Lg optimus g or Note 2 - LG Optimus G (International)

I am thinking of either getting the optimus g or the Samsung Note 2 from Rogers, But my only question is are either of them compatible with Wind mobile. This is the specs from the rogers site.
Connectivity
GSM/EDGE Bands:850/900/1800/1900
HSPA+/HSPA Bands:850/1900/2100
LTE Bands:700/AWS/850/1900
The Note2 has the same specs.
I see it says Aws so I am thinking Yes butr I would like to make sure befor buying.

I have solded note 2 to buy optimus g.
It s more smooth than note 2 because of new screen tech - touch + lcd.

I have GS3 now, and kind of disappointed with the outdoor screen visibility. How would you compare the Optimus G to Note 2 in that aspect ?

sure lg o g is better display when outdoor.
S3 is more smooth than note 2 because of display tech.
NOTE 2 is rgb but when i tested i dont know why but Screen response speed of s3 is better than note 2... => s3 is smooth than note 2. Test this :d
And i dont think note 2's display is better than s3... i like s3 screen than note 2... althought note 2 is less blue/green tint than s3.
S-Pen is very good and new for me. But i think it's not need for me... when i test it about 1 week, i didnt use it more. It only for draw in smartphone but... draw in note 2 is bull sss. :

The Note II feels exactly like the GSIII, but big. Which is to say good, but the case feels cheap (I've owned the GSIII and a friend has the Note II).
I bought the Optimus G today. The case feels AMAZING. The software is a buggy pile of **** that can't be debloated. I'm returning it tomorrow.

I'm glad that sprint wont have a ton of bloat lie the att version does.
I played with a note today and the software was extremely slow and unresponsive. Didnt care for it

I think in canada rogers version bis going to be like the att with expandable memory and sprint version is going to be bell and telus. What I was wondering is if either the note 2 or optimus g are pentaband phones that can be used on 1700 aws band4? The nexus 4 is which is based on the optimus g but the internal memory is only 8gb or 16gb with no expandable memory is a pentaband and can be used on 1700 aws such as wind mobile in canada aand t mobile is US.

I'll offer up my two cents worth and see if it helps.
On the software front, TW on the Note 2 is what most will consider superior. It seems to add more functionality to the core experience of the phone than LGs UI. LG seems to go with a very minimal approach to skinning. Personally, i like some features and hate others. The biggest thing i cant stand is how the settings menu works in the Optimus. Also, the integration of the S-pen into the UI and apps really does seem to add a lot of functionality. Although, that being said, i haven't spent a large amount of time with my Optimus...Yet.
Hardware, well, that's just as important to me as software, and LG wins hands down in that category (at least that's my opinion). Before i get flamed, I'm not so much talking about internals as i am external. This phone is slick, elegant. It just feels damn good to hold and look at. Its solid and well built, quite honestly the best phone I've handled. Again, that's all personal preference. It has a good weight to it, but not too heavy. Really, just enough to make you feel like you are holding quality. My only gripe is the fact you cant replace that battery, not that i EVER have in any phone ive owned.
The note is a bigger version of the S3 in terms of hardware, and quite honestly, it felt cheap in my hands.
One last thing, and for me, its probably the thing i like most about this phone. I absolutely love the location of the notification LED. Honestly more so because i think it looks great than i think its a practical placement. I just wish it flashed more frequently and longer when there was a notification.

Thinking of selling my GNex for the Note

I really love this phone but I think I want something larger. I know I'm taking a step back in some regards but with the talent here at XDA I'm sure there'll be a super build for the Note shortly.
I am not making a statement in one phone vs. another, I simply have larger hands and find a bigger phone more comfortable.
Anyone in the Philly area looking for the GSM version let me know.

I've also been thinking about this.. The note just seems badass. I do love my nexus though.
Lol I am doing the opposite. Have an international Note I got in December that I'm about to sell. Ordered a GSM Galaxy Nexus from Expansys USA that will be here tomorrow.
PM me if you are interested in the Note. Its absolutely mint with $80 worth of cases (2) and has a SGP protector installed.

Damn. How big are your hands? Don't hear much "the nexus is just too small! " lol.

