thanks fr reply. but i didnt get you how to make it work?

The note 2 and the s3 have different hml adapters. You will also need a converter.
On the monoprice link you posted, youll notice ab asterisk next to the s3. Same applies to the note 2.

I just got a Samsung HDTV Adapter Tip (5 to 11 Pin) Model EPL-FU10BEBSTD, which has micro-USB female to male; it enabled my TMobile "HDMI connection kit" that had worked with Galaxy S2 Hercules to work now with my Galaxy Note II. The connection kit was expensive, but has a 10' cable from the MHL adapter body to the male micro-usb plug, as well as a 5' cable to the TV HDMI, and a wall charger to power the adapter body. So the arrangement is quite flexible once installed.

I was hoping someone could help me with this problem also. I have a hdmi capable monitor that I would like to hook my note2 up to but for whatever reason the monitor will not detect the signal. i have tried rebooting and connecting it various ways but no dice.
the only thing i can think of is that its the rom im using which is myrom's latest version

Do you have 5pin or 11pin mhl cable? Note2 requires 11pin one.

I was told you need an S3 cable. Here's the one I use.

Yea you guys are right you need 11 pin for the note 2. the sgs2 used 5 pin so if you have one for your older phone you need a new one or I think they make a converter too. I would suggest getting right from samsung. it may cost more but you get what you pay for usually and samsung makes the best stuff when it comes to that. Also another thing to consider while you are on samsungs website they have a multimedia dock that is on backorder right now but for a 100 dollars it turns your note2 into a pc basically. It has 3 full size usb ports so you can hook up a mouse keyboard and external hard drive and it has the hdmi port and an auido port so you can hook it up to a hdmi tv/ monitor and multimedia speaker system. I was going to get a new computer but I found this thing. So basically I can have an android desktop. It dont get better than that. Now wit dropbox and mobile odin and this exynos exploit we really dont need to hook up to a pc to root so there is no real reason for it. Just something to think about.

This is really helpful. My question is will this charge your phone while you are connected to the tv? Also, I see some of the description on ebay says it might not work if you are rooted.

I am rooted; The MHL/HDMI system works well, if that is your concern. The charger that I use for the MHL adapter is much lower amperage than the one that came with the Galaxy Note 2, so I would guess that charging might be slow if you are watching a movie that way, or maybe not even keep up, but I don't have the patience to do the test (or watch movies that way).

Hmmmm!!!!
I just got the Samsung dock and can't connect with HDMI on rooted stock.
The phone detects the dock and charges up, but no signal to the screen. Also tried hooking it up with the TV and projector using two different custom rom and separate HDMI cables and no dice.
Guess the dock is defective.

Getting MHL/HDMI video out to work

I have both a genuine Samsung MHL adapter and the S2 mhl adapter with the 5pin to 11pin converter and I've seen both of these work on other phones.
However, I can't get my video out working on my S3. Both of them connect and bring up active charge and indicate onscreen that "HDMI cable connected". So I know the adapter and cable is being detected but no signal on HDTV. The HDMI cable is good as is TV and monitor I tested on and of course proper input is selected.
Now as far as I remember as soon as it is plugged in the video should automatically show up on HDTV screen...correct? No TV out setting has to be turned on as in past Galaxy correct?
Fyi..I have multiple S3's but currently only have one on hand...its a 747m with KyanROM on it... so not stock..it is rooted and has KT747 9-18 kernel as well.
I have a feeling its the rom(and I could easily test this if I had other phones but don't for a while).
So if both MHL adapters are confirmed working and both the HDMI cable and TV are working AND even the phone states that HDMI cable connected, then what is the issue with no video display?

Do you have the power plugged in? That is, a AC/DC charger to micro-USB cable plugged in to the micro-USB port on the adapter.
Should work automatically
I just received the Min-Suit 11-pin adapter sold on Amazon. Mine switches on automatically as soon as I plug in the adapter. Of course, to make it work, you should first plug a charging cable into the USB micro port on the adapter and you should connect an HDMI cable to the tv. Also, make sure you're selected the correct HDMI input on the tv. If you do all of that, the picture and sound should start up as soon as you plug in the cable.
Unless it was a mistake, your OP says you have s2 adapter. From my understanding, the pins are different on the s3 and will not work with the older adapters.
If you read closer Woody you will see that he says that he uses an old MHL adapter, WITH the 5 to 11 pin adapter
That should work. But I think your ROM is the guilty one...

