[Q] how to encrypt note 2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys...i have an amazing device which is note 2
in setting there is a security tab.. right??
oki when i click on it..there is encrypt device...and sd card too.
but when i click on it..it says..charge your battery to min 80 % oki my battery is 100 and charger iis plugged in.
even on full battery i cant encrypt it. why?
btw im running stoch firmware and kernel.
device is rooted.
could anybody help me?
thx in advance

It suggest that you have a fully charged battery because the process of encrypting your entire device including the SD card can take a few hours and drain a lot of battery juice.

Hey dude i think you didnt read me post carefully..i said that it is fullly carged and 100.
But even on plugged in charger and battery 100..i cant click on the encrypt button..but why?
Thx for your fast reply.

You can encrypt even at 1% battery. You just need to set your lockscreen to "Password (High security)". Now you can encrypt your device and sd memory card. After reboot you will force to use password lockscreen. But you can change it to Patter lock (my favorite) or any other you like. You need to use this app to change your lockscreen in Encrypted device.

What is wrong with my machine??

I received a free replacement battery from T Mobile in january for my MDA Compact lll. But ever since the first full charge of the new battery, the phone still goes to zero battery power in less than 24 hours, even on standby and no use. Today, with battery freshly charged at 100%, I turned off Bluetooth, Beam and quit all running programs.
3 hours later the battery was at 88% not having used it at all, just standby. Another hour and 20 minutes later it's down to 79%! That means it's losing 20% every 4 hours or so while doing nothing. This is ridiculous, it's not even close to what the standby time is meant to be, which is somewhere over 150 hours. What am I supposed to do, would a hard reset do anything?
hav u overclocked ur processor??????
Try the phone in flightmode check the usage then.. Maybe try to update the radio rom of t-mobile website..

Nope. And I'm using the WM5 Rom as it came with the phone from T Mobile.
I've never tried flashing a new rom or overclocking the cpu.

What's flightmode and how do I find it? The radio rom? I don't even use the radio
Can anyone else help please?
Go download BatteryStatus plugin and under its settings have it display your power drain and cpu usage.
fubofo, did that, it gave me 201MHz.
Anyway, I had a breakthrough. I backed up everything to my hard drive then did a hard reset. I removed my 2GB storage card and rebooted the MDA. So now it's barebones. The battery life is awesome now. It has only gone down 15% in 19 hours on standby, which means it's definitely capable of lasting a few days.
Now I have to figure out what exactly was draining it, either a program that was on the device, or something on the storage card.

or maybe THE STORAGE CARD?

Good point. It's a sandisk 2GB. Are they known for causing battery drain?
I'm still lost on this one.
Well, it's not the storage card. After restoring my backup and replacing the storage, the battery life started depleting rapidly again. I removed the storage card, and battery still bombing. I started removing programs one by one until I was down to 2 programs, TCPMP ( used for viewing youtube videos) and Opera. I can't see that those would affect anything, and they weren't running anyway. All running programs were closed down, bluetooth off, I mean wtf, there were no programs running and the battery is going down fast. What the hell could be depleting the battery when no programs are running? Yet the battery is fine after a hard reset but before I restore my backup!

[Q] Batery life and where to instal android

Hello.
I've just installed android on my HTC Tytn II (Not so Super Froyo Release).
It is very nice but the battery life is very short. I don't think that i can manage for one day without recharging. I think a couple of hours just. Is there something i can do to improve this? When i entered the #*#*4636*#*# it says that the android system is the one that keeps the processor running when in stand by. what can i do?
And another question. How is it better to install. On nand system and data? For now, i've installed data on external data.img. But there is not much room for aplications. Is it better if i install data on sd partition? And if so....how do i do that?