I definitely agree with the OP. As soon as it comes to Verizon, I am abandoning the GNex. Over at the Consumer Electronics Show, I held the GNex and the Note together and honestly I am much more impressed with the build quality and the size of the Note. Definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion, especially when it gets a nice CM9 port up and running.
Im buying the note and keeping my Gnex!
It's still the only device with ics on it and it's from google... That means no tw ( touch wiz) or carrier crapware...

As a fellow huge hand guy here, I think the note is just TO big to be a phone, at that size you are getting into like mini tablet there. I personally think that the nexus is the ideal size for me.
I wonder how can you put the Galaxy Note into your pocket. My pocket is even small for my GNex. Just saying.

Well, I've previously owned a GSM GNEX and sold it for a Note. Now I'm selling the Note and bought another GNEX.
The Note is 100% pocketable. People who say otherwise have never owned one. It's so thin and fits in any pocket I've ever tried. I am returning to the GNEX because I already have an Android tablet and want to toggle between ATT and TMO SIMs. I'm growing tired of ATT snapping the whip with unlimited data users (me) who use around 2 gigs. I have the 30 Tmo unlimited plan and will fall back on that with the eventual goal of dropping ATT altogether in June when my contract is up. Then I'll be a free agent and can pick from any carrier I want in the future.
That said, back on topic, the Note is a fantastic device and I've loved owning it...I just don't need it when I have an Android tablet (plus it only works on ATT).
I much rather keep the nexus because its the same screen resolution as the note but smaller and perfect size which gives higher pixel density and crispness.

actually the note is 1280x800 which is a tad bigger than the Nexus 1280x720 resolution, but because the Note has such a big screen, the pixel density is technically lower at around ~285 ppi
i have yet to hold a note in person, but from what i've read online the crispness/sharpness is almost identical to the nexus in terms of screen quality
i'll just keep my nexus until the galaxy S3 haha

Yep, it's a smidge higher. The Note's screen is pretty much amazing, so zero complaints there. It works well on the large screen...I actually found myself reaching for the Note more often than my tablet or laptop. It's a joy to use, but overkill for my needs (have too many gadgets - the GNEX is a good middle-ground).
Specs are S3 for all LTE Note variants.
And you guys complain about the SGX540 with an HD screen...the Note is even higher resolution.
I would be using a damn note if it had a pentaband radio like the Nexus
The two phone's screen size isn't even comparable. Nexus is basically a 4.3", Note is a whole inch bigger.
But the Nexus' body is really big for it's screen size, it's got a massive bezel. Comparing it side to side with the 4.5" galaxy S II, the nexus is huge - even though it has a smaller effective screen.

Yeah, if I was getting a Galaxy Note, and I was tempted. I'd get the International version with the Exynos and Mali 400.
Unfortunately no Android 4.0 (yet) and T-Mobile support are why I went with the Galaxy Nexus though (which it had an Exynos).
its a great phone until you plug headphones into it. Don't know how Samsung got conned by Yamaha into purchasing the last of the megadrive sound chips...

Never seen the note in person but I am assuming it is to big to wear on a belt?
I'm sorry but if you can get the Note in your pocket then you're wearing baggy ass trousers! Any professional with a decent suit would struggle to get the Note in their pocket, my Nexus barely fits in my trousers as it is!
personally I like nexus
So far last year I went from GS2 -> G Note -> G Nexus and my view is on my first month on G Note, I was liking it and it was badasssss. It uses Wacom technology and has pressure sensitive touch with S-pen and you can do exciting thing with it.
Most of my time I spend on internet so it was perfect but when I had a look at the nexus it just felt so compact I wanted to go back to compact phone.
Both phones have ups and downs but I think nexus offers more if you move around alot being compact.
I hear G Note 10.1 will be out in March so may have a look at that for internet then GS3 in april.

[Q] Did you come from the s3?

