[Q] Do your Exchange sub-folder notify you of emails? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi All,
Problem in the past with Samsung: Exchange users that have subfolders with rules that automatically file emails into those folders, Samsung will not notify users of these emails. This is something HTC does and has done for a while.
Has this been fixed on JB with the GN2? Will the device notify you of emails in your subfolders?
For a brand that markets themselves as Enterprise friendly, I am surprised that this key functionality hasn't yet been integrated...

The stock mail app on my work Nexus won't notify new mail in subfolders. It doesn't on my personal Atrix or HTC Flyer either.

HTC One X, S, Amaze 4G, Sensation all do....

Do sub folder notifications work on the HTC One? I contacted HTC support but they couldn't tell me "because they don't have access to the phone"!
This is absolutely necessary for me.

Open your email app.
Select the account with the sub folders you want to sync.
Push your menu soft key.
Select Folders.
Select the folder you want synced.
Push your menu soft key.
Select Sync Options and set it to your desired settings.
Edit: set to anything except manual to get notifications.

Will you actually get a notification though? You can set sub folders to sync on the stock client and the Xperia Z. Whilst mail will be delivered directly there you won't get a notification.

While I do not get a badge on the email icon I do get a notification sound and a notification in the notification bar.

Perfect! That's all I was after! I'm glad it works on the One.
Edit: just another quicker then. On the lock screen personalisation settings, when you set it to productivity, what appears on the lock screen in terms of emails on the exchange account (including sub folders)?

problem with email in tf3d...please help!!!

hello all, i seem to be having a problem with my e-mail in TF3D and was hoping someone would be able to help me...my problem is this, 1, whenever i read an e-mail in tf3d(not opera) it does not register in my actual yahoo acct that it has been read (or deleted for that matter)...also, whenever i send an e-mail using my TF3D (again, not opera) it does not register anywhere on my phone or at the actual yahoo site that i have sent a message...it doesnt appear in sent folder, draft, outbox etc...its like the message was never sent bc theres no visual proof (but the recipient always gets the message even tho its not showing up)...im hoping someone can help me fix these problems bc i love using the tf3d email tab, but i need proof that i sent and received/read this messages...any help would be greatly appreciated
I suppose that your Yahoo account is either setup either via POP3 or IMAP on your device. If you used the HTC Mail Setup wizard, then it's most likely IMAP. Anyway, the point is you're using a pull method to retrieve your mail (as opposed to push).
When you read or delete email from your device, Yahoo doesn't know that. So, that's why it doesn't show up as read/deleted when you check your email via a web browser.
Solution: after you've read or deleted any emails from your device, tap "Menu" and then "Send/Receive".
By default, when you set up email accounts on your device, only the inbox is synchronized with the server. If you want to see items in your "Sent" folder, you'll need to manually set that up. Luckily this is very easy.
Solution: In your inbox, tap "Menu", then "Tools", and then "Manage folders...". Toggle on the folders accordingly.

hey, forst of all i just want to thank u for not only your quick response, but also for your thorough explenation...the only problem is, IVE TRIED BOTH RECOMMENDATIONS!!! (NOT MEANT AS YELLING, MORE LIKE FRUSTRATED)....as far as the deleted messages, i figured that would "update" yahoo so i "resent/rereceived" the messages so it would (hopefully update) but it didnt work...also, nothing is showing up n the sent folder that your talking about on either the phone or on the actual website...its crazy, i really dont understand it...and yes, i do have the little option about saving a copy of sent messages n sent folder checked...any other ideas???
I think I would delete the account and then set it up again manually. Try different port numbers. Better yet. Forward everything to gmail and use it instead. push is awesome (except attachments still don't work right, but imap is easy too).

Leave Email On Server

How do I set up my email so that it leaves a copy on the server so when I get to my laptop the message can be downloaded? I do my email on my laptop but need to be able to receive / send email from my HTC as well. Thanks!
By using POP account setup. I have POP on my TP2 and on my home computer... On my home computer I have set on the account settings that when I remove the email in my Outlook it will remove it from the server...

So ... what is the setting on your TP2 that specifies, "do not remove from server"?
There is a setting on the edvanced settings menu when you setup the account, or go to edit the account settings.

use imap instead of pop. pop downloads messages and wont mark them as read on the server or delete them after a month or whenever you set it, and some pop clients delete the email from the server after its pulled. imap is much more advanced and if you can get imap-idle you get push email support.
Leave Email on Server, and other Advanced Settings
I have been frustrated with this issue also. I use my phone for POP email when I am away from my computer. It is almost always business, and I need to keep records of communications in one place. Using Outlook, I archive all old emails to a network server. Since installing my current ROM, I have been unable to find access to the email size, signature and delete handling options. As a result, emails that I delete from the phone also get deleted from the server before I download them to my PC. This is a big problem since I sometimes delete messages from my phone without taking action - planning to deal with them the next day from the office. Dealing with multiple email accounts and up to 50 messages per day makes the phone very cluttered unless I regularly clear them out.
I just discovered the "back door" into the old WinMo style advanced email settings using a tip from another thread regarding email signatures.
I am using the Energy ROM (08-Sep-10, which I love). Here is how to get to the advanced email settings:
1) From any email Inbox (not the Sense screen) tap Menu/Tools/Options to get to the Messaging settings page.
2) Tap an email account on the list.
3) Tap "Send/Receive Schedule".
4) Tap "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the screen.
5) Choose your option under "When deleting messages:"
Other advanced options are also available this way, including email signatures for each account, as well as download size and scheduling.
I'm happy again!
Tim
Thank you for resurrecting this 9 month old thread.
I too thank you for posting this. I needed to change this on one of my accounts but had forgotten where the change needed to be made. You saved me lots of time searching.
Again, thanks much for the direction.

