Beats audio settings with DSP Manager. No apks or extra flashing needed. - HTC One X

So let's say you rooted your HOX, but you kinda liked the Beats audio processing sound on your stock phone. There are APKs and Zips out there that let you get the files you need, but none of them really prove that they work, and some of them get your phone so messed up that you have to reload your rom. Yeah, I've installed them all. I've figured out the best settings in DSP Manager to give you that Beats Audio sound, if you're into it.
To begin, let me say I'm a headphone guy. I have over 50 pairs, ranging from crappy Senns to great Senns, to ridiculously expensive Grados and Ultrasones, and one I dare not mention because it cost more than my life. You know about a headphone? I probably have it. But that's for another forum. The point I'm trying to make is that I'm really into sound. And I wouldn't post a thread saying that I can reproduce the Beats Audio sound with DSP Manager's EQ settings alone if I didn't believe it.
I also have both the stock AT&T with Beats on (2.20) and a rooted HOX. So that means hours on hours of real side-by-side comparisons. Nothing from memory.
For this experiment, I used a pair of Etymotic HF5s with custom molds. No, these aren't the best headphones I have, but they do provide the biggest difference in sound from turning Beats on and off (to my ears). So I thought they were good for trying to recreate the sound on my rooted phone without Beats installed.
Instead of walking you through the settings, I've posted photos of them. Other than the EQ settings themselves, these need to happen:
Headset only - I didn't do this for speaker or bluetooth
Bass boost enabled - slight
EQ enabled - image attached
Loudness compensation disabled
Headset virtual room effect disabled
There you go. Over time, I will probably tweak the EQ slightly as I see fit, but I think it's close to spot on right now. So there it is, Beats audio sound with no beats installed. But you need a rooted phone with DSP manager.
Thanks and let me know what you think.

If it's the same for the international hox you can leave it here, it's just settings that you changed ? But I was a bit confused because i only see you speaking about the AT&T version

If its universal, it can stay here. Otherwise I could move it to the OneXL forum for you.

I reposted it there but can't figure out how to delete this post.
also, if the international version has beats, then yes, this is universal.

Your 2nd thread is now gone. Sadly I don't think this would constitute development. Whilst a very helpful bit of info, I just don't think it makes it there.

It can remain here If you'd prefer.

Could you write the settings down also?
I find it easier reading than trying to re-create from an image?
Thanks

I may not have an HOX but i think what I'm about to say/ask is for this thread too.
I'm using an app called Music Volume EQ (free from the Play Store) on my Desire S Sense 3.6. Don't get me wrong, CM is a great ROM but I think it's not for me. So, I'm trying to recreate your DSP setting on the app with 4-5-0-3-6 setup on the 5-band equalizer, Virtualization is OFF, Bass Boost is ON and about set to 5 clicks from the left.
What I'm trying to say is that the setting works great even not on just DSP Manager.
Sometimes I change the Bass Boost setting to my liking.
Thanks for the great post.

I know that there is no other way to immitate Beats Audio other than Beats Audio itself.
What we can do is maybe just make a setting that is "closer" to beats audio.
So, if not, any suggested changes?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app

Ok, so i like to try this, but unfortunately, i tried many DSP managers, apd, zip etc but they tremendously distort the sound whenever i activate the equalizer or put bass boost on mid.
Anyone have a good distro that works without distortion? I think that the audio limiter doesn't work on these, that's why bass gets distorted quickly. Oh, when i talk about distortion, it's definitely no the earphones since it occurs at very low volume levels.

Thanks for this, makes a big difference to my music experience

Rockbox for Android - Unleash your music!

Sure some of you have heard or even used Rockbox before, my Sansa Clip rockboxed sounds off the hook! Well you may or may not know Rockbox is also available for Android, unstable officially but some clever geniuses have already ported it and made an application for this some time ago.
Sure it may not have a fancy interface but I can live with that! We all know the SGS2 is not one of the greatest sounding phones out there especially after Supercurio magically enhanced the first version of the device with his great Voodoo control! Samsung let us down in v2 by getting rid of the Wolfson chip, however not all is lost, as users have discovered KI3 firmware 2.3.5 and kernel improves sound compared to previous versions!
Pair it up with this app and prepare to enjoy some loud decent sounding music! Well that depends on what your ears are wearing! My collection of headphones sound great.
Credits to RockBox for their commitment in bringing us better sound, and credits to Rasher for his app!

