[Q] Optimus G, Nexus 4 or S3 LTE? - LG Optimus G (International)

Hello guys! I have recently decided to buy a new phone, and after some searching on the internet, I cannot decide between the following phones (they all have the same price from where I buy them): Optimus G, Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 LTE. I would go for the nexus because of the fast updates coming from Google and the powerful hardware, but I don't like that it has the buttons on the screen and I would really like an LTE phone because it is more future reliable. I like the Optimus G and the S3, but I can't decide between them. I like both interfaces, they have similar hardware, and also the storage is much bigger. I don't think that the Nexus has enough storage and I am afraid that Optimus G won't receive many updates. I mean it's stuck on 4.1.2 for quite a long...
So, in conclusion, I would like a phone that will receive updates (like 4.4 kitkat) and that has a nice interface and powerful hardware. So which one should I choose? Thank you in advance.

you want lte or you use or will use lte?
if lte is a must S3 has better camera
if camera is not an issue optimus G
you can always use cyanogenMod for future updates.

I say the S3 cos it has the most customizability. If there's any thing u don't like. U can change it. Also. The S3 is the best for gaming, has the best camera, and it is more well known. Which means anytime u want to know something about your phone. Search it up and I almost guarantee that you'll find it. Oh yeah. People have started to repair soft bricked and hard bricked Samsung Galaxies. Whereas other phones don't get that kinda support. (Geez I'm acting like I'm in a dam commercial).

I would like yto have lte because it seems more future proof and soon it will ne available in my city. i also heard that s3 has a poor quality built.

No s3 lte. Is worse than normal s3. Nexus4 or G. But n4 has no lte. It's a big deal,i see you're from romania. If you think 8/16gb are enough and you want the latest android on your phone, but no lte, then buy the n4. If you don't care about that, but you still want 32gb of storage,a sturdy device, with flawless lg ui(it's way lighter and better than samsung's tw),with a more than decent camera, lte connection, then go for the g. Make sure it will be e975. Other models will not have 4g in romania.

S3 doesn't have poor built quality, its the material used what people bugged about.
if you are in US, S3 will be a dualcore with 2GB ram, rest of the world its quad core with 1GB ram, left the LTE version i9305 which is quadcore + 2GB RAM. so search your options.

Can never go wrong with Optimus G!

Hi,
2 months ago I also had the same issue and went for the Optimus G. I left out the N4 because the 16GB maximum storage and the lack of LTE. Regarding the S3, from the hardware point of view, I don’t think it can compete with the OG.
OG
Slighty better CPU
Much better GPU
Better display (at least for me; colors more realistic)
Better materials; feels more robust
S3
Some say it has better camera (however, for a smartphone, my only complaint about the OG’s camera has to do with the autofocus. It's not a big deal but sometimes it gets a little erratic. I don't know about the S3; OG E975 has 13Mpx)
Lighter (the consequence of the materials used)
Probably better support regarding ROM updates (let’s hope LG has learned from their mistakes)
However, you can always opt for a custom ROM. OG is not as popular as S3 but you can easily confirm here at XDA that you have many options for OG. I’m still using LGOG original ROM (E97510H-EUR-XX) and it’s very fast and stable, even with 100+ apps installed.

Just my 2 cents on the display... S3 has a Super AMOLED screen, while OG has an IPS LCD. People's opinions on the differences are quite polarized, but in my book a good LCD beats AMOLED anytime, hands down. More realistic colours, less "cartoonish". And the display on OG is just awesome -- I have a couple S3 owners commenting on how surprised they were about it.

once you use a good super amoled plus you will never ever want to go anywhere no matter how greater the LCD screen is, but if you are like me or someone who don't like too vibrant colors (most people like vibrant color) newer LCD's specially from LG are very very Good.
also remember Samsung has altered the display of S4 and now S3 via software update to give you option to make is realistic color and many didn't realize this and never tried it.
Note:
people also doesn't know amoled has a very short life span vs the LCD panels, and this lifespan is about the color reproduction not the working life. so a 2 year old amoled screen will look terrible in-front of a new amoled and more than 2 year old amoled will give you strange color balance, many doesn't know this and say amoled is Sh=t.

Samsung set the standard with those over saturated colours. Being the no1 player on the market, the average user take for granted this is how a screen should be like. And the other manufacturers play samsung's game too. Take lg for example, although we have ips lcd,the coulours ARE in fact a litle over saturated. So,mentioning the colours is irrelevant. I would go for sunlight visibility, which is better for lg. The materials, also a plus for g. S3 lte has about the same custom support like our g. And i said it before, neck to neck, the kicks the butt of s3 lte.

