Its your money. The GNex is $350. Its a damn good price for a damn good phone. You just have to decide if its worth the money to you.

The main reason I'm chosing the gnex over the one x and the galaxy s3 is because of the amount of xda support for it.
My only concern is future support of high end games and by the time the next nexus is released the gnex will in a way become "obselete".
i had to choose between the s3(international) and gnex so development wasnt a issue. but from what i have been seeing with all android devices other than the nexus series related to updates being either slow or not there at all, i decided to wait till November and buy the new nexus
GNex is awesome! No need to get the S3 in my opinion. The Speed with JB is insane
If you are a poweruser don't even think about the S3, had a S2 for 6 months and it was a nightmare. Lots of issues with custom roms.
If you are concerned about games then go and buy the S3.

If you only get a phone every 2 years because that's when you get your upgrade, then I would probably skip this Nexus and either wait for the next or go with another phone. I used to care a lot about Developer support, and I still like it but for the most part I keep my phone stock because it just already does all I care for. I know I'd be just as happy with an S3 or One X. So yea, that totally depends on you.
With that said, check out this youtube video, shows the Nexus vs the Evo 4G LTE. A completely unfair competition based on hardware but I was very surprised to see how good the Nexus with Jellybean did vs one of the top phones out there now.

I would rather wait a few months and get the next nexus.. the ui is very fast on jellybean, but demanding games usually won't run very well.. the graphics chip is quite old.

I love my GNex and I would not trade it for anything that is available now, including SGS3. But if I were you, I would wait for the next generation which is only a few months away. If a gadget will be updated within 6 months, you are usually better off waiting for the new version.
You won't find a better phone for $350. Not now, and not for quite some time. So yes.

My wife got her first smartphone about 8 months ago. got the samsung stratosphere. had it for about 2 months until I got the samsung galaxy S3 at which point she wanted my rooted thunderbolt. The thunderbolt has gotten very laggy no matter which Rom I throw on there. CleanRom worked well for about a week and then it started its usual lack of performance. When I first got it, it was snappy, quick and smooth. Now it just isn't and i dont know why since I'm doing a clean factory wipe with CWM. She is getting tired of me tinkering around with it trying to get it to perform well. Wants a new phone and is thinking the incredible 4g, razr M or the samsung galaxy nexus.
wanted to see what people thought, who have the galaxy nexus. Would you recommend it again or would you rather go with a newer phone like the Dinc 4g or razr m?
No regrets here. You can never go wrong with Pure Google, and with third-party ROMs you always have the latest Android version before, well especially before the Dinc 4G or RAZR M.
I wouldn't say there's much difference between 5MP and 8MP, and the only reason I'd go for either of the other two phones is for SD storage, which even now I'm losing interest in, but it's nice to have that stuff somewhere separate from the phone.
Plus, I am pretty sure the GalNex is the cheapest, on or off contract..
As far as famous issues go, no inductive charging (come on even the Thunderbolt had that), Micro USB port tends to fail, but that's kind of an all-phone sort of thing IMO, and of course AMOLED screen burn-in. All are nominal issues considering they happen typically after at least a year of use.

I had the g2 then the g2x and now the gnex. I personally think this is still one of the best phone around, hands down. Direct Google updates, unlocked (can use any gsm carrier prepaid or postpaid), great screen and decent pics. The developer support will be continuous until the hardware can no longer support the os. Money wise, its the cheapest high end smart phone you can get, period (and I don't think this phone is "cheap", its hardware is great and handles everything I throw at it).

I noticed your on Verizon, slow updates through Verizon, but the development community will provide those... Plus you can get a 32gb as compared to the gsm 16gb.

For something that "just works" with minimal effort the iDerp is the way to go.
Android can be laggy when "external" SD Card memory size is full, e.g. if 16GB SD Card have only 1GB free memory. makes Android slower..
by doing full Wipe, data factory reset then it should be much faster..
Galaxy Nexus's battery life is not so good so it's better to use older Android phone if wants phone with good battery life...
I'll put it like this. i have had several phones of all brands and companies i just had the nexus 4 sold it. i have the s3.it sits on my desk. The note 2 is hooked to a TV in the guest room for streaming. all the phones I have and have i come back to the nexus. i chose to make it my main driver. i don't even swap sims anymore. Galaxy nexus just works. and we have great devs that make things work even better. and help out. do that on a iPhone. also as
Sd storage is a thing of the past. cloud storage is here.. and it's fast. Anyway nexus gsm with a year straight talk plan works fine for me.. well great actually.. even with Verizon i wouldn't get any other phone. especially since i seen in my area Verizon offering then free or 50 bucks on contract.. roll with it.

