Straight talk At&t Sim + Tmobile Note 2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just wanted to make sure.. but from what I've gathered here I can buy a tmobile Note 2.. unlock it .. throw in my Straight talk At&t sim .. update APN settings and be rolling as good as I would with an official At&t Note 2 which won't be released till the 9th of Nov.
Just want to verify this cuz I really want to go to tmobile tomorrow and pick one of these up... just didn't want to regret it because of lack of radios and coverage ...
any feedback would be fantastic!

not sure you about straighttalk freq. i know simple mobile will work http://www.trysimplemobile.com/ im going to just use the 100mins 5gb from tmob for awhile, now i just need wendsday to roll in!!!!

You will be all set. I have been using my att, straight talk prepaid card for a few days. When I went online to request my unlock code, I had to choose the 7100 international version - there was no option for the T-Mobile version. The unlock code worked fine though.

Does anyone know if rooting the Tmobile Note II also unlocks it, or do I need to do something more to unlock this device for use with Straight Talk?

Rooting and unlocking are two diferent things

But you don't get LTE. I know this becuase that's what it is on nine on at&t

Straight talk doesn't offer that service.

[Q] Unlock code (sent from T-Mobile) does not work

To anyone who doesn't mind helping out,
I purchased a T-Mobile T-889 Samsung Galaxy Note II (4.1.2 Jellybean out of the box) brand new. I've had the phone for 47 days (I bought the phone on 4-9-13). T-Mobile made me wait 40 days (maintaining active account status) before sending me an unlock code. The unlock code they sent me was "07319707"
I did exactly as stated and the message keeps coming up "Network Unlock Unsuccessful". I've called T-Mobile 3 times since I received the code and all they do is escalate the problem to someone else but no one has e-mailed or called me back since. They told me if I try to enter it more than once that it might cause a problem which was after I had tried several times to do it.
I am fully aware of ppl buying unlock codes online and that if you have 4.1.2 that you must go back to 4.1.1 in order for the old code to work but I'm trying to avoid that.
If anyone has any suggestions / advice I would truly be grateful.
I am attaching a screenshot of the email from T-Mobile.
Thank You
I think the best option here is to work with t-mobile support and get it resolved.
I have always found the online chat support much more helpful than their phone support, give it a shot and hopefully this will get resolved.

Cipher,
This questions might be stupid but I feel like I have to ask...Does the non/T-Mobile sim card have to be currently "active" in order for the unlock code to work?
Thank You

Phone can be unlocked with an inactive sim. Just make sure you are using non t-mobile sim.
If the phone accepts the unlock code then it's unlocked but it wont show network on an inactive sim.

*status update* I spoke with T-Mobile today. They are emailing me another code...should be in my inbox by tomorrow. They also said that Wi-Fi must be turned off. I don't remember if I did that or not so that might have been an issue.
*GT-N7100*
For anyone reading this that has a GT-N7100 International Note II (my first one) who lives in South Florida (Palm Beach / Broward Counties) I found out today that I threw my money out of the window when I bought the T-Mobile Note II. Either T-Mobile is done or almost finished re-farming the 1900 MHz band down here and I was able to use my T-Mobile sim in the GT-N7100 that I own and able to average about 10mbps download on T-Mobile's network (4 more than AT&T). Around early April I tried using a T-Mobile sim (changed the settings properly) in the n7100 and couldn't even get 1 mbps download. I did not believe T-Mobile would go through with the re-farming in south florida because believe it or not we are not a top 10 market. For those of you who have an unlocked AT&T branded Note II who is still on AT&T... I strongly suggest you either try straight talk or T-Mobile itself and try to use the phone on T-Mobiles network...(Do you really need LTE when it's possible to get 14 to 15 mbps download w/o it?) For what AT&T charges for their service they are straight up ripping people off.

USA GSM

I flashed Omni today and just because I was bored downloaded Telinfo and popped my straight talk sim in. Booted up, switched to Lte/gsm auto, added the APN and BAM it worked. Nothing else, no build prop mod, nothing. No LTE though just H+ but it worked great. Anyone know why it worked as soon as I installed? Clean install BTW.
I've seen people say this also works with the CM11 nightlies and PA for our LS980. It's very annoying how we have to get through such hurdles to get gsm working on stock roms though because clearly we can use US GSM features on our ls980s but sprint and lgs software is making it painful.