So I am trying to decide what to get. The note 2 or the galaxy s3. I do not mind the size, so that is not issue. If any of you came from the s3, why did you jump ship? What makes you stick to the note 2 and not go to the s3. Any ideas why the note 2 is better? Can you see a difference in smoothness from the note 2 compared to the s3. Since the note 2 has the quad core.
Gave mom S3 and bought N2 day one, S3 is the 2nd best phone out by the note does so much. I have a business and coach and it's size makes doing those things easy. Definitely see a speed difference, better screen. U can get us to the size I'm thinking of going bigger. Again get the N2 it will amaze u.

I used S3 for couple months, until I hold Note2 at my local mall, they have Samsung expo or w/e, and after comparing the size, I decided that I can go bigger, and I fell in love with Note2 screen. After switch to Note2, definitely no regrets, smoother, faster, bigger screen.
I love my Note II. Granted, I didn't come from an S3. But even still, if you don't mind the size of the phone then by all means go for it.
It is basicly a SIII but its newer, it has a better screen despite its dpi being lower because its not pentile, if you are on T-Mobile the Note has 42mbps HSPA+ instead of 21mbps, quadcore, bigger battery, and of cource the s pen.
Like I said, if you can deal with the size, which you will get used to unless your hands are just really small, its a much better choice. But in the end you can't go wrong with either one of them.
I had samsung galaxy s3 and got the iphone 5. A month later, got the note 2. Never looked back ever since. Iphone feels slower. Like ten times slower than my note 2.

I came from the MT4GS. When I upgraded I also bought my wife the S3. I do prefer the GN2 but find that the S3 is perfectly capable.
The gn2 is a tad smoother and the screen is obviously bigger. The s-pen makes the comparison a non starter, the note taking fcn is unparalleled.
The gn2 does make one hand use very problematic due to size. I am also paranoid about screen breakage due to dropping the device (this phone has stated to develop a rep for breaking screens). The camera is pretty darned good (though the MT4GS camera was arguably better). Viewing video content or games simply cannot be beat. The screen is beautiful. Let me say it again, the screen is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Did I mention I kinda like the screen. Oh, what is this lag thing that people on other devices keep talking about?
I hate the usb connection between the stock charging cord and the device, falls out with a stern look. My TPU case also puts a bind on the connector but that is my problem.
I don't know that it's $300 better than the S3 (price difference) at the time. I didn't pay that difference (it was about $100 with the deal I worked out). I certainly will not be getting rid of this device any time soon.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
Came from an S3. And would never go back. Smoothness is way better and the screen is the perfect size. Seems big at first but after a couple of days you totally get used to it. Quad core and 2GB ram, and the Spen is pretty handy. Since I paid 350$ for the note 2 and sold my S3 for 350$ it was a no brainer.

Note 2 is the way of bigger Doesn't bother you. I sold my s3 and bought it outright. Well worth it, where you root it or not. Fast and smooth.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
They are both beasts. The difference is the Galaxy SIII is the flagship, while the N2 is more of a niche item. Meaning the GS3 will always have more accessories and development. Both have 42+ HSPA capability, but the Note 2 has the true image and internals Samsung dreamed of. It is my 1st exynos device and I couldn't be happier.
I came from S3 for a very specific reason: GN2 has "hidden" full Trad Chinese interface as well as native Changjei and hand writing methods with Swype. Frankly, battery on GN2 is definitely better than S3. According to my usage scheme:
S3 lasts 3-4 hours before switching battery
GN2 lasts almost 6 hours.
Larger screen makes reading e-books easier while it still can occupy shirt pocket (Galaxy Tab Plus can't).

Well I had the S4 for a week before going back to an HTC one and now the G pro. I had the octa core version and it's a nice size, feels very comfortable in the hand, light and has a beautiful display. Nice battery life, great camera, love multiwindow and airview. Also charges fast. But it lags a lot, I mean a LOT. There's been a recent update so maybe that fixed things.
I just got the Optimus G pro yesterday and I love it so far. It's so fast and smooth, I love the transition effects, love the display (really amazing), love the big screen, battery life is the best, charges fast, also has removable battery and expandable storage plus it comes with 32gig. I prefer the G pro but the S4 is great also.
Development is better on the galaxy s 4 side but here we have ppl working hard to unlock the boot loader. Once that's done it's going to be an even better experience. We already have root. I personally would recommend the G pro if you don't mind bigger phones (and honestly it isn't that big). Otherwise s4 is also a great choice. It's up to you.

