Thin, lightweight folio case? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Accessories

Does anyone know where I can get a good case for the GN10.1 that can be used as a stand, as well? The case I have is perfect but is far too heavy for my liking. You can't really hold the tablet in your hands without them getting sore due to the added weight.

What is the current case you have?
I have this case but it might not be from this seller. It is light but I wouldn't trust it to protect in a drop. or having a lot of weight put on it. Prevents scratches and the like is what it does.

I have it and really like it.

I bought this case also from a different seller they offered more colors. I got the red one after looking through the Cases thread. They have some great examples in there with pictures and personal reviews.

Sorry for the really late reply, guys. I wasn't able to find the thread lmao.
This is what I have. Yoshie & Nico sell a lot of brilliant cases.

That looks like a great, light weight case. I can see what you mean about the trust, though. It's stylish and light at the expense of protection. I've been considering the actual Samsung one, but I want something with plenty of differing viewing angles. Does this stay shut with magnets or is it just a flip?

I'm using this one: http://www.amazon.com/Blurex-Samsung-Galaxy-Folio-Case-Black/dp/B0089FCX9O

I just got my S-line case (black) from eBay and I love it. It adds very little bulk, seems like it will do a good job protecting my phone, and looks very nice.

There seems to be 2 types of materials, 3 finishes.
On mine, the clearish part is a slightly-bendable hard plastic with the texture of what all of my matte hard plastic. Think the type of plastic that is one most power adapters (that aren't shiny) but add a slightly bendable aspect to it.
The black part on the back is shiny, slick, smooth, and more flexible. It's similar to silicon cases (what I can assume you mean by soft gel/rubber) but I think it's still different. It seems to be less "floppy" even though it is very bendable. The shiny black part seems to "stick" to certain surfaces (such as my desk and other hard/flat surfaces) but not to some that you would expect (it doesn't stick to my pockets at all and glides just fine across my clothing, car seat, and non-leather furniture - it might stick to leather, I don't know). The black part on the front appears to be the same material as the black part on the back, but with a matte finish. The result of the different finish is that it doesn't have the "stickiness" on much of any surface, yet still gives your hand a slight bit of grip beyond what the stock TBolt gives you.
Overall, the "feel in hand" is comfortable and it gives you extra grip but doesn't feel sticky or anything like that. Imagine going from a slick, hard-plastic phone to a phone with a rubberized body (like our TBolt has). Going from a naked TBolt to this case is kinda like taking that one step further. But in no way could I ever describe it as "feeling sticky" in my hand or pocket.

So it looks like/feels like it's not going to just fall apart or anything like that, if that's what you mean. I can't envision drops/dings or other daily use wearing it down.
The ONE concern that I have about it holding up is because it is made with two types of "plastic" (I don't know if it's plastic, silicon, rubber, or whatever, hence my quotes). I fear that if I take the case off and on a lot (for my car dock), that the joints of the two plastics might start to come apart. This is NOT based on any quality issues that I have seen so far, just a concern based on the fact that this wasn't produced in a single mold when it was melted down (this is coming from somebody with an engineering background).
I will be shocked, though, if I have a problem with this case in the next 6 months, and for $5, well, I'd say that's pretty damned good!

Read my post a couple posts up about the 2 different types of materials with 3 finishes. As best as I can tell, the inside is the same material as the outside. What this means is that 60% of it is the very flexible plastic while the clear part does cover ~40% of the back. I would expect the black part to offer more protection to a fall/bump than the clear part, and fortunately the black part covers most of the corners and edges. Still, I expect the clear part to offer more protection than a hard plastic case would.
Updated the OP with some photos. Perhaps they will help.
thanks for the detailed feedback!
This case will also fit into the Verizon holster/shell combo holster. You just can't use the VZW shell, but it'll slide into the holster. The fit is a little snug, but it works. I like to swap out this case with the VZW shell. This one provies more protection, but the VZW one is pretty cool too.
In case anybody was wondering, I got mine from this seller from China: http://goo.gl/62Fhx
It took something like 10 days to get to me, but I didn't mind since it cost less than a good burger.

Otterbox commuter?

Anyone getting this case for the S3?
Any other cases that perform similarly and have decent front-glass protection?
I'm curious about what kind of case I even need.
I'm getting one as soon as it becomes available. I used a commuter on my vibrant for almost two years and loved it. I think galaxy s are a bit thin and light to begin with and preferred the feel of my phone with case on. After dropping my phone about 30 times and there being zero damage I have to say I think the commuter is the is perfect balance of form and function for a phone case.

