The size of this device - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Are you guys comfortable with it? I keep seeing posts not only in this forum of it cramping peoples hands etc etc.....
I'm not finding it that hard to hold, one handed operation can be challenging once in a while especially when reaching for that top left portion of the screen but no biggy.
How many people are finding it uncomfortable to hold this device. I'd also like to suggest..

lol.

It took me a couple days to get use to.
The right case makes a big difference on how it feels in hand.
I wont be going back to smaller size device that's f,sure.

To hold it in one hand, I support it with my pinky from the bottom so I can reach the bottom of the phone to type. It mostly gives cramps to my hand but not a big deal. I had the same issue with my sgs2.
But 2 handed operation is excellent.
Actually I got used to this phone's size so fast that I started to feel the screen is still small. so I grabbed my sgs2 and played it a while. I felt amazed again to hold my note2

This is why I'm trying to avoid the candyshell hard cases or forget the otter box. I want something as slim as the device and still offer decent protection. I'm hoping the seidio surface does the job and hardly adds size. I ordered one last night.

Looks good, wonder if they have them at the sprint stores? I didnt even think of this I figured they'd have the sprint branding all over them.

I had to remove the slim case l bought. Otherwise, without a case, it's been totally fine.

I picked up my epic just to play with and immediately decided its to small "the epic that is" I love the feel of the note2 but I use the spen alot so onehanded is pretty much non existent for me but when I do I still feel comfortable with it and I do not have large hands lol. But like someone said use your pinky to help support it.

I love mine and really enjoy the bigger screen (coming from SGSII). I'm putting a FlyGrip on it which will make it easier for one-handed use AND it will prevent it from falling out of your hand(s). Check them out. I absolutely love my FlyGrip on my SGSII. Highly recommend it.

Yeah they stock in store.
Sprint gave up branding accsessors..heck their GN2 doesn't have any branding which is great.
Now they they need to fix CS and data speeds lol

As long as you didnt break your nails....

It took me all of a day to get used to it, and I have average-sized hands. I try to use it two-handed when I can, but with one-handed operation, it's a pretty simple task, especially with Swype.

Unique accesory for cooling down your phone or yourself

I noticed the other day when I was playing n64oid and fpse with sixaxis contoller app using MHL to HD adpater. Since the phone is charging and displaying on the tv as well as running 2 apps it gets pretty hot.
So I started looking for a portable fan that i could set behind my phone why using the kickstand on the case to blow some cool air on it. As well as keep me cool
I finally found the smallest fan ever and has really good reviews.
(click picture for where to buy)
I will update this with how it works when I get it...if it doesn't work that well then I will still use it as a portable fan.
Yes I know you can underclock but you don't want to when you are playing emulators that need lots of power!!!
Yes you can kill apps but never liked doing that....
Just thought I share in case someone had the same thought I did.
I don't think a tiny little fan could really cool down your phone too much, nor keep you cool.

Haha, people will make anything to make a buck or two. If my phone begins to get a bit toasty, I usually just take it out of the case and lay it on a cool surface for a bit. That seems to do the trick and it's free, lol.

I found a flat heatsink that could possibly be made into a back cover, but we would ideally still need some way to solidly connect it to the hot parts of the SoC. It would involve breaching the plastic "firewall" of the housing, and replacing it with a short section of copper plate (i.e. a penny). Using a little thermal compound would make it even more effective at removing heat.
Can you picture this with a cutout for the camera pod?
On the liquid cooling front, I found some USB powered water pumps and cooling block.... If your Gnex is getting this hot, you might have a problem.
Hold the phone! This is much closer to the size we need. Peltier coolers work on thermocouple effect. It might use a little power, but will actually reduce temperature on one side, by a few degrees!
You could buy a mini fridge, then drill a hole in the front for wires:silly:
You can then also have cold drinks whilst playing your n64 games

I use the above case. It does not add a whole lot to the phone as far as size or weight goes. The kick stand seems pretty sturdy as well. The rubber on the outside gives the user the ability to grip the phone without worry of having it slip through your hands. The buttons on the case protrude a bit making them easy to find by touch.
All in all a great case and it looks good with the white GS3.

