Time to upgrade from my S2, it's between Note 2 and S3! Help! - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Planning to upgrade from my Galaxy S2 (Sprint) here very soon. Contract is up and it's time. Now i'm pretty much on the fence between the Note 2 vs the S3 (US Market).
I'm guessing the S3 due to the popularity of it, will have a better or more substantial community support with roms, kernels, and themes etc.
The more media I watch and read about the Note 2, the more blown away I am with it. My only concern is the shear size of the beast. I went to the store recently and looked at the Note 1 and that thing is huge, is the Note 2's size the same, but just with a bigger screen? Or did they have to increase the screen size of the actual phone to accommodate it? How does the Note 2 feel in your pocket? I don't use my S2 much for phone calls, it's mostly my media hub. When I do use it, it's mostly via bluetooth. The S3 seems like a great size, but i'm dissapointed with the lack of a quadcore like the non-US markets. The Note 2 will be the first quadcore phone in the states, so I'm very interested in it. Anyone that upgraded from a smaller phone S2-S3, how did you find the transition of size? Does it feel uncomfortable to hold in one hand? Is two hands always necessary? Thanks!

If you're a media freak, the obvious choice is Note 2. Nothing beats a quad core and 2GB RAM.
The S3 has already been out for a half year, and by getting the Note 2, you future proof it just a little bit more than the S3.
Also, the Note 1 feel is not the same as the Note 2. The Note 2 is slimmer, and more "wrap"-friendly than the Note 1. There's a big difference in the feel of the Note 1 and 2.

Thanks for that. I was worried it was going to be thicker but good to know it's actually thinner!

Obviously Note 2.
No Comparison

If you can handle the size no question the Note 2 is the way to go.
Yesterday, on its first full charge I got this screen-on time with 18hrs on battery:

Honestly...the GSIII feels really good when you hold it like it was made just for your hand...so I'm interested to see how the GNote II feels..
Why don't you wait for Black Friday? The GSIII is only $50 on contract that day only.

I own both, given a choice right now get the note 2 unless the size really bothers you, it is a much better device.

They have narrowed the note 2 from note 1 for a reason....so it is MUCH easier to hold in the hand!!!!!

Who is upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus?

Hi,
just wondered who is upgrading your Nexus S to the Nexus Prime? Who is willing to invest over 500€/$ for this new Google Device?

I'll definitely wait for a lot of reviews, roms, ice cream on Nexus S to compare and price drop, then i decide what to do.
The screen seems outstanding but there are almost no apps for that resolution, and upscaling is not that good. The ram is nice but i prefer 2gb to never worry about it (at least for 2 years).
I'm already in queue and my wife gets the "S".

I like 4.0 inches screen, and 4.65 inch is too large for me... Not easy for taking .
just got my nexus s since june... I did not earn so much to spend 600 euros on new phone every 6 months...
and to keep talking nexus s is not so bad at all....
I'm going to stick with my nexus s as I also don't want/need a giant screen...4" is perfect for me. I'm just praying we get ICS on our phones soon!

If it's a sexy handset which uses nice materials and has a premium feel then I will definately be upgrading.
If it's plasticky and looks typically dull then I will be hesitant and wait to see how ICS performs on my current Nexus S.
Price is irrelevant to me.
I'm perfectly happy with my Nexus S, why would I upgrade?
I'm just a poor underage boy, so I'll probably wait for the next Nexus device. Also, I don't know if I like the design from the posters...
Gomna upgrade and pass this along to my son, now when it will show up north of the border is another thing.

If Sprint gets this, I'll plan to be on deck to grab two for me and the wife.
the screen is too big but i have bought both nexus one and nexus s one day one lol so i think so but i am perfectly happy with nexus s to be honest there not much i think i need in a phone until 10pm tonight lmao
I'm going to wait and see how ICS performs on the Nexus S but it's gonna be hard to resist and not buy this new baby
I'll wait to see how ICS looks on the S. Also, I will have to wait for Brodit to do the active car kit for it. Couldn't live without the current one now...
Maybe it'll be a bit cheaper by then too...
If it comes to sprint & if I got the $ then it's a 100% yes that I will get it the only thing that can make me hesitate is when specs , pictures
of Galaxy S3 comes out cuz that phone will have even better specs I can bet on that 100%

I will wait for price drop, 6 months or so ...
I'll be picking one up the first day the GSM variant is released. Then the Nexus S will become a dedicated Google TV remote, and the ADP1 will go to the museum. Selling the Nexus S for $150 just isn't worth it, whereas selling the Nexus One for $400 (with dock) after getting the Nexus S was definitely worth it. And I really love the Nexus S.

