[Q] No Data Sense - Windows Phone 8s by HTC

I have a HTC 8S and I can't find Data Sense on the phone. I also can not find Data Sense in the apps store.

Mee three, in croatia no data sense on 8s

Same for me...

http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/microsoft-unveils-data-sense-for-windows-phone-8/
only on Verizon for now...

So, will it available in other devices?

In Portugal, all 3 main cell operators have data sense... (Vodafone, Optimus and TMN).
Works like a charm... :good:

me too

Vodafone IT, me too no Data Sense.

I had it on the Lumia 810 and HTC 8XT. I had to reset the 810 after i took back the 8XT, and restored the backup created on the 8XT. It caused some issues, so i wanted to start fresh. Now Data Sense doesnt show up, nor is it on the 920 i just snagged of eBay. Both Lumias are up to date. Any ideas why it disappeared?

data sense
I have an unbranded 8s European version and after an hard reset without my simcard and w/o my sd i finally got data sense and a few other apps (bing: -weather, -finances, -sports)
hope it's the same on other roms..
Sorry for my bad english..

upgrading an unlocked phone to W6.5

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before but i HAVE searched for this in the forum but couldn't find anyone with the same question..
i have an unlocked orange HTC Touch Pro 2. There is an official Orange W6.5 ROM upgrade from HTC's website and it is the one that is supported with my serial number..
my question is, will i "lose" the unlocking (and therefore the device will be locked to orange sims again) if i upgrade my rom? or will that not be affected?
thanks
answer
ok so since noone answered and i had downloaded the update and couldnt wait any longer to try it out, i went ahead and did the update..
for anyone who has the same question as i had, i now have wm6.5 all went well, 10min update, no problems at all. sim is also still unlocked and all works well

too late now no slowness at all.. very responsive. i actually had the mobile for just 1 day before this update so i might not be able to tell any difference in speed but it seems to have remained exactly the same in my opinion.. in the 'today items' settings, it says 'HTC Sense' but it seems like a colorfull TouchFlo3D to me XD weather gets your location and shows you the weather on the home screen under the clock. 'start' menu and other menus like settings are now in honeycomb style..
still getting used to it and discovering new stuff but so far so good
Similar issue
Hi
Similar situation but dumb question....
unlocked/unbranded TP2 on 02...i have downloaded the proper 6.5 update from HTC..months ago but wary of installing it.
I have made numerous tweaks (all frome here...thank u very much) and lots of of programs / apps etc...do i lose all of that with the upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5 ?
Tried to search on here...and elsewhere....sorry in advance.

as far as i know you will lose any installed apps, any files, messages, contacts etc that are stored on the phone.. so back-up all you need on the flash card before you do it.. software will probably need to be re-installed afterwards though..
Yes you will lose everything that is stored on main memory
Thanks for that...i guessed as much.
Leadign on from that...I can no longer conect via usb cable....hasnt beening working for about a week....wont activesync either.
Been using the charger that came with the phone...and it started to play up..ie had to fiddle with cable to get the charging light to stay on.
also have two desktop cradles for the TP2 and they work fine charging but no usb...any setting on the phone / tweak that can be done...any reset that may help....have obvuiously switched off and on and even left battery out for 10 mins...help !!!

[Q] Desire z slow at messaging

Hi
I have a problem with a Desire Z. Alot of times when I try to send a message (SMS) it takes forever (5min) before it gets sent. If I hit the home-button while watching/waiting for the message to be sent, it's put in drafts instead of keep trying to send.
It's also slow at recivieving messages. Tested with a couple of other phones and compared.
Does anyone else have a simular issue? The sim-card has been used for years with other phones without troubles.
Try using a different messaging app (i.e. handcent)

Same problem for me. Hoping the new OTA solve this problem.
Tap on "send", put the phone away, look at the phone after an hour, somethimes the sms is still "sending" !
I only get this if I have no or very bad signal, i.e. it will wait till it's got a signal to send it.
I wonder if it's worthwhile for you guys to do a factory reset or re-flash the ROM ?
Only thing I can think of is using the "delete old messages" function after deleting all your messages. other than that, I'd try wiping cache and dalvik cache (assuming you are rooted). Re-flashing the ROM should be a last resort (assuming that you even have a custom ROM installed).

This isn't relevant for my problem since it's always good strength + when I tested the slow recivieving the other phones was in the same room, with no problems

So it's possible it's so slow at sending since it has alot of messages in the inbox? It might be the case, but even so it's lame if that's the reason, it's far more powerfull than just handling some textfiles

Thanks for all your answers, will test'em out as soon as I can!