The op asked, i gave my answer. Ya give her an iphone and then nobody here will be tempted to screw with it and mess it up. All her friends will say "Oh it's an iphone, how nice!". Otherwise let her shop for an android phone and pick out what she wants, all the top phones are pretty solid. Obviously the s3 is the hot phone now, but for some it's a little large.
She has the Thunderbolt? Good god, man. You're just asking for all kinds of trouble there. You don't give a woman a Thunderbolt. Even men can't stand that phone.
For a woman, you need a trouble-free phone like the:
-Galaxy S3
-Galaxy Note 2 (women actually like it a lot and have more reason to use it because they carry a purse or bag)
-iPhone 5
-Nokia Lumia 920
Seriously. These are the only phones women actually enjoy using. The Nexus is great but its more for geeks than ladies.
Get her a white Gnex, turn it into a takju with a clean flash of the 4.2.1 factory image and you're good to go. Hassle free stock software from then on...

She's going to complain about the battery life. He should NOT get the Nexus for a woman. I'm being serious here. The other phones I suggested are much better for a woman. You guys keep assuming that women will like what you like. They don't. They're very different. You don't give a woman a phone with any big flaws, and the big flaw with the Galaxy Nexus is battery life.
I say get her the Galaxy Note2 my wife saw it the other day and was like damn I should've waited and got that instead of the iPhone(she got her iPhone a week before note 2 came out)

Yep. Women love the Galaxy Note 2 more than men do, seemingly. It's like the size of a paperback book or personal organizer that women carry around in their purse. If they can do everything on a device like that, they're happy, and the battery life on it is amazing.
Hell, I'm probably going to get the Galaxy Note 3 next year if Google screws up again and makes yet another glass-backed Nexus phone.

The other thing I needed to mention is that she does NOT want to spend much. I would love her to have the S3 like I do but she wont spend the money to get it. This is why she was looking into the incredible 4g or moto razr m. both are $49 currently.
If money eliminates the note2, go with the nexus. I got it cheap and got the Samsung extended battery. I have no problem getting almost a full day with moderate usage. If I am at work, it goes in airplane mode between breaks. After work I still have almost a full charge. And the phone charges FAST! I have no complaints. With 2 GS2's and a GS3 in the family, my gnex still has the best performance and least issues of all.

On the subject of battery life I'm going to add that my stock battery gsm gnex gets better battery life than any android phone I've previously owned or handled.
But based on the reports of battery life with lte I would possibly agree with cadude the Verizon nexus might not be the best choice. I don't know though, maybe it's no different than any other lte equipped phone. I've always used gsm.

I bought GNex for my girlfriend and she loves it. Stock Android is rock stable and super fast. She won't change it for any other phone. Until I get her Nexus 4, maybe?
If you hated the battery life on the Bolt you will hate the VZW Galaxy Nexus more. I went from one to the other last year and u was surprised, I though the bolt had the worst battery of them all.
Otherwise here's my .02 -
If you want to extend/new contract - you cannot go wrong with an S3. Great battery life, expandable memory and Touchwiz 's no tinkering to get great features aspect are great selling points to people who don't want to tinker with the phone.. My wife is a perfect example Lol. Not to mention the camera is 2nd to none on android devices now.
If you don't want a contract I would get a used VZW Nexus. Deal with the battery for a great price.
If your wife wants a smaller device - get the RAZR M. Its quite an amazing little device. All the power/specs of the S3 in a handy little package. I've heard it has great battery too

Ok so you're on Verizon. Trust me, a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon is TERRIBLE. You simply do NOT want that phone. She will definitely complain about the battery because the LTE drains even more on a Verizon Gnex than a GSM Gnex.
Good news for you though! You can upgrade on your Verizon account with Amazon Wireless, and they'll give you another Samsung Galaxy S3 for $99.99 which isn't much more than 50 bucks and the same price as the Verizon Gnex from the Verizon store.

I can find plenty for cheap. I've been deployed and have a 4s and 4g came to our area so just curious if the nexus still stacks up good to new phones?
Also I should mention I had a galaxy nexus before the 4s so I know what it's capable of.

Yes, and if you can get it around 250 dollars, it will be a steal. It will last you at least 2 more major android releases and still be generations ahead of the apple phones.

