Galaxy SII Plus - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just read about this thing, and I know we have leaks and such, but it worries me that we won't see JB. Why would they update ours and have a new one come out, and the new one is the same thing accept 8GB internal and runs JB out of the box. Anyone else at least confused on Samsung's thought process here?

Same as s3 mini a smaller budget friendly version of a popular device. The plus will probably fall to the low mid range devices similar to the level of the transform or moment or galaxy rival etc.

Yea what garwynn said, sammy isnt gonna put resources into a build just to abandon it before its released. They will either push it out as is or keep working on it til they're ready to release

I didn't think they were, it just confused me as to why they would throw another version of the phone out with less storage, and JB out of the box, but I didn't think if it they way evil put it.

I'm not sure why but it's probably because they got left over parts they never put to use so they probably just slap them together into a mid range phone and make whatever they can out of the parts they wouldn't be able to get rid of anyways. Just my thought... if you can scrap older parts or left overs into a device you can use to sell via a carrier on a contract for 50 to 100$ maybe even free, why not?

Maybe looking to corner the market on pre-paid carriers with the left-over parts as mentioned before. Also, with apple rumors on a lower cost iphone for overseas markets, maybe this will be marketed as the H2H competitor.

We got Jelly already anyway so who cares? I mean if FL16 isn't good enough for a daily I don't know what is.

HTC did this with the Evo. Made the Evo Design, then dropped the HTC Evo Lte
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapalk HD

So why is this called Plus? Seems the same as the SII but with less storage? Same screen size, same camera's, both are dual core. Why would you go with this over a a SII?

I guess the positives of it rocking nearly the same hardware is that if the older S2 models don't get 4.2.x updates... the S2 + will be a sign of hope.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Looks like the price will be around $450usd (if its priced similarly to other countries by exchange rate) so itll be a lower mid range device on par with s3 mini slightly higher price than s3 and lower than prevail. So on contract it should come in between $99 and free(if it goes to us carriers that arent prepaid)

Who the hell knows. Probably size constraints cdma devices have alot more crap inside them than gsm does. International phones have one gsm hspa+ 21 or 42 antenna vs cdma has a 1x/3g plus wimax or 1x separate 3g and wimax. Then theres all the other parts in there wifi antenna bluetooth SoC RAM etc nfc chips are actually quite big. The s3 has it built into the battery because of that and the note 2 has it built into the battery cover with connectors that press against leads on the back housing
Edit: it also has a very limited range like maybe 2" MAX so it cant be embedded in the device it needs to be almost at the surface to prevent interference from the other hardware. Its range is so limited it wont eve work thru some phone cases

You'll get bored of the amaze quickly, with the lack of support and average battery life. Camera is awesome though.
Try the gn or the note which apparently can use our h+ network now? Someone exploited it or something.
Why don't you play with different launchers or something? That'll keep you entertained just a bit longer.

Project Roadrunner? 4.2

Has anybody heard of this? I did a quick lazy glance here and didn't see it posted so I thought I would. Looks pretty amazing with new features and improving Gnow and improved battery life for Android users. Of course the main concern is in order for us to experience we might have to switch phones or of course wait on our devs to do their amazing work. Thoughts??

I was thinking.. I'm sure that the galaxy Nexus is a shoe in to get 4.2 and if it can handle the software I am sure that this phone can too!.. It's unlike that tmobile will put in the resources to update this phone after JB but it might be a slim possibility.. Especially since we will have the option whether or not to have OEM skins

Officially I don't think this phone is getting past ICS. I have high doubts about an official TW JB update for it. Only the international GSII has been officially confirmed. As we all know that phone and every other GSII has the exynos SoC so I wouldn't doubt the others can get it easily. But since we have the s3.. idk.

And I just wanna state that it's obvious that Google is listening to what people want and trying to add it to software updates! We have all been talking about how nice it would be if we had a choice of AOSP or OEM.. And voila! Google goes ahead and appears to be implementing it!.. This is totally opposite of other mobile operating systems (not naming names) that always hold back the features... This is why I will probably stay loyal to android for a long time!

So who's planning on getting the Nexus 4?

