There are 3 different types of screens for the HoX. Some manufactured by sony, others by acer and the rest by sharp. Maybe that might be the case and there's no actual fix to that. Having experienced two type of screens.
I had the acer screen and my friend had either a sony or a sharp. We never checked, however, i can tell you that both were very nice.
While mine had whiter whites, his had much nicer, vibrant colors. Nothing to be butthurt over IMO.

Also, this may not read accurately depending on your rom. Mine reads "0003" but I know I have an Amoled screen. Any reason you need to know your screen type?

I can spot a dInc AMOLED from 10 feet away. They are VERY easy to identify because the black is truly black and they are dim as hell more often than not.

If loonatik owned an AMOLED..

I also have a 0003 hardware version with the amoled screen, so hardware version not super accurate. An easy way to tell though is to put a drop of water on the screen to magnify the pixels. Amoled screens have a sort of checkerboard red/blue pixel layout with green pixel columns to the right.
Ok the only way 100% accurate is to remove your battery and look right below the blue tooth logo.
If you read
ADR6300VW or ADR6300VW2
you have a AMOLED
If you read

I DO. I was trying to find a ROM for it last night and as much as I like the contrast qualities of the display, the off colors aren't what I'm used to anymore. I guess I shouldn't say the AMOLED just looks washed out; it looks washed out in bright light. I really have spotted them from 10 feet away though.

This isn't at all complicated... Just look at the display. It's VERY obvious what kind of display you have based on a few characteristics. Is black really black? AMOLED! Does a black screen glow? SLCD. Do you see an RGBG pattern of pixels under magnification (through a small drop of water)? AMOLED. It the white a true white? SLCD.

Now the numbers above the model the one that end with vw3 is the version of the phone. vw3=third version of the incredible, slcd screen

Yeah, but refurbed devices are coming out with all kinds of numbers so that sure isn't a reliable indicator. I'm trying to provide an easy, completely certain way to tell. Turn on the camera, go into a completely dark closet or bathroom and see if it glows. Glowing screens are SLCD.

not always.. with the brightness turned up my AMOLED isn't completely black. That isn't even turning it up all the way either
if it was a lower brightness setting then it is entirely black in the dark.
AMOLEDs have darker blacks but it doesn't mean that all blacks will be pure pitch black, so this way is not a good indicator.
Best way is through phone settings (not that complicated either)

Just sold my HOX! x-(

I ordered my HOX from ebay after reading all the positive reviews about it's crisp screen. But as soon as I powered up my phone and went in to the setting screen I could clearly see the dull yellowish tint on the whites. I had come from super amoled screen on SGSII. So the screen looked too warm for my liking, blacks were also not that deep.
After updating the device to the latest firmware, flashing 4 different custom ROMs, the yellow tint did not go away. Now today after two days I just decided to sell it for $120 less than what I had bought it for. $120 gone in vain.
From now on I will always buy electronic stuffs before testing it personally, and will never trust all these "REVIEW" sites.
You could just go look at it in a shop. I did, and compared it to the note screen. I preferred the one x screen.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
As far as I know the yellow tint issue stops to appear after a few weeks of usage. Was the same issue on the iPhone 4. And how the hell can you dislike that screen? You are probably the only person on this planet who doesnt like that screen. I for example hate AMOLED screens. The colors are just too fancy and pentile is a pain for the eyes (okok I know SGS II has no pentile). Sold my One S just because of that ****ty screen (fantastic phone but that screen! ) and got the HOX instead. Don't regret it so far.
Well the yellowish tint is manufactures defect I think if you went to htc before selling it they might fix it or give you replacement. The fact that the screen is warmer that super amoled plus is something you will forget after using the device for couple of days
Finally I'm very happy with my one x and still strongly advice everybody to buy it
good luck

Sorry to hear that. Always go to forums and look for review rather than websites. You'll get honest reviews. Gladly I got one without any issues. Since i'm one of the early adopters I got Taiwan made which is very rare in India we alway get China made which had a lot of problems.

It's nice that you're loving your HOX, good for you.
I doubt that it would have lost it's tint, because it was way too yellow. I did not DISLIKE the screen but I was not getting used to the warmness(personal preference I guess).
Yeah the colors on amoleds are over-saturated, but hey I like it that way.
Wish HOX had One S's screen, then it would have been a perfect phone.