I got mine off of ebay in November after having an iPhone for 2 years. I was worried at first because I was stuck on 4.1.1 (I have the verizon version), which ran very smooth, but i bought a nexus to get the latest updates. After rooting and upgrading to MMuzzy ROM with Tiny kernal, I have yet to see a smoother phone. I was really only going to use this phone for about 6 months before I upgraded to something else, but I decided that this phone is more then enough for me. I love the stock android and the power is enough.
The only thing I hate is how bad the battery life is though.
I've found quite a few used for under 250$ lol one in excellent condition for 75$. Before I deployed my area didn't have 4g but now it does I'm not due for a upgrade till later this year so figured I go back to the nexus and get 4g for cheap. Battery life doesn't concern me just bring a charger every where I go.

Although it might not be the best comparison, I messed with all the hottest brand new phones at Verizon a few months ago and they are no where near as smooth as my galaxy nexus. The reason it might not be fair is I've been running roms and kernels since I got it. Stock for stock... I dunno. I wasn't all that impressed with the gs3, least not like I thought I would.
Well I'm asking because it was a year ago that I had the phone and wanted to know how it stacked up against the newer phones. I'm not currently in the states so figure it was a question worth asking until I got back.

Camera sucks.
and so on..
We all know it is pure Android. But S3 is a way better. At least the hardware.

I will say its a pretty solid phone even in 2013, it might start to feel a bit dated by Q3 but as of right now I think its fine. I bought 2 GNex for my mom and sister during Christmas. Sadly over paid for one @ $200 and the screen had scratches on it (night deal didn't see the scratches). The second one I bought was much cheaper @ $170 and came with a case and dock with an extra battery, but badly damaged housing. Only reason i bought that one was because the screen was perfect and replaced the housing for $15 bucks. Still cheaper then the first one I bought and now looks mint.
Dad got the hTC One S and although I love the build and design of the phone and the hardware is better. I still think i may trade that for a GNex or at least put CM/AOKP on it, coz hTC won't support it past 4.2 if it even gets 4.2 and as it currently stands its much slower then the GNex thanks to bloated Sense.
For my family members they use it as a phone more then anything else and maybe some browsing so I think it will last them another 3 years or so. Don't think Google will support it past Android 5 though.
These were major upgrades for them, coming from 1GHz, 512MB RAM and ****ty camera. The camera not the best but decent so can't really complain.
PS I love the AOSP look which is why i run AOKP on my S3 but Sense over touchwiz and hTC build quality over Samsung any day. hTC just gets cheap on the hardware mainly camera/screen and RAM.
Gnex is a good option because it will always have the latest updates and more roms than other phones but if you don't have a tight budget then go for htc one x+ or note 2 (if you don't mind the size), Nexus 4 would be a good choice but it's rare. I would not recommend s3 as s4 is going to come out soon or you can get an s3 after the launch of s4 as it'll be much cheaper by then.
I have an opportunity to get a 16GB Galaxy Nexus BNIB (brand new in box), literally never opened or used, for what I consider to be a really good price at this point given the age of the device. I know that as of a few days ago Google posted the 4.3 factory Android image for the Galaxy Nexus and I've been reading up on how it seems to have breathed new life into the previous flagship device for the Nexus smartphone series.
Now, with yesterday's price drop on the Nexus 4 I have to say I'm on the fence as of this moment. I'm not absolutely sure which one to get given I know the Nexus 4 will be $250 (plus tax/shipping, so about $283 and change according to Google Play), and I can get the Galaxy Nexus for $150 - no it's not some online deal, no it's not on eBay, no I can't point you to where they're that cheap, it's literally a one-time thing from a friend that worked for Google last summer and was given the GN and he never even bothered to open it (he's an iPhone person).
I guess I should say that I'm fully aware of the community of support for the Galaxy Nexus, it's huge and it continues to grow even in spite of the age of the device. It's probably only bested these days by the still awesome community of support for the HTC HD2, probably my fave device ever but that one has long since gone off my radar.
So to make a long blah blah blah help me make a decision post short, here's the real question:
If you had the chance to get a Nexus 4 16GB for $250-ish, today, or a Galaxy Nexus 16GB for $150, today, brand new never opened never touched used etc, which would you choose, and if you can say why then say why.
I'm honestly leaning towards the Galaxy Nexus for several reasons:
- I like the build better and the curved aspect of the shape/display
- I'm not a big fan of the backside glass on the Nexus 4 even in spite of it being Gorilla Glass
- the Galaxy Nexus obviously has pretty much the same or similar features as the Nexus 4 overall (meaning from a functionality standpoint)
- the Super AMOLED display (which with this one I'm considering being brand spankin' new means it doesn't have any burn-in whatsoever which does happen with AMOLED displays; I had a Galaxy S Captivate that after 1.5 years finally started showing the burn-in consistently)
- the removable battery which is probably the biggest most amazing plus of all for the Galaxy Nexus
- the pogo dock (using the contacts on the side) for the Galaxy Nexus (I know it's just for audio and charging but even so it saves wear and tear on the microUSB port (yes I'm aware it's insanely expensive but whatever)
and some other reasons as well but that covers it. So, is the Nexus 4 with a slightly increased resolution (1280x768 vs the GN at 1280x720), the quad core CPU (which isn't a big selling point to me, really), and whatever else it features that much of a better buy over the Galaxy Nexus I'm considering?
One thing that worried me about getting a Galaxy Nexus at this point would have been the age, and the wear on the internal Flash-RAM since it doesn't support a microSD card. I know that with Android 4.3 now available and TRIM finally in action, that's part of why some people are saying their Galaxy Nexus devices are "like new again" because TRIM is cleaning things up - with this brand new never used Galaxy Nexus I could buy, it would be even better and last longer because again a) it's never been used and b) I'd put 4.3 on it within an hour of opening the box, so that's a win-win if I've ever had one.
Anyway, I am seriously curious what other people might thing, so instead of asking this in the Nexus 4 forum where people would probably just flat out call me insane to want a Galaxy Nexus over that device, I figured I'd propose the question here where the Galaxy Nexus community lives.
What say you... the Galaxy Nexus brand new for $150 or the Nexus 4 for $250-ish. I really can't commit to either at this moment so I'm still on the fence.
Regarding 4G:
The 4G aspect potential for the Nexus 4 which I know can be put to use (I use the T-Mobile $30/month plan and I'm in Las Vegas where T-Mobile has outstanding coverage now) is not a consideration as I don't care about 4G at all, period, to any degree whatsoever. Obviously the Galaxy Nexus can't support that at all, but it is HSPA+ capable and again, T-Mobile here in Las Vegas has outstanding coverage so in that respect, from the actual provider perspective, the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 are the same for my intents and purposes.
The potential 4G capability of the Nexus 4 is therefore irrelevant and not a "buying point" for me at all. Just wanted to make that aspect clear in my considerations.