Dont give up yet, I thought I had the same problem, but my ballistic case was preventing the MHL adapter from going all the way in. I took the phone out of the case and the adapter clicked in. Worked great on the TV, but best of all, worked in the truck via a down converter. Had to play with it to get in deep enough (kind of phone foreplay i guess:laugh to work, but it does.

[Q] Note II MHL > HDMI issues

Hi all.
I've searched for similar questions and can't find anything that gives me an answer... so here goes.
Model number: GT-N7100 (Samsung Galaxy Note 2)
Android version: 4.1.1
Modifications: None.
Problem:
- Connect MHL cable to phone.
- Connect power
- Connect HDMI to tv & MHL
- Phone pops up a message on screen advising that HDMI connection has been made.
- No output from phone to tv.
I tried originally with the wrong MHL cable designed for a Galaxy S2 (established this thanks to a post I found on here, thanks). Then replaced with one designed for the S3 which should (according to what i read) also work with the Note2.
Am I missing something here?
The cable used was from Amazon and is not a samsung original part. But before spending more money to get the samsung part i want to be sure i exhausted all options with the cheaper alternative.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

my theory is it has something to do with all share cast
I bought a 'generic' adapter at first, did not work. Ended up going with the Samsung adapter...worked fine...
make sure yr MHL cable/adaptor is compatible for note2/s3, they use different pins with older model
Hi all.
Thanks for the replies. [will do the whole thanks button thing in a minute].
I threw the adapter in a drawer for the weekend and pulled it back out this morning to have another crack at it.
Its the cheap n nasty adapter that is at fault. I shoved the connector into the bottom of the phone really hard this time, and instead of black, the tv screen went green. All green. A bit of jiggling later and i had phone output on the tv, but its a very sketchy connection and a slight knock loses the connection, even though the phone still thinks the cable is connected still.
Only problem then is that there is no audio coming through the tv. All phone settings suggest there should be.
So i went upstairs to try on another tv, and it works perfectly with video and audio (once the cable is rammed home good and hard).
Problem solved. For now, it will do. But I will at some point be investing in the genuine samsung part that should do the job properly. And a new TV for the living room ~ current one is old and was a budget model at the time, so you can imagine how bad it is by todays standards.
Hi, can you help to check if the camera apps work when you use mhl ?
Im using the sprint gn2 do I go with the same step when connecting mhl adapter? Before you connect to television is the phone suppose to be charging? I think I have to buy the right one .I bought mine amazon from china and still have not hooked it up to my tv yet. Can there be a problem with phone? Its new never dropped

i just got my samsung MHL adapter which is for the S3 but supposedly should work with note 2 also.
when i connect the hdmi cable and the power cable and then connect it to my phone i see a popup "hdmi cable cvonnected"
however,
my monitor (Dell 2408WFP) just goes into sleep mode.
i also tried another monitor.. same thing.
i'm on android revolution with perseus kernel... which is just a modded stockrom.
i have not made a samsung account so i don't have any of the samung specific apps activated... could this be the problem?
do you need to have that sharecast or whatever to be activated first in order to get the TV out functionality?
I bought Samsung MHL adapter last month for HTC One X and it works fine even without connect the phone to charging.
I just tried that to my new Note 2 and it doesn't work at all.. already try to charge the phone still not showing anything not even a notification saying my note2 connected to the hdmi...

Having the exact same issje with the original s3 adapter. It worked fine 2 days ago and then one day from another it magically stopped working on my note 2. Still works with other devices..
ok.. i decided to actually create a samsung account and installing the all-share cast app hoping this would finally make the mhl work..
but alas..
same thing..
i connect power, mhl en and hdmi cable.... set monitor to look for hdmi signal...
phone then gives me the 'hdmi adapter connected' message and then the monitor goes into energy saving mode...
i guess my adapter is faulty.... it is supposedly a genuine brand new samsung adapter but i got it from ebay hongkong or china or whatever... so... well... you know..
i think i will order the wireless all-share hub in stead...
Are you rooted? I've read that hml doesn't work if you are.
Edit: I should have read the rest of the thread. Looks like you solved the problem.

well yeah... if getting a wireless allshare cast hub instead for 80 bucks is a solution.. then yes.. i guess it's solved..
by the way,
yes.. i have root.. where did you read that a rooted phone prevents the MHL adapter from properly working?
do you have a link or something?
in that case i could still try to persuade the Android Revolution HD Rom developer to look into the issue...

