[Q] Stolen galaxy S3 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok im new here mainly to try to find answers to my problem. Apparently i bought a stolen S3 that is blacklisted through AT&T. Phone turns on and looks like its brand new except i cant do anything on it (make calls, text, internet) my question is can there be ANY solution to this, or am i just SOL. Its fine if i am, but just figured i could try all options and thats when i stumbled upon this site. Im not asking anyone to do anything for me, just can it be done. Is it "locked" or "blocked" ? If i unlocked it would it work then? Please any help is appreciated

Unlocked might work on tmo 2g. Other services that use att might work on prepay.

Did AT&T tell you that it's blacklisted, or is that just your assumption? Just trying to make sure it isn't something else like a missing IMEI code.
And if it was stolen, I'd get rid of it if it were me. You can get in a lot of trouble for receiving stolen goods.
At any rate, not here to preach. You can unlock it for free using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34661189#post3466118
That said, if you use a T-Mobile sim card you'll probably only get Edge network, which is slower than dial-up (not really, but it is agonizingly slow). In some areas of the country T-Mobile has rolled out newer networks and you might get H+. Worth a shot at any rate. Good luck. :good:

Chances are, it could be blacklisted on all GSM networks, not just AT&T. All a person would need to do is call up respective customer care, and get it disabled. If he got it for one, I don't think he'd be stupid enough not to get it disabled on other MAJOR networks.
When you got it, didn't you put in your cell sim and check if it was working or not?

[Q] IMEI blocked?

Okay so I found galaxy note 2 from a craiglist deal, popped in sim card, everything worked great as its a tmobile version but said per seller that it was unlocked. 30 minutes later after the deal my device had been blocked from network use. My sim would no longer work in my older phone, so I called and got that fixed, but I now have a stupid nice phone that im using for a paper weight. Obviously the person who sold it to me either knew it was reported lost or stolen, or reported it after selling it to me, its whatever it happens right.
What are my options? I really want to be able to use this phone and spent a lot of money on it. I appreciate all input.
Try using another sim card I suppose
Sent from my Xperia Ray
I did, I even went to the AT&T store and they gave me a new sim card and it worked, made calls, surfed the web for like 10 minutes and the same thing happened.

the only thing you can do is have the seller call att or tmobile, what ever its branded and tell them they found the devise and att can unblock the imei
Sounds like u was scammed.

Only other option may be to try it on the other carrier. If it's a TMo phone, try it on ATT and vice versa.

If it is locked. Unlock and use through other carrier either tmobile or something that uses tmobile network mvno. If u have att note 2.

I don't know if you guys have reading comprehension problems or what... Dude said he used on tmo for 30 minutes and then got blocked, and then did the same thing with AT&T. For those of you that don't know AT&T and T-Mobile now share their blacklists, meaning it will not work on any carrier that uses any of those towers. Sad to say your best option would be to sell to an international user on celltraderonline. Be very clear that it is on the US blacklist and will not work with AT&T, T-Mobile or their sister carriers.
Have you tried any T-Mobile or AT&T MVNO's like Simple Mobile or Red Pocket? That might work. If not your pretty much screwed. Unless you use it in another country.

I have been "burnt" also with buying a T-Mo Note 2 on Craigslist. I used my phone for 2 mos before it got blocked from T-Mo. I used the dialer tricked and unlocked the phone and now using it on Straight Talk Att sim. But you are right you can't use it on T-Mo network or any of the mvnos. You can only use it for ATT mvnos. if the phone has been imei blacklisted it will not work on any united states gsm service that includes straight talk... highly doubt you have a blocked phone working on straight talk
I had another thread going about being blocked on imei.
I just called tmobile and talked to them for about thirty minutes about my situation.
A quick summarization of the conversation is:
- The previous owner has been accused of fraud so that is the reason of the blocked IMEI.
- Can't do anything to unblock it, unless the previous owner retracts ther dues or whatever it is that needs to be payed.
- No third party unlocking will work.
Well for me, I fortunately have his information such as address and phone number and the text conversation still logged on my old phone. Luckily I called him today as a private number to check if he's phone still worked and still does, thank god.
Now I'm planning on calling him up tomorrow and, professionally, tell him my situation. When I met the guy, he didn't seem like a bad guy but hey, never judge a book by it's cover eh.
If he refuses any of these or won't agree to a median than I'll have to take legal actions.
That's my plan that is. I am not going to let $600.00 go to waste on a blocked phone! I'm taking this guy all the way.

