The Droid RAZR M Off-Topic Thread - Droid RAZR M General

Since I got my RAZR M today, thought I'd stop by and say hello. This thread is a place to talk about, well, anything! Android or not this is a thread for people with the RAZR M to talk. In my experience, threads like this help the community bond and grow helping keep the hate and flaming to a minimum. Mods, you can close this if you think this violates any rules.

i guess ill start this thing?
My name is Anthony, im from New Jersey, im 16 yrs old, i have many android devices, mostly my rezound (now my razr M ) and my HP Touchpad. im somewhat of a developer, more then a power user, less then a hardcore developer. Im thinking of working on roms for this when the consumer model gets custom recovery or safestrap/bootstrap. Im more then happy to help people, as im proficient in HTC, Samsung and Motorola devices. ive been a recognized contributor for about 2 months, and a member since Jan 2011.
Who's next?

Names rob. 19 years old out of Rochester NY. Been a member here on xda for a little over a year. Mostly became interested in modding/developing when the droid 3 first came out. It was the first phone that I actually felt proud of and wanted to learn more about android. The d3 is what really got me knowledgeable about rooting/tweaking etc. Found my way on xda shortly after that purchase and my knowledge greatly increased from there. I'm by no means at all an expert but I know my fair share. I learn more and more each and every day and I'm happy to have such a supportive community! After my d3 crapped out I became attached to the RAZR m due to the size and unbelievable specs. Can't wait until the RAZR M's developer community expands and we start the real fun
Who's next?!

Hey there all. Just got the g/f a retail M a little bit ago. Debating whether I want to ditch my S3 for the M or not. Development is sort of at a stand still until Hash gets SS3 fully working. Love the size but turned off by weak 4G strength. Just installed the JB OTA on her's and retained root.
Running pretty smooth but badly need to boost the processor speeds. Still getting a little lag with screen swipes on the home screens. Most noticeable from home screen to quick settings screen on the left. App drawer swipes smooth like the S3 now though. (Running paranoid on the S3).
Really think the extra gig of ram helps the S3. Can't imagine how quick the M would be w/ that extra gig of ram on a smaller screen. Her M does own my phone on the benchmarks though lol. On stock rooted ICS and JB she's scoring around 5400 in Quadrant while my S3 is around 5100-5200.
Really really loving how close moto is going to AOSP. I mean hardly any motoblur on this. Likewise while I may be running a modified AOSP on my S3, Sammy really hit a homerun with Touchwiz on it. Good times to be an Android user.
Saving up money for a Surface tab now and maybe a Macbook Air b/c I'm not truly a fanboi. I don't know about you all, but severely disappointed with no LTE for the Nexus 4.
(Sorry trying to keep this somewhat OT lol)
What roms would you all like to see come to the M?
For me I'd have to say Slimbean, Eclipse, and Paranoid would be my top 3.
Slim for the slimness, Eclipse for the blacked out themes and great battery life (plus stability), and Paranoid for AOSP + UI mods
Maybe some Arctic roms from Matt also. And we need a batman program for all our M needs. :good:

I definitely agree. This thing flies! Too bad we only got 1gb of ram. As for roms, I'd like to see eclipse too. Nitro has a thing for Motorola phones so let's hope he decides to work on this for us I'd also like to see aokp. I love all the features and brings the customizability to a whole new level. I hope they would be based on 4.2, whenever that's possible. I saw you said you wanted a surface tablet? Sweet. I want one but a little short on cash now. Trying to pull something together to get black ops 2 on Tuesday lol as for switching from an s3 , I'd say stick with the s3, unless the size is a deal breaker

Hey everyone my name Jacob or JP works fine too. I have a retail RAZR M and am a very well known developer over in the Bionic section of XDA and on DroidRzr.com. Once we get a working Safestrap, I will be developing for the M. Some of the AOSP based stuff like AOKP, CM10, and CNA I will probably end up porting as well. You will definitely see me around these forums as the RAZR M is an awesome phone, nice change from those big phones like the S3.

Flash before then. When I pull my phone out with some of the custom roms on here the other person generally doesn't even pull their phone out. Unless they want to compare thinness versus the other sgs 2s

More HD2 love here! Took me all of three days before I flashed this phone. Good stuff. No where near the number of ROMs out for this like the HD2, but great ROMs nonetheless.
Came from the Sensation. Loving this phone except for the data connection issues.
Angstig gepost van mijn Galaxy SII
Sweet, welcome!
Try out Juggernaut & BeastMOD. They're two of my particular favorites. And as someone said earlier, we're all just waiting for ICS...or at least Samsung to release driver sources. The ROMs so far are Stock-modified due to lack of the sources, with the exception of a CM7/MIUI beta.
Have fun!