But thanks for the review, I was thinking of defender, but if commuter is good enough, then defender would probably be overkill.
Why isn't it out?! Come on you Otters! Ramp up productions!!! The whole world is waiting!!!
From what I have seen, commuter case don't come with front glass protection right ?? How will it save the screen in case of a drop then ?? I'm also looking out for good case but defender is kinda too bulky for me , also don't want to lose on protection factor...
will try that when it's available
I want to get the commuter case but I'm waiting for a local seller to have it in stock cause i live in south east asia and shipping prices are a *****.

You have 3 basic paths you can take. Flips, pouches, cases, all with some drawbacks.
Flips will cover the screen which is their major benefit. The drawbacks with them are that many find it annoying in day to day use and some while covering the screen do not otherwise provide good drop protection. The ones that do both will be bulky.
Pouches cover the entire phone and usually provide at least moderate drop protection. Downsides here are that you usually drop the phone while using it and the entire time you are doing so the phone remains unprotected. It also puts another step in between you and answering a call. This one tends to be best for people who like to use their phone naked because of the look or feel.
Cases do not cover the screen. Protection otherwise varies widely depending on the case. These have the benefit of providing whatever protection they do provide at all times without having to fuss with the flip or removing and returning to a pouch.
Realistically there is no perfect case, you must compromise in some area whether it be screen protections, drop protection, bulk, ease of use, etc. For myself when I tried a flip case I most def didn't like it. Gave the pouch that came with my N1 a go for a while and I did kinda like that one until I dropped it onto the pavement while pulling it from a pouch. Those were tough phones and it survived the drop with nothing more than a few scratches but it moved me back to getting a case again. I'm fairly big and like to bulk up modern phones as I find them easier to handle so I actually prefer a bulkier case and will probably go with another tough case. Thats me though, everybody has a different take which is why there are so many options.
i'm looking to get a commuter as my last case purchase for this phone. having a phone covered in silicone and backed by hard plating is the best protection you can get for a phone.

"Built-in screen protector prevents scratches while retaining the touch sensitivity of the screen."
So I guess there is some kind of protection for the front side, but it cannot be too thick as it has to retain the ability to use the touchscreen. I guess if you drop it to any sharper object which reaches over the few-millimeter outer casing, your screen will shatter like any other. The third picture at their site shows the screen protector.

yea I know that what I'm looking for is something made out of silicone that raises the screen up to avoid direct contact with a phone. I don't want a flip case as it would get it my way while typing
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well the added protection to your screen is basically provided by the soft silicone. It is a damper and it will absorb most of the energy from the drop before it ever gets to the phone itself. Unless you get the screen directly hitting a corner or a stone you will be fine probably. I have a commuter in my SGS II and it is great, I've had it for a year almost and I've dropped my phone maybe a couple of times and there is not a single scratch/broken screen. The defender is way too much and it will add a lot of bulk to the phone.

That's one of the things I like about the Otterbox too, none of the ports are exposed unless they're in use. Would be nice if they could find a way to somehow put these things on a diet w/o sacrificing protection but I guess it's a very small price to pay ensure the safety of your $600 device that contains information that is priceless

Why even bother with a minimal protection case for gs3?

The genuine galaxy s3 battery covers are so inexpensive! $7.99 straight from the verizon website.
I'm starting to think a cover with minimal protection that costs more than the battery cover itself is silly.
However, I do think it makes sense to use a bumper case for the phone, one with a slight lip on both the top and bottom to offer some protection to the screen/camera when you lay it flat.
This phone is too beautiful to cover it up......
anyone with me?
I agree sir. I used to have one of those barely there cases on my GS1 but it didn't cover any of the corners or the front so yeah... they don't make sense to me either unless you're just trying to protect your battery cover from scratches. I picked up this rear cover for that exact reason.

Easy.
Most people want to protect their battery cover from dirty tables as well. If you accidental put your GS3 on a wet table, the case is good. The cover not so much.
for me personally, this phone needs a case just for ergonomics. Without one im constantly hitting the volume rocker/power button by accident. at least with a slim case my fingers can go over the buttons without accidentally pressing them. They also cover the sides of the phone and add a little lip protection to the front.
I have a sgp ultra thin btw..
I ordered that cover! Same color and everything. I'm currently using tpu bumpers and waiting for that cover to come in.

For me...grip. The OEM battery door is so damn slippery. I also have the same the blue/carbon battery door on order for this reason.
You may ask why even bother, but do you really want to risk it. I mean these phones are quite expensive.