not sure but can't you get rid of your IMEI by flashing a bunch of times? I had this happen with my SK4G, my IMEI number under settings was a bunch of 0s. When I called up T-mobile and asked for an unlock code for the phone, it didn't work because my IMEI was screwed up. I ended up having to alter some Hex file in order to unlock it

Will a T999 with a Bad IMEI work outside U.S.?

Hi, someone is selling me a really nice T999 in excellent condition, with the problem that the IMEI was blocked, and it won't work on any carrier in the U.S. I live on Dominican Republic, will it work on my country fine? 3G and everything? I know that the 3G band matches the one my operator uses, so no problem there.
Thanks in advance.

OP, I'm not actually 100% sure. But, I would imagine that you'd have no trouble using it.
Simple answer is yes.
Thanks for your answers. I ended up buying one on ebay that was cheaper, with the same problem. Only issue is that the auction says bad esn, but i guess that he got that wrong, and means imei. Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200888137396?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Well, yeah, you really are taking one then. Because, IMEIs are for GSM phone and ESNs are for CDMA phones. That posting says T999 with a bad ESN... So, is it a T999 or a CDMA variant of the SIII???
Hope everything works out for you, bro.

Hi there.
Well, to tell you the truth, i sold the phone as soon as i got it because it wasn't compatible with my carrier's 3G network. I did unlock it, but unlocking was extremely easy, i just rooted the phone and downloaded an app from the Play Store, and the app did the rest of the work. Easy as pie. After that, the phone worked flawless in the small ampunt of time i spent with it (less than a day) and it was a brand new phone :highfive:. If you are wondering the name of the app, i don't know the exact name, but you can try searching "galaxy unlock" on the Play Store, and you will see a couple of apps. Good luck.
Almost same problem

I think that its going to be same, and that its going to work, because the imei was blocked on the country the phone was bought, it should work properly outside that country.
If you have a carrier phone with the IMEI blocked you can unlock it and use it on another carrier. Or you cant? I know u used to could. Also If you call your carrier. for instance tmobile and talk to a superviser they may unlock it for you... They usually do because you're using the phone with their network anyways.. So they still lose money if you decide to go to another carrier.

If your IMEI is blacklisted then the phone has been reported lost or stolen. No US carrier will take a blacklisted phone. Tmobile and att share databases too.

Not always.. Carriers will block the IMEI even you dont pay your bill for so long.. A friend of mine gave me his Sidekick 4G and he stopped paying tmobile. After a while that phone stop working. When I called tmobile they said it was because of the IMEI has been blocked. I said that I have this phone for a long time and you need to turn it back on.. 48 hours later they did

Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network

Hi guys, I am sorry if it was already posted here, I could not find similar topics or posts. I have a problem with the network. When I try to call someone it says 'not registered on network'
I have been using galaxy s3 tmobile since last year november. I bought it from a police officer, he gave me unlock codes from tmobile. I used the phone on tmobile for 6-7 months and than I switched to staright talk unlimited and have been using it till yesterday. Yesterday suddenly my phone/ data/ sms.... stopped working. I was using cm10.1.3 than I thought, it is related to kernel/radio or modem and flashed back to stock rom.
But I still have the same problem.
The signal bar is full. I went to apn setting and played with it little, but no results. I tried to connect to the network, it says ' sim card does not allow a connection to this network'. I chatted with tmobile agent: she said, it must work on any network other than tmobile. I put my sim card on iphone, it works, but when I insert any simcard on my phone, it gives same issue. I checked my imei on tmobiles network, the result is: imei blocked. Could anyone help me with it please. ???? :banghead:

If the IMEI is blocked then the seller has reported the phone to be stolen. There's not much that can be done in that case to the phone. You can talk to the Seller if you want.
Doesn't sound like a police officer to me. Probably lied to you to make the sale. Either he reported it lost/stolen like Perseus said, or he never fully paid it off and stopped making payments. Either way, the device is now almost certainly considered to be stolen property. You can unlock it and sell overseas, but otherwise you are pretty much screwed I am sorry to say.
You need to call T-Mobile to find out why it's been blacklisted. If it's been reported stolen, or was never fully paid for try to contact the seller and ask about it. If you can't get in touch with him you may want to consider filing a police report.
Only other possibility, but highly unlikely, is if some a$$ cloned their device using your imei (either randomly entered or obtained some other way). In this very unlikely scenario it wouldn't be the sellers fault, unless he gave the IMEI to someone to use or used it himself.
It's much more likely the seller did this to you since this, unfortunately, happens all the time.
Like stated previously, there isn't much you can do if you can't resolve things with the seller.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.. good luck though.

Thank you for the replies, I have called tmobile, they say it's not fully paid off or the customer has stopped the services at all, at the time of purchase I was 100% sure he was police officer, he showed his badge and all the stuff in the car.
How can I unlock it? I might want to sell overseas.
Anyway, I was thinking about move to n5, but it is too early, coz n5 is not out yet

In the general section is a SIM Unlock thread. Should be on the first page or two.
If he is actually a cop, I'd call him up and ask about it. If he only recently cut his service, it may have been unintentional that you got screwed as a result. Maybe he had forgot all about it. Considering how long it's been, he probably had it close to paid off, so maybe he'd be willing to pay off the balance to T-Mobile to have it unblocked. Or it might be worth it to you, depending on the amount owed, to pay it yourself if he can't or won't.
Granted, it would suck to have to, but if he only owes like $50, might be worth considering.

Bad IMEI N900T Question

I've searched around for a definitive answer on this, but haven't found one.
I see a lot of N900T's advertised as unlocked with a bad IMEI. Does this mean that since it's unlocked I can use the phone with AT&T in the USA, just not with TMo? Does it depend on the specific N900T at hand or is there a uniform rule?
Thankful for any and all help.
Yes, you can use it on AT&T without issue. I am doing this for a few months. But, there is a chance AT&T and T-Mobile will someday share blacklists and it could be blocked by both networks.

What this means is the imei is block by tmobile. It will not connect to its network.
Now att and tmobile have started to share networks. So its possible that it will be block by att also.
Over sea carries dont share the same list. (at lest not for now.) so there good to go,
Also note that there is no way to remove the device from the blacklist. Also just because its fine right now on att it doesnt mean it wont get updated down the road.
Then you will be left with a phone that you cant use.
I stop buying phones online because its harder to trust people and when something goes wrong you get the bad part of it.
I know for a fact they have been sharing the same list for atleast a year or so if im correct. You might be able to use it,but chances are it wont work. sorry to burst your bubble. just sell it on ebay and you might be able to get more money off it! good luck

Need help with Verizon Galaxy Note 10+ temporary lock.

Hi everyone,
I've got smashed Galaxy Note 10+ from eBay, fixed it and found out that it has a kind of carrier change temporary lock. IMEI is clean, not blacklisted or anything. Technically the phone is unlocked and it fully works with my non-US carrier SIM card for around 5 min or so. But after that a ridiculous nonsense message about carrier change pops up and the phone becomes blocked. It looks like the phone is connecting by itself with Verizon servers, they detect other carrier SIM card and block GSM functionality. I flashed international U1 firmware already but it didn't help. Verizon tells some 60 day activation cap - the phone will be unlocked automatically after 60 days since Verizon account activation. Is there any way to fix it / block the phone from communicating with Verizon? I have no idea how long should I wait since the phone was wiped before sale.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like the seller might have received an insurance replacement due to the damage. Maybe the phone is blocked by Verizon because it should have been disposed of and/or should no longer be used in their network. Just a guess.