Lg optimus g or Note 2

I am thinking of either getting the optimus g or the Samsung Note 2 from Rogers, But my only question is are either of them compatible with Wind mobile. This is the specs from the rogers site.
Connectivity
GSM/EDGE Bands:850/900/1800/1900
HSPA+/HSPA Bands:850/1900/2100
LTE Bands:700/AWS/850/1900
The Note2 has the same specs.
I see it says Aws so I am thinking Yes butr I would like to make sure befor buying.
I have solded note 2 to buy optimus g.
It s more smooth than note 2 because of new screen tech - touch + lcd.

sure lg o g is better display when outdoor.
S3 is more smooth than note 2 because of display tech.
NOTE 2 is rgb but when i tested i dont know why but Screen response speed of s3 is better than note 2... => s3 is smooth than note 2. Test this :d
And i dont think note 2's display is better than s3... i like s3 screen than note 2... althought note 2 is less blue/green tint than s3.
S-Pen is very good and new for me. But i think it's not need for me... when i test it about 1 week, i didnt use it more. It only for draw in smartphone but... draw in note 2 is bull sss. :

The Note II feels exactly like the GSIII, but big. Which is to say good, but the case feels cheap (I've owned the GSIII and a friend has the Note II).
I bought the Optimus G today. The case feels AMAZING. The software is a buggy pile of **** that can't be debloated. I'm returning it tomorrow.

I think in canada rogers version bis going to be like the att with expandable memory and sprint version is going to be bell and telus. What I was wondering is if either the note 2 or optimus g are pentaband phones that can be used on 1700 aws band4? The nexus 4 is which is based on the optimus g but the internal memory is only 8gb or 16gb with no expandable memory is a pentaband and can be used on 1700 aws such as wind mobile in canada aand t mobile is US.
I'll offer up my two cents worth and see if it helps.
On the software front, TW on the Note 2 is what most will consider superior. It seems to add more functionality to the core experience of the phone than LGs UI. LG seems to go with a very minimal approach to skinning. Personally, i like some features and hate others. The biggest thing i cant stand is how the settings menu works in the Optimus. Also, the integration of the S-pen into the UI and apps really does seem to add a lot of functionality. Although, that being said, i haven't spent a large amount of time with my Optimus...Yet.
Hardware, well, that's just as important to me as software, and LG wins hands down in that category (at least that's my opinion). Before i get flamed, I'm not so much talking about internals as i am external. This phone is slick, elegant. It just feels damn good to hold and look at. Its solid and well built, quite honestly the best phone I've handled. Again, that's all personal preference. It has a good weight to it, but not too heavy. Really, just enough to make you feel like you are holding quality. My only gripe is the fact you cant replace that battery, not that i EVER have in any phone ive owned.
The note is a bigger version of the S3 in terms of hardware, and quite honestly, it felt cheap in my hands.
One last thing, and for me, its probably the thing i like most about this phone. I absolutely love the location of the notification LED. Honestly more so because i think it looks great than i think its a practical placement. I just wish it flashed more frequently and longer when there was a notification.

Which is better S3 or LG Optimus G

I am looking into getting either the Galaxy 3 or the Optimus G. Both phones look good from the tech specs and wouldnt mind either one, but i want the better of the two. If anyone has something to share it would be great thanks. Also what do you guys think of this DCMA law that you cant unlock your phones anymore?
optimus g has a better hardware.but its carama is no so good.you also can think about nexus 4,although its quality can't match with optimus g.
Re: [Q] Which is better
The oprtimus g and nexus 4 are basically the same.. One just has the Google logo on it.. They are even designed the same. (How it looks etc)
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I prefer the IPS LCD of LG, look real. The Samsung LCD is over saturation.
Both perform very well, Lg is a little faster but Samsung gets better battery life (LG has a better battery hardware but the new chips use a lot of energy).
So just choose the one you think look prettier .
Re: [Q] Which is better
The ips screen is definitely more luminous, I find the S3's screen too dark for taste. I also love the classic, sober, tasteful design of the OG better than the curvy, plastic feel of the S3. And this thing just fly..

Re: [Q] Which is better
Also the resolution of the LGOG trumps the S3. You might think it's only a couple of pixels but load a high quality image from the web and you'll see the difference.

Re: [Q] Which is better
If you want to use your phone at least 2~3 years, then non-amoled display is good for your mental health.
Some people says burn-in makes them crazy even after using 1 year. It might specific case, but ordinarily after 1 year, it is said that unbalanced color/brightness appears in amoled display...

[Q] Wich phone should I step in?

