[Galaxy Note2 TOOLKIT] Drivers, Backup, Root, CWM, EFS, Flash to Stock -SOON FOR i317 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

As many are wondering, I'm posting this link in advance. The OP stated he will place a thread on the AT&T forum, but many here cannot wait for this good info.
Find it on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155
I understand it now is supporting ATT (SGH-L317) & ROGERS (SGH-L317M)
All credit to mskip :good:
Please thank him on his OP!
<<EDIT>> THIS TOOL IS NOT READY FOR i317. i317/i317m version will be supported on Tool v2.3.1 <<< This has not yet been posted in the OP.

Says AT&T version is only available in the latest (2.3.1) version but the OP only has 2.0 and autoupdate doesn't work unless I donate I guess.

2.3.1 allows for return to stock ROM?

2.3.1 is the recovery

Anyone else having trouble with mskip's donate page via paypal. It won't let me enter anything but an UK address. I was hoping to update and try out his toolkit, but it doesn't seem like it will happen.

I'm not trying to be an ass hat but this thread shouldn't be here yet since it doesn't really support our devices until mskip updates his toolkit!! someone miss-read and tried using the toolkit on their SGH-i317m note 2 and soft bricked their phone, now he has to wait for an official firmware release by Samsung

I do agree with you Turilo. At the same time, people do need to read the OP message. He does state that i317 is only supported in v. 3.1.2 and you need to be a donator with auto-update to currently get this support. Also, if you load up the program in v. 2.0.0 there is no mention of model # i317, and it warns you to not try flashing files intended for other device models.
I feel sorry for them, but we all have to learn this valuable lesson some time in our modding career. Always read the OP notes.
That being said, it probably would be best this thread is closed until mskip posts his updated version on our forum. Its best not to mess with the benevolence of the kernel/bootloader devs. They are few and far between, and we need them.

Please do read the OP notes, always. I didn't intend to lead others to soft brick their phones.

DONT WANT A BRICK? Check here

As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.
Also wind mobile an Tmobile are interchangeable, just don't flash the modems.
ONLY FLASH THE ROMS IN THIS FORUM!

I second this, guys PLEASE don't risk it. It is not worth it. Right now I think most devs are working on their own ROMs, but we should have a patch soon to allow cross-compatibility.
think some peeps are confused by whats before tmo development. (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III) just my opinion but good idea on thread.
Mr Highway:
Could you start another thread for Windmobile Android Development?
In the past all Windmobile phones are just T-mobile phone rebadge.
In this case, it does not in terms of kernels....(and may be baseband)
I am working on this so that all roms will work on all carriers

AMEN!! Some fool I know ALREADY called me with a bricked gs3! I'm gonna sit back and let the pros do their thing, and that's DEFINITELY the safest bet!
thanks for the reminder and jsut to make sure ....
i have rogers sgh-i747
i want to be in this AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III - xda-developers thread for everything correct ?
and not in the Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 thread ?
I keep seeing posts about ROMs that can work on these variants of galaxy S3s. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the ROMs supposed to be specific to GSM or CDMA? When I flashed windows based roms on my touch pro II, that was one of the things to look out for. Is it possible to create a ROM for all carriers?

Yes and no.
With the use of aroma-installer, we could set it up to detect your phone type (well, not we....I don't know that much about it but I saw the thread discussing this) and aroma would be able to install the necessary files based on your phone.
As of now, for instance, mine works across all GSM carriers. clark44 is current working to get everything switched up so it also works for Sprint (mostly appears to be the apk files and XML files) that are specific to the phone. As of now, he has it booting and working fine except there is a large rush of FCs on initial bootup but then everything runs fine.
I wasn't even aware you could make a patch to allow cross-compatibility! XDA never fails to surprise
Just a thought, but maybe they could do it like the SlimROM on multiple devices. He has a common base ROM and another flashable for each device supported. It works out perfectly and multiple ROMs for multiple carriers.
I figure it will be easier than doing it for different devices since I read that all the US variants are essentially the same. Not sure but worth a look.

I use it for the Vibrant

Will there ever be any SGH-T999V development?
Does anyone think that someone with a SGH-T999V Wind Mobile variant will ever be able to root their phone so they can overclock the cpu, etc?
Why not? I am using a custom rom and overclocked to 1890 at the moment.
Just use the windows way to root. I knbow it works
I have not tried the toolkit.
If you are going to flash a custom rom just make sure it does not contain the boot, modem and amss file in the rom that you are flashing.

I'm more curious as to what exactly the differences are between the 2 variants (i.e. t999 vs t999v). What could possibly make them so different from each other that ROMs from tmobile wouldn't work on wind GS3?
What if you accidentally tried to flash i9300 rom and your phone is not turning on.
With the forums changed I accidentally flashed the wrong version rom on my phone. :crying:

Thanks for the link, unfortunately the phone will not go into download mode for odin, it won't even turn on.
After doing some research it looks like I have to fix it through jtag.
I think I could do it, but you need some expensive jtag box that connects to the computer(It's called the Riff Box), but it would be cheaper if I just sent my phone into here it costs $60. Not ideal, but not a complete disaster either. Unless there is some other way to JTAG I am out of options.

