Car mount that can accommodate USB on the side/middle of the phone? - General Accessories

I recently acquired a Pantech Burst that I plan to use as a GPS on my family vacation to Costa Rica. I had thought that I'd be able to use my universal car mount, but unfortunately the Burst has it's USB connector right on the middle side of the phone and the arms on the mount I have would interfere with my ability to charge the phone while in the mount. I've attached a couple of pictures with this post.
Does anybody know of a mount that might work with this phone?
Thanks!

Kensington's universal mount may work. I can plug in my incredible S while it's mounted, though I'd need to go measure the exact position of the side holes to see if it would work with the Burst's positioning.

[Q] car kit that can rotate to landscape

i have the universal car kit from verizon, and i got it mounted in front of one of my air vents so i can keep the phone cool. the only problem is that it doesn't rotate. has anyone seen a car kit that i can mount in front of the vents that can rotate from portrait to landscape?
this is the kit i have
http://assets1.htchaven.com/images/product_images/accessories/large/1744.jpg
Use the other mount that came with it (3m tape and ARM). Position it in front of a vent and that way it can turn sideways. It has a ball/lock collar that allows 180 rotation. I have the same one.

oh crap, i think i might've thrown it away, nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
theres an app that will auto rotate the screen check on the market

The Thunderbolt specific car dock has the ability to run in landscape or portrait. It also gives you the ability to charge while its docked. I hard-wired in my car dock so I dont have cables running all over. The picture actually shows it in portrait. So my .02c just pay the dough and get the verizon dock. LINK

2 one-hundredths of a cent? Haha but I'm thinking about getting that mount and hard-wiring myself. Then a tasker profile that when the phone is docked it turns WiFi off, GPS on, BT on, and opens Torque. Hmm...maybe a project for this week. Any tips for hard-wiring it? I'm sure I can do that.

Be great to find a charging car dock that works with a case, otterbox preferably

how does it charge while docked. does that mean i don't have to plug my car charger into it?
also, how would it work if i wanted to keep the phone in front of the vent because the only place in the car that i could mount that too is the window and i don't wanna go that route especailly livin in alabama. the highs don't get below 90 degrees, so my phone would be toast
wait a minute you can totally use that mount sideways, ive used it like it many times. loosen the nut on the back of mount and rotate.
I would recommend mounting in front of the vent that way your A/C will be cooling the phone. I've got mine mounted low but would vent mount it if I had to do it again.
I use the Spiderpodium for my TB in the car. Ultimate flexibility!

Yes, you will need to plug your car charger into it. There is a pass-thru port on the back of the dock.
In includes a sticky base part that is suction cup compatible; perhaps you could put that on your dash in a location that allows you to bend the arm down over the A/C vent? I have mine mounted in a more conveniently accessible dash location, but if I shifted it to another position I'm sure the arm could hold it over my vent.
Also, it's available on Amazon for slightly less than through Verizon

the official dock has a plug inthe back of it to put the carcharger into. It then puts a port in the bottom of where you place the phone where the charging port in to transfer the power from the input to the output. The thing is that although you can rotate the dock to any degree you want (vertical, horizontal) the phone itself does not actually enter a dock mode so you need to either keep it vertical or you need to have fun reading from the side besides when you use any app that will change to its horizontal mode (maps, navigation, internet, videos, night clock)
This kit is not too bad

wow that thing looks awesome! does it rotate though? if so i might have to get that for $11 from amazon.
I just bought the Macally Mcup car bracket. It won't suit everybody's needs, but it fits the bill perfectly for me. However it will NOT hold a T-Bolt in a case, only bare. But since I only use a silicone skin which slips off in a second, it's a non-issue for me. I also had to dremel a tiny notch in it so I could plug in the USB cable while it's in the dock. But the positioning of it is perfect for my car and me, and it rotates 360*. Cheap enough too at less than 20 bucks shipped from any number of places.

Any good car mounts yet?