Give it a try, this has it's own EQ which is highly customisable. Even on stock settings with the new KI3 kernel and my headphones it sounds good.
I always liked rockbox, used it on my old iPod alot back in the day. However, sorry, but sound quality wise, it doesn't come close to galnet miui + poweramp + dsp manager.

Yes, to my ears it's exactly that - cleaner, more realistic sound. Bass is definitely more punchy and tighter. There's more background detail. As if they somehow improved the whole headphone amp hardware of SGSII. Don't know how they did it but can't complain Some records sound maybe a bit dry compared to stock player or PowerAmp but even then I just can't resist the clearer presentation of Rockbox. The real downside is that I'm starting to wonder how much more I'm missing from the music using a crappy (SQ-wise) phone and fairly cheap IEMs

Thanks for the DSP Manager links! I have been using Equalizer for months but decided to test DSP manager now, and it really rocks! I like that it is a system app as well and that it works for all players. I use Spotify, Google Music, and Pocket Casts, so I need an equalizer that works for several music players. Equalizer would sometimes not work perfectly, but DSP Manager seems solid!
Dsp all the way. I used to use power amp and never cared much for dsp but the Apollo / dsp combo is fantastic.

Huge fan of PowerAmp. I love the UI and the fact that it does gapless perfectly.
I do however keep the EQ turned off. The Klipsch S4 sound great with the GNex set flat.

i use volume+ and it's working fine on my GN.
wow looks like im the only person thus far that uses Equalizer your missing out
DSP manger FTW
Surprised volume + isn't on this list. It makes the speaker sound way better and twice as loud. But if I was to pick from op's list I would say equalizer.
I personally get better sound using poweramp. And I love the player because it actually shows the right album art.

Hi phone_user,
I agree 100%,Volume+ in first then Equalizer since it's on the list
And probably it's ridiculous but Volume+:75Ko/Equalizer:2,1M... and more RAM used just for a sound app(ok more features than Volume+ like widgets).
But since this thread is not a comparo between Volume+ and....I choose Equalizer.
You should have done a poll
I don't really use a music effects app, because honestly I don't know what their potential is... never really played around. But does it make that much of a difference (i.e. better music quality)? If so, which app and settings do you recommend? Screenies w/ setup please.

It does help quite a bit. I notice the stock audio sounds so flat and dull... with equalizer I up the treble and bass cuz it also lacks the thump I like. I listen to a lot of metal and sub genres of that...(metalcore, Hardcore, etc) so the higher treble sounds nice. Here is where my equalizer is at. The treble is a tad high but you can always lower it to your liking. I have the same "v" shape on my laptop with beats audio.

Improve Audio

Hello Everyone,
I'm Mentafagyi and today i fetched you a fix for audio. (i know there are a lot of pictures, but its easier to know what am i speaking about )
Fix is good for:
-Speakers
-Any headset
-On ALL Android Systems (Android 2.3 - 4.0.4 + LeWa + MiUi Tested and working, not sure 1.6-2.1)
Requirement:
-Usable brain
-Phone with bad audio quality
-Root
-Android 2.3 and Android 2.3+ or LeWa or MiUi
-Know to flash .zip files in CWM Recovery
What does it do:
-fixes weird and scratchy sounds when on Max volume (speakers or headsets...)
-increases the Maximum Volume of your phone, even on speakers and on headsets
I don't undertake responsibility for any damage!
So lets start:
0.) DELETE APPS LIKE DSP MANAGER, VOLUME+ OR AUDIO HANDLING SOFTWARES (Music player's equalizer is not problem)
(Problem = Apps, what modyfi sounds on whole systen, not just one app)
1.) Download this file: https://hotfile.com/dl/160523830/a559250/Beats_Audio.zip.html
2.) Extract Beats audio.zip
3.) Put beats_aceport.zip and cooper_beatsxaudio.zip files on SD Card
4.) Reboot in CWM Recovery
5.) Flash beats_aceport.zip then flash cooper_beatsxaudio.zip
6.) Reboot
7.) Go to Play Store and search for: equalizer, then download the first one made by Smart Android Apps, LLC (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer)

