better keyboard? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

so I'm coming from using Swype on Gingerbread and loved it.
Now that I'm using the Note 2, I've been using the Samsung Keyboard and not liking it as much, but I really like that the numbers are on the keyboard at the top without making any other presses.
Swype/Swiftkey both make you press a button to get to the numbers.
What I would like is a combination of the number keys at the top + swype style for everything else.
Any suggestions?

I think Kii Keyboard is exactly what you're looking for.
It's a new keyboard, currently in beta. But it works extremely well and the developers are improving it very frequently.
Get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zl.inputmethod.latin
You can enable the swype features and number rows through the settings.
Enjoy!

Did I miss it or what? I couldn't find hand writing recognition.

Kii is pretty much just the 4.2 keyboard with customizations. Tried it, was nice, but nothing special.
I like the Swiftkey Flow beta myself. It was updated today with many bug fixes. Nothing like swiping out an entire sentence without lifting your finger or stylus. Working great!

Kii keyboard just updated yesterday, adding even more shortcuts to the keyboard, I would highly recommend it. It has both the swype functionality plus the number keys you are looking for. Plus I believe it's customizable user dictionary and autocorrect via space key make it leaps and bounds better than stock.

I think if you touch the Spen to the area that you want to enter the text, It will automatically enter the handwriting recognition mode. I know my device does this. I'm on chinese n7105 rom so that I can have multi window and wifi tether but I assume that most roms would have the same feature.

Other launchers and keyboards?

So I'd like to use apex launcher instead of the stock TW jedi launcher. I tried, and I end up having spen difficulties. When pulling it out, I don't get a shortcut pop up like I'm used to. Any way to fix that?
Also, I hate the keyboard. I'm so used to SwiftKey that I don't want to switch over, but I really do make use of the handwriting recognition.
Halp!

The stock keyboard *is* Swiftkey. Turn on "Predictive text" in the keyboard settings, and then click on the words "Predictive text" to get to the Swiftkey learning screen (learn from Gmail, FB, Twitter - it always learns from SMS). Kinda hard to find, but the stock keyboard works as Swiftkey for word prediction afterwards.
Also, if you use handwriting recognition a lot, from the keyboard setings, press on the word to "Handwriting" and try changing the "Recognition type" setting from the default "Stroke recognition" to "Complete recognition." You may find the "Complete" recognition much easier to use; I did.
The problem is, the stock keyboard isn't autocorrecting words. It'll provide suggestions of correct words, but it won't do anything if I'm off by even one letter. I can't seem to find a setting for this either. That's really the only thing preventing me from using it.
Ah, true, sorry. I can't find it either. I always had that option disabled in SwiftKey so I didn't notice that the option was missing.
I'm pretty quick to type so I always get typos lol. I don't even know why Samsung would even implement a keyboard without auto correction...

I assume your refering to Page Buddy. It a feature of TW and won't come up if your running another launcher.
You can go into settings>S Pen and click "Open Popup Note" it note will pop up when the S Pen is removed.
Hope that helps.
Yes I figured out the pagebuddy dilemma, guess I'll just add the widget if I really needed it.
As far as keyboards go, I still want to be able to use handwriting recognition, but that option isn't available in the standard SwiftKey as a toggle/button on the bottom like it is in the Samsung keyboard. I wish the Samsung keyboard would just have auto correction like all the others out there..

I'm in the same boat. I like SwiftKey, but it takes a lot of the functionality out of the S-pen. The stock keyboard isn't horrible, and the predictive type is actually pretty good, but it's not SwiftKey. The other negative is that SwiftKey predictions don't show up in notes, which ends up making it worse than stock.
What I would love is some kind of version of SwiftKey that allows for handwriting recognition.
I just wish I could make a space bar insert the correction on the stock keyboard. I like the number row, but am used to just pounding through typos.

I feel so antiquated. I still opt for t9 input over almost anything else.

Haha, I can't even type with t9 anymore, I just tried lol.
I wish we could just get a keyboard with handwriting recognition...Samsung, what the hell were you thinking by not having simple autocorrect?

[APP][BETA]SwiftKey FLOW!

Hai everyone,
SwiftKey released their beta for SwiftKey Flow today. IMO it's swype but better - if you swipe a word, then go to the space bar, you can continue swiping without taking your finger off!

i received the email this morning, i have always liked swype better, but i am going to give this one a try to see if they have improved. so far i am liking it.
This keyboard is so awesome. This is so much better than the buggy one of the 4.2 keyboard on the market.