I'll be buying out of contract next month and in going to ask Sprint to unlock it for me after I do. I seriously doubt they will but don't understand why they wouldn't it you were no longer on contact for them.

But by default, Sprint's unlock is only to use on international GSM networks, they still lock out local GSM carriers. You might as well use the tricks/mods etc folks are currently using at the moment to unlock for USA GSM carriers.

While this is excellent news, whatever the method is will not work on the AT&T variant.
This is a major deciding factor for me on getting the Note 4. Root is a must have just for AdAway and Xposed.

Because AT&T locks down all of their bootloaders. This makes it nearly impossible to root or flash custom roms. They've been doing this since last summer with the Galaxy S4.
Ya unfortunately. ATT's phone's for the most part have been rooted by geohots. Who now... Works for Google to fix the exploits for possible rooting. The ATT G3 was able to get rooted by Towelroot, I hope the same goes for Note 4... but I doubt it.
Yes, this is only for note 4's with unlocked bootloaders. It will not work on AT&T's or Verizon's. Possibly good news for the T-Mobile version though, as soon as we can get a stock rom dump to chainfire.
BTW: I would change my subject line OP so people don't get confused.
This is the first phone I have paid for not under contract. So as I started doing research u read about AT&T locking the bootloader. So last night I preordered the T-mobile phone just to have this ability. I did have to sign up for $50 a month just to be a customer but I will be a customer. I will cancel after the first month.

This will be my first time I am trying to convert a phone from one carrier to another. when I get the phone will I be able to just stick my existing AT&T sim card in to it and it work or will I have to wait for the 40 days and ask tmo to unlock it?
I know the iPhone 6/6+ came unlocked for tmo and you could just stick the AT&T sim card directly in to it and it would work.

From what I've gathered from the note 3 threads, we will most likely have to pay a website a fee to get an unlock code if we don't want to wait 40 days on contract for tmobile to do it. Chainfire released an app that had a "side effect" of carrier unlocking the sim for the Note 3. Whether that happens with the Note 4 remains to be seen. I'm just going to assume I'll have to pay a fee to an unlocking website.

I've had an htc one m7 with att and then wanted to sell it to a guy on craigslist who had t-mobile. you must sim unlock the device, it's a code. Just tell at&t or tmobile that you have a trip going to europe and need the phone unlocked to be able to use it. Then they will give you the unlock code. Put in the att sim card it will ask for a code then put it in.
What I did was I paid a guy on ebay 4$ to get the code and I got it within 5 seconds att was taking too long and the guy wanted the phone that day.
Guys are you sure that the T-Mobile Note 4 will fully work with AT&T?

No one will know for certain until the phones actually come out, but if you go by the cellular bands announced for the T-Mobile version, it should work.

No, and don't try it either.
CF-ROOT won't ever work on AT&T Note 4 because it requires an unlocked bootloader to achieve it.

Won't be able to tell you until tomorrow
For all of you who are freaking out about it being a locked bootloader...so was the LG G3 for AT&T...we just got TWRP on it last week. Took 3 months but it is doable from the right people.
It was called "Bump" and I have tested the unlock myself with full custom twrp recovery & root.

[Q] How to unlock Note 4 from Sprint

Can you please advise how to be able to do this ? additionally how can remove the sprint start up and sprint apps ?

on what carrier you are planing to use it? You cannot use sprint Galaxy note 4 on domestic GSM carriers like AT&T, T-mobile and their MVNOs (Straighttalk , etc). The phone can be unlocked for international GSM use (voice and 3G only, not LTE). Internationla unlock can be done officially through Sprint or unofficially via app in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
My question is how did you come across a Sprint Note 4? Did you not do your homework before acquiring the Sprint Note 4? Maybe you somehow got the phone for free? Why would somebody actually pay for a nice phone (released only a month or so ago) without knowing if it will work on a completely different network/carrier... then turn around and look for help on how to activate it on a GSM carrier? This makes no sense to me.
Im curious too.
Can a Sprint phone be unlocked and set up for use on ANY other carrier in the USA,
ie: Verizon?

