[Q] & [A]:Will GT fit in Keyboard or Multimedia Dock with Samsung Book Case Cover? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Accessories

[Q] & [A]:Will GT fit in Keyboard or Multimedia Dock with Samsung Book Case Cover?
For those of you interested.
I bought my SCH-i905 GT used and it came with the Belkin case. I never really liked the Belkin case as it added a lot of weight and girth to the Galaxy Tab. It also never fit correctly and made the button hard to access.
With the HHGregg deal, I purchased both the Samsung keyboard and Multimedia Dock. To use these devices the GT had to be removed from Belkin case, very annoying.
From all the reviews and videos I had watched, the best case for me seemed to be the Samsung Book Cover Case. But no one could answer my question:
[Q] Will GT fit in Keyboard or Multimedia Dock with Samsung Book Case Cover?
[A] Well I can finally answer this question myself. My wife got me this case for my Birthday and here are my findings. No you can not fit the GT device with the book case cover in either the KB or MM dock. Poor design planning on Samsung's part.
Fortunately, there is a simple work around for the Samsung KB. The device will fit with the cover if you pull out the device holder.
As far as the the MM dock, it think I'm going to cut it up with a dremel to get the GT to fit with the cover on. I'll update this thread if and when I get it done.

Thank you for posting this. I came searching with the exact same question because I want to buy the keyboard, but only if it fits with a case. It's a shame the Samsung keyboard does act more like the ASUS Transforme keyboard...
Looking forward to your update about the charging dock

Update #1 - Multimedia Dock
I started looking in doing the modification to the MM dock but found a much simpler solution. The portion of the MM dock that holds the device can be easily removed. With the cover folded over it stabilizes the Tab.

I think I found the perfect stand!

http://placewiz.com/Stand.php
Just got it set up with my GT 10.1. The beauty of the stand is the fact that I can have my Samsung Book Cover Case installed on the tab, have the charging cable plugged into the bottom of the tab, and have the tablet on the stand with the volume controls and 3.5 jack on the top. Almost every stand I have found did not have enough room for the connector to be installed while placed on the stand, but this one fixed that for me, at a grand total of $10 on ebay!

Galaxy Tab with stand, charging.
wow that is so awesome!
seems nice... how sturdy is it? did you try any other stands or was this the first one you got?
personally I dont need the ability to charge it while on the stand, so sturdiness is the name of the game for me, so i've been thinking about the Arkon but maybe this is even better... just curious if you tried the Arkon out also?
Regarding how sturdy it is... for me, it's perfectly fine. The problem I found is I keep my desk clean with pledge, which makes the surface too slippery and the stand itself doesn't have any way to grip. I think I will just stop down at the local hobby store and find some sort of rubber strip I can put on the feet of the stand to have it stop sliding. Besides that, I only get a minor wobble when tapping the screen, but only at the top, and only if I press abnormally hard. For $10 you can't beat it.
nice 10char
Just bought one.
That looks really nice.

I have the Arkon, it's very sturdy, very adjustable. It's made of some sort of hard plastic/polymer, with foam cushion layer on the bottom so it doesn't slide and where it touches the tablet. The only issue is the tablet sits too low for the charge connector in landscape mode.
lol, it is a rabbit

[Q] Folding smart case with secure closing cover?

I'm looking for a thin light attractive folding smart case for mt G10.1
Ive narrowed it down to 2 but I am open to others.
some of the things I am looking for..
Hard case back. and the ability to prop it at a slight angle for typing on a desktop or 45 ish degree for watching movies ect.
well protected edges
also the ability to prop it with the tablet upside down so i can use the Dock connecter for USB/Memory cards
the 2 that fit the bill are the Samsung hard case and the Ebay Smart covers.
I really Like the looks of the official Samsung case & the way it shuts securely though I am not sure how the areas it bends at will hold up over time, especially at the price they go for. It also doesn't seem like its very stable when propped up on a desk at a slight angle ( for typing )

The alternative are the Ebay smart covers with a hard back.
not really fond of the color schemes they come in but they arent bad. the price is good, I like the way it props up but I dont know if Ive seen any with a cover that shuts securely. Does anyone know of any ?
I have this one from Amazon and it has held up fine for the last 4 months...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PC7VG4/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
I don't know if it meets all your criteria, but the price is good, the quality is very good, and it works.
The ebay one doesn't, I have one and the cover just flaps around but at the price it is what would you expect? The covers magnetic for creating a triangle for upright viewing but doesn't hold itself against the screen when covering it.
Thanks. Mine just showed up today. fits nice and snug. all the cut outs are where needed. I like everything other than it not closing securely, but as you said for the $ its still a good deal.
Im sure I can come up with something. I just need to make sure it looks nice and not slopped on

Sturdy car mount for Galaxy S2, with Case mate tough and doesnt cover the camera

Hi Guys
I am really struggling to find what I am looking for and am hoping someone might be able to help me.
I have a Galaxy S2 that has an 2000mah extended battery installed and a Case Mate Tough case.
I am looking for a sturdy car mount that will allow me to leave the case on but also does not cover the camera lens.
Any suggestions?
(PS.. the reason I dont want to take the case off each time is that to get the extended battery to fit under the tough case you have to leave the phone back off or it doesnt fit.
No one had any suggestions at all?