The Official Samsung Mesh case is probably your best bet -- Although it doesn't have a kickstand built in, all you need is a quarter, and boom, you got yourself a 4.8 HDTV.

You can also possibly pick this phone up at AT&T as I almost did - Unfortunately, I didn't think the kickstand was very sturdy and winded up passing on it. I believe it is either $30 or $35 at the store I went too.

I used the case mate on my Epic 4G touch and it worked well BUT it is not slim, I tried the one for the S3 and it is just as fat. Obviously it depends on your opinion of what is fat or not but I felt like it was fairly bulky. I currently am thinking of getting a tcp speck case from AT&T and attaching a flygrip to it. If I do that I'll post again. Even though I have Verizon it seemed like the AT&T stores had best selection of cases around me (versus Sprint and Verizon plus a couple case stores, just fyi).

Junk, don't waste your money. I had to return 3 cases because they cracked. Read more here:

Damn, were they real though? I read somewhere that the fakes do crack like hell.
Sent from my sexy white Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile
I actually just got my candyshell a couple of days ago. I was put off by the 'cracking' from the reviewers, but I ordered it from Amazon and they have a great return policy. I also had a speck when I had the iphone 3gs and I liked it. It provided protection without being too bulky. Too bad they don't have it in white!
I was actually surprised as it was better than the iphone version - the buttons are really easy to press (on the iphone case, I always had to push down really firmly on the volume rocker and power button because the rubber didn't have as much give). So far, I like it as it also gives me something more solid to hold, I'm probably the minority but the naked phone feels so light, like I'm going to snap it in half. No complaints with cracks so far, will update if there is.

Thanks! Yeah, the cracking put me off too, but I saw reviews that said how easy the buttons were to press and its a pretty slick case so I bought one.
Yeah, actually the speck case for the galaxy s3 seems less flimsy than the iphone version. To me, anyway.
Case is junk. Super hard to get the phone out of and the cracking is real.
Get a case mate tough or a incipio sylicrilic.
I have this case. It's my everyday case right now. I've put it on and off the phone multiple times and never had any issues. If you do it as per the instructions then it comes out easy. Mine has not cracked. This is the best case I have found that is slim fitting, has a lip to keep the screen and camera lens off of tables, and covers the buttons. I would recommend it.

I remember reading somewhere on another forum that it was one specific color that was cracking and Speck stopped selling that color due to the issues. I believe the other colors were all fine with no problems. I think it was the greyish bluish one that they stopped.

Yeah, it was the Pebble / Bayou color that was having issues. I can't seem to find the thread that I read that on but if you go to the Speck website you'll see that they show 5 color options in one of the photos but you can only buy 4 of them. You can't buy the Pebble / Bayou color as I believe that was the one that had the issues.

That sucks. At least you tried to ease the fall.... I think people should practice bobbling things and trying to catch them every now and then. Maybe old or dummy phones would be good for practice.
I'm loving my TPU case though. The rubbery feel of a TPU is just so much easier to grip. Doesn't make the phone any bulkier in the pocket except it helps trap pocket lint where it meets the screen. I keep my pockets cleaner now :laugh:

Sure you 'fumbled' it...
j/k ... bittersweet i guess.
Well when my original note 2 suffered the tragic Left Corner Of Doom break it was in a leather pouch that fell off my hip and hit the asphalt just right. I think the issue with these phones are that the size of the screen makes them more fragile. Its easier to break a full pensil in half then a half pensil in half. Makes sense?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I have one of those slim cases that snaps on. I had one on my OG Evo and there was no way the phone would contact the ground during a fall. This isn't the case with the GN2 since it is so much larger the case doesn't wrap the corners as well. Right now I am ultra aware when I grab for my phone and it will be awhile before using it becomes automatic. I once dropped a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber inside my gun cabinet. It fell about 3.5 feet and it felt like an eternity since it fell straight down and I was hoping the firing pin would not strike the primer.

