[Q] Need help to unlock phone for Military Reserve duty tomorrow to leave country - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I'm leaving the country for my Reserve time tomorrow, and need to get my Galaxy S3 unlocked. T-mobile has been running me around and not giving me a code. Can anyone help me to get this unlocked so I can use it OCONUS while I'm gone starting tomorrow morning? I can provide IMEI upon request

As far as I know you either have to get it from tmobile or buy it online. Haven't heard of another way for this phone, sorry. Be safe man!

I highly doubt that if he really told T-Mobile he was leaving the Country they would not give him an unlock code, that's Verizon level BS, not T-Mo

Dont listen to people talking about "tricks" or "just say you wanna cancel."
Just call in, talk to customer care. If you feel you are getting the runaround, then ask why you cannot get the code and then speak with a manager. Not because a manager has more power to do what a care agent cant (trust me, they don't in this case)....but a manager may be able to understand you better if there seems to be a breakdown in communication between you and the customer service agent.
Not to mention that if you have filed for the unlock code before, the offline team that process the code should have told you why they cannot give you the code. If they gave you a wrong code, it is possible that the imei number inputted was wrong and needs to be resubmitted. Make sure they use the imei directly off the device and not off the systems.
So long as it has been 40 days since you activated your account, and you bought the phone from a TMobile sales channel (not on ebay or anything) than you should have no problem having the unlock request sent in. It may take a couple days for the code to come to you, though. It comes by email.
If you are traveling out of the country, than get the international customer care number. You can call in to customer care using this number, and call from anywhere in the world and will not be charged anything to talk to customer care.
There are some restrictions, of course. You have to be current on your bill is a big one.
This is all general information. They should be able to tell you all this or anything else needed if you call in. They should be open in a little under 3 hours.

These tricks do work though.
The retention department are the senior csr and know all the stuff already. You don't need to say you want to cancel, just tell them you situation. They'll most likely help you better.
I assume the csr have been pretty bad lately, hearing all these unhelpful examples. They probably hired a lot of new people recently.

Called a while ago, like two days after getting my phone and explained my reason (it's for when I'm out of the country). Had no problem and the guy took my IMEI, sent it off to Sammy, and I got an e-mail a few days later with my devices code.
If you can't get any luck through 611, try going to Google+ and ask T-Mobile on there to help. The employees behind the account often are helpful!

I am in the same exact boat. I am already over seas and stuck with no support from tmobile because I haven't had my phone long enough. I can't find anyone who has manually unlocked the t mobile version. Samsung won't help either because they say they can't verify phone ownership and tboblie will not contact samsung. Tmobile says they get the codes from Samsung and Samsung said they won't until tmobile says it's ok

ok i figured it out , kinda . since i havent had my phone for the 40 days t mobile wont send me my unlock code. Being i am overseas and want to use the phone and not buy a new one i was turned onto unlockclient.com paid my $25 and unlocked my phone in 5 min... yes it was that easy and thankfully the tmobile gs3 is a pina (sp) band because i am using a 1700 band and still get 4g

Ebay has the code for $8.

Just call 611 tell the your situation and they will ask you some info and in a day or so you will be emailed you code. You have to have been on tmobile for about three months. They are cool about that and never given a hard time to myself or others I know that had done so.
This is one area where tmo excellent.

[Q] TMO unlock

I have a tmo blue gs3, and a att white gs3, I have both services, contract ends with tmo in 10 days, I want to unlock the blue tmo to use with att, anyone have any ideas?
I could swap the att mb to the tmo, but I will use that as a last resort.
I like the blue phone look better.
Thanks for any help.

Just call T-Mobile and tell them you need an unlock code for travel to another country. They will give you the code for free.
From my understanding the T-Mobile SG3 does not have LTE ability. The phone will still work on AT&T but at slower speeds then your current AT&T SG3.
Unnoticeable slower speed if you don't test the speed.
But yes call T-Mobile and unlock it asap

Actually, I did read that I could call tmo, and after reading, alot of people were talking that they did not do that any longer, I will give it a shot, thanks to all that helped.

thats a lie, the reps are just lazy.
Use tmobile chat...takes 5 minutes and they'll email you the code within 24hrs. Just unlocked mine a couple weeks ago.

