Got a tiny black mark on top right above the earpiece on the bezel, normal? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just spotted a very tiny black dot above the earpiece on the bezel (not the screen) on my note 2; like a mark left by the tip of someone's permanent marker at the China factory. It only looks prominent at particular viewing angles and lighting conditions. This might vary from device to device. Is this normal? Am I being too anal?

picture? is it possible?

Circled---
It looks smaller than you think. (between edge of bezel and glass), if you reflect your own Note 2 in the light you might notice somewhat of the same

Its not too prominent in cases like the following below---
It's hardly distinguishable.
Please let me know.

I see what you mean... well I have the I317 and the T889 (AT&T and T-Mo Note 2) non show that kind of marks... but... the I317 when using an app like "dead pixel test" when I put the screen black... I see some dark spots, lines in the screen... really strange... only noticeable on very dark screen... is like your description... like a black marker on the backside of the LCD... you will never see it unless you have your screen completely black an know what you are looking for...)

Well, I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the bezel. My AMOLED display is perfect, no blobs, lines, vertical / horizontal lines, no tint whatsoever; I am extremely happy seeing a flawless display compared to many Note 2 Verizon and AT&T owners that complained about the dark spots you are talking about. I don't have them at all.
I just have a tiny mark on my bezel which appears to look like it was done by a permanent marker. I don't see any dent. I don't know if this mark is an imperfection, or if I am just being too anal. What do you all think?

Lol, sorry for any misunderstanding, no attitude intended. I bolded the word bezel in my last post because it seemed like you were talking about the display in respect to my device, lol.
Could it be that I am being too picky about a tiny mark?

I have the same thing on the top left bezel and on the right side bezel. But I really can't tell weather it is an imperfection, indentation or what. But like you said its only visible under certain lighting and at certain angles. But since I am OCD, it just drives me crazy knowing that they are there. I'll probably end up getting some kind of case that has a thick lip to cover the bezel area (the Seidio Active case) just so I will not be able to see those spots when using the phone.

Thank you very much for your acknowledgement. Its safe to say this is normal then. It doesn't seem to be an imperfection. There is no dent, and I can see the chrome in those areas as well. May be a little bit too much chrome. These plastic phones definitely deserve a case, no doubt. :good:
looks like other XDA members are more concerned of the phone's performance over aesthetics, lol,
Cheers

spen screen edge problem

I've had a note2 since day1 and the spen on my note2 always acted weird at the edge of the screen. It is impossible to draw a straight line on the right side of the screen. It's hard to describe the problem so I actually drew a couple of lines on the right side of the screen as well as on the left side of the screen for comparison. I uploaded a screenshot showing the difference. I want to know if anyone else can test this using their note2 to see whether this is just a limitation of the spen accuracy or if my note2 is defective.

I cant post a screenshot because usb mass storage mode doesnt work right on linux so id have to email the note i made an i dunno how to do that at this time.
However I tried to make straight lines on the right side moving the spen from lower left to upper right and they had the same hump yours did although not as pronounced.
And then I concentrated and very slowly and deliberately made straight lines again on the right side starting from upper right to lower left and they were near perfect just like the lines on the left side.
My conclusion for what its worth is I think the hum my be a natural variation in your hands movement translated through the stylus. Cause when I really concentrated on drawing a straight line. I did .... no problem.
So I dont think its the device itself. I think your hands wants to naturally curve to the right creating that hump in the point of referrence in the line.

as much as I'd like to believe that is the case, It wasn't. The first set of lines i drew on the left side, and then i rotated the phone 180 degrees and drew lines on the right side (which is now the left side since its upside down) in the same manner.
Also, its not only S Note that this happens in; this issue also occurs in Sketchbook mobile, Draw something... etc. Basically any app that I can draw with the spen is when this problem becomes noticeable.
Edit: I just tried again using a ruler to try and make a couple of straight lines and the same thing occurred so its definitely not natural variation lol
I get this too. If you go slowly in a straight line you can see the drawing point migrate upwards, deviating from the actual pen point, before coming back down as you near the edge...hence the hump. Software or hardware issue?
Mine occurs much closer to the edge of the screen and less severely though compared to yours. On the s note grid pad the hump peaks at about 2.5units from the edge.
not very noticeable on sketchbook but it's still there. Here are 3 screen shots.