I was reading about specifications in Nexus 4 and Optimus G, and they are almost twins, wich one is better?
There's a Oxygen like rom for Optimus G?
Don't know if there's a place for questions like this, sorry if I'm asking in the wrong section...
As many people say... If you care about being the first getting Android OS updates then go for the Nexus 4. OG is exactly the same just a little bit better (according to people words)
As far as i know N4 roms can be ported to OG so i wouldn't find upgrades a big issue besides personally the OG's design is better than the N4.
Nexus 4 has onscreen buttons, 16GB memory and 8mp camera.
Optimus G has capacative buttons, 32gb memory and 13mp camera.
As for roms there are fewer and slightly slower updates but they are still very stable. Not sure what Oxygen rom is, check through the development section.
Dont forget the G also has 4G. Both are good phones so all depends on how you will use it.

Yeah, I think I'll buy a Optimus G instead of Nexus 4.
I have a Optimus One (P500) right now, and there's a rom called Oxygen, it's pure android, even more pure then CyanogenMod.
But I don't mind being the "last" one to get android upgrades.
Thank you, guys. Your answers helped a lot for me to decide wich phone should I buy.

If it exists for Nexus 4 and is good enough, i'm sure someone will take the time to port it. I love G's design way more than N4. Recently had them both in my hand, N4 is a little bit slighter cause is all plastic but personally loved even moer my g.
The Nexus4 has one big plus, it's community and large choice of Roms and Kernel's. But apart from that i find the OG better, and if i had to choose again i would again go for my G.
I'm gonna bet that if you ask this question in N4 forum, most of people will recomend the N4 rather than OG
I've owned both so here are my views.
Both phones look great, I am preferring the OG looks slightly though with the whole 'black slab with a sparkly back'.
4.1.2 seems FAR more stable than 4.2.2, I had lots of crashes/reboots.. I'd go to wake the phone up and it'd not start so i'd have to soft reboot it. I do not get this with the OG despite identical hardware. In total I had 3 N4 all with crash/reboot issues.
Cameras on both are very so so (even the 13mp version)... It's ok for some snaps but don't expect loads.
The N4 used to heat up FAR worse than my OG does.
More screen room on the OG as no on screen buttons, it's also nice to have a menu key on the OG.
Less roms/cases/slower updates for the OG
Lots of good software features on the OG, Wise Screen (like smart screen for samsung), lots of customisation built in, LTE, some cool camera functions like time capture etc.

lgog? why not n4 vs n5? n5 is a lot better then lgog(no offense to lgog) because lgog is so slower because of lg rom, never gets any update(Hell they still on 4.4) and both have the same storage, but the n5 have way better performance, i saw lgog doing 11k on antutu(ok, benchs are not 100% ok but they do tell some history).if i would ask that i would do nexus 4 vs 5, then because of dev support and google support i would recommend the n5 just if u need 32gb or if u are a full android enthusiast that needs the lastest hardware .

To get a good opinion here you should tell the price difference on both phones, because IMHO don't make sense compare N5 with LGOG you should compare N5 with G2 and LGOG with N4.
Personally I prefer LG on both, even if I need to pay a little more.
AOSP is not for me and I'm happy with LG software goodies and performance, if I decide to void warranty I can do a lot with LG too...

1st i didnt say im mobile expert, but i used lg og on the 1st days(thats why i tried to flash lgog rom on my n4,went all fine but no touch), it was like the s3, it was not slow, but games that lag there, dont lag on my n4, games like gta vice city were doing lag spikes on stock and custom,on my n4 it dosent,ah also google chrome is wayyy more slower then on my n4, and both have the same hardware(few modifications).
Didnt say its a really slow device, but the gain of performance that i had on n4 can be only said because of pure android.
PS: yea that typo on 4.4 i meant 4.1.
Games are running better on the OG. That is fact. And about Antutu, the OG also scores higher. The only really big plus point for the nexus is the Google support.
at first, say, what you need, what you do with the phone, what do you like!
and 4,7" with softkeys ist the same as 5" without softkeys (yes, since 4.4 there is a fullscreen mode but not in all apps
i bought a o G because i like lg UI soo much, i dont like aosp!
quality in both phone is identic
Chrome lags on vanilla too. It's a crappy coded app. Period. Does chrome come as default browser on og?no.do you have lag on stock browser?again,no.So why do you bring to discussion a 3rd party app? Lg may have give use 4.1.2,but at least it's light and very well optimized.
The only thing i don't like about lg ui is the damn launcher. 4x4 grid and that hideous 320dpi is a no go.

no overlay on the android from LG at all.

I said it before, having a nexus is like having a supersport car. You will have ultimate speed, but no comfort. So,getting a good optimized device like optimus g won't be a loss. You have both speed and comfort.

Is This Phone Worth It?

