No data transferred when 3G tethering - HTC Wildfire S

I found USB tethering to my laptop with wifi works fine but 3G does not. With 3G tethering I can connect but no data is transferred.
Same problem with 3G hotspot - no data is transferred.
I have read this 3G tethering problem is common for certain devices, particularly with Sony.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas what the problem is?
In case relevant:
HTC Wildfire S A510b
Android 2.3.5
Virgin Mobile

just a thought - could this be caused by the APN settings?
The 3G internet works fine on the phone.

I tried my sim card in another phone and 3G tethering worked fine.
And I tried another sim card in my phone and 3G tethering didn't work.
So common factor is this phone.

You have a SIM card? Are you in the US?

I'm in Australia. (most countries use SIM cards)
But problem seems to be the phone, not the SIM card.

Well yes but in the US the phone is CDMA (no SIM), that is why I asked since you did not state what country.
With the US version Virgin disabled tethering on the phone, not sure if they did it there too.
Is your phone rooted? If so then you might could re-enable that function.

ah OK.
Phone is not rooted. I tried superoneclick but root failed.
That is very interesting some phones have tethering disabled.
Is there a way to check whether this is the case?

I know that hot spot is disabled in the build.prop but am not sure if that would also disable tethering. If you was rooted then you could copy you system folder so I could look at it to see.
Check with a local cell shop and see if they can unlock your cell with a XTC-Clip.

Phone is already unlocked, just not rooted.
HTC support said I needed to install HTC Sync on my computer to get 3G tethering working. Does that sound right?
I can't test because HTC Sync only supports Windows, which I don't have.

You might need the modem drivers for you OS to get the tethering to work. I will test this weekend to see since I never used tethering but have and do use hot-spot.

I experience the same problem for both 3G tethering and 3G hotspot - connects but no data transfer. And wifi tethering works, so I assumed it was not a driver problem.
Would it be worth trying a tethering app in case the problem is with the builtin software?

Can you copy you build.prop and pm it to me?

How would you recommend extracting the build.prop?
I understand it is located in /system/build.prop, but when mounting the phone on my computer this folder is not available.
I installed some build.prop editor apps where I can view particular properties, but they did not have a feature to copy the file elsewhere.

From your build.prop they did not set a disable flag for hot-spot or tether. The only other thing I can suggest is try a different Rom on you device, but backup your current one First.
You can try this:
Code:
adb shell
rm -r /data/local/tmp
ln -s /data/ /data/local/tmp
exit
adb reboot
adb shell
echo 'ro.tether.denied=false' > /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
Then try tethering again.

darn, that sounds complicated.
Thanks for checking the build.prop

I understand that adb process requires root.
I tried superoneclick, unlockroot, and unrevoked to try and root the device, but all failed.
Are there other options?

So this means that soon I will have "original" Android 2.2 with HTC Sense UI on my Hero ?
Like:
youtu.be/VycV_QfDc8w
If so, go go devs xD
Hmm, it's going to be interesting to see whether the dev's pick stuff from the Legend ROM and stick them in the already out Gratia ROM, or just do a fresh build.
Dear devs,
Now It's your time to shine! Make all the Hero owners proud of their forgotten phone!
whats taking so long its been at least 12 hours since it hit the net why is it not ported yet lol ;-)

I think this is 2.3.4 when you look at build.prop with a text editor and search for 2.3.4 it comes up twice.