I am pretty sure that if the phone had a clean ESN that you can activate it on Ting Mobile. I have also saw a thread where someone had flashed a T-Mobile Rom to the Sprint note 4 but they where not getting LTE of course I'm sure in time someone will come out with something stable.

Off topic here.
I came up for upgrade in June. I was gonna go Nexus 5 and then the Nexus 6 rumors started to fly. So I waited and along came the Note 4. After much research I ended up with arguably the best phone on the planet. Imo it is.
Unlock Code
I am in Canada, got this as xmas gift from my father in law
You can root and try Galaxy Tools 4 root users https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idone.galaxymenu
Or you can use this app from the S5 thread you don't need root with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2928250
Hope this helps a little

1. No
2. Customers can switch devices by calling on a different phone to CS or going into store and switch devices, no unlocking necessary.
3. Just switch Sim cards and edit and tweak where necessary or pay someone if you dont know how.
4. Correct, but no unlocking necessary.
5. That depends on the person.

Yes yes yes it can be used with other carriers in the USA. Are people forgetting about flashing of modems and firmware. What decade are we in 1960? Our maybe 1950 when phone were still two way radios. Remember sprint can't stop everything Samsung does in making their phone. Ask the right questions to right people get right answer. If someone in XDA hasn't figured it out yet just wait & keep on looking. XDA is also not the only place to look for answers to everything Samsung, sometimes Samsung is were to look or Samsung blogs. All I hear is everyone that talks about Samsung first thing everyone says is it CAN'T be done. When are the tech, crackers, & hackers of this world going to stop saying everything is impossible & realize we are the ones that make everything possible. If we are going to do that why do we become techs or crackers or hackers or even developers in the every first place?.... LET'S STOP PUTTING LIMITS ON OU OURSELVES & SHOW SPRING WHAT WE CAN DO! Sprint is not GODZ. We created what sprint & Every carrier in the world uses to try to put limitations one everyone with. Are we going to let the carriers use or phones against us or are we going to use them the way the phone manufactures wanted the phones to be used ( without restrictions of the carriers of the world.)
after unlocking your sprint device you can only use it with carriers outside the USA. If you are planning to use it with local sim cards after unlocking like at&t and t-mobile (gsm) then you cannot.

Umm if its not under payments u can
Yep once the phone is paid for per new laws that went active in Feb or March if you ask the carrier to domestic unlock your phone they are required to do it by law. Some models this will not be possible but the note 4 should. I think the carriers have a grace period to make this available. Not sure how long. I could quote the legislation but Id have to search for it.
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
B to the S. If you can unlock a 720t a note 4 can be unlocked!! Period!! It picks up signal just no antenna for that signal because the phone antenna is tuned in the wrong station or radius degree. I think if the people who can unlock 720t s can try the same methods with busy box or Verizon modems. Like guy said earlier " Si se puede"!! It can be done!! Just need to tweak frequency angles and remove face security options a little.
By law you can have it unlocked for a limited time, but that will not make the LTE radio magically work on your carriers band unless they support the same band. Or unless you know someone who can JTAG flash the radio to another carrier as well you will not be able to use the LTE/DATA band on a carrier that does not support the frequency. This is nothing something that can be done over USB or by a new kernel. This will have to be done with JTAG and by someone who has access to the various carriers radio firmware which is tightly guarded. So basically you will be using a Note 4 on 3G only. Might as well just sign up with SPRINT then, you will get the same service speed.

Anyone able to use this on AT&T? Heard it was not possible...

I want to use this on AT&T but heard it was not possible cause this new t-mobile unlocking app which will prevent this from happening unless you actually have t-mobile service for 40 days.

That's correct, only other option right now is to have someone who has tmobile (for more than 40 days) who purchased the phone and unlock it themselves under their account, then they can sell you the device.
false my sister has tmobile got s6 edge didn't like it compared to her iphone 6 plus so gave it to me as a early bday gift im on att and I am using it with out problems other than the lte band is a lil slower

That might your bandwidth speeds. Sounds like it might be an international model maybe? It would work on T-Mobile or AT&T, but you wouldn't pick up full LTE speeds.