I'm fairly confident now this is a software problem. I did a factory reset and I can draw straight lines now. However, considering there is no calibration option for the spen, I'm assuming the software "learns" how you write and auto calibrates accordingly. That's probably why over time the center becomes incredibly accurate and the edges start to suck. I could be wrong though.

Interesting that a software update fixes it, there's been a few discussions of this (I've been following the Note II since it was announced) on the international Note II forums... And the conclusion they came up with is that the wacom digitizer isn't very accurate near the edges because well, the bezels aren't that large and yet it has to be able to detect like the S-pen hovering, and there was discussion about this being a problem on lots of wacom tablets, etc. Although intresting that yours works now after factory reset
Luckyly I haven't experienced this issue with mine...

2 days old note 2
got my note 2 two days ago and it has the same problem on the middle right part of the screen, i don't know whether its from the spen or the screen itself.. has anyone found a solution? i'm gonna take it to the shop today and see if its software related.. otherwise then i'll make them give me a new one :crying:

How can I change the color of a GS3 the cheapest, easiest and best way?

A friend of mine has a white Galaxy S3 and wants to change it to red. What is the cheapest, easiest and the most professional looking way to do it (except putting it in a red case) ?
Back cover is obviously is not an issue, the sides don’t matter either. What I’m interested is the front.
I have thought about changing the glass panel, but the procedure is risky and I might end up damaging a perfectly working phone and void the warranty at the same time.
Other option is to change the whole LCD assembly, but that is too expensive (IMO cheaper to sell the white one on eBay and get a new red one).
Then I looked at some of the skin options, but they look really bad, especially the cutouts for menu and back buttons.
Now I’m thinking of slapping on a red S3 glass panel on top of the existing white one. Haven't thought about what glue to use n all, but I think I can figure something out. My main concerns are : would that work? would it affect the touch responsiveness and screen quality?
Since glass screen protectors work fine, I’m guessing adding another glass screen (albeit a bit thicker than those screen protectors) should work too, right ? I’m also a little concerned about how it would look because of the added thickness. Has anyone done this before?

I got mine from china. it's a screen protector that has a red color. if you want to, check the qi wireless stickied thread to see what kind of red mine is. but it's a simple red screen protector.
I believe there is a brand called Mercury that has it in red, but it doesn't extend completely to the edges. there's a 2mm gap i think.
@tengtengvn whats there to face palm ? You have heard of glass screen protectors right ? Putting on a new glass panel shouldn't be much different. I'm asking because I see it as a viable option . Any obvious reason why it shouldn't work ??

Thanks, thats the best looking skin/screen protector I've seen so far.But there are few issues with it: The Mercury logo, cutout for proximity sensor seems little too big (would've been better if they had two separate circles instead of one oval cutout). And the red is little too bright. But I'll keep an eye out and see if I can find better photos of it. This might be a better option
unfortunately, you'll be very hard pressed to find an exact liking. I would use www.aliexpress.com for stuff that is found in china. the downside is that it'll take a long time to arrive (2 weeks or something).
You would also need someone who can read mandarin to understand what some of their pictures say.
I had someone here who was very extremely fantastic and nice who helped procure the skins for me.

Galaxy Note 3 Revisions?!

Today I found something interesting.
My first N3 was a white 900T, the back had no stampings and the home button was the one that could shift and look un-even, basically what all note 3 have. My N9005 was also this way & my 900P too.
Today I received another 900T which took some heritage from the NOTE 2 & has the silver living with the same kind of button used in the N2 that could not slide around and makes it tighter. This one also has the body stamped with device model # in the plastic unlike any of the other N3 which did not. It is also now Stamped TM in grey on the bottom. The Blacks are also not as sharp on the new N3 screen is more washed out but barely.... But I dont know if that is the glass screen protector or not.

Can you post pics of what you're referring to please? It's hard to tell what you're talking about just from your description.
Also, my Note 3 doesn't have a problem with the home button shifting.

some home buttons can develop an issue where the corners go limp and also. If you put your fingers to each side of button you can wiggle it pretty decently. But this note has the style from note 2 has 0 wiggle like all the other note 3 and looks nicer

if you take your battery door off does the plastic on the bottom say 900t and some numbers? And also stamped TM? It would be to the right of the metal square. Theres an N2 pic ill take n3 one soon.
I tried to knife it off incase it was a sticker but it turned out not to be.