[Q] Problem with GPS with android revolution HD

After i installed my ARHD on my DHD i have problems with GPS. It's not as accurate as it was with stock ROM, please help !
I've had my DHD for less than a year and also started getting gps issues (long time to fix, low accuracy, only 3 to 4 sats). After trying many roms and many software hacks (gps.conf to gps-status etc.) I started looking at hardware. I noticed that the connections in my gps-antenna cover were wearing out. I ordered a new gps-antenna and replaced it and now it works great again.
Check the post in my sig for a video how to change the gps-antenna (not my video)
we don't have the same problem, when i'm at home my gps shows that i'm in completely different city, but when i'm in the citymall for example it shows correctly...
GPS problem
Hi wrooney, you're not using Google maps 6.03 are you? Coz I had real problems with that and ARHD almost impossible to get a fix. They have updated maps to 6.10 now and that's working fine in my DHD with ARHD 6.31.
i have Maps version 6.0.1 and android revolution HD 6.3.1, now what should i do? somehow manually update maps?
Have you tried AGPS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252011
I've been getting upwards of 8 sats and consistency connecting and locking on very quickly. I don't "activate" my GPS until I'm outside or in my car. It seems that helps a ton. I always open up GPS Toolbox before I route as well, so it can download some daily data.
Because at home you can't get GPS
Except if you leave in a tent of course...
Your phone is using 3 localization info: Wifi, GPS and cell towers.
I had exactly the same problem with Celcom in MY.
At home, perfect cell localization.
But in my office I was 50km away.
Wrong configuration of the tower.
To be sure, activate only one of the 3 (WiFi, GPS or data). I think switch of wifi and data as I bet on tower pb. You can also modify this in 'localization config'
Edit: in China, sometime the phone says it's locked on GPS but it put me at more than 50km away.
To solve it I activate data before launching Maps.
As stated before, GPS Status is a good to tool to check the GPS lock. Don't mess to much with pseudo soft to improve GPS... for me it's bul**t.
Good config of gps.conf is enough.
i post them for you as an example. But you have to adapt it for your country, this one is for China.
my gps.conf (zipped for upload)
but you don't get my problem my gps was working perfectly until i installed ARHD
I get your problem... but are you sure you kept the exact same config after flash?
Before I flash a ROM I always replace gps.conf in the zip by the one I attached for ex. I do the same with Maps.apk.
Are you sure that the config of localisation has not been modified between your previous ROM and this one? Are you sure to use the same version of the soft you're using for GPS? Same config of A-GPS.
By flashing the ROM you didn't change the HW and the radio. So the GPS reception has to be the same, only the way data is used is different now.
And last but not least... I can be wrong also. It's just my ideas and problems I encountered.
i don't know how to change the gps.conf, but i would like to try upg maps to lates version first than trying other methods, do you know how can i do that?
Thanks man the GPS.config file fixed my GPS problem

Sorry.. to change gps.conf, just use rootexplorer (or equivalent) and replace the one you have in /system/etc/ (copy paste).
To upgrade maps is more tricky. On some ROM I can't... that's why I replace it before flashing (open the zip with 7zip and replace maps.apk in /system/apps/ with the one you want).
As I get use to it, I always replace these two files in a zip before flashing a rom (+delete apks I don't want, remove all ringtones and notif sounds...). It's easier to tune the zip than doing one by one on the phone.
i have the same problems with the RCMix3d Runny v4.0 i also used the patch of iBotPeaches but it dosen't work. i check the build.prop file and thereisn't anything about the gps, it's normal?
this is my build.prop file, it's normal? i need to write something?

Did you modify the conf in any way with your country and continent or did you leave it the way it was?

3g, Radio files and S-Off RL

I got this desire HD because my old mytouch 4g died. It came s-off and rooted. But I am unable to connect to 3g although I can connect to edge. But as you all know edge is really slow. So I tried flashing a radio. But it failed so I checked the boot loader and it had RL at the end of the s-off. So I am suspecting the RL. So does anyone by any chance know what the RL is and wat it stands for?? And how I can get rid of the RL so that it becomes s-off
??
Would be happy if someone could help me out.
Seems strange but everyone keeps complaining of GPS not working.. Well my works even on pacman ROM.

Okay this is just my guess so dont quote me on it but Im assuming RL = Radio Locked because when you have this shown in your HBOOT you cant flash a radio
Regardless of the definition im almost certain you want Eng S-Off if your trying to flash a radio via HBOOT. You could either use AAHK2 or depending on you HBOOT version you could look here which helped me gain Eng S-Off

Wow!! Thanks. But I have a problem. I Dont know weather I am having the telsus dhd or normal dhd.
The phone already had a custom ROM before I got it. So how do I check which type I have??
Thanks.

RL stands for relocked, also you can check that by going to about phone and checking software information, most rom devs change the build names and it shows you which one it is.
This is what is there.
I also flashed Eng-hboot today so the RL is gone but after flashing a radio from one the threads, there was still no 3g connection.
Can anyone give me a good radio??

Also I found a thread and and it said I should have super cid (11111). But when I checked my CIDNUM, mine was CWS__001. what does that mean?

