screen outward facing belt clip case - Galaxy S III Accessories

I have spent 20+ hours trying to find a belt clip case offering moderate to extreme protection that allows the screen to face outward and have not been able to find a single case that meets my criteria.
I have dismissed the Otterbox Defender & Griffin Survivor because of their built in screen protectors and the Rokbed v3 because of the belt clip.
I found several inexpensive ones that do not offer enough protection including the Puregear Utilitarian.
Reason I don't want the built in screen protector is I use anti fingerprint protectors and removing the built in protectors is not an option because it leaves the adhesive residue.
I am at this point astounded at the difficulty I'm having finding a belt clip case for my new S3 and would be most grateful for any suggestions.

The OB defender screen plastic can be removed. Thats how i use mine, No screen plastic with a regular self adheseive film. Best thing i could of done to it. I havent had issues with the rubber stretching, but you can boil the rubber liner for 5 minutes then let it cool to make it shrink again.

I was going to order the Defender last night until I saw the reviews on Otter's website. 26 of 49 reviewers would not recommend it to a friend, many stated the outer rubber casing becomes lose after 2-3 months and previous Otter users said they were dissatisfied with the overall quality. There were various other complaints too. I was going to put up with the fingerprint smudges until I watched a You Tube review of the Griffin Survivor. I really don't want to have to take an exacto knife to a brand new fairly expensive case either.

1slow4G,
Many, many thanks for posting the above link. It looks like removing the screen protector may be my only option as this Body Glove case may be my only option.( My guess is it is not anti-fingerprint.) The Tough Suit is more protective than the Body Glove case on my Captivate Galaxy S.
The below links for the Monaco aluminum case is exactly how my Captivate Body Glove case functions and I would have ordered it if it was a non-metal case. I have read on these forums that the aluminum degrades phone signal strength and can effect the GPS & NFC functions which leaves me wondering why anyone would use an aluminum case. The You Tube review states the 3 holes on the back of the Monaco case are to prevent phone radio & GPS interference but there is no mention of NFC interference and since the NFC tile is on the battery there is no hole in the battery area so I'm highly skeptical. In fact I'm going to start another thread asking for others thoughts and experiences with aluminum cases.

An additional benefit to the removable belt clip used on my Captivate Body Glove (the Monaco does not have the kickstand feature) is the kickstand incorporated into the belt clip which allows both portrait & landscape orientation (a feature I use all of the time). I also like the ability to quickly remove the belt clip and store it in my center console cupholder when using my Akron car dock. (I'm thinking the Tough Suite holster is probably to large to fit in the cupholder.)
If anyone else has suggestions please post as I think after 20+ hours trying to find a case that does what my current case does I have reached the desperation stage.................lol. But seriously I had no clue it would be this difficult to replicate the case features and screen protector I now use.

I got this one http://www.case123.com/Ballistic-SG-MAXX-Rugged-Case-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-p/p01ssi930hy004bk_bal.htm from ebay for 9.95$ you can set the phone on the belt clip facing in or out. It also comes with a plastic screen protector, which is removable. I personally didn't like the screen protector, so I don't use it.
Youtube drop test
Ebay link It seems it was sold out, but I guess you could find a similar offer on ebay.

Did your case come in the actual Ballistic packaging shown in the You Tube review? Reason I'm asking is because the $9.95 price seems way too low and the video shows the holster has a large sticker on it stating the case is only designed for screen in insertion. If yours is the authentic Ballistic SG Maxx are you saying the phone is held as securely screen out as it is screen in? If yours is the authentic one and it does hold as securely screen out as screen in I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why Ballistic put the sticker on the holster. I certainly hope yours is authentic and the phone is just as secure screen out as screen in so I can order it and be done with what has become a ridiculous time consuming ordeal trying to find a case. Makes me wonder how many cases I may have seen that allow screen out or in holster placement but only show a picture of screen in so you have no way of knowing screen out is an option. At this point I'd gladly give up having a kickstand just to be done with trying to find a case.

The below link from Amazon shows Ballistic SG Maxx cases ranging from $8 to $29 and I'm thinking the $8 ones are knockoffs considering the case is $50 on Ballistics's website but I may be wrong.

I watched a You Tube review of the Seidio Active w/ kickstand & holster last weekend where the reviewer placed the phone in the holster face out for 2 seconds (and it seemed like he was fumbling with it) so I thought that was a case/holster combo that would work. I called Seidio customer support last Monday to verify the screen out holster placement and was told yes, screen in or screen out. I called again Wednesday to ask about the extended battery model & desktop cradle but this time was told the non-extended battery model could only be put screen in into the holster. So I called their Tech Support (rather than Customer Support) to get a definitive answer and the individual I spoke with actually went and got one of the cases and said the phone will not fit/attach securely screen out.