Your joking right? The One S's screen looks horrible compared to the X's. I've compared them in store. Maybe there was something wrong with your device, the screen on the X looks much better than the GS2 in my opinion. Much better colour accuracy and much crisper. The GS2, while a great screen, have very blueish whites and over saturated colours

My early desire went to my wife when I got a dhd, after a few days I couldnt look at the desire anymore without it burning my retinas, she always loved the screen, now she has had my old dhd for a while and when she looks at the desire she can't stand the sickly sweet colours either.
I suspect the OP is an employee of Samsung, either that or just a troll with nothing better to do.

Even though sometimes i regret not waiting for the s3, even with all the issues i had with my One X i still find it a great phone. even if i did not root it and etc there are still many good things that i love about ie screen better build quality and etc. So for the OP here to post here and then as well on the s3 forum as well at nearly at the same time smells like trolling to me so on that note might as well let this thread die down and let it be
I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience with your HOX. Though, it's pretty safe to say that you've just had bad luck and just got a poor quality / broken HOX. I don't have any problems with mine.
I love amoled screens really that's why I bought a nexus in the 1st place, but the one x screen is better indeed

Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
There's a sticky thread for reviews, no need for a hole new topic to complain about the screen....
LOL @ the ppl who insist that Super "overstaturated" AMOLED is superior to SLCD, particularly SLCD2. Who on earth would enjoy looking at a screen that has a distinctive blue tinge all over it? And true black? 90% of web content has more than 1 colour black you know and 70% of it has light colours so blue tinge is UNACCEPTABLE. I dont even need to have "tech" eyes to see how weird AMOLED screens look the first time I'd seen them.
And so now everyone who sells their HOX feels the need make a thread to mark their grand exit? If so I encourage EVERYONE who is going/ in anticipation of buying/ thinks of buying/ hesitantly considers buying etc. an HOX to make a thread to make their thoughts known to the world.

Hi!
I had my One X screen repalced, but the new one is not as bright as the original, what could be the causes?

Different manufacturer. There are 2 types of panel for the HOX. One of which is dimmer and also cooler colour temperature. If your whites look bluer or colder then you have the dimmer panel.

Bad news, this is not the case. The same screen on a diffrent One X is bright as hell, like it should be, but not on mine.. Any other ideas? The phone itslef has a waist-height fall on pavement, sahttered the glass, the screen was ok. Now the repair guy is startled and doesnt know what to do - why the screen is dimm, could it be a backlight problem caused on the motherboard?
It might be a cheap, non oem screen.
How much did you pay for it, proper ones are not cheap.
Its 85Ls so in dollars its about 170$, but its hard to compare because of the currency.

How many versions of hox screen are?

Hi everyone!
I am obliged to change my screen since I spilt pure alcohol that caused damage on the screen of my HOX.
A good friend suggested local(in my town) repair guy (tested with excellent results for many years).
Not beeing present my friend told him my problem and he replied that if indeed the screen should be replaced he has to examine the phone to make sure he orders the exact same as "this device has come up with many different screen with minor changes".
Are there different versions of the HOX screen?
I never heard anything about this so I am wondering if you guys do........
Odp: How many versions of hox screen are?
It could be true. Some people have problem with yellow tint on the screen, some with a blue one and some with screen working as it should. So it could be that there are some variants of screen in hox

AW: How many versions of hox screen are?
Definitely different screens!
I got about 5 HOX and there are ones with a really great white display and ones with yellowish screens. After a software update the tried to fix this and depending from the screen used the calibration of the colors changes but there are definetly a minimum of 2 screens.
You can search this forum, it was discussed about a year ago.

As far as I know, there are 2 versions. A warm and a cold version. It has nothing to do with the temperature, but the way the colours are displayed. Both are great quality screens. The difference is not that big.

2 manufacturers actually. Sharp which is the better display with a more balanced blue display and Sony with the slightly yellow displays.
There's three o' 'em.

Might be just me. Im really neurotic when it comes to my tech
I've also got this problem, it might not be that easy to see on the picture I've attached, but you can at least see that the colors are not the same. I've also tested the screen with an app called Screen test, and it seems to completely fail the Checker board test under Resolution and Horizontal resolution (1 pixel) makes the display flicker.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if it's due to the HTC Color Enhancement, or if the screen is bad. The stores says it's just a different color temperature on the screen.
The the light in the proximity sensors are IR captured by the camera, so I can't see it (except through another camera ofc)