Try it using the 5V - 2A charger, i have read, somewhere i forgot, that 2A is a must for being able to use MHL.
I can't say if it is true or not, i'm atill waiting all stuff be delivered (All-share cast hub, MHL adapter, Smart Dock, etc).
Good luck

For me the MHL cable worked well with easy disconnections (any minimal movement). But I used it with the bloutooh mouse and so I didn't feel so much the issue.
Now the note 2 doesn't reveal the cable. I plug it in and nothing happens.
I don't remember if I changed ROM before the issue but it's sure I always had a custom ROM.
Can be a ROM problem?
I will try the MHL cable with my father's s3 and let you know if is a cable issue.
EDIT:
SORRY GUYS, IS A CAVE PROBLEM. ITS DEAD
I have rooted my device also. Come to think of it, this might just be the issue. Rooted with exynosabuse gonna try to unroot and see if it works. Still want it to work with root though because i use the sixaxis to play games..
Once u unrrot your note 2 did it work with the mhl cable

You do not need root. All you need is the correct mhl adapter for the note 2 and make sure it's connected with the power adapter and it will work instantly. It's actually pretty cool.

you may need to get a 5pin to 11pin adapter. The GN2 has a 11pin port. And most HML adapters use 5pin ports.
No root required.

Monoprice HML stuff
And from what I've seen others post and seen on other sites, you'll going to spend in the $10 to $20US range for the equipment.
On a side note, I like that new cable monoprice has with both the mircoUSB and regular so you can plug into the phone and charger. That may actually not eat up juice or much of it In my setup, I run into the battery drain when doing WiFi tether and HML at the same time.
The video is something I did to show HML working and what not. I'm using the USB cable and charge that came with the phone. It's plugged into the monoprice HML adapter. The white thing adapter that is plugged into GN2 and HML adapter is plugged into is a 11pin to 5pin adapter.

would any of these adapters work? and i also just need the usb charging cable and an hdmi to hdmi cable right?
yes, they should work. Doesn't look like you need an 11pin adapter either.
Yes you will need a USB cable, USB charger and HDMI cable. You can just use the USB cable and charger that came with your phone. Just an FYI, the HML adapter will take some power to run, so your phone will charge while using, but not as quickly. Also, if you're doing power consuming things all at one on the phone, it's possible the phone will drain, just slower, like I have with I did that while running WiFi Tether.
I tried several "standard" MHL adapters, and the only one I could get to work was the Samsung OEM adapter. Can't speak for anyone else, but that adapter + standard HDMI cable works great.
You'll find it by searching for 'B00AG33VHU' on Amazon. (sorry, I can't post links yet)

Samsung mini usb to HDMI adaptor requiring power source

I recently bought a mini usb to HDMI adaptor (model number ET-H10FAU) from eBay and it seems to only work on my note 10.1 2014 edition when I'm using a power source (A mini usb cable to a plugged in ac adaptor.) Is this normal or is there something wrong with the adaptor? I was hoping that I could use the adaptor without such a power source.

I have ordered a 5 pin to 11 pin converter so i can use the MHL adpter I have with the new Note 10.1. I have used this MHL adapter with several phones and all required the power to be plugged it for it to work. The best way around this is with a Miracast receiver to mirror the device wirelessly. I bought the Rocketfish one from Best Buy a couple of months ago when it was on sale for $29.99.

According to Rocketfish's website, and the documentation about the device (It's on the link below) you don't need an external power source since the tablet connects to the device by way of a wireless connection. It does say that the device requires an HDTV with a USB port though, something my old cruddy HDTV I still have in my bedroom does not have (I would be using this device mostly upstairs.). Nevertheless I confirmed that if your tv doesn't have a USB port then you can use an AC adaptor to power the device. This Rocketfish device seems to be perfect. Having to use all these cables to connect my tablet to a tv is a real pain...

The Monoprice MHL adapter I have will not work on any device without external power hooked up to it. If you are using screen mirroring/ miracast for wireless display then you do not need power hooked up. The Rocketfish MiraCast receiver I have does require USB power while plugged into a TV's HDMI slot to function. Most TV's have a usb port for attaching a thumb drive or doing firmware updates and this will power the receiver. Hope this helps.