Now that you point it out, my Note 3 does have info stamped in two places under the battery cover. On the bottom in the center to the left of the silver square it says N900T_#1-3 and it does say TM under that. But also on the top right, next to the SIM slot, it says N900A/T#4-1. I wonder what those numbers mean.
But my home button is pretty secure besides it moving up and down when I press it.

Its most likely just factory stuff so workers can know which pieces go on which revisions. I guess some models are special snowflakes since they are so close together it was probably built in unison at same factory. Others like 900P did not have the stampings....nor did my first 900T.
The button thing is just....plain weird though
Isn't that a pic of a Note 2? The bezel looks like a Note 2 and the it doesn't look like a 3.0 connector either. The 3.0 connector is about as wide as the home button.
Looks just like this Note 2 to me.

Have you seen a note 3, check the picture. tell me your self the difference.
Did...nobody notice "Theres an N2 pic ill take n3 one soon."
Sorry no, I guess the "theres" through me off.

Manufacturer defect??

Hi there,
I've just received my smartwatch 3 and love it, however I've noticed there's a ridge at the top of the screen that I can feel if swiping down the screen. Swiping up it feels smooth at the bottom of the screen. It's almost as if the top of the screen needs to be recessed a bit more.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks in advance!
I do not experience this myself. Sounds like a manufacturing defect for sure.

it has been discussed before, but it seems that there's no definite answer...

I actually don't mind it has stop the glass from scraping on thing a couple times.
I think it is because we pull the top band down and connect it to the lower band.
Talking of which, I actually do not like the band. It is a cross between a metal and leather band. In that a. it isn't metal and b. it connects like a metal band, and if you catch it on your trousers/shorts/pockets/other it opens. It is one of the reasons I prefer leather/regular bands. Now, if they had a cover over the mechanism, that would make a world of difference.
It's definitely a defect, I took mine into an affiliate Sony store and they agreed that it was no longer how it should be.
Unfortunately as I didn't buy it there they wanted to charge me to send it back to Sony so I didn't bother.
Screen moving in and out the case at push/hard touch
I have just bought mine and besides the disappointment that AW isn't even close to what I could do with the SW2 I realized that when I touch harder or slightly push the screen at the top (10:30 and 1:30) it goes in almost 1 mm, at the lower end (6 o'clock) a little less. I have tested it in water at the sink jet and so far so good, but I'm still thinking if I should return it because it could affect some of it's properties (IP68).
Could you please take a look at yours and let me know if your screen also moves in the case at heavier touch/push?
PS: mine also has the ridge at the top and a little at 3 and 9 o'clock
No movement on my screen, send it back. My first one had a broken strap out of the box but the replacement has been rock solid
Yes there is movement in the top left corner, I can also use a suction cup to pull the screen out to where it was but it doesn't stay there.
return with no exchange
hi,
I have returned my SW3 to the shop, they had another one there (with which they offered me to exchange) I checked it for the same defect, unfortunately that one was even worse: I could see the glue at top left corner and when pressing it at top right corner the screen was bending in the case creating a 2mm gap; not touching the screen, it was a bit higher that the case's edge.
so no smartwatch for now, hope to find a good one soon.
how are your hanging? anyone else bought it from Netherlands?
experiencing same issue, it was totallly smooth, but now the edge is sharper. I assume it affects the waterproof, so lets see what sony will say. (bought it directly from their site as preorder back a few months)
Update: thing got replaced, not the band, just the watch... Seems fine now. However now I have the band slightly damaged on the two right corners, metal is coming through the plastic....
Hi, I d not believe.... Sony has really hard issue with his watch
yet with the SW2 the screen go out from the frame
I send it back at Sony repair but the new one has same issue

Gap in between screen and frame

Has anyone noticed a gap between screen and frame. I have found a small gap on the front top (front side) . I'm afraid that dirt and/or humidity could enter at this place. Just want to know whether this is a common/acceptable issue. I have HTC 10 Silver. There is no gap in bottom but only in front side..Take a look the following pictures.

After watching the teardown video on the YouTube. It looks like the screen is a little bit smaller than the frame for engineering tolerance and easier desassembly.

It could be for engineering tolerance and easier disassembly. But It could be possible by heating up only the edge. Dont need to heat the middle part. Actually he starts disassembling from the edge.

Mind the gap! I have it too... pictures attached. I also noticed that the microsd tray rests really deep in the slot, leaving the chassis's sharp edges visible and unpleasant to the touch. Perhaps I am really picky when it comes to flagship phones, however, I can not overcome the yellow spots on the display:
