[Q]Does the Microsoft Store sell the lumia 900? - Nokia Lumia 900

Hey so I have a $1000 MS store gift card and i want to buy a lumia 920 (in november or whenever it comes out)...but i need it with no contract. Does anyone know if the microsoft store sells no contract phones?
Thanks!

Yes and no, it looks like for the Lumina 900 they are still referring you to AT&T, but you can still pick up an unlocked Lumina 800,
http://www.microsoft.com/windowspho...oft.com/windowsphone/en-US/buy/7/default.aspx
Of course, if you don't want it, I'll that the store credit, that or you could wait for the Surface or buy a Signature PC.

Yes, they sell all of the phones they have no-contract. I have purchsed several there over the years.
In fact in some cases they are selling no-contract phones when the carriers won't. When the 900 first came out the AT&T store would NOT sell me an off-contract phone but the MS store did.
Note that no-contract *does not* mean unlocked. Any no-contract phone they sell will still be locked, unless specifically advertised otherwise (example: Lumia 800 they were selling).

Lumia 900 already in stores?? (AT&T)

2 weeks away now. Some of you may have heard...
http://wmpoweruser.com/nokia-lumia-900-already-in-att-stores-just-waiting-for-launch/
So black in cyan may be the immediate options.. Was really hoping to find the white as well. Someone mentioned there will be no matte white for the 900, only the glossy white. Is this true?
I called some stores in the Columbus, OH area. They said no demo's or product to speak of but to check back this Sunday.
I also read Glossy White, and have not heard about Matte White as for color options.
I stopped in my local ATT store today and got to play around with one I asked if there was any chance they had a nokia lumia 900 around to look at and there was a weird silence and first reply of, it will be available in April...so I say thanks, turn around and begin to play with a note. about 30 secs later the nice rep comes over with a cyan blue, fully operational 900 in hand and said that he just got the ok to show me. so all in all, pretty cool experience. being there is little disparity in windows devices, I was primarily concerned with the build quality, screen, and camera. All of which seemed very nice. Still wasn't enough to sell me though...it's just too far behind the times in technology to warrant a upgrade at this point. I think I will wait for the HTC One X...

Everyone in my market (at&t employee) has the Lumia 900... even though the launch is a couple of weeks away... Nokia has made a big deal about this device... I like WP however I am missing my Galaxy Note... I will carry the Lumia until further notice and I will enjoy it!

Don't be surprised that all AT&T stores and employees have them in hand before official launch....
In the USA the AT&T employees get them for free !

If anyone is reading this from Buffalo area, let us Canadians know which AT&T stores have lots of stock. Rogers here in Canada is only allowing reservations if you currently have a data plan or want to sign up on a data plan. There are lots of us that want to buy off contract since we are on plans with other carriers. We will be the last on the list with Rogers. Maybe AT&T stores can let us know so we can buy them there and they'll sell a ton of them.
Does anybody know if 900 uses regular sized SIM or micro SIM?
If it's anything like the 800, then it's micro-sim inserted at the top of the phone. Nothing a sim cutter can't solve. Most cell phone shops have them and can be ordered on Amazon or Ebay if you prefer to do the cutting yourself.

I know that 800 uses micro SIM but was hoping that since 900 is larger it would accomodate a regular sized SIM. Dont feel like fumbling with adapters when swapping SIM's.

Again, why? Just get an adapter. Problem solved.
No need to buy an adapter.... just use the portion of the sim card that gets cut away. That's what I do ! Not that I'm swaping phones much anymore. I like my Lumia 710 and once I have 900, it will be my only phone. My backup phone stuffed in a drawer will have the remaining piece of sim card that was cut away so I know where it is and ready for me to pop in the micro sim if I have to use that phone.
I wishfully guess next weekend not April 8th-9th will be the release time frame. Huffington Post reporting the 9th not the day. My local rep still claims to not have a clue about the Lumia 900. They told me to call back today.

Yes... many unlock companies out there. Unlocked my Lumia 710 with no issue. However, point taken... it may be a couple weeks before unlocking is possble and at a reasonable price. I paid $7 to unlock the Lumia 710 but yet a Samsung C414 clamshell phone cost $30 to unlock. Go figure.. the cheaper phone was way more expensive to unlock.
I would still like a Nokia Lumia 900 in Cyan whether it be an AT&T phone or Rogers. Looks like the Cyan is only in the USA.
It sucks that I cant preorder the phone because I want no commitment. What difference does it make
Will the Cyan be in stores for demo before preorder ends? I'm interested in the Cyan but every pic on the web looks like a different color. I'd like to see it in person before I commit.

I had not seen the multiple shades of blue until yesterday, when they showed in the new set of pics on the Nokia site. I agree, I'd like to see the offering in person. I heard that some stores have both on demo, but most only black.

The only logical answer would be they let you upgrade early. Four months after I got my Samsung Focus on the original launch day 11/8/10 I was offered early upgrade to iPhone. I would think that they will let you upgrade early for their flagship device.
Also, I read some where else, (Can't find atm) that an At$t rep told someone there would be early upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 900.

[Q] Lumia 900 Unlocked Price?

I've read that the Nokia Lumia 900 is supposed to be $450 unlocked, but does anyone know where I'd have to buy it from to get it for that price? Everywhere I look, they have it listed as $200-300 more than the MSRP. From that, I'm assuming that by "unlocked," they really meant "off-contract," because I'm pretty sure AT&T is selling it for either $450, but they'll definitely keep you locked in to their service.
I figured if anyone knows, it'll be the fantastic folks of XDA. If I have to, I'll just buy the AT&T version, but Paul Thurrott from www.winsupersite.com told me that unlocked, unbranded phones are supposed to get updates directly from Microsoft, so if possible, I want to buy it completely unlocked.
I'm currently aiming to buy it from Expansys, but they don't have a price listed yet. I've heard good things about Expansys, but if they have it ridiculously marked up, do you guys think Microsoft Stores will be selling unbranded versions? I'd bet anything they'll sell for the $450 that was announced.
EDIT: Also! Do I need a new SIM to use 4G, or can I just cut my current SIM down to size and activate 4G on the AT&T site?
I've heard from others it will eventually show up on the MS store unlocked/unbranded. No idea when though.
I'm also looking for the same thing except in Canada it's a bit of a tougher find a place that ships here. So far, like you said they are all a few hundred more. Def not worth the price just for unbranding.
If MS is going to sell 900 the same way as 800 its going to be a pain. Right now you can only buy 800 as a part of the bundle. Those extras are nice but I really want the phone only.
I think a price of $450, unlocked, is not correct. No commitment, yes. Unlocked, no...not at least until the rest of the world gets it.
AT&T has an exclusive window. I believe the iPad launch ate into that window. You should be able to see more launches, and more variants near the end of April , into May. There is even speculation that T-Mobile will see the 900 sometime after June.
But unlocked , no commit, for $450. Not thinking so....yet.
Thanks for the input, guys. I'm not buying the phone until April 30th anyway, so hopefully by then, the unlocked models will be available.
On a side note, I just went in to an AT&T store and they let me play with a Cyan Lumia 900, it feels soooo awesome. Only issue I had with the Cyan is that the SIM door is black, not Cyan.
Also, they answered my question about the 4G SIM, I need to get a new SIM with 4G.
450 price is no contract but not unlocked. It will still be locked to AT&T, but you get unlock code from eBay. And Microsoft store is not going to sell them unlocked in the future as well. The only reason they are selling the 800 unlocked is because it is not available thru any carriers in the US. They won't go against the US carriers and sell them unlocked in the US.
If you want unlocked out of the box check out websites like negrielectronics.com or expansys-usa.com.
I'm looking at Expansys, but the reason I want an unlocked phone isn't to use it on another carrier, I'm perfectly happy using it on AT&T. I want it unlocked because unlocked phones get updates directly from Microsoft.
Although, have you tried the unlock code form eBay thing? That sounds interesting, I wonder if it would work the way I want it to...

The phones with AT&T branding doesn't get updates directly from Microsoft even if they are unlocked. What you are looking is for unbranded Lumia 900 which is not available now. The only version available on April 8th is the AT&T branded version and even websites like NegriElectronic and expansys are selling the AT&T ones but with sim unlocked.