Has anybody tried mounting their tab in their car? I'd like to mount mine on the center console and use it for navigation and music, but I haven't found any mounting solutions for my ZJ that I like. I'm hoping maybe the Broddit Proclip for the 10.1 isn't too far away.
I've seen the ones that bolt to the floor, but I don't think I'm really interested in something like that. Plus, they are expensive.
Anyway, those of you that have done this - let us know what you worked out, and give us a few pictures if you'd be so kind. I'm keen to get my tab mounted in my Jeep as well!
I use this one...
A word of caution is that, compared to a phone or a GPS, the Tab is relatively heavy. It tends to vibrate some at the end of the clip. But if you just stick the mount into a cup holder in the center console of your car you should be fine.
Anybody seen anything new? Not many options thus far
I've been keeping my eye out... but still haven't seen much either.
The 10.1 is a fairly large device to mount to a dash with something like a ProClip. I used a proclip center vent mount for my Garmin and it was great, but I could not imagine the GT sitting there like that.
As awesome and cool as it would be to have the GT mounted nicely on the dash it would block too many things on the dash. The type of vehicle you have will also be a huge factor, maybe you have one of those larger popup drawers that some cars have, maybe the GT can somehow be mounted in that spot.
I'm working on making a custom mount for my car, that will drop the tab over my radio and will look stock.
I modeled the radio and dash in Solidworks and am fabricating the custom mounts later today. I'll post pictures of the process and make a thread later this week.
If you can get me the specs of the radio, I may be able to make you a mount as well.
Since there are no custom car mounts for the 10.1 Tab yet, I bought this car mount from Ebay to use for a 2000+ mile road trip I'm taking next week:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310333108738&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2583wt_1037
While it is off course a plastic fantastic, non-custom car mount, I just tried it out in my Civic and found it to be quite decent actually. Very simple design and not too bulky at all, and seems fairly sturdy (of course, I wouldn't be surprised if it falls off the window at some point). I'll take some pictures later of it in action and post them in this thread.
For power, I used this dual USB car charger (one 2.1A and one 1A USB jacks to charge both my 10.1 Tab and my Evo 4G at the same time):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120693523948&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It won't charge the 10.1 Tab without this adapter though:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190522553195&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3085wt_1037
All together, I have a fairly nice setup for my 10.1 Tab and Evo 4G (with wireless hotspot to my Tab) that will hopefully work well during my trip next week.

Will that mount stick to the dash or glass only?

I'd like something like this. I don't want to mount my tab in the windshield or on the dash, it's way too big for that imho. But there is PLENTY of room on the center console of my Jeep to hold the tab. It has a 1.5 DIN mount there, so I've been wondering if I could figure something out with that extra half DIN that I had available.
As far as Broddit Proclips go, then already have mounts for the iPad and Xoom, so I don't think it would be much of an issue for the Galaxy Tab 101.1.
Any advice for a good mount for a convertible?
When i drove a Hummer, I would just put my netbook up on the dash and it never moved. Now that I've gone to retro thunderbird, I'm worried that due to the wind factor, it will fly out when I'm on the freeway. The cup holders are a bit back..... so something with a long stem on it might be ideal.
This is what the interiors look like.

I only tried it with glass since it didn't come with a plastic sticker circle, but I'm not sure it would be able to support the 10.1's weight from the dash.
anyone tried this mount yet? add the "HTTP.WWW"

If you have a folio type case you can use my "ultimate $2 car mounting solution" All you need is a 6' bungee cord, available at any Walmart/Target/hardware store for $2 or less. Guide the hooks from each end of the cord into vents on your dash, fold the flap of the case backwords and slide it between the cord and the dash. Presto! Not the prettiest set up, but dirt-cheap and actually works very well.
That looks great exactly what i was looking for. Please post pics when completed, would love to have one made for my car.

