Question about a requirement for an app - Samsung Captivate Glide

I was looking for an audio eq for my phone so I can adjust the software mid and highs so I can get cleaner sound with my jl w7 subs, however never found one. Seen power amp has a 10 bar eq but I don't wanna buy it just for the eq.
Anyways I found something like it, and it says it requires root, busy box, and s-off <---- my question is what is this because I've never seen it before as a requirement for anything.
Samsung SGH-i927:
CWMR Touch v4.0.0.1
Keyboard fix
Superuser 3.2r3 ARM Optimized
LiteKernel v4.1

S-off i believe is for htc phones, but i could be wrong.. it security-off for the system files..
I dnt think u have to worry bout it with sammy though..
All u need is root and busybox.

rooted 1.32.651.6 - what now?

Since I didn't apply the ota update, I can't help but wonder what features I'm missing out on by not applying the update. Phone is running ok so no real complaints but is there anything that I should apply next to get any additional benefits? I used unrevoked and that's it. Nothing fancy so far.

You aren't missing much right now aside from some fancy themes. I stay away from those, until they mature.
Hopefully, in the near future, there will be a 30fps fix and a touch lag fix. Then you'll likely need fully unlock to use those.

The ones that stand out to me the most is the grounding issue fix and the option to set 720p or 480p for the HDMI out.
Other than those two features I didn't really notice much difference. Some people reported a more responsive screen also.
Exchange 2010 calendars now work.

first thing i would do is get rid of the unrevoked and do a true full root the toast way.
try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706411&highlight=click+root
its basically toasts method in simple click process. there are already a few custom roms with the update applied so you're good there.
read that topic it cant be that hard.

I have seen here and another post that you are advocating .6 users to stay away from the unrevoked rooting method for .1 and .6
I am curious as to why?
The sudo root unrevoked app works well with these versions and does not cause any issues whatsoever
I'd like to know why I should ditch unrevoked too.
I also want to ensure that anything I apply can be reverted back to stock if need be.

Well for one its closed source. android and XDA is about open source and sharing with everyone. also its not truly full root with NAND unlocked and everything. it just causing confusion.
kinda like carriers do with unlimited data but then its like oh you can't go over 5gigs. oh so now 5gigs is unlimited?
so now unrevoked is full root? no
sure you can run titanium and superuser blah blah but the confusion is the same and the reason why it is confusing is because they won't actually share and open exactly what their doing.
if they worked together there would be one root method as with the other HTC phones and everyone is on the same page. look at almost all custom ROM's there is mention of having to be fully rooted via toast method.
thats the confusion im talking about and thats why a closed way of doing things sucks!
the 3 click method is very easy and sure there are risks in doing it but its sure as hell safer then running some code that is closed that nobody knows.
no need to take short cuts.
I think hes talking about unrevoked 1. Thats what I use. I am going back and forth on rooting my evo fully. There is nothing wrong with the unrevoked apk. All it does it grant su when the phone is powered on (temporary root) It doesn't allow the flash of custom recoverys or in turn roms. It just allows root privilege when the phone is on.
People are saying stay away from unrevoked 2, the full "one click" root or whatever. I've heard many things about this, one of them being it breaks 4g. I always stay away from manual rooters. Did on my hero, as people always seem to have problems. If you are happy with just su permissions, the unrevoked 1 (apk) will work just fine. If you're interested in more permissions, reading/writing to android ect, uninstall the apk, reboot, and start with toast step 1.
For me, I haven't decided if I NEED full root yet. My hero was slow, and cluttered, so I rooted to clear some stuff out. However, with su access on my evo, its fast enough already. The only plus I see is uninstalling system apps, but its not like the evo doesn't already have enough room for everything I would want on it. Oh, or if youre interested in theming in any way. I'm sure I will eventually fully root, as I enjoy messing with things but unrevoked 1 is just fine as well.
Pick up wireless tether and a cachecleaner. Thats where I would start with new su privilege running the apk.

DSP Manager on Sense

So, in the end I like Virtuous, but one thing I *really* miss about cm6 is DSP manager. My Bluetooth is dull sounding, my earbuds are bright, and it was nice to be able to balance out the sound separately.
I tried yoinking the apk out of the cm6 update zip, but I guess it's missing something from another part of the ROM.
Anyway, this is a bit out of my territory. I feel like the answer to this would also give me a bit more insight on how it all fits together.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Your sound quality is worse because of the bitrate cap on the bluetooth stack which is set by HTC. Nothing devs can do about it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
That's true, but I'm talking tonality rather than the audio resolution.
Apparently I've already used DSP manager to successfully compensate for the crummy speaker in my Bluetooth earpiece.
The question is about whether i can get DSP manager to function on the Virtuous ROM.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well, I tried copying libaudio.so and libaudioflinger.so from cm6.1.1 to my system/lib (as per a post about doing this on a desire hd) and my phone wouldn't boot :/
I guess it's not that simple lol

Somebody posted a link to the flashable .zip for DSP Manager over in the EVO forum. There seemed to be mixed results on various phones, with some people having pretty serious issues, like not being able to play media files, or having bootloops, after flashing. So I've been gunshy to try it on the DZ.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795233
I completely agree that an equalizer is needed on the phone to tweak the sound in various situations, and to personal taste. I'm surprised that 3rd party apps have not been made that do this (and I mean for sound in all apps/situation, not just a music player with an equalizer), or that HTC hasn't created a Sound Booster like they did for Sense on Windows Mobile.