The sg maxx is 27 on ebay. Authentic

Yeah you're right, my bad, it doesn't really work with the screen facing outwards. I haven't tried until today, I thought it would work since the case has the holes where it snaps the phone to the clip on both side. Either way its a pretty good case and clip, for cheap, AFAIK it's authentic. The seller was selling it as refurbished and it didn't come in an official Ballistic Box, but it has the logo on the case and the clip. Sorry about the confusion again , hope you find what you are looking for.

[Q] Innocase for Droid 2 - "Now shipping"

According to Seidio's online store their Innocase is now shipping. Innocase is well reviewed for other phones. Anyone have comments on their new Droid 2 version?
Otterbox is coming out with one soon, its posted on the website. I'm excited for that. I honestly prefer Otterbox over Innocase.

Was gonna buy the seidio, till I saw the otterbox case... now I don't know which to get
Innocase on the way
The Otterbox case seems similar to Innocase i.e. polycarbonate shell with a thin rubber-like coating to aid gripping. I already have a screen protector in place (and a spare) so I didn't need it (included with Otterbox).
Other cases I read about had issues with the slide keyboard. Either the case interfered with sliding or it was thick enough to block some of the top row of keys.
I went ahead and ordered the Innocase combo..... Innocase plus belt holster. Should arrive in a few days. I will post my impressions of the case.

yeah, I tried one of the verizon OEM cases, and it definitly hindered the opening of the keyboard, and the top row. Enough so that I have serious doubts about whether any case will not have this problem.
Also I've had the misfortune to already drop my phone (albeit short drop), and whatever the material that surrounds the screen is EXTREMELY brittle, and shattered off a fair number of chunks.
That being said, I think I'll probably just wait on a case until perhaps my phone starts "having lots of problems" a week or so before the warranty is up and I have to get a replacement one.

Let us know if it fits the OEM multimedia cradle please (if you have one).. I'm dying for a good case that fits the cradle and doesn't hinder the keyboard like most of the hard shell ones i've tried (including the VZW and some cheapo ebay one)....

It does not fit the cradle--between me and my 2 coworkers we have been thou 6 or so different cases and this is def the best one so far. No interference with the keyboard slide either, if the case was any thinner it would fall apart.

Assessment of the Seidio Innocase
I bought my Innocase via Seidio on-line store. The process was easy and shipped the same day via FedEx. I purchased the combo of the case and holster. However, Henry Ford must have been the design consultant for the D2 case. Unlike cases for the iPhone, you can have any color as long as it’s black. My wife reports that this is so BORING!
The case is made of a polycarbonate that is coated with a thin non-slip rubber-like material to improve gripping the phone. The case is only about 1/16 inch thick. The Innocase comes in 2 pieces that attach to the lower (sliding) and upper (display) portions of the phone with very small tabs that grip the edges. Though very small, these tabs secure the case well. Installation is a snap . I can report that the Innocase does not interfere with sliding mechanism in any way. Cutouts are provided for all phone items such as power connector, headphone jack, microphone, speaker, volume control, camera, power switch etc. The case does remove easily for access to the battery/ microSd.
Regarding operation of the slide out keyboard; I have found no difficulties. The D2 (without case) has less than 1/8 inch space above the top row of keys. The Innocase uses a minimum amount of this space. I found that even with my fat thumbs I had no difficulty (i.e. no missed or erroneous key presses) using the upper row of keys. In fact if I slipped my thumb up against the edge of the case I was positioned right over the top row keys.
Seidio has 2 holsters available; non-cased devices and Innocase devices. I have the Innocase holster. The holster is well built and provides a secure belt attachment. The belt clip swivels allowing vertical, 45-degree or horizontal carrying of the phone. To secure the phone you slip it in on the bottom and snap the clip on the top. The top clip is offset so it does not interfere with headset & power switch if you clip in with the screen facing in. The inward facing screen is recommended to reduce screen scratch risks. The holster is felt lined to protect the screen.
In summary I am very happy with the Innocase and belt holster. They are well designed and constructed. I recommend them for anyone with a Droid 2.
I do not own a cradle. I notice Seidio has a cradle for the Droid that works with Innocase. I would call them and see if the same cradle will work with the D2 & Innocase.
Thanks for the reviews. Sounds like the best case out there for sure.
Would you mind posting some pictures when you get a chance please? The pics on the seidio site are pretty weak. thanks!
Case and holster photos
Not much to look at
Case back shows cutouts for camera, speaker and USB power. Dull black exterior finish. Case front (not shown) is even less to look at, just a big cut for the screen.
Case tab picture shows a close up of the small tab that clicks onto the phone to secure the case. 4 places on both back and front halves. The shining finish evident in this photo is the interior of the case.
Holster picture shows the support for the bottom of the phone (on left of photo). The clip on the right secures the top of the phone and allows easy removal. On the bottom of the photo is the belt clip.
Hope these help.
I bought the Seidio surface case after finding the el-cheapo snap-on case I bought from an Amazon marketplace seller to be too bulky. The Seidio is no less bulky and was not even as well designed as the cheapo one (which afforded better access to the bottom row of soft buttons). I returned it to Seidio (out my $5 shipping, which was more than the entire cost of the cheapo one), and think it's unconscionable that they charge $30 for these two bits of plastic.
BTW, I have since tried one of the soft gel style cases for the A955 that they sell on ebay -- the kind with the "track slider" that keeps the two gell halves together (sort of like a ziplock plactic channel). This contraption was a completely useless mess, which fortunately only set me back $3 including shipping.
Ultimately, I think the D2 is a relatively thick device that really cannot accomodate a case without becoming way too thick. Thankfully, I've come to realize that it doesn't need a case - it already has Gorilla class and a rubberized back. Why bother with more? Mine's been dropped a few times with no signs of the drop at all except to the chrome paint around the edges, which flakes off easily.
Do you have a pic with it on the phone?