gmail notifications? only works for mail in inbox?

using the gmail app, and it works if i get a mail in the inbox, but not if it's in a label only.
any way of fixing this?
If you have a certain Label set that you need notifications for, you're going to have to turn off "skip the inbox" in your filtering.
well, that's carp! the whole point of labels is to filter the emails. might as well just leave everything in one big pile in the inbox
hopefully, there'll be a proper mail app at some point - the HTC one does the same thing but worse - it doesn't detect any emails apart from the inbox at all.
ta for the quick reply though
The default apps are rather rubbish, Have you tried K9 or anything else?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
k9? nope. off to google
Tried it, its the same as the gmail app.
Press menu.
Select settings.
Select labels.
Change setting for the label you want from none to sync all or however many days.
Easy peasy
found the option now. weird
ta
will see how it works out
I had no idea I could scroll in the label section

Well to be fair it's how Google DID design their mail. You have to remember they're search experts.
The problem is people still don't get the concept of "labels" and use them like "folders". If you were using folders it would make sense to have notifications for them. Most IMAP clients provide for this. Any given email can only exist in one folder unless you make a copy.
With labels a single email could have several labels. No copying necessary. If you had notifications for say three of the labels you used and one mail had three of those labels you'd get three notifications for that single email.
What I'm saying, especially with Gmail, don't worry about it all being in the inbox. As long as things are filtered and labeled appropriately you should still be able to sort them how you want using those labels and as a last resort you have the BEST email search engine on Earth provided by the company at the forefront of search.
i get labels and some do share 'folders', but in the end, i'd rather have 3 notifications for 1 mail than none tbh.
i can hope though
Search for gmail label notifier in the market. Works great.

[Q] Exchange folder sync

For Exchange mail accounts, I'm assuming you can select which folders you want to sync (have pushed to the phone) - correct?
And for multiple accounts, can you set different notification (vibrate, sound) types per account?
Go to the folders of the Exchange Account and show all folders. You will then be presented your folders. Select the folder you want to sync and tap on that folder. It will then sync and bring it up one level and you will see that folder below your main inbox.
You can't set custom ring tones to each account.
1. yes (at first only inbox will, but you can view the folder and say syncronise this folder)
2. no, not at present
My company just migrated me to Exchange last night. I'm able to sync my in box and the folders I want to sync but I have rules on Exchange that move some emails into certain folders. Once this happens I'm not getting notified that I have a new email from that person who the rule is set for.
Any suggestions?
It doesn't support alerting when items appear in subfolders of the inbox. A workaround would be to turn those rules off so messages arrive in your inbox. Then run the rules manually periodically to clean it up.
Does it at least update the Hotmail/Outlook Live Tile when a new mail comes to the sub-folder?
Without any sort of notification to the user that a message is there, it's pretty damn useless to use. Mind as well just use POP3 or IMAP on a 30 minute poll or something instead...

No it doesn't update the tile, you can sync the sub folders but if you don't select all folders to see if there is anything new there.
The only work around I could find was to create a rule to just move a copy to the folder and leave the original in the inbox. It is a terrible solution but at least it kind of works.
I don't think this is a WP7 issue since a co-worker has an iPhone and he has the same issue.

[Q] Having an issue with email deleted from server

I just replaced my Tilt with a Tilt 2 and am now having an issue with my emails being deleted from the server when I delete them from my phone. I went into the advanced settings to try and change it, but the only options I have available are "Delete Messages from server" or "Move messages to server Trash". I would like to know if it's possible to have it set up the way it was with my old phone, whereas, when I deleted an email from my phone, it stayed in the inbox on the server.
I have looked for a solution, and I am not sure if there is one, but I *did* search for an answer before posting. Everything i have come across pertains to pop3 and this phone automatically configures the setting as imap.
I am accessing gmail, if that matters.
Is there a fix for this?
I have already read about moving them to a folder, which is the same thing to me as them being moved to the "trash" folder. I don't want to move them. I want them kept in the inbox.
Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is driving me nuts!!!
I had the same issue, i just select "mark as un-read" on the phone after i read them. if i forget to do that , the mail will just show up in my "old mail" folder.. then from my computer i deal with them..
That won't work for my initial request. I want to delete them from my phone, but keep them on the server. If I mark them as unread, they are still on my phone. Is there a way to change the email setting to pop instead of the default IMAP? I believe that was the setting on my first tilt, but this one automatically sets it as IMAP.
Thanks.....

You need to tell us which type of email you are using (Google, exchange, etc). But what you describe is IMAP behavior. Pop servers don't do that.