Hey guys, I currently own a Nexus S and I'm probably gonna upgrade in about a month.
Was wondering if the Optimus G is still worth the upgrade? It has all the specs I need,
-Removable battery
-Expandable memory
-2GB ram
-4.7inch screen (as big as I'm willing to go...although I can compromise)
-Great custom roms
-Hardware buttons!!!
My only gripe is that from looking around this forum, it looks like developer interest might already be fading and the only reason I've been on the Nexus S this long is cause of the great developer support, I like my phones to last long.
If not this phone, then which? Thanks.
The E975 doesn't have removable battery.Neither the expandable memory. Make sure you buy a phone that works in your country.
The memory should not be a problem(you have 25.4gb available)
The battery is good,no need to carry an extra one in your pocket.
The display is great, way better than samsung's amoleds.
About the roms, yes, there are great builds, but,to be honest, nothing is compared to stock. now i'm runing on a stock rom, modded like it says in my signature.is fast as hell .If you are a flashcoholic, you have where to pick from(stock based roms, 4.2,4.3,even 4.4 roms).
The only downside is that LG sucks at updates. While you were used to nexus serie, which has pure vanilla and official google updates,it won't be the case for Optimus. But you won't miss it either. the software is as good as it can be, miles ahead of touchwizz.
My advice, yes, you can buy this phone,it still is top notch.

Yeah I know, it seems the only thing that does nowadays is the S4 and I don't want that so I'm just gonna suck it up and compromise.
About battery life, I've heard the Nexus 5 battery isn't that great either but I'm guessing rom/kernel hopping will take care of that for me lmao Battery issue of phones is why I usually narrow my search to removable batteries only but alas, can't have everything.
in UK,go for E975. What's the price you found it there? If you want,i can make you a great offer for a mint condition E975 . We'll talk on PM if you're interested.
@sunnytse1 if you don't know how to use the phone, please don't make these kind of remarks.
I'd recommend you getting a HTC One or S4. I mean they cost about the same as optimus g and you'll be able to flash google edition roms.
Optimus G is ok. I mean it is fast as hell and screen is quite good, but battery life sucks, glass back will shatter, and camera quality is sub bar. So if can get one cheap - take it. If not, go with Nexus 5 or other GPlay phones.
Totally agree with you about battery life, it's great! (Im using stock rom btw)
Lol....one and s4 at the same price with og?where is that?i'll give you mine for either one of those to. Just to sell it and buy a g2.slowly the g is improving. Latest update i received made my phone even snapier, and it has improved camera quality.we might not get latest android, but i'm ok if they improve 4.1.2. A lot complain about lg not providing update to a newer version, but if i ask why do they want it,they start to blabber non sense.i'm not minimizing the importance of 4.2,4.3 or 4.4,but,in my opinion,it's overrated.i rather have a stable 4.1.2,than a newer buggy version.

OP, youd be mad to go anything other than nexus 5 (or 4 if you're on a tight budget).
The OG doesn't have good developer support (just compare this forum with the nexus4 one). For the money the N5 is a no brainer.
Btw, I own a OG and a nexus 4. I always come to regret buying anything other than nexus as, like you, I believe developer support is a VERY important aspect of owning an android device.
Before you know it a kernel will be posted on the N5 forums that lasts much longer than your nexus s ever did. My n4 gets me 34 hours on a single charge with 3.5 hours screen on time running Franco kernel. It's bloody amazing what these guys can and will do.

You forget one thing, the most important : people like us are mealry 2%. The rest don't give a sh!t on updates or latest version.so,who do you think manufacturers make phones for?us or them?they want a stable phone for daily usage.and with the og(and not only) you get that. I was once into pure android, but when when i saw it lacks all of those features,i gave up. Now i want a litle bling bling and some features.it's like having a supersport car without any luxury on it,not even an air conditioner.great,i can drive 300kmh but i'm melting on driver's seat.

So if its possible for you, then take the N5. But if you wanna chose N4 or OG, i would suggest you the G because its just the better phone.

Wow, so much wrong in everything.
HTC One and S4 don't really cost about the same as Optimus G.
On the LGOG battery life doesn't suck at all (I have stock rom, no root and always get at least 30 hours from it with normal-to-heavy use), and the camera quality is very good if you use an app that isn't the stock one. About the glass back, wut?
Anyway, between LGOG and N5 I'd definitely choose N5.
between N5 and OG,i'll choose G2,but that's another matter. OP....choose whatever you like and suits you.
Well yeah g2 is better than n5, but I doubt you can find one for the same price. Also n5 will definitely have more updates than g2.
Omfg...just stop it already with the updates. You guys start to sound like a broken record. Lg makes great software. It's the most stable from all oem's. If vanilla is so good, then why are so many complains on nexus sections? In europe there no price difference between g2 and n5. G2 32gb is 450 euros,n5 16gb 420euros,if you are lucky to live in a country with play store. If not, you'll pay more. I'm talking about official channels not gray or black market. So,tell me which one is worthed.