Haha I agree with you on that, mine has messages in it from weeks and weeks ago. the only reason i said that is because when I was with sprint, I had a HERO (i know, they arent even close to the same spec-wise) and it acted the same way your G2 is acting now. I fixed it by doing what I recommended. worth a try
A little nomenclature for you...
OTA - Over The Air update. It's an update that HTC or your service provider pushes to your phone when it does a check-in, if it is more current than the version your phone is running. Basically it's a software patch for the system software located in your phone.
Seeing that you don't know what an OTA is yet, I can deduce that a rooted phone definitely isn't your problem. I think you should check your phone for updates (Settings -> About phone -> System updates -> Check for updates) and see if anything pops up after you hit okay.
If you find an OTA and the problem still persists, you may find a new SIM card would be an ideal option. Let me explain myself here:
When Cingular made the switch to AT&T I was still using a Cingular labeled SIM card. It worked fine until AT&T switched to 3G. When I got a 3G phone, I found that I couldn't get 3G no matter what I tried, because for some reason the SIM spec didn't support 3G. So I had to switch my SIM to get 3G. I've found that with each new spec that comes out, often times the best way to go is just to switch the SIM out each time you get a new phone. Might take a few minutes longer getting your contract up, but new SIMs seem to be sent out to our store (which is a AT&T/T-Mobile vendor) every time a new network spec is introduced by the carriers. I'm not entirely convinced that this is just a strange "coincidence".

Hehe thank you, but I do indeed know what rooting is etc., but the phone we're talking about isn't rooted so it's not the problem.
Just because I haven't bumped into the word OTA doesn't mean I don't know how the updatesystem from HTC works
And yes, it's the latest version, just got a update ticking in, dunno if it fixed the problem yet.

The recent update solved the problem (for my Desire z),
it was an HTC bug
Sorry for the late answer, but one day the mobile just decided to empty it's inbox for whatever unknown reason, and well, that solved the problem.
But thanks for all the answers, once again
the htc sense messaging app is horrible. the dates and times are wrong and it is like a pig. openeing, sending, reading are all slow.
install the vanilla android messaging app as shown here then you dont have to install third party

If you're rooted, I would search around a 'how to' install roms, I would recommend an aosp based jelly 4.1 or 4.2 rom (IE CFX, Cm, PACman or AOKPK)
If you haven't rooted or unlocked your bootloader, then I would contact HTC and say that it is faulty. IF they refuse to replace it, I would suggest rooting and installing an aosp rom as the battery is much better on them.
A quick solution just to the messaging problem might be to clear the 'app data'.
Good luck
Edit: I would be cautious rooting it if it is faulty as you might end up fully bricking if it powers off halfway through or something. If you decide to root, make sure that it won't turn off when plugged into your computer.

Thanks for info but I don't even know if my phone is rooted or no. I bought my phone not from HTC, but from a person, phone was in a original box with all the tapes.
I was googling like 2 hours but i couldn't find any guides which i understand....
Don't know about clearing app data, but i think i'm gonna just do factory reset every three weeks or so till my phone completely DIES IN PAIN.
And gonna buy new one .... These messages yesterday cost me like 20£.

To clear app data go to system settings > apps > messaging > clear app data
A factory reset might also help, but you might as well root if you're prepared to wipe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119

[Q] Disconnected because service is unavailable

Hoping someone can provide some direction. First and foremost I am not a HTC savvy so although there are a few threads here about the same issue none of them relate to me as I have not rooted the phone nor flashed to custom ROMs or anything to that nature. I am simple user of the phone... Now.. to the topic.. so I bought this phone for my brother in law last year as a birthday present, and at the time I had a working phone so I didnt put my mind too much to it.. but I did liked the phone very much. Two months ago, I decided to purchase one of these, so I bougtht an HTC ONE X Phone S720e Android 32GB 8MP 3G WiFi GPS Bluetooth Unlocked White. I don´t recall what versión of Android it carried at the time but looking at the specs it should had come with Android 4.0.3. After loading it up, transfering my files on to it and loading some basic apps, whatsapp, email, Skype... it off coursed asked for a software update two times which I went ahead and did. The last one it installed added Android 4.2.2 and HTC Sense 5. It was working fine, layout changed considerably... now after doing another of the updates to applications and software, specifically the transfer files update it suddenly quit recognizing data services completely. I though it might be something with the micro sim, so I tried testing a couple of others, it didnt make a difference so I decided to back up my contacts and information I had on the phone and did a Factory reset. It wipped it clean but issue remains the sames, it is unable to even recognize the sim card is missing and when I go into settings I see the message Disconnected because service is unavailable.
Reading online, saw a few folks stating that this situation was related to software updates.. so I was wondering if I could get some help on how to get this fixed. Not sure what to do, downgrade to 4.0.3 or how could I get it resolved so appreciate some direction here.
If you go to settings - about - phone identity, does it still shows the imei ? Seen many people here having their imei gone from their phone and becomes an iPod since we can't write it back. Tho you are on stock, so better send it for repair.

It shows up as unknown actually... is this a software related issue then? Im concerned about the other phone going through the same situation... should no updates be installed to it then? That makes it fairly useless and might prefer to send it back and try to get a refund instead.

verizon htc one sense official update.

hi there. i recently bought Verizon HTC one m7. just got delivered. unfortunately now i know why i get it so cheap. Anyways, the problem is that it is on HTC SENSE 5.0. I just want it as stock version like it is officially updated. BU
Must be in a Verizon service area.
Start phone with your Verizon sim card in and with data on and wifi connected.
Go to Settings and look for software updates.
Checking your status will start an update.
You may have to do it twice. It will reboot.
You may want to do a factory reset after it's
fully updated. That will eliminate saved
programs, files, photos on the phone.