Thanks, that answers my question. Any idea when the international launch is? If it's not far off it might be worth waiting...I think the Rogers version is launching on the 8th as well, so maybe it is the 8th worldwide, with a US exclusive for AT&T, not worldwide.
Can someone explain early termination to me? Because surely I'm missing something here. Att charge 350 for cancelling early, so if I get the phone for free and sign up for the contract, then immediately cancell it, will I get the phone for 350?
I believe so, but I'm not sure. You'd have to pay for the first month and the activation fee, probably, and I'm not sure if they'd take the phone back or not. Activation is about $35, I think, and the lowest end plan is probably around $60, so that'd total around $445, plus tax, so you're probably just as well off to buy it off contract.
Ah, that's right. Activation fee and 1 month of service, forgot about those.

be careful in how you think about this. International release does not necessarily mean unlocked or unbranded. The Rodgers launch may mean a Rodgers bra ded and locked phone. I read that April 22nd is the international launch day, but the unlocked versions won't see a y light until at least May.
I may be wrong, but all I'm really saying is do not assume. Check the branding and locking before you buy.
Well if this is going to be the unlocked/unbranded price in the US, you can count me out: http://www.nstore.it/nokia-lumia-900-con-windows-phone.html
EDIT: That's roughly $800 USD.

Yea, but apparently the unbranded one will have HSUPA or whatever it is instead of LTE, so it looks like I'm stuck buying from AT&T. Oh well, XDA is usually good about getting updates out super fast, I'm running 8107 on my Focus, which is supposed to be at 7720.
Even these guys on eBay are nuts.. Selling the L900 for as low as $575 PLUS $50 shipping or as high as $800. Do they not know this phone is going off contract for $450??
I was willing to pay an extra $50 over the MSRP but not $150-$175..

If you wait a few weeks, you should see a difference. As long as AT&T is the only one selling anything, premium pricess will occur. By the end of the month, the unlocked versions will hit the market. Amazon and other sites will get it, and competition takes over. If you want it now, you pay, no pay= want it later.
Amazon is now selling ATT version for $499 (back ordered). So that is not unlocked right? If it's not unlocked, how hard is to get it unlocked?

No its not unlocked. Amazon might sell the unlocked versions, but they are pretty good about clearly lableing it as unlocked. Of course, you would notice right off by the higher price.

AT&T stores *WILL NOT* sell them off-contract for some initial period. I believe it's 90 days. I tried to buy a white one off-contract at 2 separate AT&T stores and was refused with that explanation. I called several others and was told the same thing.
You can, however, buy them off-contract at a Microsoft Store. Price is the same as what AT&T would charge: $449.

That's not entirely accurate, ATT&T stores does not want you to get a new Lumia without a contract but if you specify at the store that you want a "no commitment phone" they will sell it to you at $449.99 dlls. They will try to convince you to get a contract but they will sell it off-contract at the end.
How do I know?, I got mine last week and I do not have an AT&T contract.
Also if you want to get it online (this is for the people that can't go to the AT&T stores" you can get it at Amazon Wireless site for $499.99 dlls, just remember to select the "Replacement Phone" option.
Now... this is the bad part, there are no unlock codes yet for the AT&T Lumia 900... as of today of course.
Hope it helps.

this is not true. They can and do sell no contract, right now. I've seen at least 2 phones sold that way. Now, I understand each store may have discretion on how they sell the phones. But it's not written in stone.
Once they have an ample supply, they will sell the phone to anybody. For now, reserved for contract deals. More $$$ for the sales rep. Makes sense.

I bought mine off contract on launch day. I just told them that customer care said it would be fine if I bought it off contract. The sales guy checked with the manager and they sold it to me.
I bought mine from a Rogers store as well. Off contract in the first week they had them (2weeks ago). Cost was $525 + tax.
I bought mine from the local AT&T corporate store at the no contract price of $449 two weeks back without any problem. The stores are giving $100 worth of accessories free but only if you buy it on contract.

+1 to this. I bought it off a Rogers authorized dealer. Walked into the store, said I wanted to buy the 900 outright. $525 + tax and 10 minutes later, I had the phone in my hands. This was about 2 weeks after launch, at most.
I was buying a white one. No AT&T store in my area would sell one no-commitment.