Truthfully verizons body glove case is best for non bulkyness.Very stable fits well .ect.
I like my body glove
Personally I have tried the Body Glove case and I like the Otter Box Commuter case a little better. The new Seidio Innocase Active is also a very nice case; a close second to the Otter Box.
Definitely otter box. Slim sturdy and stylish

one problem though it has to slide into my jeans. Most of these cases have rubber and dont slide
Throwing in a vote for the Body Glove case.. great fit with just enough bulk to give you that warm protected feeling

You should check out Techie Warehouse. If you go to the Covers & Skins area for the Droid X you'll find over 300 covers to choose from.
Best one I got laying around was not a Seidio, Otterbox or Trident... it was the Dual Layer Vertex Covers just google "techie warehouse vertex cover for droid x"
I quote from our product description about this product "The Motorola Droid X gets ultimate protection. A Screen Protector and two virtual walls of defense. The inner silicone core absorbs shock from bumps and drops. A hard polycarbonate exterior shell prevents cuts, scrapes, dings, and damage for the Motorola Droid X."
Let me know what you think of it.
i bought one of the 3 dollar black silicone ones off amazon. works fine for me..

I have had the Otterbox, Seidio, Innocase, Verizon, Kragen, but I didnt really like any of them. Iphone cases are so much more refined compared to these.
The Otterbox Seidio, and Kragen cases are too bulky, the Innocase looks good but broke on me, and the Verizon Kickstand Case was too cheaply made.
There is a guy from another forum thats making a phone case. It looks great but its not for sale yet, I am personally looking forward to it because he claims its easy to open and has a bunch of other features. It looks absolutely beautiful, so lets hope he can pull this off.
Right now Im using a cheap Ebay Silicone case, its not great either but it was only $2 and thats value for money. I also got a Smartphone Coaster, its a cheap bit of tin but it does the job for now.

+1 For the Body Glove
I really enjoy my Body Glove, Although I've managed to wear out the snap on the lower left side by removing the case over time to do a battery pull and it no longer holds securely.
I have a Green Trident Kraken on order, due to arrive today actually assuming UPS will brave the icy roads, Good reviews on protection but they all admit to the sacrifice of sleekness.
The pliable verizon silicone case is nice and it fits with extended battery-Motorola and cover. You can find them for $10 online or eBay.
Check ebay item #250759993717
I bought a Sedieo Innocase Surface back in December it cracked in half in January. They are really nice looking, but if you ever have to do a battery pull or if you want to use your car dock, forget about getting it out of the damn case. It fits way to tight. So I am back to the ole Silicone case, which works fine, but sucks if you put it in your pocket, cause it sticks to cloth / jean material.
I'm on my 2nd Body Glove case.
Likes: Belt clip, rubber texture, light weight
Dislikes: Rubber texture deteriorates, weak tabs will not survive impact.
It has kept my DX from scratches but the tabs that snap it together break too easily. First was replaced under warranty. I think I will kick out the $ for an Otter.