I thought they had to by law? I could be wrong though.
I'd recommend calling them.
A good reasoned argument with a lazy rep usually gets you what you want.
Like everybody else, call the rep and they will send it to your email even though you are still in contract. I was able to request my phone to be unlocked after having 2 months subscribed in TMO. And I still able to have them unlock my new S3 phone. No provider can beat that. Try it

1.Must be active for 60 days
2.Must have a balance of at least $10.00 or have had a refill placed on the account within the last 30 days

Note 2 no contract price from at&t

Has anyone bought a note 2 with no contract pricing from at&t before? If i was to buy one outright would they provide me with the sim unlock code so i can use it abroad since i travel alot? I dont want to use my upgrade just yet and my employer is willing to buy the phone for my use. I just want to make sure at&t will provide the unlock code since im paying full retail pricing. Has anyone experienced this before?
I don't think you're going to run into any issues paying full price, just keep asking until someone says yes.

Yes they will give u the unlock code as long as the phone isn't blacklisted. But if I'm not mistaken didn't they just banned phone unlocking? If so u might want to consider other options
You can flash one of the modems that works with the service menu unlocking method.

I've purchased my last 4 phones at the no contract price and have not had any issue's with obtaining the unlock code. Various methods can be used, but I just jump a on chat session and request the code, each time has been less than 5-10 min.

You shouldn't have not one problem! Because the phone is not on any contact with them. Buying it full price!!
Example:
After someone upgrades there line get's a new phone, the old phone can b unlocked because it's out of contract.
But if you should run into anything, here's a link that I used to unlock mine and a few of my friends phones!

[Q]

So I wanted to buy myself a Galaxy s3 for T mobile, so I go on craigslist to buy a used one since I cannot afford a brand new one. I find one, meet the seller, and buy it since it was in excellent condition. 4 days later the phone stops working on the t mobile network. I thought it was because of a rom I had on it, but It wasn't. I called T mobile to see if there was something wrong with my service, and told me my phone was reported stolen and they blacklisted it from the network. Since I have the sellers number and the texts between him and myself, I thought I could prove to T mobile that I didn't steal the phone, but they insisted that they cannot help me and told me to file a report at the police station, like that gonna do anything.
So my question is, since the IMEI of the phone is blocked, is there a way I can change the IMEI to a generic one? Will that work? Only reason I am asking is because I cannot sell my phone, nobody is interested. I even unlocked for $20 and still won't sell. I bought it for 380, and the highest I've gotten on craigslist so far is 280. I don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated thanks.
Never mind, just found out generic IMEI doesn't work on t mobile anymore, bummer

You are pretty much SOL man. There is NOTHING legal you can do to restore its service on T-Mobile. I would sell it as an ATT device. 280 is ridiculous though. Even if it doesnt work on T-Mobile, it WILL still work on any other GSM network.
Im really sorry dude. Maybe there is something that can be done legally through a lawyer or something since you have all the information stating you bought it. I mean, essentially what that guy did is 100% fraud.

It will not work on AT&T, T-Mobile and AT&T share the same blacklist database.
It isn't really worth going through the legal system over $380.
OP, how do you know the number the guy used just isn't some generated number from a free texting app. I would just sell it for $280 and take the $100 lost. Or track the guy down and beat the living crap out of him, but what are the chances of that?

I bought my galaxy s2 from Cl to this day (bought over a year ago) it would still work if I didn't break it.
It's a gamble.
But I don't see how it should be closed. It's not the OPs fault he had a douche bag sell him the phone. People don't need to be like that. He's just trying to make the best of his situation.

The problems isn't craigslist per se , but its that the desperation out there is higher. People are willing to take risks to make money because they are broke, out of a job , etc. Not saying any of those are excuses to steal or commit fraud, but if a few people came on this thread and found out others are doing it, they are willing to try it also.

We need a sticky on how to buy a phone on CL. You need to go to a T-Mobile store with the person before buying it (meet there) and have the rep check it out and conform hehe status and make a note on your account.

Note 3 from Negri Tmobile just called me

Anyone else get a call from Tmobile?
They are looking into whether or not the phone was fraudulently purchased, I don't like the sound of this.
The rep said there is nothing I need to do now, but I should have my receipts and all that in order. I don't know what this means, but it's a bad sign. =(
What?