Having used quite a few car mounts I found the Tetrax Xway by far the best. Takes absolutely no effort to put your phone onto the mount and you can also use it for any next phone / tablet that you buy. It's also extremely sturdy, yet easy to take out the phone.
Wanted to link to the product, but since I am a new user I cant.. Lots of stuff you can find on youtube though. Try the galaxy tab one if you really want to be convinced of its sturdyness
Only downside is that you have to stick something to the back of your phone(case). Hasn't really bothered me though, but some people are a little OCD on aesthetics.
Edit:
One thing I forgot to mention is that this mount is also very easy to remove and should fit in almost any car since it uses the car vents. Very easy to install + remove.
exomount here. had mine ages, no lack of grip, survives a car with 20year old suspenion (classic mini) driving over terrible pot holed roads (Wales...).
We even fitted it to my brother's Rallycross car for some in car footage.
There's a Garmin rubber Base that you could place upon the Car Tableau the good thing about it that the device won't shake and move a lot while driving

haven't used it, but looks interesting

Nexus S dock mod for GNex

I'm a long time lurker on XDA and appreciate all the work the developers have done on all the great ROMs. I recently dropped my SGS II and decided to replace it with a GSM Galaxy Nexus and must say I love it.
My son decided to use the damaged SGS II and no longer needed his Nexus S. I noticed the desktop dock he had looked close to the curvature of the GNex. The micro USB connector was about an 1/8" low and needed to move back about the same. I went to work on dis-assembling the dock to make the modifications. Below I have a few pics but I didn't document the actual mod process, if there are any questions let me know.
The back cover of the dock will pull off with work and there are a few screws holding everything together. Once these are removed the dock will pop apart at the seam on the front of the dock. Modding the micro USB is actually pretty easy. A larger opening will be needed to move the connection towards the back and top of the dock.
The GNex will fit in the dock without any other modifications but there will be a small gap between the dock and the phone on the connector side. I wanted a more factory look and decided to thin the plastic a little so the GNex would fit snuggly next to the dock with no gaps. I did this with a fin grit sand paper and a buffing wheel on a dremel tool.
These docks can be found as cheap as $5.00 on Amazon. I purchased this dock at Best Buy for $20.
Hope these help explain what I did.

Shot of how nicely the GNex fits in the dock.
You can see that the phone is charging in the dock.
Modded the opening for the micro USB connector.
A little more sanding and the dock would look factory.
These were taken with the phone while working on the dock.
The bracket at the top holds the micro USB connector in place. A few mods were needed to make it fit the GNex.
Nice!
i just ordered one of these docks from amazon for 7 bucks used. hopefully i can mod it successfully so i can dock my galaxy nexus like u did. very good job though modding it.
Edit: I screwed up my dock bad so it no longer works lol. Oh well. Now I know why I don't do stuff myself lol. Plus I didn't have the drill thing u had.

Hi,
does anyone know about car holder with charging for SGS4m?
Any car holder that charges via a Micro USB plug can charge our phone. Just make sure you get one which plugs in from the bottom, where the phone's port is.
Today my kit comes, and for now I very happy with all the components.

Galaxy S4 Mini Car Holder
FlexiShield case for Galaxy S4 Mini

It is absolutely hopeless, I need car dock with built in USB charging.... like this one:
http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=512526&pn=prod&brand=Samsung&model=Galaxy%20S4%20GT-I9505
Must wait until brodit release it for S4 mini, i am going to as them when it wil be available.
Update: I'v got an answer from Brodit and next week the holder wil be available!
Available: http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=512544&pn=prod&brand=Samsung&model=Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195
(I use Brodit holders for many years, high quality...)
Have you checked here?
http://www.mobilefun.com/33554/samsung/galaxy-s4-mini/car-holders.htm
I just use my S2 i9100 car holder. It was a slack fit but with a slight tweek to the release catch it's now a nice snug fit.
I also use my S2 desktop dock/ charger which is slightly slack without any mods but works fine.
I just received a proper S4 mini windscreen mount from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121159396152?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
It works fine and the phone fits perfectly without a case.
However because I use an igard case with mine I have continued to use the galaxy S2 mount which fits perfectly with the case on the phone.
I've also adapted the holder so it has Qi wireless charging built in.....see post 24 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415990&page=3
I ordered this one a while ago and I am really satisfied with it! I also have the specific mount for my car.