Those cases with tabs that snap together aren't meant to be taken apart, after 4 or 5 times they will break. I created a case that opens easily, has no tiny tabs to break and has a multitude of other features.
I've also taken great care to make sure that the case is placed further away from the screen and buttons making it easy to touch the screen and press the buttons on the bottom.
There's space for the OEM extended battery, an extra micro SD card, and even an ID or credit card.
The case also functions as a stand and car mount, my case allows you to watch movies, make movies, capture photos, and use your phones GPS in your car with ease. These features not only work with the Motorola Droid X but with other cases, other phones, and even some other electronic devices such as digital cameras.
The case isn't any more expensive then other high quality cases either. Its 20 bucks and made from the same high strength plastic as other high end cases, so basically if your in the market for a case and other accessories you can pay for just the case and get the rest for free essentially.
If you think this case must be huge and weigh a lot you'd be surprised, its really a simple concept, its almost like a normal cellphone case but we've changed a the design a bit to allow it to function as an adjustable stand.
I can't post links yet so you'll have to google "Jawcase" to find more info, pics, and videos.
I like the Jawcase concept. Alot. I pledged. And good luck with getting your project off the ground Heather. Hope it gets funded.
I've gone through 3 body gloves now with my 4th's clips are broken yet again....
I think its a bit ridiculous that I cant take my phone case off because the clips can't stand it.
I need to find a new case, and I'm thinking of just going with one of the hard-ish silicone cases. The body glove looks great when you buy it, but the rubber wears away like no tomorrow and the clips are destroyed after a couple battery pulls. I had one for my enV touch and it lasted the entire lifespan of the phone with minor tears and such. My droid x's can't last anymore than maybe a month. Don't get me wrong, the body gloves are wonderful, but I'm clearly not having a good experience with it or maybe I'm not handling it properly
+1 for the body glove case. I havent had any issues with the tabs, but i always open it at the bottom with a coin.

Waiting for Galaxy Note black TPU case with stand

I have been using these on my Galaxy S2 and Tab. I didn't like the idea when I was browsing for a new case on Ebay, but when I got it, I soon changed my mind!
If anyone finds anything like it then please post on this thread!

looks like a great idea....but i think i would prefer if the clear stand part be black or grey in colour instead
They come in many different colours and styles. And with stand / without stand
I found something very similar (or identical):

There are other variants on alibaba, the only problem is that the minimum quantity is usually 50-100 pieces :-/
EDIT: found it on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-HYBRI...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item48436c47a9
I bought one before seeing this thread.
When I receive it, I'll tell you if its good/bad etc
when i find something good
,will let you know
I searched on ebay for "galaxy note kickstand case TPU" and got a result:

I eneded up ordering for around $8 the kickstand case with included car charger and 3 screen protectors. Will reply here with a review here once I get it.
I bought one of these too. I figure you can't go wrong for $5.

For $8 I got a car charger, 3 screen protectors and the case.
The case:
Black TPU and Grey Silicon.
Kickstand is Silicon and a part of the case's mainframe.
The Kickstand works well.
The TPU is knife-proof and tamper proof, but dont drop it from a 2.5+ metre height.
The TPU has textured sides which help with grip A LOT.
All the holes and ports (pen) are easily accessible.
The buttons are covered but NOT hard to press.
Whole case is quite thin, so its not very "drop proof" but very resistant to heat and cuts.
Did I say it is thin, so it still fits in my pockets easily.
Verdict: 9/10
This has replaced my Carbon Fibre case (which was protective). This case is a MUST HAVE for any NOTE owners.
Sidenote: I also bought the GPS holder ($6) from the same seller "telegaming", it is also a high quality piece.

[REVIEW][VIDEO] Ballistic SG MAXX Series Case for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (SIII)