[COMPARISON] Samsung Galaxy Nexus vs. Samsung Galaxy S III

We got the S III last week, and been wanting to put up some comparison shots between the Nexus and the S3.
disclaimers:
- I use the nexus on daily basis, and have been for the past few months, so my opinion might be biased.
- the nexus is modded. the S3 is stock.
Feel: both phones feel about the same weight, however, to me, the S3 feels bigger when holding it (probably because of the bigger screen size). The nexus' textured body gives a much better grip than the S3s smooth body.
Display: You probably can't tell from the pictures, but the nexus has a curved display and the S3 doesn't. both displays are great, and with the right ROM/Kernel, they'd both look beautiful.
Performance: S3 feels faster than the nexus.. even with the stock ROM. Their hardware specs aren't the same, so no surprise there.
I was really waiting for the S3 to come out, as some of you may have as well. Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll try to answer all that I can.
Wtf wrong section

Is the Nexus running JB?
Probably not, a friend of mine also has a S3 and I own the Gnex of course. The Gnex is faster than the S3 with Jelly Bean on the homescreen and opening apps. The downside is of course the hardware and the S3 is way better in benchmarks, but anyway, jelly bean makes the Gnex really unique, at least until the S3 gets jelly bean.

running ParanoidAndroid
$350 vs. $650+
Nuff said.
+15-20% performance for almost double the price.
S3 is a very nice phone that has very poor value.
You think the Gnex dislplay is beautiful? Pffft, that phone feels so ghetto after getting my One X.
i prefere the pure unlocked UI untouched google phone! and that is Gnexus 4ever!
Using a non Nexus phone makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen as far as software-side is concerned, and I concern about that. I went through 4 Android phones in the last year and the Nexus is where I'm gonna stay until there's another Nexus that's worth upgrade to, likely next year.
Q&A!
I have both s3 and nexus I think with jelly bean nexus is fast but all I
Over s3 is better.

I have a GNEX running JB with Franco Kernel and personally it is pretty much perfect for what I use it for. I gave up buying the latest must haves a few yewars ago as I found that I wasn`t really using them to anywhere near their true potential.
I can`t see me changing my current phone for sometime yet. Just does all I need.
Displays look nice but that hardware button on the s3 really throws off the looks for me...

Considering the current obsession with increasing screen sizes, this hits the nail on the head. The GS3 is already flirting with being too large. Anything bigger is really overkill. I have a tablet for my big screen needs.

Oh, I like GS3's size as well. However, I'm not interested in anything larger. I really hope that the rumor of the Galaxy S4 having a 5 inch display is not true. That would be crossing over into the Note/Note 2 territory, and there's a reason why I didn't get the Note. Of course, this is still pure speculation, and I really don't think that Samsung will release the next Galaxy S phone less than a year after its predecessor.
Size is personal choise. I only have an S3 as a get-by until the Note II is available (sold my Note while it was still worth something). I can't wait for the bigger screen. I understand not everyone wants it too.
I tried playing Asphalt 7 on the GS3 and it was just WAY too small, I could never play a fast paced game on this screen. That said I still love my S3 :good:
Screen sizes are perfect right now. 5 Inch might be a bit over-kill. I love the SGS3's screen size. I think they should work on colors and contrast ratio's, as well as low brightness mode.

Our note 2 next to samsung's newest 'phablets' the "mega"

So I saw this article of size comparisons between phones, most notably the new Samsung phones named "mega" 5.8 and 6.3 respectively.
Does this mean that the note 3 is NOT going to be coming in the 6.3 flavor, and all the fuzz about the samsung bluetooth controller supporting "up-to 6.3" devices was just for this new "mega" phablet?
Look at the pics and tell me what you guys think.

the galaxy note 2 is now officially a normal sized phone LOL but samsung ruined the 2 new phones by putting in dual core processors (we're not in 2011 anymore samsung)
It's more of a midrange note.. it doesn't matter to Samsung how they get their money