i had the s3, then went to the note2. i was about to purchase the s4 but bought the xperia zl instead. the small screen size (5inch) was a big factor in why a got rid of the zl for the og pro. try the og pro cuz the s4 is just a hold over to the note3.
I had the s4 for 2 days lots of lag! Og pro is definitely the better device

I was traveling with my GS4 when the lag got to me and I marched into an AT&T store and bought the Optimus G. I have no regrets. The GS4 has a lot of potential, but it's hampered by a poor user experience thanks to the constant lag. The recent update for the AT&T model did not resolve this.
The Optimus G runs buttery smooth all the time and, while it might not have as many features, most of the useful ones are covered and LG even has a few twists of their own that I find preferable.
I had note2 lte , i bought HTC one, s4 and g pro e988 (all lte version) within the first week of June, but now I only got s4 on hand, g pro battery actually no better than half of note 2 lte version, and the thermal control setting is too low, I found that it turn down the CPU frequency when temp reach 37c, once that happened, everything just turn noticeable lag, even got typing problem, tho I type quite fast.. at the end I keep my s4 and gave g pro to my brother and sold the others..

G Pro - The best phone nobody knows about

I've had every phone. I have the Galaxy S4, Note II, S4 Active, iPhone 5 and now the LG Optimus G Pro. I have to say the G Pro is leaps and bounds better than all of them. So why is it so undercover? Why does AT&T selling them dirt cheap and only AT&T? The phone is incredible. This is what I love over the S4.
- Notification light in the button. Awesome.
- 5.5 " awesome screen.
- Removable battery, SD card Same as S4 but but still awesome.
- Remote TV control IR blaster. Same as S4 but doesn't have to access the internet for shows. Just works.
- The videos don't have to access the internet. Hate that about the S4.
- No samsung bloatware. Just ATT crap.
- Quick button used for anything.
- Wireless charging out of the box.
- Interface is quicker than S4.
- It's only $99 on contract or $450 off contract. Cheapest smartphone yet.
- Comes with 32gb of space vs 16gb on S4.
I can't believe this is not a top seller. Loving this phone. The S4 is a great phone as well but this one is so much better and cheaper I can't believe it. Thinking about picking up a spare while supplies last. Don't see AT&T having this much longer. Looks like they are phasing it out already. Don't know why. This would have made a great Nexus device. Leaps and bounds better than the nexus 4.
I agree 100%.

B'cause the xda croud looks for ROMs and kernals and customs and it lacks them. And youtube and 'net is full of SGS4 ads and lacks G Pro ads. And every review says like "yeah, it's almost cool, almost... BAH! Look! it's camera is worse than in SGS4. Verdict: you better buy SGS4!" So ppl fly to stores and swipe SGS4 from set-outs. And who don't want plasticy SGS4 they go "Oh! HTC One is full metal body! I'll buy it! I really don't care for lack of microsd or battery life since is's metal"

I don't know about "killed" but a big reason I feel comfortable purchasing a phone is the size of the xda community behind it. A big community not only helps with development but also for a constant stream of information, ideas, reviews, and problem solving. Sadly, certain phones lack the huge user base and suffer because of it

I'm more than passing familiar with android devices and I have to say this is the top phone I've ever played with. With a few customizations it would also be the fastest since I have a crazy high bin on the CPU. All in all though even on stock this phone satisfies all my needs in a phone. I declare it KING of Phablets! Long live the king!
So ummm. A long stretch on top in android world is what .... 4 months? Lol
Yeah I get asked a lot what phone I am using and when I tell the person what it us they just look at me like a dear staring into headlights

[Q] Optimus G, Nexus 4 or S3 LTE?

Hello guys! I have recently decided to buy a new phone, and after some searching on the internet, I cannot decide between the following phones (they all have the same price from where I buy them): Optimus G, Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 LTE. I would go for the nexus because of the fast updates coming from Google and the powerful hardware, but I don't like that it has the buttons on the screen and I would really like an LTE phone because it is more future reliable. I like the Optimus G and the S3, but I can't decide between them. I like both interfaces, they have similar hardware, and also the storage is much bigger. I don't think that the Nexus has enough storage and I am afraid that Optimus G won't receive many updates. I mean it's stuck on 4.1.2 for quite a long...
So, in conclusion, I would like a phone that will receive updates (like 4.4 kitkat) and that has a nice interface and powerful hardware. So which one should I choose? Thank you in advance.