http://youtu.be/tKm14N17aSk
On Saturday, we headed out to our local mall in an attempt to find a case for our new Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 that we purchased off of Craigslist. As no surprise to us it was easier to find accessories than the actual phone. As you know if any phones are out there, they were probably a pre order. Sprint stores just began selling today.
AT&T had the best selection actually. There were a few Casemate cases, Body Glove, the Samsung flip cover thingamajig, and this Ballistic case. Since there wasn't an Otterbox anywhere to be found locally, I pulled the trigger on the Ballistic case.
On their website it appears that the silicone portions are very well manufactured. You don't see the little ridge going around it (probably from two pieces put together) and the other imperfections. That makes it really look like a premium product. Otterbox pretty much has their manufacturing process down to a science.
One thing they note on the clip is that the device can only be mounted faced towards the inside. This is great, but I do like option on most Otterbox Defender cases where I can turn it outwards. The clip swivels 360 degrees. That's definitely a plus. It's annoying when clips can't spin the full 360 degrees.
Here are some details from their website:
It’s time to live your life to the Maxx. The Samsung GALAXY S III’s minimal and organic design is reflected in the smooth and non-linear lines of the device. Its human-centric nature provides an ergonomic and comfortable experience with enhanced usability.
Our Ballistic SG Maxx Series offers 4 layers of the best engineered drop protection on the market. This baby offers a durable holster, port covers, a no-slip grip, reinforced corners, but most important a replaceable, rigid, screen protector that provides amazing impact protection.
Advanced four layers of protection
Layer 1 - Molded screen protector provides impact protection for your screen
Layer 2 - Ballistic shock absorbent polymer
Layer 3 - Tough impact resistant polycarbonate shell
Layer 4 - Soft silicone equipped with reinforced Ballistic Corners™
Includes lay-on-table feature - screen will not touch the surface when layed flat on a table
No-slip stability when layed face down
Integrated port covers
Extremely durable horizontal holster
Rigid screen protector provides impact protection and is user replaceable
Click to collapse
If you really think you're going to stay with this device and case for a while the user replaceable screen protector might be an advantage to you. The plastic screen protector will probably offer more impact protection that a ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD or something similar. However, especially when looking a white screen, you can tell how much worse the view is. You can see all the colors of the rainbow. This does happen with most Defender screen protectors I've seen and to a little extent in other products. Good news here is that you can replace that portion with a ZAGG or whatever you desire.
You can lay the phone face down with this case. I find this handy in office environments where you don't want people to know that everyone including your mother are blowing up your phone with texts or Facebook messages.
I'm not keeping this case, but it does offer a lot of protection. I think I'll keep my S3 sleek and sexy for now.
MSRP $49.99 (cost $50 at AT&T store)
Official Page: http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s-3-ballistic-sg-maxx-series-case
Ballistic Cases on eBay.
I already know one person who might respond that this is not the SG MAXX case, but it is. Just saying that I honestly don't believe they would push out 10 of these cases to one store with some the wrong labeling.
By the pictures on their site you can see that the plain SG series does not come with a clip AND there is no 3.5mm headphone jack port.
On the bottom, by the capacitive touch buttons I do have a bump that makes it harder to hit the menu and back buttons. On their website neither case has these. They might have made changes. This could be an early production run. I'd hate for them to have added them later. The cut of the silicone just isn't clean in my opinion, and I'm really not a big stickler on stuff. It just looks like something with a made in China sticker.
Man i used Ballistic with all my other fones seems they dropped the ball with the one for the S3 what were they thinking with the clearance of the buttons

This is a nice comparison of the Ballistic case for Galaxy S3 vs Otterbox Defender. They show the size difference also

I just picked up the regular SG case for my S3 and I am not really impressed. My biggest gripe is that there is no protection for the camera. I was wondering if the SG MAX or otterbox case provided these.
Also, the SG caused my SD card to mount and un-mount very rapidly. Not sure what was happening there. The SG case is also causing my ArmorSuit skin to peel around the edges.
My experience with the S3 has been less than ideal.
The silicone feels very cheap on this case and that screen protector is the dumbest thing ive ever seen. And you do have the ballistic maxx the person who was posting on your youtube video dosent realize when ballistic says 5 layers of protection there including both the holster and screen protector

I figured they were counting anything they could as a layer. That person is on XDA. They just wouldn't stop arguing so thanks. I'm glad Ballistic didn't donate this product because I had to tell the truth!

Need suggestion for horizontal leather belt holster.

I'm trying to find a decent horizontal leather holster for my new S3.
I'm talking about something that looks like the attached file. (apparently I am too lame yet to use a url)
I really like this case but I need it sooner than 2-3 weeks that it would take to ship from Hong Kong. So, if someone has an idea where I can find this case stateside or something similar that will hold the phone with a thin protective case like the Rock case. It should also either have 2 belt loops or a snap that keeps the clip from sliding off my belt.
Thanks.
Check your local ATT corporate store. I ordered a couple leather cases off of ebay and amazon but something was always wrong with them. Either felt cheap or to small to fit my GS3 with a thing case on it. The one at ATT cost as much as the 5 I ordered online but at least I could place my phone in it to see if it fits before I bought it. The case itself has two belt loops and a plastic clip that is not removable. It literally feels like it was made for the GS3 with a small case on it.

I ended up ordering the one from ebay. I know the quality is likely to be bad, but I am extremely hard on these things. I have a hard time paying for a holster that is just going to be broken in 2 months anyway. Even the holsters I get from the stores are this way. In any case, I ordered the holster + black shell combo. I'll see about giving it a quick review when I get them in.
Thanks for the suggestions all.