}
8.) Start the app, you should see this:
9.) Scroll to the end of the pages, to "Enjoy!" Page, and tick "Don't show again" then press continue
10.) Press the Power On/Off button at the top right corner
11.) Tick everything then click OK
12.) Tick the "Enable auto-detect for presets" and press ok to the Message, what will pop up, then select the Normal preset (with the Android logo)
13.) Scroll the page to "EFFECTS", and set Bass Booster to 100% and set Virtualizer to 60%
14a.) If you want louder sound, and not a big echo, set the thing at the bottom of the page to NONE (Here if you set sound to max theres still Scratchy and Weird Sounds, but you don't have to turn the volume up to the MAX, cause its SO LOUD!)
14b.) If you want louder sound, and a bit bigger echo, set the thing at the bottom of the page to Small Room (Here if you set the sound to max there won't be big weird and scratchy sounds, but you will have a a bit bigger echo)
Reserved

Compatibility:
All Android phones.(doesn't matter that has beats audio or not)
Best Settings at this time:

Reverb: Small room
Equalizer: set all to max

I'm not stupid to Android and Android Apps (I think ) but i can't get Audio FX Widget to work, so i just made a new method to get better sound quality to our lovely beloved Ace
1 more thing:
1. I had an Xperia x8 for 1 year, i was so happy with it, but i just sold it to a girl in my class
2. Then i got my father's gio, i used it for 3 days, then i couldn't format the dalvik-cache, and tryed and tryed many ways... A method sucessed, formated dalvik-cache, but it deleted the whole system and so on on the mobile, so its now in service, it needs a new motherboard
3. I bought an Ace, whats category is S5830i, and i couldn't find any rom, so i changed to an Old Ace, S5830, and now i'm here.
This is why i think i'm not a novice at Android
i moved that to Themes and Apps. Making fixes is a hard work, but this thread doesn't fit to Android Development section. Anyway, good luck with your development

Gaming is amazing ( example : Dead Space) I've been following this mod all the way through and the improvement is amazing from the beginning. SRS works like a beauty and everything sounds very balanced and natural with all genres of music."
"...i have to admit this Sound Explosion is better so naturally and powerfull crystal everything.
On max volume is so loud and on the same time pure no headache ears ache and i can feel the music lol.
I dont know what is inside the zip but is extraterreateial
I dont need anymore a EQ or PowerAmp the stock player is a BEAST
Thank you for this MOD IS REALLY A BEAST.
...hehehe now i know why this is called Sound Explosion and i never thinking befor the stock buds can reproduce sound like this..."
"Doc3000 u know u have THE BEST sound mode here.
U just did it once and thats it i try few diferent after each update they are not even closer to the sound of The Explosion.
For everyone who wonder THIS IS THE BEAST of the sound mods ever made.
When i travel and listen with the stock earbuds this mod make them to sound like hight end top ear buds.
I dont use anymore even beats."
"The mod works perfectly with all kinds of headphones. Love the mod and will support it till the end."
DESCRIPTION:
- sound mode based on BBE, SRS, VRS and Dolby sound technologies
- fully reworked M7 sound processing
Recommendations:
- recommended to listen to music without Beats in headphones and with Beats in speakers
(I use in my mode fully ported sound processing from the best music smartphone BBK Vivo Xplay. You don't need Beats Audio at all.
But it's better to turn ON Beats when you play music in speakerphones for Boomsound effect.)
In the headphones with Beats OFF:
- impressive sound with the overall clarity, natural not artificial
- perfect sound detailization and contrast
- definitive sound channels separation
- wide stereo field
- audio experience like in the theater space
- low harmonic distortion
In the speakerphones with Beats ON
- loud and powerfull sound

please let me know what is your ROM. my mod have been tasted on stock android 4.4 with sense 5.5 and insertcoin-m7-7.0-3
This looks cool! Will try it out as soon as possible, but do you recommend turning beats off or leaving it on?
Thanks in advance.