If the processor is still running while in standby then that means you have a widget or program running that's preventing the phone from going to sleep. When you install an app in Android always look for "Prevents Phone from Sleeping" where the app installer says what the app requires to access.
Also, as I have said in the help thread, there is nothing you can do about the battery life. It's Kernel related and being investigated, so until that time unfortunately battery life is very short because the phone's CPU while not in standby runs at 100% speed, unlike all other android phones which decrease their CPU speed and voltage when they are idle (sitting at the home screen or even checking emails).
Also, if you are installing into a data.img file on your SD Card, you should have about 256MB of usable space in /data, if you are running out of space with just a few applications, then you are still installing on NAND, as it only has about 90-100MB available depending on how you have your NAND partitioned, please verify that you have fstab set correctly in atools and re-flash your firmware so that it reads the /data partition under data.img instead of NAND p3.
BEst thing to do if you are wanting to install /data on SD Card (or data.img), is have /system on your NAND for best performance when Android is loading from boot. For quick performance, you should have /data and /system on NAND. For more space and stability, go with /system on NAND and /data on either SD Card partition or data.img.
Thank you for the answer.
I have another problem...when i'm recharging the phone...it says that it is fully charged at 90%.

That means there is a incorrect battery calibration number in the kernel. Run atools and check under Battery Settings > Advanced Settings. If you have a 1350mAH battery (noted on the battery itself), input 2160 units.
If you have any other type of battery, take that battery's mAH and multiply it by 1.6 to get the battery units. If the battery continues to stop at 90% after making that change, and the battery is old, then the battery may be losing it's charge and can only sustain up to 90% of it's core charge.
Thank you. now i'm trying with 2160 set in atools. i will inform you if something is wrong
Another question. How can i see the battery status in %?
i think now it's ok. but still the battery life is very short. and somethig is keeping the android from sleeping but i don't know what. when i enter in the *#*#4636#*#* it says that the "android system" is the one that prevents from sleeping.
And another question. What is the difference between panels. If i am installing with panel 1 the screen looks very bad. Now i've installed with panel 3 but i don't see any difference from panel 2. It is ok that i've installed with panel 3 or should i use panel 2?
I need to know how you set your phone up, including kernel, system/data partitions, which build you used, what radio you're using, anything that could help me investigate further.
I have 2 AT&T Tilt phones, one for daily use and the other for testing purposes only. (nice to have friends with connections, I got them both for free).
My current "daily use" phone will use about 1/2 battery per day with moderate use (texting/Pandora/phone calls) and will last 3 1/2 days if I just let it sit in standby. 3G is enabled and I use Rogue Tools to O/C to 480. I get almost no FC errors and everything works as it should. (The only FC I get is with ADW, which I press "wait" and it comes right back). I was able to set up my phone on the wireless domain at work and ported my work email to it.
Again, I would need to know what you're running as it sounds like your phone is not actually "sleeping" when it should.

Maybe is battery wrong.
There may be a hardware issue. Did you bring it to the Samsung service? You might get a replacement...

Sim Management killing battery any help??

Hi All, after all possible ways to fix my P2, I am getting little angry, as thanks to help people here, I sourced full S233, and done full format and fresh installation, but still no any ringtones or sounds available, no problem, used backup form Z2, and this should be covered, media was high on battery drain too, no problem removed sd card, find out something is not right, as media gone back to normal, backing up 80gb of data a reformatting sd card, but what is wrong with sim management - hammering battery heavily, on gsam pro - showing 75 % of battery consumed by combined app CPU !!!
What is could be???? Tried sim 1 and sim 2 tray no difference. I know there is bug which keep Phone idle high, but this is nothing against sim management, anyone with any suggestions??? Many thanks..
ok, find problem, it was corrupted photos and video file on sd card. all back to normal SOT 12-13 hour per charge..
How did you identify the corrupt photo/video? I am having similar problem.

I am now experiencing the same thing. Could you please elaborate?
I just switched devices and transfered the content from my daily driver P2 to my spare P2 via Nandroid/TWRP.
I think I've had this problem before and that it had something to do with using airplane mode for an extended period of time.