Okay. I appreciate all you guys have done. But just a little heads up. When I go to settings-wireless settings-mobile network- network mode and select WCDMA ONLY, it automatically reverts back to either GSM,WCDMA or GSM ONLY. its like it doesn't want to stay on WCDMA ONLY and search for 3g network. I don't know if you get what I mean.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Hey. I think I have figured it out.
Okay so here is what I think is causing the problem. I happened to open the build.prop file. And there are many contradictions in it actually in dhd Roms.(comparing it to the build.prop from the mytouch 4g.)
First, the cid number on the build.prop is different from that of the phone.
Second, there is something that has to do with worldwide band and its setted to 0.
Third, the phones cid number is not in the supported cids in the build.prop
Fourth, some settings that have to do with data and 3g are setted differently. And those settings are under the RIL column.
So I am thinking those settings were made to suit those in USA and UK.
So if we were able to modify the build.prop, it might actually work
Here is the build.prop from my current Rom.

Help Needed ~ Lenovo Vibe Shot Z90-7 ~ How to set Band Priority

In short :
Lenovo Vibe Shot Z90-7
Current rom : S226 ( android 5.1) Pre-rooted
I need help setting band priority in Phone settings. I would like my phone to constantly look for LTE signal , only connect to 3g in brief periods when not finding LTE and reconnect to LTE as soon as found again.
The problem :
I have signal 2-3-sometimes 4 bars of LTE (2600mhz) however. once it drops for a second or two to Hspa it stays there and doesnt go back to lte. Resetting the modem to regain Lte doesnt always work, sometimes whole phone reboot is necessary. And since my carrier is LTE only (they rent 3g from other T-mobile) They dont like if im on 3g to much. And personally since i pay for 4g and have the signal. I would like to have it.
How i Got here :
I have started my long and unfruitful search after seeing that my internet kept dropping to 3g and staying there (untill i resetted modem)
Unknowingly i followed a guid, entered *#*#INFO#*#* > phone settings > set my phone to USA band. This kinda broke my phone since I live in Europe
Flashed Rom with Root (even bricked and unbricked it twice, but thats another story)
Then after long search i found another guide found here followed the guide and set my band to 46 (aka use all pretty sure thats also what it was like before) And now im pretty much back to where i started. With ofc lots of new learned information. But the same problem that i started with
So my choices are :
Enable all bands and let phone roam on 3g
Or what i did now : with adb shell and AT$QCBANDPREF command : enable all but channel : 9 (gsm 900) , 32 (lte 800) just in case it does work? , 33 (lte 2600) , 38 (wlan 2400)) So now my phone connects to LTE 90% of the time. But certain parts of the city i have no internet and ofc if i ever leave the city chance are high i wont have it there either. Neither are very good choices in my book. But for now i have the least worse one selected :/
*I tried to find Msl code to try to unlock lte bands with some guide. But no. As i understand correctly since its a snapdragon no msl and have to enable via adb fastboot?
*Tried to unlock bands guide found here But since phone doesn't have official root. Just pre-rooted (and cant find any real root) I cannot install the patch and thus QXDM /NV browser wont recognize my phone (everything stays greyed out) /
*And unfortunately the simple solution in androids settings - > mobiele networks - preffered network type : my only option with Lte is : LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto. Not that this matters since i also tried to downgrade to previous rom. and by miracle in previous rom i did have the option that stated 4g preferred. However, it still went back to hspa and stayed there. So no help there either
Im hoping im just thinking to deep and there is a simpler option. At the moment im thinking that maybe its because of the AT$QCBANDPREF command ? That i set the preferred network and soon as it finds one of the preferred network connections it connects and stays with it. (and thus not dropping 3g)
Edit : Build Prop : Im thinking there could be a good chance i can alter/add an option in my build prop to always make it look for a certain lte band? But im drawing a blank what that option would be.

What i would like in short
I hope it can be done with this AT$QC command? new to this, but i have adb shell and su acces and minor understanding of what i did so far. Basicly i just want to tell my phone :
preferend band = 2600 // If not found then (and only then) go to other band (900mhz 3g) And ofc preferred band meaning it will also switch back once signal is re-established.
Thanks for reading and hoping someone will be able to help me out. (p.s sorry if im in wrong section, there is no lenovo vibe z90 thread, only vibe p1 and wasnt sure to post there, and all other z90 treads are mostly about roms :/ )