If you cared to read AT ALL. you'd have seen that this mod is only for Android 4.4 Sense 5.5 builds. ViperROM 2.7 is not based on KitKat and neither is the latest release, 3.5. This mod is not for you, you kinda deserve what you got with that flash first, ask questions later thing you got going on there.
How is it compared to zero mod?

Sounds great! Definitely hear a difference... Fuller than before.

i can confirm this MOD is amazing. dB have increased 10 dB
I'm on Eragon 17,with no sound mod..I tried zero mod for KK 4.4 Sense 5.5,all work fine, only one problem is if my phone is connecting with my bluetooth earphone, when a sms msg coming,i cannot hear any sound, only vibrate. When i choose ringtone and notification sound ==> i cannot hear anything or when changing my volume level with volume key ,but if i disconnect my bluetooth earphone,it back to normal Phone call is okay with sound and vibrate. I tried other KK 4.4 Sense 5.5 rom but same result, after install zero mod ( PureX v9 and ERA v10 ) . Hope it will work fine with this mod. Thank you sir

try to use TWRP 2.6.3.3 recovery. I have no problem with it.
Flashed,my own feeling is very cool,it focus on every element of a song : bass,treble,vocal,melody...very equally,i can hear, feel them very clearly, tested with pop, country, audiophile and house . This is what i'm looking for But i still have the problem like i said in post #12,sir doc..can you give me an answer i will be very appriciated
I think the treble was too sharp, make my head boom boom when hearing house music too long

Unfortunately no, when you run the app for the first time, it prompts you for root access to install audio drivers required

Viper4Android FX v2.3.3.0 not working with Spotify
i'd just a bought a Note4 N910U (HK version). Rooted perfectly with CF, so that i could use V4A with Spotify just as i did with my i9505, but not joy. V4A, works with Google Play though - I checked the driver status in V4A, and it says processing = Yes. Not so with Spotify.
I've have tried disabling SoundAlive and AdaptSound. I've also moved V4A using TI backup to system app.
Any hints?
Thanks in advance

have you went into to Settings>Sound>Music Effects> Then choose ViperFX for your Default? You can always uninstall then reeinstall make sure you didnt miss the disable LPA
Thanks for speedy reply.
yeah, i had changed the sound settings too.
The other thing i did just now was edit my build prop. My original build.prop didn't have the lpa lines in there, so i added it in - it was a bit gutsy as i didn't fancy restoring my rom on day 2 of having the note 4. Restarted, and again, no joy.
Does anyone else have V4A working with Spotify on Note 4?

tried all 3 of them buddy... battery saving, high quality and super high quality.
i only use Spotify for my music needs, so it's bit frustrating v4a ain't working on my N910U, whereas it was perfect on i9505 Though like i said, it works fine in Google Music.
i've been thinking about the differences between i9505 and N910U, and maybe its could be 4.4.4 or the new touchwhiz, but then if you guys have got Spotify working on your N910x then i'm probably going to have put some extra time aside and maybe start from scratch... :crying:
That said, Note4 has only just got released in some countries the other day so maybe others might have a similar prob and an easy fix...

Maybe it has to do with the exynos chip you have, let me make sure Spotify works for me because I rarely use it.
what directory do you put the .prf bass file in?

Open viper up, press menu, new profile, save it as something random just so viper can make a directory and then save it under viper/kernel folder. You should see that the one you created should be there as well. Then press menu again on the app and press load profile and you should see the bass one
for some reason, my menu doesn't have the "new profile" option in it
viper is working, and sounds great, I just wanted to try your .prf profile..
do I need to load the viper xhifi too?
thanks