Just curious, who's planning on getting the Nexus 4? Also, what are your thoughts on Google not adding expandable SD card slots to their Nexus devices? (I guess to push Google Drive) And also, no LTE chip.
For around $350?
I for one, (because I'm an Android fanatic), do plan on ordering one. (Despite some of the cons listed above) Because of it's specs. Just wanna get a feel for everybody else's thoughts.

Yeah that thing bombed! LOL
WeWell if you think about it, for Google to be able to hit that magic $399 pricetag, some things need to get axed. The Galaxy Nexus was $399, and had a slow OMAP processor and lousy camera and cheapy build quality. Google and LG probably thought about it and moved their priorities around a bit. All those three things are being addressed. You get the latest S4 Pro quad-core, decent 8MP camera, and "much better than Samsung" build quality. The sealed battery and no MicroSD is Google's own deliriums, so you can't blame LG for that. That really only leaves the LTE chip that can be axed to save money, since they are still expensive. This is primarily an unlocked world phone that accepts SIM cards. Most of the world doesn't have LTE yet. The ones that do have spotty coverage. And honestly you will notice the faster quad-core browser rendering more than the increased data speed. A phone can only render so fast. I've had 20Mbps cable and 3Mbps dsl and for daily surfing purposes, they aren't that different, since websites are designed for that lower tier. On a phone, the faster browser would make the bigger difference. Not to mention the battery life saved. I think it's a smart move. Right now, I don't even have a data plan, so I Wifi hop everywhere and the $$$ saved from having to buy a $600+ LTE phone with the latest processor/screen combo is just a no-brainer. It caters to my needs especially.

Boot loader unlock is in the works.. Not sure on progress, but theres a few XDA devs working on this for the Optimus G. Specs aren't bad. But biggest turn off as mentioned is difficult to remove battery (3 screws on back plate, 2 on battery.. PITA to remove) and no SD expansion slot. I use my SD quite a bit due to flashing roms and things like that, so it's a deal breaker on this end.

I would go for it. I love my Note 2 but you could easily sale the 2 Optimus G's and buy the S4. If you don't wanna do it, send him my way.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Plus I have two upgrades coming in Oct anyways. I honestly wanted to trade for the S4 but I saw that offer and just thought the value was higher for two Optimus G than one Note. I could off them, get the S4 and probably have some cash to spare.

If you have upgrades in October, should just wait for Note3. Should be out around then.

I want something different now. Also I might not go Note 3. My main reason to drop Note now is I have difficulties handling it with just one hand. Almost dropped this badboy tryna text while carrying groceries with the other hand. I love the phone and tried to adjust but it's not going well. Certain spots of the screen I can't reach unless I'm doing two handed operation.

You know you can speak your text messages through the voice option on the keyboard. I just did this right now to compose a response to your thread.

That is a very good deal but I don't know if I can see myself without my note . . . I've gotten used to its size and other phones don't feel right in my hand. But if you need something smaller by all means go for it. Just have them checked by a sprint tech to ensure you aren't getting a pair of lemons.
My bad chuku, I didnt mean to quote you.

I get what your saying. I do love this phone and I'm honestly scared I might regret it. I called the guy up to get better pix at different angles and now he keeps texting me too see if we are going through with it. Also we doing the exchange at sprint so if I go through with it they both getting checked on the spot

Coming from the note 2 you won't like the lgog much I had one and battery life is a downright joke. The processor is a bit snapper but not much, the screen is gorgeous though. But if you want to sell the pair to get the s4 I get it. I was tempted by the S4 but I'll hold out for note 3 instead as it will have the same guts but a bit more powerful with inch larger screen than s4. My whole point is don't be rushed. Have them check for water damage and most importantly CHECK ESN.

I think the s4 is a waste of money as we will be getting rhe same features now that its released with the 4.2 update

No really because it will have full 1920 X 1080 resolution and it will have inferred so it can replace your T.V. remote.
I am expecting the Note 3 to have the S4 International guts. The Sprint S4 essentially has the same guts as our Note 2. I would like the S4 for one reason, easier to fit into my pocket and keep away from the kiddo lol. With that said, I will probably find someone to trade my Note 2 with for there S4. May add a 50 $ bump haha.

Opposite way. Instead of pinching go the other way.