Not too shabby. I gotta admit that this SwiftKey app is good for what it is. It was so-so at first but like what it said on the can, it learns your habit (AI - like learning capability).
P. S. I would recommend to disable auto correction for obvious reasons unless you can set it the way you want. I am sure if you type some colorful words, it won't be long before it starts to have a dirty mind of its own.

and i am back to swype... flow would make the alt and shift keys on the keyboard toggle on and off and not turn off automatically with the next keypress. it also will not turn off predictions when the physical keyboard is out, even with the option selected in settings. when they fix this (swiftkey 3 does it still) i will switch to it. gotta get the kinks fixed for phones with hardware keyboards.
and yes i have posted these issues on the swiftkey beta forums.
At least I can switch the keyboard in the settings (it is labeled beta so I am already aware of that).

It says XT9. It is telling you your keyboard is in T9 predictive text mode
ProBAM Power
That is no bug...
That is supposed to be that way and it does not miss-align the keyboard.
That is the exactly as it is on EVERY HTC phone and it should be that way...
If you look at your PC's keyboard you'll see that the a is slightly offset relative to the q...

i see, thanks for the info, any way to turn that thing off? I was in keyboard settings, nothing about t9 found :/
You would have to turn off all references to prediction in the keyboard settings. Or just install another keyboard from the play store

I'd download either:
SwiftKey - Best for rapid typing with great auto correct
Swype Keyboard - Great for those who enjoy using the swype/flow features in Android (not having to lift finger off to type)
Kii Keyboard (Has multipurpose keys and has a number pad which I liked) above the keyboard [BEST FOR TABLETS]
They are my 3 favorite, in that order.
Bro chill... My keyboard does to... It says ViperX+ cuz that's the Rom I'm running but its nothing

Keyboard

I was wondering what keyboard most are using? I purchased swype with dragon for my phone. I am not familiar with the Samsung keyboard. I know they have added the ability to swipe words now like Swype does. I also own Swift key. I was wondering if it was worth the resource cost to install and use Skype or Swiftkey on this tablet.

I've been using the (old) paid edition of swiftkey on my note 10.1 and my s3 phone for a while...however, finally discovered that, for whatever reason, swiftkey was causing serious lag on my s3. I did a bit of research and am now trying TouchPal X on both phone and tablet, which is free. I'm still getting used to it but really like what it offers so far...it let me resize the keyboard and font, has a swype-like trace function, predicts words really well and has lots of customisation options. The only thing I don't like is it creates a little toolbar about the keys which I would rather be able to hide, not a huge deal though. Would say it's worth a try - and if you don't like it, at least you haven't shelled out for it!
Hope this helps
I used to use Swype, way back on my Galaxy S2. But I now prefer the Samsung keyboard on my Note II and on my Note 10.1-2014.
I find using the keyboard for cursor movement is a better use of the swiping/sliding action than the swype kind of typing.
I use the SwiftKey beta with enabled number row atm. But I like the original Samsung keyboard as well although it has some annoying things like missing arrow keys and the pop up on holding takes way too long.
Another great alternative is thumb keyboard. Great customization options.
Thumb Keyboard. Great responsiveness and customization.

I really like the stock Samsung keyboard. I've tried Skype and it never got my words right. I tried the Google keyboard and it doesn't have the secondary key long hold thing that Samsung keyboard does...

Speaking of keyboard, how do users find the virtual keyboard(s) on the 10.1 2014? I read that the ones for the 12.2 would be a full size keyboard. How about 10.1 2014? Are the keys reasonably large and well spaced?
Until recently, the Samsung keyboards were crap. But the current Samsung keyboards are pretty good. I've tried Swiftkey and the the Google keyboard and prefer the Samsung keyboard over those.

Swiftkey or Gboard?

I have to admit that the keyboard in the note 7 was the best keyboard I've used...
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good keyboard?
Swift key. Never found one as good.

Couldn't agree more. I installed Cobalt's "Blackberry Manager" and install the keyboard from there. https://cobalt232.github.io/blackberrymanager/
I like Gboard better. With Swiftkey touch and holding a letter to get symbols and accents doesn't work proper in some cases.
My Gboard freezes all the time if the keyboard was onscreen and I switch apps and go back to the earlier app.
I have to close the keyboard and reopen it. Super annoying.
Also, I think it's a bit dim. It's autocorrect is useless and it never gives me word suggestions.
Will try side loading the BB one.
