[Q] App2zip and TWRP 2.3.1.1 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Is App2zip "playing nicely" with TWRP 2.3.1.1? I know it is supposed to work OK with 2.2, but I don't know if it is compatible with the upgrade.

How bout you try and find out and let us know.

Dont get why you would ask this its an upgrade in recovery but all upgrades have been backwards compatible with stuff... so confused on that

ok then find a zip that does work properly for you and extract your data and data/app folder if you like and place it in the new update.zip.
I personally take one of the inverted gapps zip or regular gapps zip and fix it to my liking by placing my data apps that I have gotten from the program apps2zip. By doing this you are ensured the zip works fine since its generic and you know all the apps from your phone should be restored properly. Just run fix permissions prior to booting up again

I find that some of the apps recover OK but some of the others will just FC; I guess it is the ones that have data that freeze - I end up having to uninstall and do a fresh install. I'm not sure this happened with 2.2.0,

So you just title the zip "update" then flash it?
Don't need to rename it. Just boot into recovery & select the proper zip to flash.

This could be why my market and stuff isn't working because I'm jsut installing the apks.
So after you update then go to were you select zip and pick this?

See and I've been renaming my roms "update" when I put them on the sd then go into recovery and it asks me to install it lol.
I remember when I had my G1 you had to rename anything you flashed to update.zip

Don't need to rename. Just flash and reboot. Should all be on there.. did the same thing l. Installed and no market. Did read about the gapps but didn't know market was a gapp. I'm still new at this but found out it was in the zip..

[Q] Cyanogen Mod Problems...?

I'm having some problems with cyanogen mod, and this deals with all versions. I cannot install a single app without it force closing on launch, and I cannot get Gapps back without it causing a boot loop.
Am I missing something? I don't have these problems with other ROMS but I really want to give cyanogen a chance. Someone help! Lol.
Now titanium backup works. I just kept opening it and force closing it. But everything else still does not work. I think its time to smoke and dig on my phone.
Pointers please!
Have you tried fixing permissions in rom manager?

I was having the same problems with the newer versions of cyanogen. I just went back to a stock 2.2, re-rooted, then did a complete wipe and install and haven't had a problem since.

I ended up fixing it. I had to fix permissions on ROM Manager and on ClockworkMod. But now I can't use market, Gmail, or any Google related app.

Well, I have 2.007.04, and that file was in /system/app. Unfortunately, I don't know any way of checking which version it is.
are you gen1 or gen2?
i dont understand why it wouldnt install, i found another apk through the a500 forums, which installs, but does not match the version i initially backed up. and when i try to install the one you attached it just says "installation failed"
i wouldnt think gen1 or gen2 would make a difference, but if you want to check the version of acer sync, if your rooted you can load up titanium backup and it will show you the version. im at work right now so i cannot check mine to post the version but i will after work.
if all else fails i should be able to factory reset and fix it....

Probably a dumb question but you ARE placing the .apk in the system/app folder before trying to install right?
Its a system app not a market app and thats where itll need to be done..
Make sure permissions are set properly too...

check and check, placing in /system/app and changing permissions to match all the other apps permissions...
i will give it another shot after work, maybe i was having a brain fart but im sure i was doing it right..
Ok so long story short, couldn't restore it, factory reset didn't fix it and then my home button stopped working. Downloaded the latest dycrypted 3.2.1 update from dev section, flashed and updated to latest ota. Everything perfect again. Rooted and got everything all back to my liking.
Word of advice...don't depend on titanium backup to save your system apps lol.
At least now I know how to flash the update.zip and keep it on my sdcard "just in case". Thanks for all the help though guys!
Cheers!

Sounds right. Anything dependent on touchwiz wont work. You're likely to get s lot of incompatible errors because of the changes in the density as well. Running tablet mode comes at a price. you can just sideload the ones it says are incompatible or get them from blackmart.
blackmart link (use responsibly)https://dl.dropbox.com/s/t9pqttpf4p4bp76/blackmart[1].apk?dl=1
My thing is that I was using the previous version just fine was able to download apps fine so what's different in this release

This is just taking a shot in the dark but maybe something changed in the build.prop. Try pulling the build.prop file from the last version of P.A and replacing the one in /system. Then resync w/google

props to an epic app!!
This is actually pretty awesome. It was always tedious to have to get my phone half way set up and download titanium backup pro, then install all my apps. One click zips is just too cool.
If anyone has already done this, mind posting the steps necessary to get it done?

Its under batch, scroll down till you see recovery mode, only one option that says create update.zip. Correct me if i am wrong.
This is music to my ears. As a recovering flashaholic, I fully realize how much time it takes to restore 100+ apps. Plus, I always feel like my phone is so laggy during the restore, so it really does take about 15-20 minutes. This step will be a HUGE time saver.
The one question I have is does the first boot take longer? Would you almost recommend flashing the ROM and booting first, let the ROM settle and then boot to recovery and flash the TB zip?

I actually didn't try flashing the zip yet, just did a backup for next time i flash a rom, so i don't know if it needs to be signed sorry. Maybe someone else can answer the question?
I flashed it no problem. Do not use the update.zip function in recovery. Just flash like a normal zip.

1. You need to boot up first then reboot recovery for it to flash.
2. In my case flashed correctly but all apps were FCing and a lot of lag and freezes.
3. Stick to old way till they fix the problem.

File is located in root Internal Storage by default.
Did my restore, worked great! I was a little surprised by the fact that my phone automatically rebooted, but everything works fine.

It is not necessary to sign update.zip unless you are using a stock recovery. Since most of us are rooted, I imagine we're also using a custom recovery so it won't be necessary. Like another user said, just flash it like normal.
After I create update.zip, can I edit it on my PC to add/remove items?
