my Sprint Galaxy S3 to my Windows 7 PC it shows up under My Computer as a Portable Device. I have changed that icon to look like an S3 by editing the registry (per instructions here). However, when I open it, I see two "drives" named Card and Phone respectively (see screenshot here). The problem is that both drives have the same icon (of a hard drive). I'd like to be able to choose an .ico file so that I can visually differentiate the two. Anyone know how to do this?
I have tried the traditional autorun.inf and .ico file in the root of the drive. But, those go unnoticed as they technically aren't drives (at least not according to Windows 7). Really any ideas at all would be welcome. Thanks!

File explorer not working

It just does the spinning colors thing. Anyway to reinstall or something?
Let me guess, you navigated to the windows directory of your device? It's not broken. It's just slow. Wait for it to finish.
I would suggest using another file explorer if you need to frequently visit your windows directory. I personally use Resco Explorer. Another popular one is TotalCommander.
It takes fooorever for the windows folder to display. Just something to get used to I guess. I wonder if it is possible to setup shortcuts to folders?
A known issue and not just for the \Windows directory. Explorer on this phone is slow to the point of being useless. Nobody has been able to figure out why. Like others, I use Resco and it works as expected and needed. I would assume there are other 3rd party file explorers that work equally as well.
recently i had to delete a few (almost everything) things from my storage card/program files and storage card/downloads files because of a similar problem. on average i waited 40 seconds to access my storage card, 27 seconds to access downloads and 23 seconds to access program files. i did not isolate the problem only got rid fo it. (sorry guys) i do not think it was a virus. possible corrupt file. although i believe we are speaking of two different issues this might be useful to others still. p.s. my device/ windows has as far as i know always taken a while to get into using file explorer. magician wizard Kaiser rhodium.
Well i guess im an impatient person then. But if I wait my screen will timeout. Illl try to look for recueo or what ever that was. Also just a quick question regarding installing app like that. Should I look for it on the marketplace or just find and then import that cab onto the phone?
Just search this site for Total Commander. It works like a dream.

*.PNG files

Hello,
I have on my SGS a newspaper application,so i can read my local newspaper every day on my android. Very nice...
But because is easier to read on big monitor, i was wondering if is possible to read this in windows 7 pc?
So i copy the folder that was on my android sdcard(inside the newspaper application) on windows7 pc, but is impossible for me to read it in one peace, like on android.
Here i have a lot of *.png files and each image is a part of some big image(the regular newspaper page is cut in multiple *.png image files).
I cant found some software to open it and read completely.
Can somebody help me?
Thank you
Kikan
You would be far better off downloading a Windows application for reading newspapers or using Google Reader, since not only is the app you are talking about designed to run on a totally different OS, it is also formatted for a much smaller screen.
If all else fails, just go to your local newspaper's website on any standard browser...I imagine the reading experience will be much the same.
thank you for your answer...
I know all of that, but the apps for android, give me gratis all newspaper,
local newspaper's website give me only basic pages....
And if i'm outside my country, local newspaper's website will not work.
I'm leaving in one country and working in another, so when i drive to work, my apps can download all newspaper and after i can read it outside my country on SGS , and i will prefer to read it on windows pc with bigger screen...
Is there an emulator for android for windows ...::)))
thanks
kikan

[Q] A couple of questions about the new Nexus...

Good day people!
Frickin lovin the new Nexus, and after rooting and flashing clockwork and the updated image including the volume fix (I never experienced that btw) I've got it running almost perfect. A couple of minor tweaks would really make this device shine for me.
1) I can't get MTP support to work on my home PC. I've got a "modded" version of Windows XP pro SP3 but WMP11 just doesn't see my device with or without debugging. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the PC not the phone as when I put it in CTP it works fine. So my question is: Is there a wifi based file transfer app that "supports folder management"? As when I used wifi file transfer I find it a right ballache to organise my music.
2) I used to run the Nexus S with NSCollab which took a lot from Cyanogen, namely the superb notification bar power settings i.e. wifi, 2g/3g, brightness etc. Is there an app out there that does the same thing or does it have to be baked into the ROM? I like the link to the settings on the bar but it'd be great to have more customisation on this.
Many thanks for your input and sorry if this has been covered. I know there's a thread on MTP but as my MTP issue is with my PC and not the phone I didn't feel like it was relevant.