Those are small Galaxy Tab 2 - 7 inchers. Not big phones.
I am quite comfortable with my more powerful Note 2 over those.
There is no way I can rock over a 6 " phone. I mean miles well just get the Note8.0 and call it a day...
We have to eventually have a boundary, lol!
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Yes I didn't want to compare the mega phones to ours, as ours has better specs, but I DID want to show what maybe a future note 3 might look like, in the sense that there was a probability that it would be 6.3 inches.
With that said, I used to think that 6.3 was not going to be much bigger than our phones, but looking at the pictures says otherwise. I am a big guy 6'1 and I don't think it would be practical to have such a big phone.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I hope the Note 3 looks just like that. The 6.3" one. I think it looks awesome.
The manager at T-Mo said that the rumor is that the N3 will be 6.4 almost an inch bigger than the N2. She also said to expect it really soon in a couple of months...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
The Note 3 will be 6.5 in with OLED 1080p slim bezel, New s pen input octa core. Final designs and testing being complete. The Note 3 won't just be a bigger S4
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Depending on price and frequencies, I'd rock one as a small tablet on the TMobile $30 plan (using data only). It's a better price than any tablet plan. Worst case scenario it might work on the AT&T tablet plans. That's my backup if the TMobile plan gets pulled. I dislike voip but I dislike high bills even more.
I have my Nexus 7 got my tablet needs. No need to get any bigger of a phone. I already feel like a meathead walking around while talking on this phone. I couldn't imagine holding the 6.3 or rumored 6.4 Note. Just to big.
With that said, just get a Note, 8.0 that has built in phone capabilities.

It's funny to read all the "omg yura doof" comments...
No bigger for me. I just want faster performance and a better radio.
hopefully next SGS N3 will have bigger battery & better body design. we all know, how android is when it come to power mngmnt. picture of mega phablet on post #1 looks like a SGS N2 that'd been photoshoped. back button inverted. anyway, will display res size 1080p make real difference in daily use for average joe with smartphone ?
I giggle with confusion when people comment about users who talk on "big" devices, I chuckle in dismay when said owners of "big" devices say they "feel funny" talking on such a big device ............
-_-
Walking into a bar I hear "Is that a Note 2..... you're crazy that thing is too big"
In my head I would say .... ".... and you're out of line. ...^_^"...
Instead I did them one even better. ...I continued using my device and completely ignored him, in fact this is the first time I'm making reference to his comment and this was 10/12..... him and others can have a _/.... so many hypocrites and malnourished credulous followers. How do you get off saying a device screen is "too small"... yet later a device is "too big".. those sentiments are fine. ..however you missed the most important piece. . "For you".... get it ? The perfect device for you may not be the same for you. ..perhaps there are individuals who rather talk on a 10.1 in screen, while you prefer a smaller screen, why is either party concerned about the others preference? ??????? Irrelevant. Why voluntarily get a device or partake in something then speak negative and offer complaints, nobody forced you to get this phone. ..^_^
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Really just makes me want a bigger Note. Now I just can't wait for the Note 3, since the Mega is a bit underpowered
noted for future reference on my Note 2
I prefer the larger screen on the Mega 6.3 but DPI is horrid. 1080P is a must these days. I don't mind the mid tier CPU since I don't game and prefer the longer battery life.
They didn't have a video, but the screen looks ok in the ubergizmo review's pictures.

[POLL] Would you buy this phone if it didn't have the S Pen?

I got my Note 3 a few days ago and I noticed that besides the first few minutes trying to figure out all the settings, I've never used the S Pen. So I was wondering how many people actually use it on a daily basis. The poll is above. thanks!
Other than drawing, the stylus can be used as mouse to pull down the menu.
The S pen is a plus.

I guess if you take notes a lot it's really useful, but for me, I just find it a "cool" feature of the phone. And if I ever need to take notes, then I have it with me.
Come Christmas time I'm really gonna enjoy having the s pen when I'm shopping for xmas gifts. I also use it for better photoshopping. I don't think I would've bought it of it didn't have an s pen and wish that some of the other 5 inch phones had it. Its not necessary but good to have when you need it.

I look smart and constructive when all I'm really doing is giving my units instructions in Total Conquest, I do like having the ability do draw and write. I don't plan on Jumping in six months so I'm sure it will earn its keep during the next year.
Had a note 1 for over a year, never once used the pen. Reckon it will be the same with the three. It's the screen, not the pretentious pen that draws me to it.

S-pen is neat and all, but if it wasn't present it wouldn't change my mind on the device.
Without the S-pen, I don't see the reason to buy this phone particularly, though I like it even without the S-pen.
LG G2 would be just as good of a choice with its beautiful 5.2" screen and more manageable size.

I really dont see how people think that the G2 is even somewhat comparable to this phone (I'm not flaming you, I just really hate the G2). I tried the phone in the tmobile store and I just couldn't get past LG's custom UI. It looks like its from the 90's. Now if CM gets official for that phone, then I might really consider it. But for now, this picture looks so bad to me, I don't think that I would ever buy a LG phone unless its a Nexus.