PGM2 for SGS3 (POLL)

Hey everyone
so i have been in contact with the dev of PGM2.. he makes a kernel mod that allows you to swipe to turn off/on screen etc instead of using buttons
heres the link to his thread for the nexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721895
i essentially was talking to him to see if he would be willing to make us an app for our sgs3 devices... as i personally hate using buttons for fear of them breaking or wearing out on me... so i wanted to do this poll to see who would be interested in this kind of thing...
the dev needs to gauge interest to see if people would even want it to make it work his time...
please people, make sure to vote and voice your opinions as i would LOVE to have this ported over from the nexus
thanks!!
Come on people. Vote it up! Vote yes! Lol
Sent from my A510 using Tapatalk 2
come on people.. 200 views and only 5 votes... show come support please
I believe ktoonsez's kernel has this feature in the ktweaker settings if you want it that bad. A bit if a battery drain though
ya i know, but honestly its not as developed as the pgm2 one is... and to be honest, the KT one barely works... had KT installed and it never worked for me.. ive now moved to leankernel

Yea. I didn't figure it out too. Then I finally found out that you swipe across the screen to make it work. And I don't see YOU developing something to fix this, give thanks for what you have.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I dont have to develope anything. There is someone that is willing to port an already existing app to our devices. Don't have to be rude. I'm saying that the one in the kernel currently isn't developed to its full potential... a little competition didn't hurt anyone...
Sent from my A510 using Tapatalk 2
Personally, I like swiping the screen to take a screenshot, rather than locking the phone. Though perhaps this swipe could be from the bottom to top.. that would be quite interesting.

Just inherited an sph-d710 just cuz...

My question is... which rom is best on this device? Maybe asking for too much but anything close to s3 and note 2 like rom would be sweet. I have an i777 on shostock3 and that rom is beast.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
You inherited a damn good phone lol. The recently released jellybean leaks like FK23, FL04, and FL16 offer a close experience to that of the Galaxy S3. The home screen and notification bars are nearly the same and many features are carried over to our device as well. You have some interesting motion features to try out as well.
Honestly you can't go wrong with any. All the devs put a lot of hard work into their roms, and it shows. My personal favorite for ics is blu Kuban. As of right now I am running fk23, and have been since it's release.

Congrats on getting this phone:thumbup:
Now as far as best ROMs. There is no such thing as a "best" ROM. Every user has its own preference based on whether he is a power user or a casual user, whether he is into themed ROMs or ROMs with stock feel, etc.
So you are just going to have to look in dev forums, read user posts, read OPs and then decide.
I can say so and so ROM is better but thats for my taste. You are not me. And some devs may not feel good that I left out their ROM.
So take this advise and happy flashing!

[ROM] [toro+] The Orca Project by Drew Garen (anyone tried this?)

Seems pretty legit so far, stable and plenty of options. Didn't see a Dev thread so didn't know who was running this ROM. Its available on goo manager under drewgaren. If the Dev wants this gone just let me know! Loving the ROM so far though!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Drew doesnt exactly have the best rapport around these parts lol, good dev yes but many would consider him shady for multiple reasons.
Didn't know that, knew ID seen his name many times before but wasn't aware of shady activities
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk
I tried his ROM a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't even boot. It was the updated one in the toro section on goo.im. the only time I don't have a ROM boot is when there's something wrong with it.
Booted fine for me and running beautifully with ak pirate kernel. May be a keeper!

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I just can't seem to stay on PA, the pie feature is cool but doesn't seem to work right all the time
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk
Yeah everyone says PA.. Honestly I think the orca ROM can do what PA does then more.. I been running it since the update and my old prob is the ram usage...
Edit: also has anyone else tried that awesome auto hide navbar? I like it more then pie.. IMO its more responsive.. And pie just took to long open its nice eye candy though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just loaded this on.
I have to say I like a lot of the features like auto hide navbar, custom colors in messaging, phablet mode, etc.
I tried PA for the PIE mode, but wasn't impressed enough to keep it loaded.
I'll let it bake for a few days and see if I still like it at the end of the weekend.

Care substantiate such a claim which has likely deterred a bunch of people from trying this rom?
Out of all the 4.2.2 roms out right now, Orca Project in my opinion is at the top right now. I've had no problems with it, not one crash, and it's very efficient with great battery life, especially given how many customizations it's loaded with. Best of all I never had to get off my pink unicorn at TWRP riding into Orca Project.
I'm running it and I have been for a while I just tried switching to jellybro but I missed this ROM I flashed back within minutes lol. But I still wanna know what he's talking about...
Edit: actually I just realized this ROM looks a lot like carbonrom

Taking somebody's work without giving credit is just morally wrong, but doesn't mean its a good clean ROM. I was thinking like he was virus, credit card logging shady.

Back in the DX days he was known to take other devs work and label it as his own. That being said orca runs nice but is riddled with scripts that dont work, are incomplete, conflicting, and proven tweaks to have no effect. I also dont like the idea of him trying to disable v-sync. Although I do like the name