Did you verify the call was actually from t-mobile? Also, you contact Negri? I personally have not dealt with them, but I would suggest verifying t-mobile truly called me and then taking it up with Negri.

Unless some third party tapped into Negri's customer database, it's most likely T-Mobile.
Can't say that I'm surprised something like this would happen.

Thanks for the warning and I certainly hope it isn't some scam trying to get my information.
But I'm pretty sure it was Tmobile's number (800-937-8997) that was on my caller id and when I called it back it directs to Tmobile customer service. I'm pretty sure it is Tmobile. I've already contacted Negri to see what they say.
I hope this all works out and that I can keep my phone and not get blacklisted.
Just for further information:
They asked where I bought the phone and I told them Negri and how much I paid for it.

It IS possible to spoof a caller ID so that is nothing to go by. I could call you from your bank's phone number and play the old game of social engineering to get your account information the same way. What may have happened is that the Note was stolen or is within the same batch of phones that may have had a shipment stolen. I can't see T-Mobile locking you out of your own phone over this as long as you have a proof of purchase

^^ Yes, this is why I asked if you verified it was truly t-mobile. You can call them back. If they called you, it will be noted in your account. But I do not answer ANYONE, who calls and asks me something. If someone calls me, I will hang up, then call the company after getting the name of the person that supposedly called me. If they have it noted that there is some important information that needs to be discussed, great, but otherwise it is always a terrible idea to answer anything from anyone without verifying. Hell, when you call them they make you give them a pin, answer security questions, etc... There is a reason they protect your identity, I would hope you like to protect yourself from someone else.
Sorry for the rant, I know a few people that have been caught by this type of stuff, and being in the military, they ingrained the "social engineering" aspect into me, so I am cautious about everyone who calls me. But, I am basically saying to be careful. So give them a call and ask them if they called you. This way at least you'll know if it is a legitimate claim or not.

But, I am basically saying to be careful. So give them a call and ask them if they called you. This way at least you'll know if it is a legitimate claim or not.

Well thanks for all that. I will try and be more careful. But if it were someone phishing I don't know what they would do with that information -- seems pretty random to me. I didn't even tell them how much exactly I paid for it -- just gave them an estimation.
I verified with Tmobile, it was a rep that called me as noted in my account -- but they did not specifically say what that matter was.
But again, thanks for your tips guys -- I will be far more cautious next time. This is a good lesson for me to never be caught off guard.
That's good to hear. Probably because there are a ton of fake note 3's out there, and they want to make sure you didn't get one of those. They can always seem real enough, or as Flippy125 said, the shipment may have been lost or stolen, then sold without knowledge to vendor. Hope all is well though.
tweaking my note 3-alpha style
It might have something to do with the fact that Negri seems to be selling (or at least has sold) phones that were later blocked by T-Mobile (i.e. they were buying used phones and selling them as new). It's in a thread that I started when I order from Negri (and later cancelled). T-Mobile might be investigating that. I have no proof of that, it's just a theory.
I don't give out any information by period!!

My phone is blacklisted.
I will never trust another reseller again. This stinks.

Wow, that absolutely sucks, I'm so sorry.
I would try to get ahold of Negri ASAP
Damn dude, that's crap. Why is it blacklisted?

According to an IMEI check, it's blacklisted most likely due to nonpayment. Meaning whomever Negri purchased the phone from -- they didn't pay off the remaining balance of that phone. At least that's my guess.
That should fall back on Negri, if they want to maintain their business anyway. Otherwise I'd be pursuing legal action, which IMO, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.. Guess it's up to them at this point.. Have you spoken with Negri, what's their position?

I contacted Negri and they told me to RMA it. Has this happened to anyone else before?
Also just in an attempt to go beyond Negri, I tried contacting my CC and Paypal about it but they couldn't dispute the charges given the length of time (about 2 months) since the purchase date.
So far, it seems my only resort is hope that Negri takes care of this.
Btw, I contacted Tmobile and they asked me to write the Legal Department a letter if I want to submit and/or ask for further details.
One of my two note 3s got blocked yesterday, trying to contact somebody at Negri during the weekend is impossible. Called, emailed, and tweeted. Even called the owner. I'll update after I get a hold of someone