That's just the way the network lock works.....you'll need to wait the 60 days...(probably closer to 30 now...but no way to know)
If you can't wait there are paid solutions that you can use... cell unlocking services.
No amount of firmware changing etc will have an effect on the network lock.....sorry.
Also i disagree with the other poster....sounds like you confirmed its not blacklisted....what you're experiencing is the typical network lock behavior.....pay or wait it out.
Btw any before and after pics?
What did you pay for smashed device? How much spent repairing?

I paid US$230 for smashed device, $320 for screen assembly with housing, $15 for back glass cover (haven't receive it yet), $40 for S-pen. Screen assembly is original despite being bought from AliExpress. It looks like brand new now. Just waiting for back cover and unlock.

This is why I like and dislike Samsung Galaxy flagships. Screen is always damn expensive but the possibility to fix completely smashed device is very high. Actually I repaired few Galaxies in much worse condition than that. At the same time, recently I had an iPhone XS Max with relatively light screen damage and was unable to repair it due to face ID failure (logic board fault). Cheers!

This is why I like and dislike Samsung Galaxy flagships. Screen is always damn expensive but the possibility to fix completely smashed device is very high. Actually I repaired few Galaxies in much worse condition than that.

Did you call Verizon? Give them IMEI and they should be able to tell you what's up

I live 13000km away from USA so the call to Verizon could be not cheap. I had an online chat with them via Messenger and they asked me my Verizon account details to answer my question. Obviously I don't have them. From now I'm looking for not crazy expensive unlock service.

Just had one more conversation with Verizon. It seems that they're bloody dickheads! They claim the Verizon does not lock phones which is pure lie. And their temporary carrier lock system is a bloody mess. They're unable to manage it at all!!! Just look at my conversation history with Verizon support:
"We greatly appreciate this (IMEI) information, Victor. After further review, we do show that this IMEI is not currently showing a carrier lock to our network....
I know this is confusing and that you just want to get full use out of that phone. While we don't lock any locks on the phone, it is true that takes 60 days from sale of the phone for a phone to be unlocked. We would suggest that you get in contact with the seller of this phone and instruct them to get in contact with Verizon or alternately, reach out to the selling platform you used and your local carrier. Keep in mind also that Verizon sold phones are not guaranteed to work with other carriers. We would not be able to provide any further support beyond this. I hope this helps clarify and if you have any additional concerns, we are happy to help out. "

No, it's just a standard SM-N975U, not a Verizon branded one. Actually I was able to easily flash it into unlocked N975U1 version. But still that damn Carrier change message pops up and blocks GSM capability.

As I sad earlier, I had a chat with Verizon twice regarding this phone. They checked it by IMEI and told me that it is NOT SIM locked. This is the only useful piece of info I've got from them. Despite of that, they were unable to help me with that Carrier Change issue sending me to original owner / Verizon account holder of this phone. So it's not a carrier variant and not sim locked.

i think ur confused lol... if it was originally sold by verizon then it is a Verizon Variant..
and clearly you are sim locked as thats the exact message ypu get when its sim locked as well as you dont get service with the other carrier..
based on what u posted whoever you talked to has no idea what theyre talking about especially if theyre telling you they dont lock phones which meansthey also didnt even bother to look up their own policy for it and instead just made stuff up off the top of their head..
but hey, dont take my word for it.. it wont work as u need tho until vzw unlocks it or u pay for a service to unlock it.

Yes, I'm confused indeed. Confused by Verizon which says one thing but does other. They clearly said that "we don't lock our phones" but apparently they do it! Bloody bastards!
Did you manage to unlock the device?

No, I sold it. As I can see there is no unlocking solution right now. No hope that it will be available any time soon.
