[Q] Bootloader unlocked? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I can't find any statements about the bootloader being locked or unlocked on Sprint, only that Verizon's is locked. Does anyone know for sure? I don't want to get stuck on a phone I can't modify.

Well sprint hasn't done it, and for sure Samsung doesn't do it, so I'm gonna go ahead and say no its not locked. Verizon is a **** that way.

There is already root for this device. Check the original development thread
Sent from my SPH-L900

Root and bootloader unlock are two different things. I havn't check the dev section but from what I heard the root was for the pre-release ROM, since then Sprint have change the firmware and the current root method doesn't work.
As far as the bootlocker concern, getting bootloader unlock means you can install custom ROM which have different kernel. Say you want a custom rom with Android 4.2 earlier than Sprint release or stuff like cifs module or overclock and etc, then you would need bootloader to be unlocked on the phone.

boot load is unlocked and root is for todays release. chain and i worked on it all night for yas.

Exynos source?
Does the Note 2 have the Exynos source out? Aka do developers have full access to the Exynos processor?
Or will there be problems for custom roms? (I heard without the source custom roms would be buggy or not full featured)

Main reason to root galaxy nexus

Eventually I will be rooting my nexus but I'm wondering what is out right now that is worth rooting?
I know this phone is fairly new so I know there are betas out there
Is there a rom that is pretty solid?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Being that it's a nexus...
The roms are built (primarily) from source. And otherwise cherry-picked from other roms.
As such, they are ALL very stable, that I've seen.
The choice is yours.
Root access adds so much to the device...even without a custom rom.
The ability to back your system up.
Back up user apps to transfer to future devices/restore on your current device in the case of failure of some sort...
Better battery life from custom kernels/tweaks/etc.
Pretty much this

There are loads of good roms, just about every one is non beta. Aokp is the most popular one, paradigm is good, cyan next.
Thanks everyone
Hopefully there is a one click root for the cdma gnex soon

if you're just rooted, you cant switch kernels unless you're also unlocked.

This is incorrect. Of course you can flash whatever kernel you want if you have root. No need for an unlocked bootloader. (This isn't a Motorola device...)

You can flash kernels on the fly, with Android running, so this its correct, you dont need a unlocked bootloader to flash kernels...

galaxy nexus toolkit makes it very easy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
main reason to root.. custom roms of course. Other good reasons are AdAway and DroidWall (good to block apps from using 3g if you have a crappy data allowance like me)

ok so i managed to root my phone yaaay...thanks to this great community
one problem tho, it seems that the custom recovery wont stick, when i try and reboot into recovery i get this android with a red yield sign thing
I think custom recovery won't stick on stock rom, it resets itself

Q. I flashed CWM but each time I reboot the Stock Recovery is back
There is an auto recovery restore system on Android that will reflash the Stock Recovery if you flash CWM on a Stock Rom.
Use Root Explorer to Mount the system folder as R/W (or use a free app from the Market). Delete the file recovery-from-boot.p from /system. Now when you flash CWM Recovery it will NOT be overwritten after a reboot.

Or use Rom Manager (free) from the market.
It'll remove that file as well.
I got it all working now thank you everyone for the help !
Now to search for the best custom rom

I have MANY reason for rooting a device. At the top of my list is something I didn't see anyone else mention: WiFi Tether, so I dont have to pay my carrier a monthly fee for tethering.

Unlock

Is anyone working on no code or nv read unlock on the sim?
Yeah, I'm not sure about that but I have a related question. I unlocked my phone today on the stock rooted ICS rom. I'm wondering if the unlock will persist if I flash darkside v7 or if I will have any issues using my phone in europe after flashing a custom rom
EDIT: I actually also remember seeing a dev only unlock thread in the android development section so you might wanna check that out.

Confused -- AT&T Ion

Hi
I picked up a newn AT&T Ion on Craigslist for $75. A real nice device. I am pleasantly surprised. Perfect size and very smooth with ICS.
I've looked around and initially thought it couldn't be rooted; however I've seen a couple of threads contradicting that.
Can someone tell me if I can root?
Thanks

You can root with Eroot (search) but you cannot unlock the bootloader.
Unlocking is needed to load custom kernels then?

Exactly.
Therefore, you can only flash custom ROMs that is based on stock ROM.
Is that any rom in the ion section? If not then how do i tell which custom roms based on stock i can flash? Thanks

1. No custom kernel for locked bl.
2. Usually the ROM thread will tell you if this ROM is based on stock ROM or CM or AOSP or whatever.
Most stock-based ROMs are locked bl friendly unless otherwise stated.

[Q] Bootloader exploit is possible to realize ?

Could we have in your opinion a valid bootloader exploit, or an hw exploit to free this damn bootloader ?
If you look at g2....several people have looked at this bootloader and said it looks the same so the using of patched kernel and other may help just Need for people to get the us versions and get the info we Need ...the guys that have won the t mobile ones Need to get a adb Dump and then the guys can start thinking about recovery

Keep in mind on the g2 the patched kernels were not what allowed to have custom recovery with kitkat, the patched kernels were just modified stock kk kernels with the needed information to allow us to boot the kk system/modem/etc with the older already exploitable jb bootloader and it each g2 variant had a specific jb bootloader that needed to be used it couldn't be just any jb bootloader; on another note it maybe true that they are similar but it also turns out the g3 gas 2 bootloaders not one like every other device so that has to be looked into to see how they interact with each other

We can make some tests if you need...
Yea I am not a dev and would not want to risk another persons phone, I just happen to be in the g2 scene and know a lot about it

Unlocked bootloader necessary for custom ROM

I am wondering if having the bootloader unlocked is necessary to install a custom ROM?
My g2 (Verizon) never had the bootloader unlocked, and there was a workaround using loki. Is this something that we can expect from the g3(also Verizon)?
for a rom no.... for a rom and KERNEL yes you do..
i wonder if the loki exploit will work on this model too.. Im no dev though

Expanding on that, on the g2 it was necessary to keep the version 10d bootloader if you updated to anything higher. I was running kit kat with the jellybean bootloader. I don't really know how to do it. It was included with autorec's install of twrp recovery.
Since the first versions of g3 software have bootloader patched for loki, there is nothing to revert back to.