You can use a usb wall adapter for the usb power. Mine came with the small device, a short HDMI ext. cable, and the microusb power cable in the box. I have used several devices with the Miracast receiver. Be aware that most devices will require you to press the WPS button on the receiver the first time you connect it. I have used a Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013), Nvidia Shield, and a HTC Droid DNA with it and all work well. The Shield only required me to use the PIN number shown on the TV screen to connect, all the others required me to press the WPS button on the receiver to connect the first time. After connecting the first time all you have to go into settings on the android device to connect. You can move the receiver to a different TV and still reconnect without pressing the WPS button again. The only time you should have to repair the device is if you factory reset or install a different rom on the android device. Sorry for the long response just trying to give as much information as I know to help with your decision.

Not sure if you were asking about the Rocketfish one specifically...
I bought the OEM MHL 2.0 adapter on Amazon and can confirm that you can indeed connect to HDMI without any power source.

I don't need the power cord plugged in on mine but I do need the 5 to 11 pin adapter in the micro usb port of the tablet to get it connected to my tv.
does any one know if this will work?

It should people have said the Note II compatible MHL adapters will work.
I bought one off of ebay
I bought the one below from ebay from seller nj-store and I can connect it with and without the power cord; However, it will it disconnect it by itself every 5-10 minutes regardless of whether or not it has the power connected. Has anyone tried the original Samsung MHL 2.0? If so does it require the power and also does it charge the Note while the power is connected? Cause the one I bought off of ebay does not charge the Note when the power is connected. I seen some original Samsung MHL 2.0 connectors on amazon like for $16.99 but most people think they received the MHL 1.0 because it requires power. Thanks.

Not sure if you were asking about the Rocketfish one specifically...
I bought the OEM MHL 2.0 adapter on Amazon and can confirm that you can indeed connect to HDMI without any power source.

I have the original Samsung MHL 2.0. I bought it on Amazon *from* Amazon. I paid more for it, but I wanted to ensure I was getting the genuine product... I've read a few reviews where people were getting the 1.0 (or worse yet, fakes) when buying from 3rd party sellers.
It does not require power to connect my Note II phone or Note 10.1 2014 tablet to a monitor or TV. When I do connect power, it charges both devices.
Thank for letting me know. Do you happen to have the link to the Amazon one? All I find is third parties and fulfilled by amazon. Thanks.
I just went to my Amazon account and clicked on my orders to get you a direct link... Amazon must now be out of stock on them. All I see are 3rd party vendors at the moment.

Can you post the model number of your adapter. I have gotten one suppose to be original and the model number is ET H10FAUWEGWW per the box, but the adapter itself does not have a model number but just a serial number and it says it is made in Korea. It does have this number on it KFC RE SEC ET H10FAUWE which I don't know what it is. The reason for my question is that it works well but it does not charge my note when my power adapter is attached to it. Thanks.

I'm traveling on business at the moment, so I don't have the box on me to confirm. However, I do know that the model number is ET-H10FAUWESTA - not the one you listed. I *can* confirm again that it does charge my devices as I'm currently using them in my hotel room.

Thanks for the reply. I will return the item and wait for Samsung or an authorize retailer to carry them. I have had too much bad luck buying from 3rd parties.

Just wanted to make sure about this adapter being able to charge the Note 2014 edition. I tried it on a galaxy S3 and S4 and it charge both but not the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. It must need more power I guess cause I was using the Note 2014 edition original charger. Have you tried on the note 2014 edition?

HDMI/MHL Video Output

A new monitor of mine came with a cable. One side fits an HDMI port and the other side fits my phone's microUSB/MHL port. The cable says "MHL" on it. Therefore, I thought it would allow me to output video from my phone to a monitor/TV, but it doesn't work. When I plug in both ends, my phone's red light comes on like it's charging and there is no signal received by the monitor.
Are there settings I need to change on my phone? Is this apparent MHL to HDMI cable not what I understand it to be? Thanks for any answers.

What's the model of your phone?
If you really wanna output video from your phone to a monitor/TV, you can order a MHL to HDMI adapter from Samung online store or ebay/amazon.

My phone is an SGH-T999 (T-Mobile Galaxy S3). I'm sure I could get the official adapter from Samsung, but I'm wondering why the one I have does not work since it appears to be MHL to HDMI. Do I need to check the number of pins? How? Are there any special settings I have to make on the phone or should it just plug and play?

You could look for a 5 pin to 11 pin hdmi adapter for the s3 (around 2$), this could make it work fine

When i connect my MHL to HDMI adaptor, my first step is changing the TV signal mode to HDMI signal Mode before i plug it to HDMI port, please give it a try. I don't think it just plug and play if you turn on your TV as normal for watching TV play. Your have to change the mode first.