I say the S3 cos it has the most customizability. If there's any thing u don't like. U can change it. Also. The S3 is the best for gaming, has the best camera, and it is more well known. Which means anytime u want to know something about your phone. Search it up and I almost guarantee that you'll find it. Oh yeah. People have started to repair soft bricked and hard bricked Samsung Galaxies. Whereas other phones don't get that kinda support. (Geez I'm acting like I'm in a dam commercial).

I would like yto have lte because it seems more future proof and soon it will ne available in my city. i also heard that s3 has a poor quality built.
No s3 lte. Is worse than normal s3. Nexus4 or G. But n4 has no lte. It's a big deal,i see you're from romania. If you think 8/16gb are enough and you want the latest android on your phone, but no lte, then buy the n4. If you don't care about that, but you still want 32gb of storage,a sturdy device, with flawless lg ui(it's way lighter and better than samsung's tw),with a more than decent camera, lte connection, then go for the g. Make sure it will be e975. Other models will not have 4g in romania.

S3 doesn't have poor built quality, its the material used what people bugged about.
if you are in US, S3 will be a dualcore with 2GB ram, rest of the world its quad core with 1GB ram, left the LTE version i9305 which is quadcore + 2GB RAM. so search your options.
Can never go wrong with Optimus G!

Does the optimus g have good custom roms? My optimus one has very good and stable roms. And if i install a custom rom on it would the g be better than the n4?

Hi,
2 months ago I also had the same issue and went for the Optimus G. I left out the N4 because the 16GB maximum storage and the lack of LTE. Regarding the S3, from the hardware point of view, I don’t think it can compete with the OG.
OG
Slighty better CPU
Much better GPU
Better display (at least for me; colors more realistic)
Better materials; feels more robust
S3
Some say it has better camera (however, for a smartphone, my only complaint about the OG’s camera has to do with the autofocus. It's not a big deal but sometimes it gets a little erratic. I don't know about the S3; OG E975 has 13Mpx)
Lighter (the consequence of the materials used)
Probably better support regarding ROM updates (let’s hope LG has learned from their mistakes)
However, you can always opt for a custom ROM. OG is not as popular as S3 but you can easily confirm here at XDA that you have many options for OG. I’m still using LGOG original ROM (E97510H-EUR-XX) and it’s very fast and stable, even with 100+ apps installed.

Just my 2 cents on the display... S3 has a Super AMOLED screen, while OG has an IPS LCD. People's opinions on the differences are quite polarized, but in my book a good LCD beats AMOLED anytime, hands down. More realistic colours, less "cartoonish". And the display on OG is just awesome -- I have a couple S3 owners commenting on how surprised they were about it.

once you use a good super amoled plus you will never ever want to go anywhere no matter how greater the LCD screen is, but if you are like me or someone who don't like too vibrant colors (most people like vibrant color) newer LCD's specially from LG are very very Good.
also remember Samsung has altered the display of S4 and now S3 via software update to give you option to make is realistic color and many didn't realize this and never tried it.
Note:
people also doesn't know amoled has a very short life span vs the LCD panels, and this lifespan is about the color reproduction not the working life. so a 2 year old amoled screen will look terrible in-front of a new amoled and more than 2 year old amoled will give you strange color balance, many doesn't know this and say amoled is Sh=t.
Samsung set the standard with those over saturated colours. Being the no1 player on the market, the average user take for granted this is how a screen should be like. And the other manufacturers play samsung's game too. Take lg for example, although we have ips lcd,the coulours ARE in fact a litle over saturated. So,mentioning the colours is irrelevant. I would go for sunlight visibility, which is better for lg. The materials, also a plus for g. S3 lte has about the same custom support like our g. And i said it before, neck to neck, the kicks the butt of s3 lte.