Loving the Totoro
I saw this post, tried to do the fundamental thing using vision ROMS, but got stuck at the boot screen.
I'm apprehensive too, but I think what I already did is probably worst case scenario, so maybe right now I'll do another nandroid and give that update a try...I'll let you know how it goes

So I tried the update.zip from that epic 4g thread.
My phone worked, but songs would play 20 seconds per real second with no audio.
I opened the zip and put the libaudioflinger.so from CM6.1.1 in instead of the other one.
This time everything worked, but DSP manager didn't actually affect the audio.
Then I tried moving the libaudio.so from the cm Rom as well, but then system force closed when all booted up, leaving me with a black screen lol.
I'm all restored, but no luck with DSP manager yet.

Are you implying that my photo looks like some kind of cartoon? ;-)
Thanks for being the guinea pig and trying it out, and for letting me now how it went! Too bad it didn't work. I'd really like an equalizer on the phone, as well.
I have sort of good news.
I checked out the Virtuous change log for the Incredible version of the ROM which is much more developed. Rmk incorporated DSP Manager into that ROM. I can only guess (and hope) that he will do the same with the Vision version. Seems likely enough.

Yes it's working on my Htc Desire Z. I just downloaded and installed the apk. I'm using rom based on Virtuous Sense (DualSense Rom). I'm very happy beacuse of powerful bass enhancement.

New PC app to root even easier to use works on multiple phones!!

Hey guys I use an app called cpu master pro it is made by AnTuTu I actually use a few apps made by them and in the power saver app they advertise a program for root. At the bottom it just says root tool. It is a new advertisement because I have been using the power saver app for a while since my g2x and so I checked it out. It is called "unlock root”
You can root and unroot with it on multiple devices all you need is the drivers for that phone and make sure you have usb debugging checked. It is obviously a computer app and it is truly a one click thing. Now I have tested it out on my g2x and can confide that it will unroot and root it. I am running whitehawks weapon 3.0 ROM with dragon kernel overclocked to 1.5 ghz and when I hooked up my phone to the pc it found it right away and I hit unroot and it took all of 4 seconds then it rebooted the phone and it was done!! I tested it I was able to watch movies from the Google market on the phone and titanium did not receive root permissions. Then I tried to root it and did the same procedure expect I hit root this time and same results 4 seconds done!!
I am going to test it with my SGS2 in a few minutes but it is listed as one of the devices that it works with. So far it looks like it works on 4 HTC phones $ Samsung galaxy series phones and 4 LG phones. On closer look I notices that the SGS2 listed is the 9100 not any of the others but I also only lists the optimus 2x and the g2x worked so I am going to give it a try.
I just thought I would get that out there because I was just recently looking for a way to unroot so I could use google movies but I looks like it is a pain now because there is no flashable zip for it anymore. So try it out and let me know. And of course I am not in any way shape or form a dev and I am not responsible if this program makes your phone grow a brain and masterminds a plan and leads a robot army to take over the human race!!

Questions about Samsung t989

I have a samsung Galaxy SII t989 with the latest beats audio mod. Is it normal for poweramp to not display the option to enable Beats and SRS? It also seems like it cuts off beats sometimes but when i exit the app and open it again it works perfectly fine.
Also, unrelated to this, I'm kind of on edge with the ICS roms on whether or not to flash them. How safe is it for me to flash them or should i wait for the official release? Will my apps still be installed if i flash the ICS Roms? I've mistakenly flashed the International SII rom once and had to exchange the phone whoops.
The ics roms are incredible. I'm using tdj's beta 7.01.
Use titanium backup or my backup pro to backup your apps.
You don't want official ics. At the very least you want a rooted version.

thanks for the reply. I was deciding between Darkside and Juggernaut, i don't know which one is better though. It seems the most popular is darkside. I might try out darkside once i gain a little bit more knowledge on the SII. I don't want to brick a $500 phone
EDIT: I just updated to the LDE software and now i can't install apps. It tells me it is out of space but i check and there is still 1.6 gb free. I tried moving apps to the SD Card but that didn't work either. I tested with titanium backup and poweramp. They both won't install.
EDIT2: It seems lucky patcher had an extra ODEX that wouldn't let me install anything. Problem solved. Now to solve the beats problem

[Q] Speaker Boost

Got my T-Mobile note 3. Already rooted. Must say it is pretty dope but coming from a HTC one the speaker quality is such a let down. Now I don't expect to have the same sound quality but has anyone seen a way to boost the Volume.? Back when I had the note 2 there was this guide to manually edit the sound levels or something like that.. Just hoping that someone comes up with something
They will, they always do. Love this place.

I've never been able to get Viper to work either. The S4 has a volume boosting mod, but I have no idea if it would work.

I used ViPER on my Note 2 and will not go without it on my Note 3. The first thing I did after rooting was install it. It's MUCH easier than it use to be. It's just downloading a 2 zip files, removing the 4.? apk's from them, placing them on your N3, installing them, opening them up. The drivers are auto downloaded now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
On the ViPER page [link above], go to the download section and download:
ViPER4Android FX
Important: v2.3.x update is special. Must read special instructions above!
FX version v2.3.0.1 (Android 2.3~4.3): MediaFire
Notice: Please install v2.3.0.1 as USER app.
and this
ViPER4Android XHiFi
XHiFi version v2.1.0.2-1 (Only Android 4.x): MediaFire
Note: Driver version will shown as 2.1.0.2 (See In-app Changelog and make sure there's 2102-1)
Extract the files to your desktop.
Copy
ViPER4Android_v2301_Android_4.x.apk
and
ViPER4Android_XHiFi.apk to your SD card and install them
Run FX/XHiFi app from drawer, allow root access.
When driver installation prompt, choose Yes to "Install/Update". (V4A auto detect and install correct driver)
After installation done, Reboot device.
Go into Settings/Device/Sound/Music Effects and select ViPER4Android FX
It's ready to go. Open up ViPER4Android FX and XiHiFI and enable both.
That was the easy part. Getting the sound the way you want it is the hard part. A lot of tweaking.