I'm using a Ram Mount for a Motorola Xoom as shown here:
http://www.ram-mount.com/NewProducts/motorolaxoommount/tabid/3871/Default.aspx
Fits fine, though I needed to file out the side of the mount slightly to fit the 3.5mm headphone jack in. Nothing 5 minutes with a round file couldn't handle.
Ram have a variety of ways to mount this to your car - I'm using this one:
http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogRes...45051049054045049045050051056085/Default.aspx
Because I need a nice solid setup for my 4x4.
I got a PadHoldr mount that has spacers to make it work with any tablet (Xoom, Galaxy, iPAd, whatever) and so far I really like it. It bolts underneath your dash and has an arm tha comes out. It covers up my radio controls so I could care less about that. Had this in there for months now going strong, has a foam pad on the back so it doesn't wobble around. Use this for Pandora/music videos/Google nav/Torque/everything. Highly recommended!!

Love the official car dock, need help extending mount length

So I have the official car dock:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECS-K1D9BEGSTA
And love the functionality of not having to plug in power or audio out all the time.
My only issue is that I want to be able to extend the arm length as it doesn't fit any where great in my car.
Has anyone seen a vent mount or extending arm accessory that is compatible with the official holster?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I'm sure I could get creative with a solution but didn't want to reinvent the wheel if there is something out there already.
Nice! Is that mount horizontal only, or can it rotate to hold the phone upright too?

It can fully rotate 360 degrees and pivot in any direction. The holster is attached to the arm via a ball and socket connection so you have virtually unlimited options of angle etc... and then you just turn a knob to 'lock in' the position you like. I definitely worship the dock, just need a longer arm : (
OK one other question....if you have a case on your phone, do you have to take it off to use the dock? It looks like you would.
I searched around to try and find a longer arm, and no luck

Thanks for trying to help.
You definitely can't use a case.
The fit is meant to be 'perfect' so it's easy to lock in your phone with the microusb plug so power and audio work.
I love it!!! but no case would work.
Unless you can find a way to mount the flat circle to a longer arm and suction to that there isn't a viable arm extension. I have looked also. My maxima gives a long reach to the dock to where I like the mount to sit.
I bought the infuse dock but instead of using the arm that came with it I bought a proclip center console mount for my car. Looks nice and works great although it was expensive. Attached the infuse dock to proclip car mount and a proclip swivel mount.
I have the Infuse mount which I'm guessing has the same design as yours. Anyway, I found that the vent clip mount that I've been using for my Galaxy Tab mates perfectly to the Infuse mount. I can't be positive but this looks like the same vent mechanism.
Looks like I'm not allowed to post links so search for "Black Car Air Vent Holder With Clip For Nokia " on ebay and you should find it for $3.34.

so, i have a meta question about this dock. it looks pretty cool, and it *might* work to put it vertically in the space in the center console of my '98 honda accord, hopefully putting it right at my fingertips. that part's a crap shoot however. what i don't understand though is the audio out jack. how the heck does that work?? the audio jack on the phone is at the top, but the audio jack on the dock is on the bottom next to the usb plug. i just don't get how they route the audio out there. this might be a stupid question.

The phone only needs to be plugged into the microusb port on the dock for both power and audio to be piped through. The actual headset jack on the phone is not used. So phone goes into dock (just microusb port) then the audio out on the dock will work.

The desk dock works the same way. Only USB plugs into the phone, but the audio jack on the back of the dock does route the sound to external speakers.

Also are these available at any local stores.. just hoping I could pick one up instead of ordering.. I checked the local Sprint store and they just have the universal mount kits. thanks for any info!

the dock that's specifically for the E4G includes a cig lighter power adapter, but the infuse version does not. i have power going to the infuse from cig lighter, then a standard audio cable going from the back of the dock to my car radio. works well. the volume level adjustment has to be done in software. i'm currently evaluating CarHome Ultra, which has configurations so that when you put the phone in the dock, it sets media volume to whatever you desire, then when you remove the phone from the dock, it reverts back to what it was.
---------- Post added at 11:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:00 AM ----------
one thing that kind of baffles me with the dock - when my phones in the dock, if i try to speak commands to it, it seems it can't hear me. the phone's microphone is covered by the adapter block you slide in to lock the phone and make usb connection. i have the infuse dock, but it looks identical to the E4G-specific dock.
does anyone else have trouble speaking commands when docked? it's frustrating, it makes it much less of a hands-free experience than what i was hoping for!

I ended up modding mine to fit the ProClip car mount I already had. Pics are in the original deal thread if you are interested.

