Any luck with that yet? I am in a similar situation. I flashed CM10 but miss the stock alarm clock. I am currently using Alarm Clock Xtreme from the play market which is the closest I have found so far.

Trying...
I am new to this so I have been trying to teach myself as I go. This is what I have done so far:
1) I managed to get the .apk and .odex from stock.
2) Copied them to the system/media folder
3) Matched the permissions on them both in ES File explorer.
4) Moved them to system/app
4) Restart device
This is still not working and will not install. I feel like I am either missing a crucial step (most likely) or it is not compatible.

If it's a Samsung touchwiz app it won't work for aosp roms, without some modification to the app itself, it's not compatible.

I recently disabled this service on my stock JB device. I took a look at the OS logcat file and was concerned seeing approx 100 errors every few seconds. Attached is a sample, which repeated along with lots of other mystery errors. Anyone know what it means? There were no signs of trouble using the phone, but seemed excessive. I had tried the widget once a few weeks ago, then removed it. No alarms were set. Am I over reacting? What does it mean?
Sorry for the html tags. Also attached link to full log file if anyone has any insight into this or the other errors constantly thrown. Is this normal?
Thanks!

This looks like it requires some hardcore reprogramming which unfortunately is beyond my capabilities at the moment. I am self teaching myself this stuff as I go and have minimal programming experience right now. Coming from TW to an ASOP rom can be tricky from what I have been reading.

CM Stock Dialer + Smart Dialing

I found this somewhere and finally pushed it. It is the standard ICS Dialer, but now with Smart Dialing FINALLY!
I used Root Explorer.
Rename /system/app/Contacts.apk to Contacts.apk.bak
Copy new Contacts.apk to /system/app
Set Permissions the same as the old Contacts.apk (rw-r--r--) [screenshot below]
Reboot
Requires Root (and RootzBoat 4.0.3 rom?)
Something tells me it was the custom CM9 dialer. So if this is an issue I can remove the links.

Thanks you good sir. I had been meaning to extract this from a cm based rom and try it out.
It works a treat, thank you.

Time to figure out what I did wrong ... renamed original file, pasted new file in folder and fixed permissions (all using Root Explorer) ... rebooted and had no dialer or contacts app at all ... hmm
Did you set permissions correctly? Should look like this
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Yeah I followed those instructions exactly and same thing happened to me, is this only for 4.0.3?
Yes, my permissions looked the same as well
Bad luck for me to

I was using this on an RootzBoat AOSP 4.0.3 rom, maybe that's a reason. Have you guys tried just installing it? I also did it on a clean install.
Try:
Clearing cache from Settings>Applications
Fix Permissions
Installing it
etc
I can't see an AOSP rom being all that different from stock.
Off Topic: I think our phones can take screen shots out of the box? I think I've accidentally took a few but never figured out the correct combination of button presses. I'd like to take a few screen shots of the dialer in action. Hopefully I'm not completely out of my mind and the Nexus CAN take screenshots natively.

Thanks, updated first post. Great indirect way to finally figure out what I was really after!
This is an AWESOME feature. MUCH needed. Plus saves me from downloading an alternative. I hope Google implements this into all of their stock dialer builds.
If this does require a custom rom, then I'd say its work it. I'm using RootzBoat which is pretty much pure stock. Doesn't feel any different then when I was on stock 4.0.2.
Worked first time on AOKP. Very nice, thank you for sharing.
Does not work on ARHD 2.1.1, possible because it's 4.02. Moved and set permissions correctly. Oddly enough, if I try to straight up install it it says "there is a problem parsing this package."
also running arhd 2.1.1 and didn't work for me.

And others have confirmed it IS working on ARHD ... so that has to be something else we are missing - perhaps CDMA vs GSM?
Didn't work for me. CDMA with rooted stock 4.0.2.

[Q] First Kies Backup on My New Sprint Galaxy S3 Contains 7778 'Other Items'

What's going on with this backup? Many of my apps from my other Android devices (HTC EVO 4G, ASUS Transformer 101, Kindle Fire) automatically installed when I logged into my Google account. I've also uploaded ~350 JPG's. But where did all of these 'Other Misc. Content' 7778 items come from? The backup via USB has dragged on for over an hour now with 2500 items to go. Kies provided no warning of the time the backup might require, gives no indication of how much longer it's going to take, and just cautions me not to disconnect my phone.
This is why I don't backup or restore with Kies. It takes forever and you get all kinds of stuff you probably don't want. I don't check the box to have Google back up my phone when I flash a new Rom either. I like to install everything fresh, especially with a new phone.