How to root tmobile galaxy note 2 (10/25/12)

This is not done by me, i am just a tester. to confirm this and own a SGHT889 tmobile galaxy note 2. It works perfect. All credit goes to the individual or inviduals provided in the. 2nd link.
Again, ONLY ROOT VIA FLASHING RECOVERY THROUGH ODIN AND INSTALLING SUPER USER VIA CWM. IF YOU DONT DO THIS YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBKE IF YOU DO.
Make sure phone is in USB debugging mode on settings then developer options
1) Download note 2 samsung driver and install
2) Run the toolkit and select XXALJ1 OPTION 2.
3) Select option 2 rooting options
4) Select option 4 to flash cwm, and superuse.
5) Once installed and your device boots into recovery flash superuser.zip

Thank you very much! That worked like a charm.
I couldn't get it to see the phone, might have been impatient or missed a step. Should the phone be in download mode? Or just on?
I used Simplelife's method, with odin, and that worked like a charm.
I truly am thankful for the work everyone did to figure this out in such a short amount of time.
Friendly reminder: "How to root" threads don't belong into a development board - unless it's a exploit, you yourself, coded from ground-up.
Please watch WHERE you post.

Worked awesome on my T-mobile Galaxy Note II - Thanks for sharing! :good:
can somebody please provide a link to the drivers? I can't find them anywhere and I don't want to install Kies... thanks
Works like a Charm. Thanks a lot. I love the original ROM, just needed root access.
This thread is being closed not because of any wrong doing, just for the fact that the Toolkit supports kernel rooting and full support for TMobile models now *HERE* so there is no need for this thread anymore.
Also the link in the first post is for V1.0.0 which is out dated and as this will probably be updated a few times in the next few days to add new devices its best for people to download directly from the thread to get the latest version.
Thanks for providing the info to your fellow users

[NOW PUBLIC] Team Codefire Presents: Project FreeGee for Bell, Rogers and Telus

We now have working exploit for out Canadian friends .
We are publicly releasing Bells, Rogers and Telus. This is the same 0.5v that removes LG Security.
Further details can be read in thecubed's post here.
Due to the nature of the varients make sure you download the correct file!
Bell:
http://downloads.codefi.re/shelnutt2/optimusg/bell/private/freegee/FreeGee-0.5_Bell.zip
Rogers:

Currently, the download is Windows-only. I will make a OSX/Linux/Windows version soon
Also Bell, Telus and Rogers are now supported by the 1 click freegee app! This is $1, and the pc method will always remain free. This is just for those lazy and want to donate .
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.shell.freegee
Worked perfectly! Thanks again to Team Codefire for high levels of awesomeness.
Now bring on the roms! lol
Thank you! :highfive:
EDIT: I'm wondering if someone made this flashable, we (bell, rogers) would be able to flash the BASE ROM from the att forum and then flash this since at this time we don't have a rom that's flashable yet..

If it disables LG Security does that mean we can safely uninstall google apps like movies and books?
Im just trying to make sure I have all my ducks in a row here, so I appologize if this is a redundant question. Which recovery are we supposed to use?? In the Sprint development forum there is a tethered version of CMW. Do we use that?? Or, is there something included in the FreeGee exploit? Or even still, do we just use the stock recovery?

Freegee includes CWM. Once it's done you can boot into the bootloader and get to cwm, or use adb and reboot into recovery that way (easier, because we can't see what we're selecting in the bootloader at the moment, vol down twice then power gets you there )
Just so I am clear you arent able to see the fastboot options because of LG's doing right? Not because of the exploit made here? Or was it because of the exploit and that was just an unfortunate side effect of doing it this way that would be fixable in a future update?

Galaxy i337 mf3 rooted, looking for custom rom..

Hey guys, just joined the Android side after a long time with iPhones. Glad I made the switch!
Anyways... I'm trying to get rid of the stock WT and go with a custom rom that's less bloated but all custom roms seem to not support the i337 mf3 baseband.

Hello there,
I suggest hanging out in this section where us AT&T S4 users are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2257
As for your issue. As of now there are no methods to install custom recovery or ODIN on MF3. I'm on a same boat and we're waiting on Hashcode's safestrap. Which is essentially a workaround for our S4 locked bootloaders.
If you are curious or have any questions feel free to research on google or search in the provided section url I provided.

What you saw isn't totally incorrect. What is actually going on is the custom roms are actually installed on official MDL firmwares.
The developers have MF3 updates incorporated within their custom roms hence why they're labeled as MF3 in their topic titles.

Can you screen shot your kernel information in settings and then about phone so I can see what it says for the rooted kernel. And copying the entire system to use it on the other phone is possible. Just depends on certain things.
I guess I should of bought a rooted one myself...........
think that no one has the root yet on this phone, so, pay attention to the instructions that forum masters will give to you. You could be a HERO for the entire Sm-n920a community and users hahahah. Btw, i don't know your knowledge about this things but yes, is possible to do this. Not to mention there's a big donation for anyone that finds a root method. So if you really have a rooted at&t note 5 there could be money coming your way.

There's no root for AT&T Note 5 SM-N920A if you are running Marshmallow with the Nov security update! If you are on this version you are screwedededed!!!! I tried every type of way to install firmwares PH4 ==> PH2 and I tried every version of firmware I could find on this planet. I have tried OGG. I have tried crashing my installation, then trying to downgrade.
Long story short; If you have an unlocked SM-N920A running Android 6.01 with Nov Security Patch I will definitely be donating to you if you upload.