Nexus 4. I love my Gnex but for the price it will last you much longer. The Gnex although going strong is starting to show its age. And with the N4 soooo cheap I'd say go for it.
if you're getting a new phone, get the nexus 4. the extra $100 is worth it.

Ubuntu Touch development uses the Galaxy Nexus pretty much as the reference device in terms of smartphones, and I would love to be able to do some work with that too, so that's another plus towards the GN.

Still, you should go for the N4. Even if the Gnex is going strong now it is not going to last forever. It's slow dual core (compared to the new CPUs), slow GPU and 1 gb of ram are already showing their age. Combine that with the already leaving devs and google's now-crap-support and you should have enough reasons to buy an N4.
PS: I love my gnex but if I had the option to buy an N4 or even the N5, which is coming soon, I'd go for the new one
I'm still sad that I got the GNex last August when the N4 was right around the corner for the same price. It has me salivating for an N5 in a couple months!
I recently was in the same situation but was looking at a used Nexus 4 at the time and went with the Galaxy.
What should you do? Well, I think its more of what do you want to do with your phone.
I don't play games that are very demanding on a phone (if any), I mostly use it to browse sites / message when I'm away from a PC.
So for what I need the GNex does it fine.
If you want more power, well this price drop should effect the value of other second hand phones and you could get something better then the N4. (or a cheaper the new N4)
I've still not found a way to keep enough available memory so that my services don't eventually go into restarting loops, necessitating a reboot. My wife just got a GS4 with 2GB of ram (same amount as the N4), and it's much nicer. Haven't seen it pause for 5 seconds to reload the home screen widgets and icons when exiting the browser, that's for sure.
I think everyone with gnex should w8 until nexus 5 come out.
N4 isnt the Upgrade we're all looking for. Performance on gnex is still decent, sure getting aged a bit but still enough to handle everything for our daily needs.
I agree with the memory point, 1 gig isn't enough anymore these days. You simply getting redraws all the time using facebook or chrome.
For me it's gnex, lg can't make quality phones. Besides, the nexus 4 doesn't have lte either, so it doesn't worth "upgrading". But if buying a new phone, I think nexus 4 is better since price wise they are same, why not the newer one.
If you can wait till Nexus 5 but Nexus 4 is much smoother in every aspect. Yes 4.3 made my GN smoother but it even boosted Nexus 4 performance as well.