Do you keep a lot of loaded guns in your safe? I mean, I keep 1 loaded revolver, but I think it would be about impossible to drop it hard enough to engage the firing pin with it not cocked. My other loaded firearm is typically on my hip/bed and is cocked and locked. It isn't good on your magazine springs to keep ammunition always in them. Not to mention the safety hazard of having loaded firearms. Glad no one was hurt.

This isnt a fact, magazines today have springs that are treated to remain compressed and not suffer any reliability issues. There have even been case of original colt 1911's with original magazines and ammo still firing when the trigger was pulled.
I love guns more than phones.

+1 Same...haven't had a Oopsie yet. I dropped my S3 not once, not twice, but three times and not one scratch on it. Even after trying to save it.

I just took a look at my Evo which survived many a fall with a slim case. It seems like its softer plastic around the glass. As far as keeping loaded guns in the safe. If I didn't have 3 kids there would be loaded guns all over my house. I also keep a couple of AR15 mags ready to go just in case...
Front and center is my carry piece that fell. Extra points for the person who can tell me what make and model it is.

Small hand people

anyone own this phone that have small hands, did you regret it? does it sucks? describe.
I have the smallest hands out of anyone I've ever met in my life. Probably due to a wrist injury I had back in middle school, and how I had my fingers numbed to punching hard-objects by elementary school, my hands are just small(but strong ). I've had the Note 2 since release date until a month ago when I sold it, and it worked perfectly. The Note 3 seemed to be just the same. While the screen is bigger, the pleather-back really improves grip while holding the device. Texting on portrait mode with 2 thumbs is the absolute best thing ever. It is the perfect size. The perfect size. If I switch it to land-scape, it'll be too wide to use effectively imo. All in all, it depends on your usage style. I'm more of a 1 1/2 hand type of guy. I usually use two hands, but only because it is faster that way. Even though for September I was using a temporary 3.5 inch android replacement phone after I sold my note 2, I still used that with two hands. It was easily small enough for me to one-hand it all the way, but I usually never did. It is slower and less convenient imo. Sure for normal use, you'll be very comfortable with this phone. For moments where you absolutely only have one-hand, Samsung has included an awesome feature that pretty much allows you to gesture and shrink the screen. This works amazingly well and helps when I'm doing something with my other hand. I do warn you of one thing though. Once you go big, you'll never go back. You won't be able to live without the screen estate and the tablet-like experience you get with movies, web, and games. It doesn't help either that the screen on this most is arguably the best of any phone in history(according to Displaymate testing).
I'm a 5 foot tall girl & my hands are pretty tiny, but I can manage it. I had the Note & the Note 2 before this so maybe I'm just used to big screens but I don't have any trouble. I can't text one-handed on it, but that doesn't really bother me. Texting two-handed on this phone is absolutely GLORIOUS- accuracy is unbeatable & each thumb covers exactly half the keyboard, there's no reaching or cramping like with smaller screens.

If you don't want to attach it directly to the phone. Then put a tpu (thermopolyurethane) case on the note 3 and stick it to that instead.
I have been using one for over 4 months now and it works great.:good:

man that look weird...
Those are huge hands or that's a small phone
There's a lot of one handed operation features in this phone (dialer, messaging and calculator) so it's not a problem for me ..my favorite is shrinking the sceen with gesture feature and you can size it bigger whatever is more comfortable for you .. it's awesome !!!

It's a 4.8" Galaxy S3, so average-sized hands.

BTW - a lot of people have no idea how large or small their hands are, so, go measure 'em to get an idea and compare against the average (for each sex). Measure from the base of your palm to the end of your middle finger.
```The average length of an adult male hand is 189 mm, while the average length of an adult female hand is 172 mm. The average hand breadth for adult males and females is 84 and 74 mm respectively.'''
I'm way above average, thankfully. *cough*.
Go to settings and search for 'one handed operation'
Then enable 'use for all screens'
It will tell you , to enable slide to the edge and back.
Thanks a million.