Try using dropbox. It's more cloud based than file transfer but in the end it winds up with the same result (your files available on your pc). Dropbox has a client that installs on your PC so that your cloud storage shows up like any other folder would. Then install dropbox on your phone and upload from the phone and you will see it show up in the folder on your computer.
Good day!
Regarding your first question - a good app that I have used for a while is WiFi File Explorer (there is a Pro and a free version). It is a very good app - quite simple but it does let you organise the folders on you phone from the PC. There is also a free app called AirDroid which is supposed to very extremely immpressive. I have downloaded it but not yet tried it. But it provides a desktop like interface on which you can view your phones contents - supposed to be great.
For your second question - I think you may have to wait for more ROMs to come out before you can get this feature! I'm looking forward to it - suprised it wasn't integrated into ICS as standard tbh.

Hey there,
Downloaded Airdroid and it looks great. Can't test it properly yet as my work desktop isn't on the WiFey. From the looks of the screenshots it has proper folder management options which is exactly what I was looking for. The problem with wifi file explorer for me is that it's heavily HTML-based so no drag and drop functionality... will let you know how it goes. Cheers for that.

I do use dropbox and yeah it's a pretty quick way of getting the files to my phone but then they're all sat in the dropbox directory which isn't ideal. Can't complain for free tho right!

Accessing a generic brand tablet's root

I have a Thalia TouchMe (not surprised if you've never heard of it) which runs its own OS. I'd love to be able to flash it with Android, but at the very least be able to play around with it's system files, ie change the front-end layout, icons and such. When you plug it into a PC, you get a superficial root folder where you can put your personal files, but I'd like to go deeper. There's also a microSD slot.
Any help with this/ pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

[Q] I want someone to do something easy

I have a Nexus 10 and I am tired of android and I'm going to sell it and get a windows RT tablet (probably the just anounced Nokia 2520). The only things I do with my tablet is download comics from my computer (*.cbr files) and then put them on my tablet and read them and also internet browsing. Can I do these things with a windows RT tablet? Is there a file manager to put the files to the tablet from the PC? Is there a comic book reader app? How smoothly does it show the pages changing in a comic book? If someone could help me with this I would be really greatful.

There are a couple of CBR readers in the store and yes there is a full file manager in Windows RT. It is pretty similar to windows 8 in that regard. I would actually suggest though that you sync the files from your PC to SkyDrive and then Sync them down to RT.
When you with skydrive can you select the exact folder you want to put the files in the tablet?
You cannot connect a windows RT tablet to a PC directly with a USB cable as with android tablets. But windows RT is a near full port of windows 8. So you get the regular windows 8 file browser, regular internet explorer file download abilities. Skydrive can sync your files as already mentioned. Or a simple USB memory stick plugged into your PC, copy files onto it, plug it into your RT, copy files off of it. And network file servers work too.

No if you go for the Surface 2.
I had a surface rt, note 10.1 and a xoom and i love reading comics, but to be honest i like more reading on a android
Android - perfect viewer
Surface rt - CBReader (i test all cbr readers and this one is the best)
Both work preatty good but on android is so much better. On android the autozoom and two fingers zoom is flawless in metro is some pain in the ass sometimes

Oh, in Dell XPS10 manual that was said to be possible, but was not working in real. I thought that's engineering fail in Dell, but really - other RT devices also can't be connected via USB? Even some RNDIS and ActiveSync (from WM) like behavior would be nice here...

No, the microUSB is charging only and on most tablets also USB host (use one of the old android USB OTG adaptors). Windows RT is almost a direct port of windows 8 to ARM. Windows does not support acting as a USB device, only USB host is supported. Windows NT (the kernel, or the very bottom layer of the operating system) does support USB device mode as windows phone 8 also uses the NT kernel and can be USB device, in theory they could have added a USB device mode driver to windows 8 but they didnt.
Instead though you can use a memory stick because well, its windows, or if you share a network drive from your main machine you can view it on the tablet, FTP clients are available too if you put an FTP server on your main system. Skydrive synchronisation, dropbox app, google drive in browser. Lots of ways of moving files.
Adding USB device mode would be a nice touch on their part though....
Alot of x86 chipsets don't support it though so on x86 tablets the cost factor of adding an external USB device mode chip may be a factor.
Well if your going for a lower price the $349 Asus t100 is also a good choice it runs complete windows 8.1 and comes with Microsoft office for free. The battery life is around 11 hour use and it comes with a free keyboard dock. You can run any x86 windows legacy applications on this device.

Windows explorer is far better than any android file manager I have come across. Internet explorer as a windows web browser may not be the best but massively exceeds any mobile browser I have ever come across.
Any incase you didn't notice. He said he was tired of android.

YEs, I realised he is, but I've seen SO MANY people complaining that there's no file manager or can't do 'this' or 'that', that I have to ask.