I use minimal protection for decent grip and as someone else said, to keep from accidentally hitting buttons. Besides, a little protection is always better than none whatsoever.

lol i had the exact same thoughts as OP...but thought i might put a target on myself to get flamed haha
my opinion is the same. what is the point when these relatively expensive cases provide zero protection on the corners and the front? the battery cover can be easily replaced..and cheap too. the front? not so much...in my opinion if im getting a case for protection then it has to have a decent front raised lip and good corners protection..

For an inexpensive case I think its fine. The novelty of having a stylus is a bonus. There are other hybrids out there for less if you keep looking. This one while lacking the color you may be interested in, would be another option.

I have that case, the paint has already begun chipping off the edges of the grill and there is a crack by the charging port after about a month of use.
i have that style case. i like the bulged up corners which protects great in falls, and the lip is pretty good sized amount so if it falls face down it doesnt really scratch. i put it in my pocket and it doesnt slip off due to the hard case around the rubber. i do recommend it. i got this case to match my grabber blue mustang gt

Poetic Affinity Case Review

Got my Poetic Affinity Case in today and figured I'd write a quick review. These poetic cases are very similar to UAG in looks and design but for 1/3 of the price. They are single peice hard poly carbonate and very ridged. Overall a nice design with a clear back to show off the beauty of your aluminum backed phone, offer a nice lip around screen for medium drop protection. My only issue is that the buttons are a little stiff but I suspect they will break in over time. I'm satisfied with my purchase and feel like it was a really good deal at around $10. It plays well with my spigen crystal screen protector and offers a good grip and feel in hand. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask. Sorry for the quality of the pics all I has was an s3 to take them.
how is the grip on it?
I had the Spigen Bumper Premium and it was still too slick for me..
Right now i have this case.. Zizo armor.. Super grippy.. but had to modify the power opening.. plus it squares off the phone and doesn't really show the HTC Beauty..

in all honesty the case looks and feels good, great grip, my 2 issues with it was the taking it off because its harder "plastic", and the other issue was that the case doesn't exactly fit on top of the back of the phone, so it gets a lot of dust under there and you're gonna want to clean it.
If you can manage to take it off better than i could i would recommend the case, makes the phone a lite more bulkier but shouldn't be a problem, it wasn't for me.
I just got the Spigen rugged armor today, it's really great too, using it now!
IMO:
Poetic: good protection and good looks, still showing off your metal
Spigen Armor: good protection and good looks, no metal show off
Orzly crystal: not as good protection (thinner) but still good, and very transparent
Sorry for mentioning other cases on this thread but those are the 3 i got and i can give my opinion on

well my case came today...
First Impressions:
Good:
1. Case feels premium.
2. Phone has great grip and texture.
3. Cutout for charger seems to be large enough for all my chargers, but will test more later.
4. Clear plastic is thick and doesn't have any tinting.
5. Cutouts for camera and speakers and mics seem perfect.
6. Buttons work great and have grip on them.
Bad:
1. Headphone cutout is small, should work for standard headphone plugs, but for a computer speaker plug in, it will not fit.. i may need to modify.
It will be interesting to see how the case does after a few days of testing... hopefully it will hold up as I really like the style and feel.
Thank you.
Shadows?
Came across this case the other day in my internet travels looking for something similar to my Supcase Unicorn Beetle Hybrid for my M8. The only case SC has for the 10 looks like a gawd damn brick. Ok for some, just not me. So, my question is, can anyone please confirm whether photos taken in this case cause any kind of blur, or shadow, from the cut out. I'm not talking about the known issues with lens flare here too, just to clarify. I've never owned a clear case but have heard of some that do cause a shadow (I am assuming a reflection from flash off the clear cut out).
Cheers.

since they are completely cut out, should not have any interference.

only complaint after 1 day use was the headphone plug too small for the larger plugs.. like for computer speakers.. so i used a round file and widened it..
so now its perfect.. great grip. love how it shows off the phone.. slim and shaped like phone.

That's exactly what i'm looking for. Thanks for the replies J4G, and the review.
Hey man, I was just about to purchase from Amazon, thought i'd read through some of the reviews and some people are advising where the camera cut out is, the case sits up off the phone a little (i.e. not flush with phone), allowing debris in through the cut out. Looks flush from your last pic. Is this true?? I really don't mean to sound pedantic want to make sure I'm happy with case before I pull the trigger cause there's none to be found in Oz and I don't want to have screw around with returns.

from what i can see, that does appear true... I haven't seen much dust and debris get in there.. however i have only had it on a few days. :silly:
I will say that a lot of people said they are a pain to get off.. however I can attest that mine is like any other case.. it does hold on well, but just peel back a corner and then work on another corner, it pops right out.. so should be easy to clean..