Seems like most people use some form of case (thicker than the zagg)
Does anyone know of a dock like this samsung dock but able to fit a phone with a case? Alternatives (docks that work with a case) dont seem to connect automatically to the micro usb. Just wondering if anyone knows of something that will do both? Shouldn't this exist? am I way off?

Which car mount should I get?

I have a drop low car that if you go through train track it will bump you off your seat. So I need a car mount that will have the least vibration. Here are two I found on ebay. If any of you have purchase one or other please give a brief description of your experience.
1: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-GUN...070739?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3379e03c53
2: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Sam...163139?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a20d08603
ProClip. They have the most solid mount system I have ever used.
Sent from my SPH-L710
I pre-ordered two of these: iBolt Galaxy S III Charging Dock
For a completely vibration free driving experience the ROK Solid mount is included, featuring a strong 70 mm suction cup. Attach to windshield, or use the included disc to place on dashboard. A ball-joint connector system allows the driver to adjust to almost any viewing angle. The female ball connector is an “industry standard” 17 mm size, allowing any dash, vent or bike mount designed for Garmin to work with the cradle as an alternative to the suction mount.

+1 for ProClip. I find mine rock solid, and it is better located in my car than a suction cup or CD mount would be. The big con is that it's likely the most expensive mount on the market. Still, I'm glad I went with it.
I'm going to be going with the ProClip once I get my phone for both myself and my fiancee. It looks like it's great and will fit both of our cars. I still have my old suction cup mount that I've been using for a couple years now that I think would work well enough when I want to do dashcam stuff.
I just received my ProClip mount last week and it is quality as usual. I've had them for at least five different devices, so I knew what to expect. I got the one that is wired for power, very convenient.
Does the proclip offer a landscape mounting option?
I have just bought the Samsung car dock. While some may say its not a well built as say the proclip ones. My logic is, should the dock fail, i can at least say Samsung it was your dock that failed. The samsung dock seems very good tho and has performed well on the bad roads i have near me.
I got a universal mount from DX (SKU 81246 if the link does not work). It works well and was inexpensive. That being said, I had the Samsung mount for my Fascinate which would put the phone into car mount mode when you plugged it into the micro-USB which IMHO is superior to any of the universal mounts in many ways. Anybody know if Samsung will be releasing a mount like this for the S3?

I have the powered ProClip dock that plugs into the socket on my dash (not the one you have to wire in). Mine holds my phone tightly enough to use in landscape, and that is how I keep it. I slide the phone in and out from the right side, and it works great.
I am using the iOttie mount and it is perfect. Easy to setup and move if needed and the phone sits securely inside. You can do landscape or portrait mode for your phone.
Not a powered solution however.

works great and keeps the phone out of driving view while keeping it where the eyes can see it.

It is a tilt/swivel mount so you can have it either landscape or portrait. I keep mine in portrait but I have tried it landscape and it was still very solid.
iBOLT dock with car mode & integrated 9 ft cable...
Our iBOLT Dock (www.ibolt.co/ibpf-33307) works the same way as the old S2 car dock. It puts the phone into car mode (sVoice) but you can download the CarHome Ultra and this application will install itself as the default app opening when inserted into the Dock if you want. With CarHome you can drag and drop apps, short numbers or just about anything to your car home screen.
The dock also comes with a 9ft (yes, 2.7 meters!) long charging/aux-out cable. This allows you to place the Car Dock on the left side of the steering wheel and tuck the cable down the drivers door, under the carpet and up to the center console for USB charging and 3.5 aux-in. The home screen also turn horizontal. Look the video and see if this is an option... Feel free to contact us and ask questions.

Brodit-like car mount

I have searched and searched for several phones for a car mount that I can set my phone into, as in drop it in vertically so at least the bottom third is supported and it is held at a good (adjustable) viewing angle, the Brodit mounts look good but are badly advertised as to whether the allow for cases or not.
Now there is a new complication, a mount that accepts a wireless QI pad and a phone (Nexus 5) in a case - does anyone know of such a device or solution?
Thanks