Nexus 4 has the better GPU. So I'd choose that.
Get the N4, future proof with 1.8GB of RAM. The 700 on GN is getting cramped. That's the only reason I sold mine last week for surprisingly good 200€ (was without any sings of usage though) and ordered a 250€ 16GB N4 on Play Store via German VPN, so with shipping and all that it'll be 265€ (ordered 2, we're splitting costs).
So you'll be off basically even cheaper. If you worry about the glass back, get a dBrand back sticker, looks great and protects the device.
If the Nexus 4 is still available by the end of the year, i'll get that one (Google recently chopped off 100 Euros off of the price of the N4).
I love my GNex and will most likely not sell it because it has been a very solid performer that still gets the job done.
I don't care all that much for gaming and the like, but the increase in raw processing-power and the amount fo RAM are what does it for me.
Of course, the user-replaceable battery on the GNex is a big plus, but the problem is, that in the future we are going to have to live with built-in batteries (I don't like it either, but that's the way things are looking at the moment).
Strongly considering selling my 2012 nexus 7 and then paying cash for the rest to get the 8gb nexus 4. Its such a good deal at $199.

Had never seen or heard of those, but that yellow one is awesome (big fan of yellow and black schemes here), thanks for the info.
I'm still on the fence, remarkably, but I think I'm leaning more towards the Nexus 4 at the moment since I do want to participate in that Ubuntu Touch testing and development. The increased horsepower of the Nexus 4 (quad core, 2GB of RAM, etc) just make it the better device even in spite of me ending up paying almost twice as much (since the GN for me would be $150 brand new as noted). And according to that spreadsheet they use for tracking progress, it's the only device that currently is fully functional as far as the aspects they've worked on (Bluetooth doesn't work on anything of course, and some other hardware like the gyroscope, etc hasn't even started development yet).

Nexus 4 no doubt.It has better battery..more rams mean more speed , not to mention the better gpu.And with google chopped off 100 bucks of its price itll be a good deal for you mate.

I would replace my GNex for Nexus 4 if I no need to add something else. I know it's impossible.
However, GNex is really an amazing device. Gonna use it for another year and I'll see what's next.

As my good old gnex yesterday, got a big fall, it felt down from 2nd floor outside the window, and on the asphalt.
I need a new phone as fast as possible.
I know that the N5 is around the corner, but i can`t wait. I need phone for work.

Looked at Htc One, but i need a little bit bigger screen than 4,7inch.

I would order a cheap phone to get you by, then order the N5 when it comes out.
Personally I can recommend SGS4 as an upgrade for the Galaxy Nexus. I just recently switched from GNex as my main phone to SGS4. Performance even on stock is so sweet compared to the aging Nexus (running latest stable Slim Bean). I think, i`ll go for it. i`ve newer tried touchwiz, ;D
And, i hope, that the performance improvement will be noticable.

I know that the N5 is around the corner, but i don`t care. And in my country it will be maybe only next year. As the N4 showed in stores only in may.
I would probably go for note3 only if i could afford it. I herd good things about battery life on note 2 so i assumed note3s would be par with note2.
another consideration would be s4 (only cuz my friend have 1 and its blazing fast outta box) or G2 ( i herd good things about this 1)
since we all come from nexus, if you don't miss dev supports, i know what we miss- battery life, so i would go for note3, g2 or s4 if NOT going for
nexus 5
Get a barebones phone for now and grab an N5 when it's out, that's goin to be in a few days and you will have one of the beastly device !

Anyways, i`m going to buy a new phone on contract, not in direct way. And as i said for the nexus, it will only be available on contract here in my country, maybe next year .
Or maybe go for Htc One?

The biggest thing now is to choose from N4 and S4.
N4 has great developement support, but the S4 has great specs and 5inch 1080p display.

I should go with the nexus 4 and then buy a nexus 5 when it's cheap or wait for the nexus 6
The G2 is a bigger version of the N5.
It has a bigger screen, better camera, bigger battery, etc.
I'd love a G2, except I can't bring myself buying an LG phone after the G2x I had.
I'm really torn between the G2 and the Note3 or S4.
The G2 is the best phone out there ATM with S800 processor, 1080P screen, 2 or 3gb of Ram, 16mp camera with hardware anti-stabilizing. They have some really slick looking stock cases. The back buttons are kind of weird until you think about using it with a flap case, no longer do you have to search the side of the phone for the buttons. Being on the back would make it sweet for controlling volume when listening to speaker calls or pandora.
It is also getting released on all major carriers in the US and worldwide, all with the same specs. So I suspect that development will be pretty good on it. especially that the N5 will be it's little brother, roms should be able to be ported relatively easily.
The Verizon version also has Qi Charging AND is UNLOCKED for GSM radios. So you can pop in a AT&T/Tmobile/StraightTalk/SimpleMobile and go.
Buy the GS4 and call it a day. Especially if you have the money and can't wait. Otherwise, get a used Nexus 4 or some other phone and hold out.