I understand...Kies backup sucks. I've since rooted the Sprint Galaxy S3 and am using Titanium Pro. Thanks for the reply.
You bet. Can't go wrong with Titanium Backup. I have system apps backed up from a couple dozen leaked ICS roms on my E4GT. If I flash a new Rom and something is missing that I want such as the ICS Calendar, I can restore it with TB.

do you have a copy of the asop clock anywhere? I can't figure out how to set the default alarm sound in the touchwiz one....
Sent from my SPH-L710
Not sure what clock you are talking about but I have a desk clock that's pretty cool. Are you familiar with the 7zip application for Windows? I think their is a Mac version, too and you can download it free. You can use it to extract apks from roms and then either add them to another Rom before you flash it or copy it to your pc then move to your phone. If you want an app from a Rom, download the Rom. Open 7zip and on the left corner of the app navigate to the Rom. Once the Rom is open, click on system>app and you'll see all the apps in the Rom. (There's a few in Data>app too.) Right click the apk you want and select copy, paste it somewhere on your computer, then add it to your phone. If you want to add an app to a Rom, open system app with 7 zip and drag and drop the apks you want into the folder. Exit 7zip by clicking the up button in the upper left of the program. I'll pm you the desk clock. If you install it, you'll get a clock widget that looks like this

How to restore GPS to its defaults?

Hello,
is there any way to restore GPS settings, well I think all the files, which are connected with GPS will need to be restored = ).
regards
Simply reflash your current rom with wipes. That should be enough.
Or, you can take the needed files from the ROM, and replace them on their places with root explorer, setting the correct ownership.

The second option seems to be interesting, do You mean that I can extract somehow files from, for example, PAC MAN firmware?

Every custom firmware - is a simple .zip file, that can be opened with winrar for example. So u can open it, get to the right path, where the file is, and take it anywhere.

ok, so far I found 3 files:
- gps.conf
- sirfgps.conf
- gps.tegra.so
Can I swap the last file which is basically a lib?

I dont think you have to, there are no settings stored inside, so the files must be identical.
Only needed if u corrupted it in any way, I think.
I can say nothing about danger of swapping libs anyway.

Well, indoors its bad (1 sat and no lock), but outdoors im quite satisfied with 7-9 sats and normal lock speed.
Most problems were on previous versions of CM - I had 1-2 sats outdoors, and at least 10 minutes to lock the first time.
But now, on the last CM version, i think its quite ok, have lock in ~1 minute without data/wifi, and a qute fast lock with internet availible.
I compare with moto milestone 1, which had an awesome GPS signal even indoors, and had lock in seconds without internet.

Lock screen

OK, this is strange. I was messing around in /system/app and somehow managed to get the stock Android lock screen. The only thing I did was copy HTCLockScreen.apk to /sdcard and tried installing it (which failed). After I restarted, I had the stock Android lock screen and now "HTC Lock Screen" is listed under downloaded in the apps menu in settings.
Here are some screenshots:

Sounds like you removed the sense lockscreen from system/apps leaving you with stock lockscreen. Copy it back and sense will likely return.

you removed the HTC lock screen.. so it defaults to stock android.
How is that possible, I don't have root. My bootloader is still locked. The file is still in /system/app as well.

Must be because you copied it to SD and it now thinks its a user app and can't run it.

I notice you said copy... Are you sure you didn't move it? If you only copied it, the apk should still be installed correctly.

No, since I don't even have root. Not even possible.
If what dottat said is true, this would be a great way for people who aren't rooted/unlocked to get a stock-ish experience.

What happens if you delete the apk from your SD card? Does the HTC lock screen come back? I'm wanting to get the stock Android lock screen, but I do like having the sense weather widget on the lock screen.

I could probably write up a post on it later. Also have a copy of the stock launcher that can run outside /system.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFF! I got it to work too! But there's a catch.
I followed everything OP did EXCEPT to try and install on SD Card. I moved the Lockscreen.apk to SD Card, rebooted, and nothing happened.
I did this again, but now I attempted to install the Lockscreen.apk and of course it fails. Rebooted the phone and stock lockscreen! :good:
Awesome! I wanna try this. Now if only you could do the same thing with Sense in general. -.-

My customized status bar

Here is a copy of my customized status bar.. basically a replacement systemui.apk
Copy to /system/app using root explorer .. change permissions to rw r r
If it reboots first you can change permission after next boot.
Change.
Transparent bar on home screen, black on others.
1% battery mod with multi color clear battery icons (I didnt create any icons got them other places)
Blue signal bars (red for 1 bar, blue for 2 3 and 4) (Still trying to figure out how to change to 5 signal bars).
blue icons for bluetooth, wifi, airplance, etc. etc.
New vibrate and no sound icons.
After reboot you can remove the systemui.odex file as it is no longer needed.
RECOMMEND you make a copy of these files first Sytemui.apk and systemui.odex to your sd card, In this way if the copy fails you can copy them back to system with difficulty between popups of systemui has failed messages.
THIS has only been tested on stock Tmobile MDL firmware..
If there is enought interest i will create a .zip to flash and flash back to normal..

because that is where anything that has to do with the statusbar and pulldown is placed in. the systemui. ie. togles, battery, all that stuff
you shouldnt be getting that message if you followed directions.. you don't install a systemui...you copy to system/app ..its amazing more phones aren't bricked by people that can't read.

Won't cause a brick just a boot loop or probably a force close. But actually updating it like that might work so long as the signatures match.

I'm not sure the signatures would match. becuase there were xml changes to add 1% battery mod i had to decompile and recompile it in apkmanager. Anyway I have never seen a systemui installed that way work. It would put another copy in user apps and leave the one in system just like when you update a system app such as maps (which I always remove the system apps.. not sure why rom builders put those in as whenver you update to newer versions it just wastes space is system).
