[Q] Dock Resolution Question - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I received my GNII Samsung Dock today!!! I am having issues in regards to resolution.
I have a Acer A193W 19" monitor and a HDMI to DVI cable. When I hook it up to my AppleTV2 the output is perfect.
When I hook the same combination up to the GNII via the dock my resolution is stuck at 720x350 and needless to say looks horrible.
Does anyone have and tips or thoughts on how to resolve this issue?
Thanks for the help
I was told I would get a better response here than in the TMo only forum.
Thanks again

Anyone? Could it be I need a newer HDMI monitor instead of an HDMI to DVI ?

Use a hdmi cable with a hd monitor
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)

Thanks, I'll scrounge one up. I was initially confused because the native phone res and the ATV res should both be 720p.
I'm not thinking that anything is wrong with the phone or dock, just didn't know if anyone else has run into the issue.

micro HDMI to DVI

Hello,
I'd like to connect my EVO to my desktop LCD monitor to watch video on bigger screen. Has anyone tried it yet? Anyone know of a micro HDMI (type D) to DVI cable or an adapter? thanks.

you might be able to make your own... just get an DVI to HDMI cable and splice on a type D end to it, not sure if it will go backwards though...
thanks, but I am interested in making sure I am going about the right way. I want make sure all the HDMI 1.4 features are supported in this solution and its fully compatible. Has anyone tried it yet?
Not really sure what HDMI 1.4 features you expect to get when your end connector is a DVI port. If you cant find a cable that goes from the Evo to DVI then you should be able to just go to HDMI then use an adapter to go to DVI. I used have my computer hooked up to my Home Theater via a DVI <> HDMI cable. Worked great, Full HD and all.
thanks. I read there a bunch of new features in hdmi 1.4 and wanted to make sure I go with an optimal option. Seems like an hdmi cable and a DVI adapter is the way to go. This way I can connect to hdtv and lcd monitor.
Yes, its true that HDMI 1.4 is great and has a lot of new things, including 3D support. But keep in mind, this is a phone. It doesn't even output 1080p video, so you'll be fine with the adapter.
Yeah, it can only to 720p output to a monitor/TV.
Something else to consider, HDMI integrates video and audio over 1 connection. If you use a DVI converter, you will lose the audio. I don't know if the EVO will allow you to output the audio out via the headphone jack at the same time or not, but I very much doubt it. So in other words, by converting the signal, you're going to lose all the audio and kinda makes it useless.
hmm.. well that sucks. any ideas on how to get around this problem?

Sure, you can get an HDMI to DVI With Audio converter..but then again, you might as well buy a new monitor with DVI inputs for the price..

MHL to HD CRT Problem

I want to hook up my Galaxy Nexus to an older HD Sony CRT set, but am having a problem. Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction so I can go about fixing it.
I hook up my MHL cable to my Galaxy Nexus and plug an HDMI cable to the Sony CRT and the image appears, but then seems to flicker in and out between what I would expect to see and blackness.
The twist is that the picture seems pretty stable as long as I'm touching the screen (the situation is also better when PDK apps are running), so I'm cautiously optimistic this is a software issue concerning the GPU. If anyone has any more specific advice, I'm definitely open to hearing it.
Thanks.
Have you tried playing something else through the HDMI port of the TV? (a DVD player, a PC, etc.) The problem might be with the HDMI cable or the HDMI port itself and not the phone or MHL adapter
A settop box and game console work just fine through the same HDMI port and the same cable, so I'm pretty sure the problem is with the GN. Any ideas?
One bump for the weekend before I let this thread fade away. Hopefully a weekend reader will see this and know what's going on here.
Sounds like a faulty MHL adapter passing intermittent signal problems to the TV.

Does your phone + MHL work fine when plugged into a different TV?

Yeah, the MHL adapter works great on several other sets, so I was assuming it something to do with the CRT.

Odd Micro HDMI Question

So I dabble with GoPros and if you have dealt with pairing the GoPro 4 to a smart phone, it's that it eats the battery like crazy and doesn't output all resolutions to the smart phone. I was wondering if it was possible to use the micro HDMI port on the GoPro and send the video to the Note 4 using an MHL cord and/or adapter.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
I know nothing about Go Pros, and I can't give you a definitive answer without trying this setup myself (which I can't do).
I'm assuming that you're trying to use the phone as a display for the camera? So the hdmi cable would be sending video feed from the camera to the phone?
If this assumption is correct, then it shouldn't work. The Note 4 can only output hdmi signal. The phone can't input signal.
If my assumption wasn't right, then ignore me. If I'm wrong about any of this, then someone kindly correct me.
